- When you think of esports - the games that come to mind are the staples. Your CS:GO, League of Legends, Dota. But there’s one game you might not think about - Tetris.
For a game that’s closing in on 40 years old, it has a surprisingly large and devoted esports scene. Spanning across the f-king globe. And there is a lot of variety within the game itself.

RIP Jonas. Absolute legend of the game, and is the Tetris GOAT
The news of his death was like a punch, he was such an amazing player and kept the scene going.
rip
"It's just Tetris."
Yeah, like "It's just Mario" or "It's just Doom".
Tetris players are the hardest of the hardcore y'all. You don't mess with those crazy bastards.

@@grobol129 excel? as in microsoft excel?
@@akkico its called "Financial Modeling World Cup" apparently. Sounds more like satire than a real thing tbh Lmao

Hell yeah you guys
If you're going to tackle Tetris, maybe we could expect a "story of" based on Jonas Neubaeur? He was (and still is, even after his passing) the face of Classic Tetris even if his playstyle feels outdated nowadays.
X2
Jeff cavalier of tetris
There are a slew of potential candidates for a great "story of," but I would agree that Jonas would be a top pick for his 7-time championships and his work as an ambassador to the esport. After that it would probably be Joseph for leading the charge of the new generation, followed by Cheez for bringing the latest technique to the limelight.
Boom Tetris for Jonas
Jonas was a legend. Joseph should be the next face. Dude is a prodigy.
the love for classic is warranted for sure, but i’d love to see something about some of the modern tournaments happening these days also, like tetrio cup, the recent Kemonomichi, and others!
i’d love to see a full-length video on this because there’s tons to cover
Signed, a pretty good modern tetris player :)
👀
If you go on classic I would stop stickspin
did somebody say MKO?
Tetris players are clinically insane
can confirm
@@ryanharris7891same here
As a person who lives in a 3rd world country i can confirm this is true
As a Tetris player who isn't even that good I can confirm.
... OR CAN I?
(Vsauce music plays)
See, if I'm clinically insane then the words I write cannot be trusted. That means that I may not be clinically insane after all. But if I'm not clinically insane, I would be able to judge myself correctly which means I am clinically insane.
I wish that when people think about tetris they don't just think about classic tetris. Guideline needs some love
Finally, esports that I can pause when my mom called
You can’t pause in multiplayer Tetris
@@mUrichawnomg hi muri
modern guideline tetris is insane. tetrio is a particularly gnarly game
"No mf , this shit is complex " this line hurted a little bit but was soo funny 💀💀💀😂😂😂
"if there's a game, xqc has screamed at it"
People who look down on Tetris probably thinks chess is for losers
And Tetris is speed chess with randomly respawning pieces
If you thinking with that analogy, I kinda think that classic tetris is like a normal game of chess, while modern tetris pvp is like bullet chess
Tetris is lame to watch and play and chess isnt 😂 its only fun when you find the rolling technique 😂 other than that its pretty lame
@@jusbertmeza4424you’re pretty lame. Tetris is fun af to play and watch.
@@jusbertmeza4424i thought baiting was obvious back in my days
I would like to hard vouch for this. For anyone with any doubts, watch the square one 2023 trailer from puzzle kingdom. Surely that'll be enough to convince you to join us.
Even those that have a slight amount of confusion, imagine watching knowing who these players are (because the roster is stacked af) and being able to guess off of the clip shown before the entrant. Also *they got akashirobo* who was dang near impossible to contact until this point (the literal top ranked zone battlr player) and they definitely didn't disappoint in letting us know.
sering Jonas made tear up a bit, Tetris for Jonas RIP legend
I am a huge fan of this. It is definitely worth doing a video. From the stories of the players to how the game this old still was able to evolve is amazing.
I think I gave them the tip off about this like, 3 years ago. Glad to see they're getting around to it
glad to see tetris gaining more attention in the e-sport scene! would love to see you guys showcase more modern guideline tetris though
I had no idea people played Tetris competitively until bluescooti broke the game and I watched a video on it and it actually blows my mind. The technique they do is very challenging to master and they have to think so damn quick plus the way they stack it is so that no matter what piece comes next they have the perfect spot to put it
Watching Blaarg or any of those guys blows my mind. My eyes can barely keep up.
BOOM! TETRIS for Jonas!
It is 15 months since the GOAT has passed on. His legacy still lives on to this day.
theScore, you need to do a video on Jonas Neubaeur, or at least something on how there's less than 20 people on the planet who can truly call themselves "Grand Masters" of Tetris (via Terror-Instinct Classic Rule).
BTW the less than 20 grandmasters also account for the World Ruleset IIRC. we're on 18(?)
My friends have our own mini Tetris eSports scene at school with our ti-nspires
Thank you for showing off our scene. Please consider making a Story of Jonas Neubauer 🙏
Second the motion.
It’s so great to see recognition dude! I would love to see the community grow and for it to get some more mainstream attention because the top tier players are just crazy
i love it, is simple yet so deep, everyone can play it, only a few can master it, is retro yet timeless, the fact that they play on real nes hardware and use small crts, the unorthodox controller grips and tge fact that is still nitche.
Tetris for jeff
waiting for the day people acknowledge the existence of fast tetris…
😞
From DAS to hypertapping to rolling Tetris has been fully up ended three times in the last five years crazy
I play It in my Game boy its crazy how simple and good It is
I've been playing/watching competitive tetris since 2016. I hope this video gets more people into this game because it's genuinely such a fun and exciting esport.
I love finally getting a big esports reporter showing off our communities, it makes me so happy!
Modern tetris players rise up
Tetris for Jonas
I always laugh when someone say "go play tetris" during a CSGO or Dota pub lol
Went through a Tetris phase maybe a year or two ago, so entertaining to watch
This game is very nostalgic used to compete with foreigners on facebook, back when they have free to play online games.
classic tetris could be slow at the beginning, but it get crazy near the end. On the other hand, for people who love fast paced tetris battle from beginning, other variation of tettris could be an alternative. Puyo puyo tetris is one of them. Check Kemonomichi 4 Taiyo Amemiya VS kazu to see how crazy the battle is.
Depends on what level you start. While level 18 (the most common start) does look slow for the viewer, it's still a piece every two seconds.
dr mario championsip is quite intense too.
i remember the first time i watch tetris e-sports.
i watched entire vid and some tetris classic wc about 4 hours straight.
Reminds me of the time I watched about 10 hours straight of Tetris going down a RUclips rabbit hole
Rest In peace Jonas Neubaeur
1 fuck up is hard to repair in esport tetris
I like tetris battle, destroying your opponent using double t-spin or 4 lines combo. Good old days.
Growing up on a facebook game of tetris where you can play against stangers of the internet is so nostalgic to see this
Seeing Jonas in the video makes me sad. RIP
tetrio is insane
Tetris esports is surprisingly hype.
This aged well!
at the time this short was released ericicx more than doubled the score jump set by cheez on nes tetris - 1.67, 2.34 and now 3.7 million. previously, we had only tens of thousands of points in increment at most in the 2010s even under the joseph saelee era.
Actually, I immediately thought Tetris, when you said there is one I wouldn’t think of lol.
I use to watch Tetris tournaments for nostalgia 😂
I would love to see tetris content on this channel, there are a lot of amazing storys in its history
THANK. YOU.

