I'm sad they didn't have the "Princess I've found you at last. No more pretend, you'll be gone that's the end" line. That was my favorite line in the whole movie.
Yaryna I loved that part too! I'm also sad they took out his part at the end where everything goes quiet and it's just Dimitri saying "to her" and then everyone else ends it.
Dimitri's part is a little weaker lyrically. I know he doesn't know who Anya is yet in this version, but that was always one of my favorite moments in the film
Am I the only one who misses in at the end in the movie version everyone sang "PARIS HOLDS THE KEY" then really softly Dimitri would sing "to her" and everyone would sing "HEART" That was always one of my favorite things in the movie version I was really sad not to hear it in this version. I also thought Dimitri's part in the movie was better than in this version. Had more feeling or something but that's just my opinion. Amazing singing and soundtrack though.
lyrics VLAD Voilà! Mes amis, here’s Paris. Now that we’re here, follow me. Begin with the new As you stroll down la rue. VLAD & ENSEMBLE And soon all Paris Will be singing to you. Everyone’s a writer, painter, poet. Everything is avant garde Or chic. VLAD We’ll be in the know Before we know it. VLAD & ENSEMBLE When you’re in the know it’s- Oh, it’s magnifique To find in Paris what you seek. DMITRY Paris holds the key to her fate. We won’t have much longer to wait And then come what may We will each go our way… ANYA I dreamed of a city beyond all compare It’s hard to believe that I’m finally there. VLAD At last, there’s a future. DMITRY There’s freedom. ANYA There’s hope. ALL In the air! ALL & ENSEMBLE Paris holds the key to your heart The pleasures of life à la carte Come dance through the night And forget all your woes The city of light How it glitters and glows And one never knows what will start Paris holds the key to your heart!
I absolutely love this new soundtrack, with it being more realistic than the movie, however I wish they hadn't changed dimitries part because in the movie version we really hear how he's falling for her and he's sad that he knows he's going to have to say goodbye soon, but in this version it really doesn't show that, expecially at the end when he said "to her" heart. But I really love everything else about this new soundtrack 😊😊 And thank you so much for uploading all this wonderful music!!!!
SPOILER ALERT: at the end of the musical dimitrie runs off with anya into the sunset and both of them are never seen again it is actually really good just so you know
I haven't seen it, but I imagine this song as a huge, glamorous, 42nd Street-styled tap number (even though I don't really hear the sound of tapping xD). And it makes me even more depressed that I will probably never get to see it...
I'm sad about the changes to this song too. However, after seeing it live, I think if they included all the things in the original that aren't in this version, it would create a huge tone problem. This version of Anastasia is a much more mature telling of the story than the animated film (nothing against the film btw, it's one of my favourites) so the original campiness of this song just wouldn't work. I still think they should've involved the 'to her...HEAAAAAAART' tho because what am I, an idiot?
Shoji Chizuru I liked Sophie, but I thought she was such a fluffy character. She didn't have any substance. I love Lily, she has such a great personality and stage presence. I personally don't think Sophie would have carried well from movie to stage, as funny as she was.
Same! Although I’m a bit not that excited for it merely because the reason we’re doing it is because the theater teacher already has someone he really wanted to play Anya.
@@baileycox6847 ah that sucks! I have completely changed my tune on this song now though. I hate it lol. We did it too much and now it annoys m to no end. It was still so fun though, I hope you still enjoy the production even though you may not get the part you want!
I absolutely love this musical and the entire soundtrack so very much, it's amazing. I just absolutely wish they still kept Dimitri's part where he says "to her" and "princess I've found you at last" (I know he doesn't know it's her yet, but still) because that part was just, ah! But still, I love this soundtrack so much!
I think I like most of the lyric changes here! "A rose is a rose" never made sense anyway, "glitters and glows" fits the song much better. And similar with the other changes. I do miss the dimitri lyrics a bit but some things have to change to better fit timelines and such.
