I always love your videos. You two are great working companions ;) and compliment each other. You're both hard workers and do excellent work. Hope you get some rain soon. 🙏
Well bud I see the master craftsman is at it again whew. Aww the auger truly a great invention. Where is the lifeguard tower going to go 😂😂That was so well done much respect May Peace Health and Happiness follow you and yours
I watched your latest video 📹 this morning with some of the world's best maple 🍁 syrup. 😋 A cracking video, y'all. My busy, industrious mates are back at the new projects. What a fantastic adventure to share while I had my coffee and pancakes. Your mate, Puck in NOLA. 😊
Want to see your next video, when you get to moving the outhouse, including the digging of the new hole. Good video and see you soon in the next video.
We had hard rain x 3 yesterday in SE Wis. About an inch of rain but we are still in drought. We were watching the air and water show in Milwaukee and we could see the rain coming from the south. 😊
we bought a house with a 15x30 RV port , 12 ft high.just 6x6 posts and a steel roof. i added metal on 3 sides and built large barn doors last year. now im doing this ,adding a shed roof off the left side mainly for firewood storage. i am using 12 ft 4x4 posts strait tamped in the ground. im wondering if 4x4s are enough. im only overhanging 4 ft . but it is about 9.5 feet up. its solid clay and rocks . very solid ground. seeing the 6x6 posts got me thinking about snow load.
I have seen some crazy buildings or gazebos hold a lot of weight with just 4x4.....but I rather be safe than sorry. Hopefully your pitch will shed snow?
I wish I knew you were planning this post stuff.. When I put in my 26' 6x6 pressure treat power pole, national electrical code says NOT to use Concrete ... but to use only gravel. I will use concrete with steel maybe but the reason is wood posts in concrete will rot off... pressure treated post will! ... The gravel is purposed to let the water run off away from the post. Of course deep and packed very hard... just letting you know and readers...
Hey there, welcome. Ya the whole northern half of Michigan is sand.....sand....and well....more sand, lol. Appreciate ya being here and commenting. Hope ya enjoy our channel, we try and have some fun here 😀
Thanks Kristin.....the rain catchment one fills up and then we pump it into the cabin tote. This way it gets filtered one extra time and dirt from the roof settles in the catchment tank. We surprisingly don't use too terribly my water in the cabin....like one tank every two weeks or so.
Wish I could send some of the rain we are getting, to you (almost a daily shower or storm) From North Carolina. Some fields here are already getting a second cut on hay fields. I would recommend putting some hurricane ties on both ends of those rafters. So, What's the plan for underneath this?
I was originally thinking firewood....but the outsides ended up pretty low....so now I'm just thinking wood splitter....yard tools.....mowers and such. Sugar shack maybe for boiling maple syrup
@@OffgridwithJayandJen I was thinking tool storage too(as I watched you building it) But, I do like the firewood idea too, at least part of it. It is low, but not as low as the front part of your current woodshed. A lot of wood could be stored in there! If you have some access to some pallets, they would make great walls with a lot of ventilation to season your firewood. Or, if you wanted to use it as storage, use the pallets anyway, that would give a lot of area to attach your tarps to. I love y\alls homestead, just wondering when you're gonna add some chickens and maybe pigs. Both are very easy to have on your type terrains!
@chipprice1174 great ideas buddy...👍. We are holding off on animals for a while....we really like gardening and growing stuff so we are going to focus on that for a few more years first
Excellent work both of you what is this part of the pole barn is use for here from Ontario Canada ( I put it on my Facebook)have a great week ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦😎
Lol.....that's why she was taking them off ...we re-use them...ha ha. Now that lumber is reasonably priced again.....when dimensional boards are needed....we are buying them to speed up the process. Summer comes and goes quick around here. Lol
Jen is funny!! and your working really well together doing a great job. 😊 I do have a question. You get a lot of snow, and if you put the gutter on the leanto roof with that pitch, couldn't the weight of the snow and ice rip the gutter off ?
The snow most certainly can rip the gutters off. I will be installing them very soon and will try and share my strategy and thoughts about making them work and stay safe.....it may work....it may not
Been watching your channel for a good while now. As you said in this video you will be putting gutters on. Hopefully that's both buildings. Also watching you auger those holes , seems like you have alot of sand. Have you tried a sandpoint well or did I miss that episode?
Yes my friend.....lots of gutters going up soon. Yes we tried a sand point well just a few videos ago. Check out our video list on our channel page you will see it 2 or 3 videos ago. Appreciate your support my friend
@@OffgridwithJayandJen you spoke about using some sort of level that was a clear tube with water. I think I understand how this works but could you clarify? I’ve not seen it done before.

