There are so many amazing women in the Japanese skate scene. The Joy and Sorrow DVD series has been highlighting the scene for over a decade. In this Love Note we check in with the creator of the series, Yuri Murai.
Japan has a long and radical skate history. With so many eyes focused on Tokyo in 2021 Vans wanted to make sure that the rich skate culture and storied history didn't get lost in the hype of The Games. Japan has a great skate scene that should championed and celebrated long after this moment in history.
This is the last trip the Loveletters crew took with our beloved Jeff Grosso before his passing. Jeff and the crew had a blast meeting the many Japanese skaters from every generation.

love joy and sorrow. all the little communities that bud up in skateboarding around the world are amazing. i hate/love the olympics, but i do hope having skateboarding in it spurs more people to go out and skate, especially in host country Japan. but those olympic skaters need to show true skating, too. somebody needs to dork off out there and honor this history of Blender, Lance, Grosso, and so many more. Grosso Lives.

Marissa Del Santo’s Zero part from a decade ago shat all over anything I saw in this clip, she went big and actually landed her shit clean, I saw a bunch of bails when it came to any big rails. But no disrespect, they are doing there thing, but to say they are the best? Nah sorry it is you as these girls have some quirky ideas, but are not better than girls from the American continent
