Update: I only got about 2.5k miles out of the rear tire. I could have run it to 3k, if I wanted to. I admit, I ride pretty hard on my 1200. However, I like the performance of these tires, but I will not be using again due to tread life.
I'll bet B'Stone will come out with a version 2 with more tread depth. It seems the rear tire life is a universal major complaint. I'd put up with a bit of squirm on the street from deeper lugs to get a couple more thousand miles out of them.
What's going to be the new option?
2500 miles... And pretty hard riding... I reckon that's awesome. I get less than that from Karoo 3s
What are the alternatives? Michelin?

Really enjoyed your review of the AdventureCross AX41 from Bridgestone. I put a set on last summer prior to my trip to RawHyde in Colorado from Western Nevada. As you said in your review they performed equally well on road and off road. I kept them pumped up to 36 psi due to the fault you mentioned. I got almost 5k out of them. Price point for them was great. Thanks and keep up the good videos.
Thanks for the review. I have the 2010 GS upgraded for off-road. I’ve had TKC80, Anakee Wild, tractionator Adventures and Shinko 805/4. Just coming to the end of my AX41’s. For this bike they are the best dual purpose tire. Anakee was very good too but screams on the highway and gets worse over time. Tractionators were great in the rear, especially for wear, terrible on the front. TKC80 was a good tire but has been well surpassed in most areas with better technology. The AX41 are very good on and off road and in wet conditions. No, they don’t last forever, but I believe if you plan on any off-road adventure you buy tires for worst conditions not the best. 3000 miles for an averagely aggressive rider is really pretty good. I could melt TKC80’s in 1000 miles. If you wanna play off the tarmac and do so with confidence get the right dual purpose tire. I live in New Zealand so 3000 miles is not going to leave me stuck on some cross continent journey. If I was over in Merica, I’d probably put a tractionator adventure on the rear and and an AX41on the front for a longer journey with off road sections. On big bikes, the AX41 are the pick of the bunch when it comes to doing everything well. My 2 cents. Thanks again for the review 😀

What's your opionion on the Shinko 804/5? I come from enduro and supermoto and the Shinko's amazed me as an ADV tyre, but I'm new on ADV. For my 1090R they are super offroad, onroad they go fast but stick really good!
@@Flip2theOzz I have a modified 2008 r1200gs and have had both those Shinkos and they are great all round tyres. The rear is so so off road and doesn’t have a lot of tread depth. however the carcasses are not as tough as other tires. After 10 years of messing around with what works for great general adv riding I have settled on Motoz adventure rear tyres (or Rallz) and any of the following on the front: ax41, shinko 804, Anakee wild, Motoz Rallz. They all handle very well for what they are. But please note, I live in New Zealand where our roads are all windy, chip seal and bitumen. There is no concrete to be seen. We don’t drive a 80-100mph (and none of those tires are designed for that sort of riding). If your just wanting the odd backroad experience in dry conditions then the conti tkc70s are very good along with the Dunlop trailmax. Both give great wear and handling on road. You will go mad looking for the next best tire that might make you a better rider. Just enjoy the road and trails. Find tires that work for you, learn their characteristics and stick with them. You’ll have ever growing confidence 😀. Currently i’m on Motoz front and rear and very happy.

I’m on my second set of these for my tiger 800xcx. I put 6800 miles on my first set. Huge fan of these tires! Like you said, great on the road, great on the dirt. I just go into knowing they wont last forever.
How do they perform in high speed corners on tarmac? And also in wet tarmac?
6800 miles IS for ever,Ive never had any rear tire go that long. 5000 is a record for me.

Bike weight and power plays a big part in tire longevity. I plan on mounting these tires on my KLX 230 Duel Sport. I suspect they will last much longer on a sub 300lb bike with low power.
@4:35 Because "the GS is not a dirt bike" you actually NEED the "crazy off-road traction". Way easier to wash out the front wheel on a 600lbs bike than on a 250lbs dirt bike on loose stuff.
Thanks for the review. My first outing off-road with these tires on my Std Norden 901 ended with a torn sidewall on the Adv cross AX41 front tire and a few flat spots on the front rim. The tires had just been fitted by the dealer with the appropriate air pressure 2 weeks earlier. I'm not impressed with the stiffness of the sidewall of this tire and obviously, there's no warranty coverage for off-road tires that impact something or anything off-road. Duh! I obviously rode the bike off-road and what I consider moderate conditions involving hard-packed soil, looks rock at times, mud and water puddles. I brought this up with my dealer, but I'm not expecting a miracle. Rickk By the way, I really appreciate your channel.
Totally agree with you on the AX41 tires. I have them on my KLR650 and I get a max of 3,000 miles out of the rears but the fronts will go double that. I think they are great on the street and good in the dirt. Mud and sand are a struggle but that could be somewhat due to a heavy bike with not to much power and it's difficult to get the bike going. In Death Valley I road them 500 miles on some nasty sharp volcanic rocks and in sand and that took a good chunk of life out of them. Over all they are good. I might also try the Trailmax Missions next. A buddy of mine has them on his KLR so I'll see how he's doing with them.
Had these on my off-road wheels for my 06 GS and they were excellent but only lasted just over 2K. This past November I bought a used Tiger 900 RP that came with a fresh set of them. The rear is worn out at just under 1100 miles, most of that pavement. Hard pavement. These tires are pretty good in the curves, surprisingly stable at peg scraping speeds. They are a bit noisy though and have some vibration. The front still has plenty of life left in it, with no evidence of feathering or cupping. I am replacing the rear with another AX41 for an upcoming desert trip, then will likely switch to Missions after they wear out.
Thanks for the review ;) Have you seen Kyle Bradshaw's ultimate tire test? These came up on top though in one of the comments he advised taking Michelin Anakee Wild over for a similar yet longer-lasting tire. Also they're quite pricey in Europe so Anakee Wilds are my choice BUT local suppliers are already experiencing shortages due to issues in the supply chain... Btw, Dunlop Trailmax Mission seems like a great tire for larger bikes, I'd also like to try it if I had a bigger bike ;)