Does anyone else listen to these songs and remember how when they were kids, they would dance and sing along to this movie? I wasn't born till 1999, but I remember how I loved this movie and named anastasia my favourite Disney princess. But when I mentioned her to my friends, no one even knew her. It really upset me. But when I was 8 years old, my mum told me that it was based on a true princess, and I've spent at least 10 years researching her and her family's story.
Love the song.... BUT THIS IS WHEN DEMITRI REALIZES HE LOVES HER AND THAT SHE HAS A JOB THIS IS A REALIZATION AND HE DOESNT SAY THE “pari holds the key to her past yes princess I’ve found you at last, no more pretend you’ll be gone that’s the end.” And then the PARI HOLDS THE KEYYYYYY “too her....” THATS EVERYTHING BRO
I absolutely love this song in both the movie and the musical, I'm disappointed with Dimitri's part though : (. One of my favorite parts in the whole animated film soundtrack, I know this sounds lame, was when he goes 'to her' and then they sing heart. I wish they would have included Dimitri's original part which was much better. I for sure liked this song in the animated film better. I still love this song ad the rest of the soundtrack and love it more and more every time I listen to it. : )
Feeling sentimental, got to see the show a few weeks before it closed. The movie was so nostalgic for me, so I was in bliss, well that and the over-priced but strong adult premium beverages haha it was beautiful
I think they should have put in dimitris “to her” and then they all sing HEARTTTT. Cuz let’s be real here, Derek would sound SO good if it was like that!
Personally, I like this version better. Maybe because I’m such a musical theater fanatic and this version is stronger as a show-stopping musical number. I appreciate the movie version, but I understand why they made the changes that they did. The song as it was wouldn’t have worked in this musical, even though it was perfect for the movie.
I do love a lot of revisions in the musical like the ones in learn to do it, but this song was perfect how it was :(. It still is a lovely song and I definitely will never skip it, but WHY did they change it? I guess dimitri’s part in the song is fine because they changed the plot but why the rest of the revisions? :(
I saw this live the other night and while I know the cartoon version can do a lot more than a stage version, I felt like the original was more theatrical than this one so I was kind of disappointed in this. I really love most of the changes they did for this musical, but this was not one of them.
This just isnt as grand as the original. I mean its Paris. The Shining city that the everything builds up to. The City of Eropean freedom and enlightnement. If somone could remix this to add in some of the original and more instumental power behind the song that would be perfect.
ik Everyones disappointed in dimitris line missing but I was so disapointed how the song just ended. like... either keep the "OOH LA LAA" from the movie or do a nice high belt. :(
This was one of my favorite songs from the musical. Unfortunately, when it started, there were these two idiot women in front who were standing up recording on their phones and were blocking our view. We all got upset, and a guy in the back got mad and yelled for them to sit down. I probably misses the first 15 - 20 seconds of it.
natschmat917 that was so disrespectful! You’d think security or ushers would have told them to stop recording because (1) it is very much illegal, and (2) it is extremely rude.
If you're filming a bootleg at least try not to be obvious! All the other slime tutorials I've seen they always sit down, keep the camera to one angle and stay hidden.
Jezzy vidz Sophie was replaced with Countess Lily (a relative of the Dowager). So she was Russian not French in the musical. A shame but not a bad alternative.
I'm not feeling that ohl la la the movie gave. Almost all the songs from the play are just weak compared to the explosion of emotion each song had in the movie.
They ruined every song from the movie except “Once Upon a December” and “Journey to the Past”, every other song was removed or butchered beyond repair. And the new songs just don’t match up to the ones from the movie, except “In a Crowd of Thousands”.
I'm sad they didn't have the "Princess I've found you at last. No more pretend, you'll be gone that's the end" line. That was my favorite line in the whole movie.
I feel ya

