What's incredible to me is how emotionally complex the story of Gwen with her best friend Peter manages to be in just a few minutes. At the beginning of the scene, Gwen asks Peter "How many [pictures] did you take!" and he responds sheepishly, "I think you look great, I don't know" hinting at how he might have feelings for her. Gwen and her dad are shown to have a really close relationship with Peter, Aunt May and even Uncle Ben is there at the table! They show how many dinners they have together, celebrating Christmas, birthdays and Halloween demonstrating that they are practically like family. Gwen stands up for Peter against Ned, she says she didn't really know him as he drank the potion. She meant that she didn't know Peter was struggling with feeling weak, incompetent because of the bullying, he was basically depressed, but Gwen had no idea. Gwen at the dance, she's looking for Peter. Presumably to share her feelings for him? When he's dying, she goes to him. Peter says, "I just wanted to be special, like you. Gwen" and he tries to life off her mask, but even in his final moments, Gwen is still unable to be honest, to be vulnerable. Even to her best friend.

Cause that part is after she got sent back home. Her banging the drums and leaving is the end of the movie, when she grabs her friends to go after Miles.
1:06 I literally see something new every time I watch this. It’s cool how this inner monologue Gwen has, seems to take place after the events if this movie, or how they literally show you stuff from the movie while she monologues. It’s such a great opening
This is not only the most gorgeous movie I've ever seen, it's one of the best movies I've ever seen period. The spider verse team runs on magic. The part around 5:58 is one of the best examples.
The best movies are always those that reveal in indirect way the whole story at the beginning and it would still astonish and surprise you. This shows how great is the script writing !
GWEN absolutely *carrying* that Andrew Garfield level spider-angst, I am in pieces🙌 this is so poetic. (And FiNaLly, a true angry tomboy loner who is into a guy is on television 🙌 she’s such a real and unique character. With flaws and struggles. Thank YOU Haliee for Gwen and Vi, such epic girls😁)
@@Snot_Rockets I see it more as a blend of the 2 styles (though honestly I couldn’t tell you what soft indie is). Fits Gwen who is constantly showing us how complex of a character she is. Makes sense that she can’t be defined by one style because piercings, clothes, music subcultures, hair, etc. all make up personal style!
GOD, THAT OPENING SCENE! Seeing that in theatres for the first time had me completely enraptured. I was leaning forward in my seat in gobsmacked awe at the colours, the music, the rhythm, the *artistry.* One of my favourite movie openings ever. And then a month later, seeing it again (also in theatres, but I’d brought my dad and brother this time) while knowing the context? What was being referenced and why? Amazing. 10/10
3:55 His blue shirt is ripped so it looks exactly like the Spider-Man costume. He even has the ripped sweats with bare feet with Peter B. This movie is so fucking good.
2:40 If you slow down the footage, you can see Peter in a dinosaur costume. They foreshadowed his death ten seconds before the death scene using a singular frame. This movie is so fucking good.
Within the first 7 mins I was hooked on this movie 1) the intro music not only displays how Gwen feels, but THE WHOLE THEATRE VIBRATING is what grabbed my attention 2) the color themes displaying Gwen in a sorrowful blue, and her dad in an enduring, cheerful orange conveys without words that Gwen still hurts from losing Peter and Captain Stacy is moving forward and being strong for his daughter. Then, when the two hug, her blue shifts to his orange, signifying her depending on her dad for comfort. Even as they are letting go, Gwen goes back to blue.
What I love about this is the song Self Love is basically Gwen talking about the three men in her life. “He don’t love himself, tryna love me” that goes to Peter her friend who probably has feelings for her but she can’t feel the same way back because he has no self esteem and doesn’t love himself and thinks him getting powers will make Gwen like him. “Cuff me tell the truth to him he don’t trust me” is referring to her dad who wouldn’t believe that she didn’t kill Peter, and chose being a cop over a father. “Oh my she’s a long way from Suburban towns came to the city for the love got to hurtin now” that refers to Miles her boyfriend/love of her life who she traveled different dimensions to be with but ended up with both of them getting heart broken. Such a good song that speaks so much about her character.
I'm loving this movie so so much. Please Sony give Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and their team ALL the time they need to make a PROPER sequel to this absolute masterpiece.
Honestly, one of my favorite parts of the movie was just this renaissance vutlure dude. Like the way that his animations stick for two frames while the writing behind him updates on special moves looks so smooth but also blocky, as if its being drawn in. Goes to show how much visual creativity is in these characters' designs.
I can't describe how much I LOVE THIS OPENING! Aside from Spider-Gwen being my fav, this opening just explodes with personality and style. The music, dialogues and art-style, it all comes together to create a masterpiece 🤩! This isn't just a superhero movie...this is an art that changes lives...including my own 🤩
When the movie started I was squealing in my seat because I love Gwen’s character so much. I don’t have words to describe how much I love this movie. The animation style design story art and music is amazing.
This movie was basically Spider Gwen’s story of learning not to run away from her problems. She realized how her fears of facing them only led to making bad decisions that hurt the people she cared about (siding against Miles and leaving her dad all alone) And the movie ends with her wanting to make up for her mistakes right after reconciling with her dad and then going out to help Miles To me, This is a solid story of character development and redemption of Spider-Gwen that will play out in Beyond The Spider verse
So many of the songs in the OST can actually be applied to cinematics and action sequences in the PS5 Miles Morales game, it's surprising how completely unrelated songs and scenes can complement each ither so well when the source material is the from the same canon
Man, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS INTRO. So awesome this drum thing Gwen does, and I just go full berserk mode when I listen to it, what a masterpiece of a movie
This is a great way to promote a movie! Give people a taste, let them see if they like the thing, and then if they do, give them easy access to seeing it for themselves! Good job Sony! This should set the standard not just for animation, storytelling and character depth, but also for promotional techniques. Bravo!
"too punk rock to give your old man a hu-" *spider Gwen theme plays in the background, almost as if saying to love someone despite your differences, is to be a hero*