Been running Metzeler Karoo Street and Continental TKC70 on my 2018 GS, happy with both brands but prefer TKC70.
Did you get a chance to try the Dunlop mission trailmax yet? And if so, how do they compare to the battlax adv cross?
Got the A40s on my V-Strom at the moment, the roughest my riding gets is gravel roads. I'd maybe consider fitting these ahead of a tour of the Scottish Highlands which is about a 1k mile round trip for me. I assume I'd get a bit more life than you did on the GS as my bike has like half the power and torque. 2500-3k miles would get me a good summer of riding and then allow for my more infrequent winter rides I think.
I would say because the GS is not a proper light dirt bike you need the best offroad tires available if you go off road
After the numerous sets of tires I’ve run, I’ve found my perfect pair for my Africa Twin with true offroad riding. The AX41 front with the Motoz Tractionator RallZ rear. I beat the piss outta the bike, my opinion is based on how much I trust the tires on the road, mostly off road performance, and a bit of longevity. I feel this set is the perfect all-rounder, truly take it from pavement to tough trails and not have to worry about changing tires. And with adv, the front to me will make or break if you can hit the dirt stuff hard or not Front: The AX41 feels like a road tire on pavement corners and a knobby off road. It handles the heavy adv very well. Doesn’t whine on the road either. 2nd place all-around front is the TKC80. If pure dirt trails with true 10% pavement riding Id select the Motoz RallZ front. It is my favorite for off-road but on road performance is a bit sketch when you want to take fast twisties, which is to be expected for a 80/20 tire. Surprisingly I haven’t tried the Anakee Wild yet.
Rear: The RallZ rear is just perfect all around. Handles all dirt, handles all pavement great (ok, the AT only has 95hp, not sure if it would slip with KTM full throttle), and tire life is great.

Do you happen to have updated mileage on the front tire? I never plan to run the rear, but curious as to what you got out of the front.
The Trailmax Mission tires work as advertised on the GS. Might give the AX41 a try on my 690 though. Needs
something a bit more aggressive and the 690 probably easier on the tire for wear.
They would be great for the 690!
I suspect you’ll like the Dunlops. I’ve got a set on my 1290 SAS and Tiger 800 xCA, and they’ve been awesome thus far.

I think Dunlop could have started out with a couple more mm of tread depth. Motoz for one seems to make tires that perform well and get good mileage. I run a Motoz GPS, performs well on and off road and at the rate it's wearing will get over 10,000 miles.

Got these on my Royal Enfield, had to up the tyre pressure due to vibration issues on front end.
How did the front wear! Looking for a better front tire
Slap these on a smaller ADV like a KTM 390 Aventure and they'd be godly tires I'd expect.
Due to the much lighter weight compared to the GS, longevity will not be an issue anymore and they will probably last twice as long due to the lower end torque.
Ten minute tire. Looks great, works great for a little while anyways. They need to make these last longer.
Go try the Motoz Rallz a fantastic tyre
I use Metzler Roadtec 01s on my bike since I don’t take it off road at all . 4 thousand miles on them and the still look good like 90% . Very little wear .

Thanks for the AX41 review, and I am tempted to try one on the front only, but the downsides of the AX41 I see are: 1. Q 100 mph speed rating - I have to ride 85% of that max speed to keep up on CA freeways, so it seems like a bad idea to pick a tire to ride so close to it's max rated speed capability. 2. soft sidewall - my adventure bike has tube wheels, so it seems like a soft sidewall would be more prone to tube pinch flats, at lower dirt pressure out in the middle of nowhere, than a more sturdy sidewall. 3. it has knobbies, which means it is louder on the tar, and has less rubber contacting the tar for traction in the twisties.
What are your thoughts on speed ratings? How about stiff vs rigid sidewalls on tube type rims still on heavy adventure bikes? I don't like to deal with flats, especially front flats, out in the middle of nowhere. Is the AX41 as loud on the tar as a TKC80? And is it really possible for a tire with less rubber contacting the tar, like a knobby, to have equal tar performance as a non-knobby tire?
I wish there were reviews of front and rear tires separately, because rear tires that I can wear out in 2500 miles (like the tkc80), don't interest me anymore. But since front tires generally take longer to wear, fronts that give me more traction in the dirt and still preform well on the tarmac, and aren't too loud, interest me greatly. I don't mind mixing and matching different fronts and rears, so reviews that specify the characteristics of fronts and rears separately would be very useful to me.
I am currently running a GPS front and 'TKC-70 Rocks' rear on my tiger and am liking this combo pretty well so far (600 miles of 50/50 sb/riverside co riding). But I have seen many reports of premature cracking on Motoz tires, including the GPS, on the internet, so I am looking for my next front in case the GPS doesn't work out. I want to consider the AX-41, but my concerns outlined above currently prevent me from considering it. Please comment if you think I am overthinking my concerns. And please forgive my long comments - hopefully you find them amusing - LOL. Thanks for the video!