The “to her..” is the part I miss most. 😔 I still sing it.
Dimitri's part is a little weaker lyrically. I know he doesn't know who Anya is yet in this version, but that was always one of my favorite moments in the film

Cameron Denney YES I LOVED THAT IN THE MOVIE, I THOUGHT IT WAS SO CUTE
Cameron Denney yes, I miss it. too! I also miss Sophie (or Lily now IG) part. Or Maybe I just miss Bernadette Peters😂
COMPLETELY AGREE!
And the beginning there was a girl screamed, 'Lovers!'
It was good too :(

Angel Of Justice they changed the plot, so they had to change the lyrics.
Carlos Alejandro Alvarenga ahhh thanks! Man now I really wished I could see the musical!
Angel Of Justice i het chills from that part

dot look up anastasia alphabet. Look in the comments ;)
i do hope to see the tour this November in Costa Mesa
Hello friends, quick update: I actually just got to see the show last week in Germany! Dreams come true, don't lose faith

NOOOOOOOO what happened to 'ooh la la', that was my favourite thing about this song

this number as a second act opener is phenomenal!!
Why is this musical not recorded on dvd??? I would love to see it and I could never get to a live show since I live in the mountains and don't drive.
I wish it was still Sophie singing.
Shoji Chizuru I liked Sophie, but I thought she was such a fluffy character. She didn't have any substance. I love Lily, she has such a great personality and stage presence. I personally don't think Sophie would have carried well from movie to stage, as funny as she was.
Sophie, like Bartok are just there for comic relief. Not a bad thing of course but those characters are very one dimensional.
Olivia Hill yes I agree! But I still would've loved Bernadette peters to return 😂
We’re doing this musical for my school play this year, and his song is always so much fun to rehearse. It’s so upbeat and r the choreo is so much fun
Hey same we're doing it this year too!
Same! Although I’m a bit not that excited for it merely because the reason we’re doing it is because the theater teacher already has someone he really wanted to play Anya.

@@manuelorozco7760 It's just so...ahhhhhh, you know?
Anime Books13 Huh?
@@manuelorozco7760 I was just fangirling over how wonderful that scene was, a tad XD
Anime Books13 Oh right. Well I’m seeing this show next month more as a musical theatre geek and less as an inner 5 year old. I’m 26 now

Dmitri's part in this song in the movie got me every time....especially the "to her heart"....I'm so sad they cut that

The orchestra is so good in this song omg

Yeah but he doesn't know she's Anastasia yet
This is like the "Emerald City"(Wicked) of Anastasia
Pooja Mohalkar You Mean One Short Day
Yeah. Derek who played Dimitri played Fiyero
The funny thing about that is that for a showcase I did, we almost did One Short Day from Wicked, but we did this song instead 😂
YESS!!

We get to sing this in choir:)
Always wanted to see this show hit broadway 😍
I LOVE IT!!!
My mom saw it in the show at stage on her birthday they took my mom was pretty much so sure about this topic for this week
How could they cut the best lines from this?! :(
I wish they kept all the references to famous french people. Dmitri was better in the movie too. Too bad.
I stand with WADA i think it was because the song was too long. What a shame, I loved the "A rose is a rose is a rose!" 😂
i keep hearing "10 minutes ago i saw you"
Personally, I like this version better. Maybe because I’m such a musical theater fanatic and this version is stronger as a show-stopping musical number. Just saw this show 😍
My audition is tomorrow. pray for me 😩
Where's the French lady? Is she not in this version? :c
Someone knows the lyrics to the reprise they did instead of crossing a bridge on the tour, or maybe a link for the song

I was in a middle school cast of this
I’m in this scene in this show
Any reason why this isn't on streaming services (Spotify)?
Olivia Victorious it is now
I kinda like this better than the original.
*WHERE THE FUCK ARE ALL THE "OOH LA LA'S" AT?* _It added so much humor and character to the song!_

Léa Fréville cast recordings aren't always the best reflection of the show. Live this was one of the best numbers

Nick River well when you have to rewrite a majority of the plot, lyrics have to be changed to fit
The plot is different from the movie so the songs are obviously gonna have to be different.
But if you see the musical it’s truly AMAZING and even though it’s unlike the original its still a beautiful outstanding show
I kinda like the new A Rumour In St. Petersburg better than the original. Also Land Of Yesterday and Quartet At The Ballet are absolute bangers!