Let me tell you, as a nerd, it doesn't matter what your into; video games, books, comics, anime, manga, D&D, movies, doesn't matter. Seeing your favorite stories and characters adapted in a new way, and treated with enough respect, to the point where it's clear the creators actually care about the source material, and their fans... it's a good feeling! I really didn't think I'd see Miles' story made into a movie, let alone improved and expanded upon, and I NEVER expected to see Ghost-Spider in a movie! This is awesome, cheers everyone!
My heartful thanks to all the people who worked on making this masterpiece movie. They have set a new gold standard for animation movies and ofcourse one of the best Spiderman movie of all time.
I love how ATSV clips are coming to RUclips. Now I can pause and just really take my time looking for all the Easter eggs/hints the creators put into this movie. Not to mention to also admire the insanely captivating artwork.
5:18 This scene explains a lot and the animation actually covers this, the father is animated with bright and warm colors because of how expressed he feels about finally catching Spider-Woman, Gwen is in a dark light because it shows the depression she feels about this, she lost her friend Peter and she misses Miles, but when she hugs her father the colors around her begins to become bright, just like her father’s light.
Saw this film 3 times, once on the day it released on my birthday, then another time alone, then again with one of the friends I went to see it with the first time. Both of us agreed on it just somehow getting better on every watch. I fucking adore this film, as well as Into The Spider-Verse of course. The writing, the story, characters, animation, themes, sense of humour, soundtrack, all the small little details, the actually nice use of punk, anarchy, graffiti, rather than demonising/mocking of it, and just the pure amounts of passion and care put into this. It's honestly insane to have a film like this in this world.
The whole opening is perfect in every way, you already feel like you’ve gotten an intense and satisfying experience. Then you realize this is only the first 20 minutes!! And it just grows from there! I love this film so much!!!!
I'm a teenager and I am so moved by this opening scene with all its colours and fluidity. It brings tears to my eyes every time. I watch this every night before I sleep and before every exam and it brings joy and delight to me yet touching the deepest grief I have for having lost my pet spider when I was 4 years old. He was not the only one. 😢
One thing I will always regret in my life is never watching Into the Spider-Verse back when the movie was in theaters. Thankfully, I had the amazing opportunity to see ATSV at my local theater. This movie blew me away with how epic it was.
seeing this in the theaters for the VERY FIRST TIME was such an experience. the only "opening night" experience i've ever had was avengers: endgame. THAT was one of the best experiences ever because the crowd was so into the happenings of the movie and not a single person cared about the screams and vocalizations throughout various parts of the movie. that's why i love opening nights. to have been able to see across the spider-verse opening night would've been a treasured experience.
2:43 “…and I didn’t really know him either. Until it was too late.” I lost my best friend to suicide a few months before this movie was released in theatres. I never detected a thing in the over ten years that I knew her. I didn’t know her either. Until it was too late. Here’s to everyone who has lost someone and felt their heart ache when Gwen said that line. 💔