IMO the trailmax mission front is to sketchy in sand or mud the rear I must say is very predictable!

The A41 will easily give you 5500 miles. I’m at 4600 with solid life left. My split is about 60 slab and 40 off-road. They are more slab oriented at this point, but that is expected with 4600 miles. I have run at or slightly below tire recommend pressure of 35. Great tire, don’t let this review steer you away.
By using traction control I got 5000 miles out of the stock TKC80 on my 890.........so nothing is impossible...........spinning the tire on gravel on a heavy bike will kill any tire really quickly.............and an 890R wants to spin all the time no matter the dirt or grave..........run a tall gear,still go pretty good ,with traction control it wont kill the tire.

@@ionutd84 I did buy another set. To this point, I have about 1000 miles on them. My riding style is moderate to aggressive, and I'm 6'4" at 240lbs, plus bike weight packed out. This has been the most versatile tire I've had to date. At the end of the day, it comes down to personal preference and how they feel. They have a reasonable price point for the expectations of the tire. Some folks like the game of "ride as many brands as you can." I'm more of the mindset, "when you're at a good party, don't leave to look for another one."
What about the Michelin Anakee Wilds or Mitas E-07+? Truly appreciate your videos, as they are extremely thorough and well done. Keep up the good work.

I have had e07+ on my 08 1200gsa, does everything I ask of them and I have taken the bike where many 4x4s fail. I have 10000kms on the current set and still have decent wear left.
I have a E07 on the rear and a Anakee wild on the front of my tiger XC, Thats the way I got it! The on road performance is exceptional, even in the wet, back tyre is now gone, just found some ax41's very cheap, man sold his bike and selling a new set he haf for it, for a good price.. was going to get another E07 or a wild, but the wild is the same price as the two 41's.. the E07 is 3/4s of the price of them... so my try the bridgstones out yet.. I ride very hard on road, bit of a chicken off road but loving, having a play all the same hehe
I have a r1250gs and ordered these tyres as I really wanted good on-road grip.
However I cancelled the order as a friend only got 4000kms on his Gs. I’ll do 5 days commuting to work on-road and weekends off-road. I however want good on-road performance and off-road grip as I’m poor on dirt. A set will cost me $500Australian. Given I do about 1500kms per month I just can’t afford tyres every 3 months or so... wish I could. I might try these but perhaps also try the Michelin Wilds. Thank you for the video !

I wonder if I will get significantly more my miles on my crf300l being that it is way lighter and has much less power. Anyways I ordered a set today as they are about 20% cheaper than all other brands and on par with Shinko pricing where I live so I figure let’s give them a shot.

William how are the ax41 working on your crf300l? I'm thinking of installing a set on my 300 rally. To me it seem like a perfect tire for the 300's lighter weight. Not worried about mileage and I like the pricing. I ride about 60% road and 40% off road. Thanks.
Might be work out better on lighter bikes like the Honda CRF's?
I got about 1800 miles on my 450RL. I could have squeaked out some more street miles, but I was uncomfortable with the tread depth for off road. Definitely wouldn't have gotten more than 2500 miles even pushing it. I'm now on to a Motoz Tractionator hoping for longer life.

Tread depth............I just put on a Moto z Rally tire with lots of tread depth...................the noise is insane ,different at all speeds but the vibration is way worse than the noise...the entire bike vibrates badly.......horrible on any short road section...........Im taking the rear off and getting rid of it.........and will try an AX41...............I can ruin rear tires of any sort even on my DR650 in 2000 miles If I ride it hard...........its how tires work...........My 890 I know if I nail it I'll kill the tire quick. Gotta use a little discretion.

Tires wear out. They wear out because they give you traction. Professional motorcycle Racers put new tires on for every practice qualifying and race event. I know we're not all professionals here and don't have the ability to put new tires on our bikes every time we ride but you need to realize that tires wear out. I would recommend a heidenau K 60 Scout for your riding style and ability. They will almost last forever.😘

0:01 Video trickery. My motorcycle does cast shadows either. I hate the greenscreen honest reviews. The motorcycle in this shot doesn't even distort the shadow of the tree passing unaffected through the front tire. Most likely in a hollyweird studio.