When i first heard of tetris esports scene, i actually started laughing, but shortly after i decided to check some pro matches, and then i watched it for almost six hours, this shit is the craziest

Live long lord Bison! Your still the champ!
Casual tetris is meh, but Esports tetris man they're a whole new breed
Ice cold Tetris clutch :D
I feel that people don’t see the changes from past tetris to modern tetris modern tetris you can hold your block and you can see which ones are led as well as being able to drop the block immediately or you fan guide it down yourself so you can get into difficult spots and modern tetris allows you to move on the ground more freely that’s why you can climb with certain blocks but in the old 1989 NES version you don’t have non of that your blocks drop on there own and once you touch another block it gets placed immediately and you move to the next block and you can hold any block either so modern tetris is more strategic old tetris is more quick thinking cause when your on high rounds and your blocks are dropping fast you can’t make too many mistakes but in modern tetris if your block goes somewhere you didn’t want it to go you have atleast a second to move it that’s why you see players switching the orientation of the block so that it doesn’t get placed automatically and players can change there block to make a better play but you can only switch once per block if you accidentally switched well you better find a place to drop it so you can move on the the next block and switch it out for your other block
yes! It’s so cool for modern Tetris
40 years and still no update.
Rest in Peace Jonas

Best thing to come out of the USSR

You can be an officail master or grand master or someyjing like in chess.
Tetris is actually fuckin hype
Tetrio is way too intense. Trust me. Scary and crazy fast tetris players
thanks for shedding some light into this scene. imo best scene in tetris is tetris classic. tgm is still good but guideline tetris is overall boring to watch with metas and playstyles not being that diverse.
TGM waiting for that sweet sweet re-release that will be available some time in the future, Tetris company licensings woes continue for now.
Sounds so weird. Like me talking about chess xD
It would be so amazing to have a Story of Jonas Neubauer
Tetris Battle on Facebook was the shit lmao.
Just when i thought Score Esport stop showing Ryu clip, they suprise me again. Poor Ryu.....

I’m a big gamer I play a lot of the new titles but Tetris is still my favorite I’m pretty good at it I like the ones on switch on og game boy and ds and effect of course
Here I am feeling like a boss at level 14 with a high score of 109,080 playing classic tetris on my phone 😂
Boom place piecement
Yea, i think for every other mainstream esport; getting to a "pro" level seems kinda doable. But, when you watch a tetris pro match or seeing some pro tetris player play the game, you already know that you just cant get to their level ever. Not in this lifetime anyway.
That's debatable. Most of the young pros got their start either from Boom! Tetris for Jeff or from Joseph beating Jonas, which is about five years tops. With the recent rolling maneuver, classic Tetris is actually more accessible now than before.
It's very possible
Man streamers have moved on from chess to tetris the 2020's is just a throwback and a good one
Failed to say how the game's dropping pieces keeps rising and at level 29, it becomes impossible.
Also no, your high spec gaming computer is not overkill for Tetris, specifically Tetris Effect Connected
CTM Gang rise up
If it's intense why not make a video on it already? So you can help the scene grow
Puzzle esport is out of their genre, they won't understand what's actually happening, unlike cs, valo, etc. Tetris is actually more complex than these games
@@thecollectorsinged113 Tbf they already don't seem to fully understand what's actually happening in big games either so yeah, Tetris will be complicated
@@thecollectorsinged113 They probably should consult with @aGameScout. He does a lot of reporting and documentary work for the scene.
@@thecollectorsinged113 coming from someone who has played way too much nes Tetris, it isn’t more complex, it’s definitely complex in different ways though.
@@thecollectorsinged113 plus they didn't really the whole difference of classic and guideline in that video, so they might get them mixed if they were to make a whole vid
Rip Jonas nothing will be funnier then the vod of Jonas vs. Jeff and the commentators gasing up Jeff going wild with "TETRIS FOR JEFF" then Jeff loses
tetris pro players are insane, i once got to play with a very skilled player and it ended in a minute. Man was doing t spins left and right
The fact that the game took 1 min prolly means ur also very skilled most tetris matches doesnt take that long (unless ur talking about classic nes)