I love Gwen so much, I relate to her. I always feel so alone and push everyone away. But I like having only one or two friends. And even then I still push them away. Mental health is a really big thing that people forget about
I only just realized that Gwen puckering her lips while returning to her dimension is a direct reference to the writers' original plan to have Gwen kiss Miles at the end of the first movie.
This movie is a masterpiece every scene paused shows how much dedicatedly everyone on the team actually worked while creating this..and the music omg.... Oscars for bg score along with best animated on the way
OMG I love this intro! I'm a music lover, and a lover of drum beats! Once I saw this intro, I instantly fell in love and I was dancing to the drums! The drum beats sound so cute and so pretty! I also love the animation and characters, especially the drummer! Gwen Stacey saying the opening line of the transcript starting with "let’s do things differently" as she plays the drums! It's beautiful, like, so beautiful! The song at 2:05 is a hip hop song! I also love listening and dancing to hip hop and its drum beats! Hip hop drum beats are also one of my favorite types of drum beats! This is a superhero movie, so the first intro song (not the hip hop song) kind of sounds like symphonic metal, which blends metal with orchestral classical music, the latter is the superhero genre's favorite type of music.
Spider-Verse truly provided me with an unparalleled theater experience, making it an absolute must-watch on the big screen. I deeply cherished every element of the movie, from its captivating background music and stunning animation to its engaging storyline. It was a complete package that left a lasting impression.
I saw this in theaters!! Such a beautiful movie. I sadly saw it when there was the sound error in the beginning and Gwen's drums were super loud, so you couldn't hear her dialogue well at all. I'm so glad they fixed it and so happy I can watch it on here now too :)
5:52 I love how Gwen and her father are lit with polar opposite color palettes until they hug, during which their palettes briefly become the same. It's a trick they use a few times in the film, especially during the big reveal towards the end. These are the types of little touches you see in works that are labors of love by their creators.
This is my first 10 minutes of an animated movie ever. Just so much fucking style! I start the movie on to see the beginning and after Miles chats with his dad 1 on 1 im out! Like guddam such a great opening
Peter: I just wanted to be special like you, Gwen. Gwen: Gwen? Who’s Gwen? Peter: don’t worry everything is going to be okay. This broke my heart, because even as he was dying, he still loved Gwen
Also, I really do believe that this is a complete film. It really is, from the beginning of the film to the end. It starts with Gwen and ends with Gwen. That's what the awards pundits are looking at. Plus, it has more in common with godfather part 2 in terms of ambiguous endings.
@@justinchwoo This film is still the critics choice top pick for animated feature. In fact, it has the most nominations for an animated film with the credits choice awards. PGA nominations come out tomorrow so we'll see if this gets the best picture nomination they've been talking about for an entire year. Fingers crossed!. 🤞
For me it was impressive how this started with Gwen playing the drums, whose rhythm expresses her feelings while she narrates, plus the colors, remembering us the first movie and giving us a foreshadowing of what will happen: "I didn't mean to hurt him, but I did, and now he's alone and he's not the only one".. In addition to Gwen's backstory, from before the premiere of the movie I already sensed that they would surely give her a shared protagonism as well and know more about her