Love the lean to but more DETAILED instructions on how you did what you did would have been good, newbie here trying to build one, trying to figure out how to measure for the outside posts where the Rafters set, like distance from the existing.
Tape measure, lol. Just kidding.....but it is the truth. If you watch the video you will see we are just putting in posts and buying boards that will reach. Cut to length.....easy peasy. Not being smart....just honest. Do it
You’re doing great Jenny!!
Can’t wait to see the snow slide off that this winter!!! 🤭😜
Thanks Michy.......hopefully it slides off better and more safely than your your home. 😉
@@OffgridwithJayandJen shit man, I hope so too!!! 🥴
Good video. It’s the first one I’ve watched. The first of many no doubt. Stay warm.
Thanks for being here ! Enjoy! We have many videos !
Finally a video depicting my exact process. Sawzall, torx lags. Jig saws Bing bang boom simple. I like your style.
Glad it resonates with you. Simple is good.
I'm more than capable of building my own lean-to, but I enjoy watching you two build together. Jen's antics are especially amusing 🎉.
Woot woot
Love the subtle stickers on his back. You are SO funny. I was talking out loud to my TV, and was not so kind. Lol
Love it 😀
I always love your videos. You two are great working companions ;) and compliment each other. You're both hard workers and do excellent work. Hope you get some rain soon. 🙏
Thanks Joan......you kind words are much appreciated
Wow, great addition guys. The get away cabin is becoming so homely, so many improvements. Well done Jay & Jen❤
Thanks Heather....😊😊😊
Looking good. Y'all work well together.
Looking good so far! That roof is gonna be so much more of a rain catcher now! Hopefully you'll get the rain to fill them all up! 👍
Fingers crossed!

Lol Jen I have the same pool, mine is bigger and I bought it for my granddaughter. That’s so funny.

Looking good y'all. Glad to see you finally purchased some lumber, lol, we were on the verge of buying a sawmill too. Thanx for sharing, Be Safe!!
Ya buddy.....prices of lumber has made buying it and speeding up the builds worth it. If they jump back up in cost we will go back to the mill,.lol
Hello my lovely couple you both are always building something different it's nice lovely video Rosa olbera

Thanks for sharing, you can always use more storage.
For sure....thank you
Looks great guys that’s gonna be an excellent add on for the barn , keep on keeping on !! Thanks for all the videos and laughs
Thanks my friend.....it is surprising how much storage space is needed for tools and machines around a piece of property. Best wishes buddy

its about 5 on 12 also its facing the south. sunny side. it should be good. as long as my neighbors dont call the town. lol.
I'm not getting rain either.😕Add on looks great 👍
When cutting the birds mouths, lay another board next to it to keep the saw level.😊

Good stuff....ya we don't use concrete either. The sand is hard and drains well here so not much reason to use it
Great job !!!
Thanks Donna
Watching you drill those holes makes me think that if you kept it turning as you pull it out, it would take more dirt out.
It does work well that way too....but it fills my boots with sand....so I stop and do it this way. Lol
@@OffgridwithJayandJen Just duck tape ur boots to ur legs! Ain't no dirt getting in!🤪
Excellent bushcraft! Are you going to leave it open or cover it on 2 sides with metal? 🙂👍👍🇨🇦

We are excited about the rain catchment too 😀
Beautiful Jen
You can collect a lot of water from that roof now jay need to put some more gutters up on the house to
Soon my friend
.....soon 😊
Next you should build a cover room over your door where you just cemented a pad.
Soon my friend....it's next on the list

😊😊😊
Looks great! What are y'all gonna use it for?
Firewood....and small machine storage. Like the wood splitter, lawn mowers, roto tiller. Lots of fun stuff
How did you calculate how much material you guys needed for the build?
We knew the length of the barn was 20 foot long and needed a rafter every 16 inches a couple boards for the cross beams and 3 posts. Easy peasy
If the chalkline isn't leaving a mark, just pull it tight, and put your square against it and draw your line.😊