Cause that part is after she got sent back home. Her banging the drums and leaving is the end of the movie, when she grabs her friends to go after Miles.
And sadly she’s not the only one who didn’t want to hurt him

I literally see something new every time I watch this.
This opening scene was so beautiful, an incredible way to start an AMAZING film
fr, and i hope BTSV starts with Hobie's flashbacks and reason why he's helping miles
@@syamilkarim33 its going to start with 42 miles becoming the prowler
The best movies are always those that reveal in indirect way the whole story at the beginning and it would still astonish and surprise you. This shows how great is the script writing !
no way its you the guy the doof guy wow

GWEN absolutely *carrying* that Andrew Garfield level spider-angst, I am in pieces🙌 this is so poetic. (And FiNaLly, a true angry tomboy loner who is into a guy is on television 🙌 she’s such a real and unique character. With flaws and struggles. Thank YOU Haliee for Gwen and Vi, such epic girls😁)
I don’t think you know what tomboy means, Gwen is still dressing very girly.
Definitely more punk than tomboy but for sure sad angry and lonely
@@danirodriguez3682 the only thing punk about her is her music, hair, and piercings, she dresses very soft indie though which is quite girly.
@@Snot_Rockets I see it more as a blend of the 2 styles (though honestly I couldn’t tell you what soft indie is). Fits Gwen who is constantly showing us how complex of a character she is. Makes sense that she can’t be defined by one style because piercings, clothes, music subcultures, hair, etc. all make up personal style!
the gwen short film at the start is the beat part of the movie

How the Hell did RUclips allow you to type the word "Fucki""????
2:40 If you slow down the footage, you can see Peter in a dinosaur costume. They foreshadowed his death ten seconds before the death scene using a singular frame. This movie is so fucking good.
Oh yeah, I saw that

@@nour4013yep, thor's entrance is good but the 2099 entrance is just peak badass
Within the first 7 mins I was hooked on this movie
1) the intro music not only displays how Gwen feels, but THE WHOLE THEATRE VIBRATING is what grabbed my attention
2) the color themes displaying Gwen in a sorrowful blue, and her dad in an enduring, cheerful orange conveys without words that Gwen still hurts from losing Peter and Captain Stacy is moving forward and being strong for his daughter. Then, when the two hug, her blue shifts to his orange, signifying her depending on her dad for comfort. Even as they are letting go, Gwen goes back to blue.
This movie is incredible, a must-watch in a theater, the experience is uniquely intense. So excited for the next.
Dude this is such a good analysis of the song.
Good catch
I definitely think she was into peter
@@deanesposito4708 nah I think Gwen likes confident guys. That’s why she liked Miles. Her Peter was a slouch.
I'm loving this movie so so much. Please Sony give Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and their team ALL the time they need to make a PROPER sequel to this absolute masterpiece.
Yeah I'm sure Sony will get right on it now that Christian has made his statement 🙄
It's a crime that they did not include one of the most fire intros to any movie I've ever seen in this video.
I'm confused what wasn't included

I can't describe how much I LOVE THIS OPENING! Aside from Spider-Gwen being my fav, this opening just explodes with personality and style. I don’t have words to describe how much I love this movie. The animation style design story art and music is amazing.
@valletta9351 same here!!!
This movie was basically Spider Gwen’s story of learning not to run away from her problems. She realized how her fears of facing them only led to making bad decisions that hurt the people she cared about (siding against Miles and leaving her dad all alone) And the movie ends with her wanting to make up for her mistakes right after reconciling with her dad and then going out to help Miles
To me, This is a solid story of character development and redemption of Spider-Gwen that will play out in Beyond The Spider verse
So many of the songs in the OST can actually be applied to cinematics and action sequences in the PS5 Miles Morales game, it's surprising how completely unrelated songs and scenes can complement each ither so well when the source material is the from the same canon
My Name is Miles Morales goes perfectly with the cutscene where he gets his own suit in the game
I love how the "He's not the only one" kept repeating but for some reason it works because of Gwen's delivery
This movie made so many people watch it twice ir more in the theatres, and I'm so glad it did. Incredible work!
8:33 I love he's not even angry that she got it right, he's angry he got called 'leonardo da vinci dimension'
It's only ten minutes but it feels like an hour because I can't help but watch it frame by frame. This movie is so, so good.
Man, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS INTRO. So awesome this drum thing Gwen does, and I just go full berserk mode when I listen to it, what a masterpiece of a movie
The best opening to an animated feature since Up. Absolutely incredible.
This is a great way to promote a movie! Give people a taste, let them see if they like the thing, and then if they do, give them easy access to seeing it for themselves!
Good job Sony!

This is how the female character on Spider-Gwen is written well.
I just realised that at 3:43 3:41 Peter tries to take Gwen’s mask off, he wanted to see the face of his best friend one last time 😢
And Gwen stops him while denying that she is Gwen, she can't open up.
i got to the theater a little late and missed all but the last few seconds of gwen's drum intro...saw it for the first time watching on Netflix last night and had to replay it at least ten times...great music, great narration, great animation/art...the spiderverse movies are proving to be some of the best superhero movies of all-time...

I love how ATSV clips are coming to RUclips. Now I can pause and just really take my time looking for all the Easter eggs/hints the creators put into this movie. Not to mention to also admire the insanely captivating artwork.
9:48 " Dark Garfield!!!" 😂😂😂😂
Kingdom hearts into Kingdomverse
The whole opening is perfect in every way, you already feel like you’ve gotten an intense and satisfying experience. Then you realize this is only the first 20 minutes!! And it just grows from there! I love this film so much!!!!
I'm a teenager and I am so moved by this opening scene with all its colours and fluidity. It brings tears to my eyes every time. seeing this in the theaters for the VERY FIRST TIME was such an experience.
the only "opening night" experience i've ever had was avengers: endgame. THAT was one of the best experiences ever because the crowd was so into the happenings of the movie and not a single person cared about the screams and vocalizations throughout various parts of the movie.
that's why i love opening nights. to have been able to see across the spider-verse opening night would've been a treasured experience.

Here’s to everyone who has lost someone and felt their heart ache when Gwen said that line. 💔
the art style blow me away, visual feels like a poem

The intros for this and ITSV are both so incredible
I love Gwen so much, I relate to her. I always feel so alone and push everyone away. But I like having only one or two friends. And even then I still push them away. Mental health is a really big thing that people forget about
6:55 they did not have to go all out with the song

I only just realized that Gwen puckering her lips while returning to her dimension is a direct reference to the writers' original plan to have Gwen kiss Miles at the end of the first movie.
This movie is a masterpiece every scene paused shows how much dedicatedly everyone on the team actually worked while creating this..and the music omg.... Oscars for bg score along with best animated on the way

Till now I listening... Fantastic starting
It’s amazing how the visuals and art come together. But my favorite part of the story telling is the fear response that Miguel’s theme envokes
Spider-Verse truly provided me with an unparalleled theater experience, making it an absolute must-watch on the big screen. I deeply cherished every element of the movie, from its captivating background music and stunning animation to its engaging storyline. It was a complete package that left a lasting impression.
Fun Fact: Gwen's "Theme" is taken from the original Spider-man song, just retimed / pitched. Very cool little detail.
I saw this in theaters!! Such a beautiful movie. I sadly saw it when there was the sound error in the beginning and Gwen's drums were super loud, so you couldn't hear her dialogue well at all. I'm so glad they fixed it and so happy I can watch it on here now too :)
Man they should've included the incredible logo intro sequence too. That sht gave me full body chills in the theater!
I've watched this film twice and even now I'm getting goosebumps by seeing this intro again.
I absolutely love this introduction and the entire film, can't wait for Beyond the Spiderverse.
2:07 Lol. She knew Gwen was gonna leave the band eventually
5:52 I love how Gwen and her father are lit with polar opposite color palettes until they hug, during which their palettes briefly become the same. It's a trick they use a few times in the film, especially during the big reveal towards the end. These are the types of little touches you see in works that are labors of love by their creators.

Also, I really do believe that this is a complete film. It really is, from the beginning of the film to the end. It starts with Gwen and ends with Gwen. That's what the awards pundits are looking at. Plus, it has more in common with godfather part 2 in terms of ambiguous endings.
