    Btw, I've rolled with Gordon, and it was the most confusing time of my life lol. He basically let me do whatever I wanted, and it just didn't work, and then somehow he was working his way to my back, going slow, and choked me effortlessly. I've seen him let himself be put in a fully locked triangle, and very nonchalantly sort of shrug it off like it wasn't even a threat.

      I felt like that rolling with JT Torres. And I have 40 pounds on him. There are levels to this stuff, even at black belt

      @@lsnb2580nah, rolled with him as well. He will match your strength and intensity just enough to let you keep working but there’s nothing you can do. His foresight in positions is god tier

      to be a little fair to amateurs. these guys are training multiple times a day every day, so they need to do a lot of lower intensity training. people training 3 times a week can get away with more reckless training. but i completely agree that the injury risk is still not worth it regardless of the training volume

      Definitly agree. Been grappling for a decade or so, and love to roll with technical students. What bothers me are the students from white to purple who go squeezing like its adcc. When I find a technical student, I tend to roll as often as possible with him. There arent very many of em over here.

      And he’s juiced to the gills and as he said just recently, steroids aren’t illegal in jujitsu. I don’t think he’d be as good as he is without the juice.

    In all honestly though GR looks like the ideal training partner. Slow paced, lets you work and think and process, even gives you opportunities but will return with sharp technique but still being gentle enough to keep everyone safe and uninjured and most importantly no ego.

      That's exactly what I look for when training/learning/rolling with higher belts and exactly how I try to help with lower belts and less experienced (than me) grapplers. Everybody wins.

    Gordon hiding his chin from 1:30 with his partner having back control and both hooks in and just keeping calm is something I need to work on. The escape was so smooth

      it helps knowing he is much better than his opponent and it's going at about 50% speed. the not keeping calm part usually comes from fear of being tapped, whether from fear it will hurt physically or hurt the ego, which he is not worried about

      it kinda is easy mode when your opponent is 2x weaker than you. Nicky Rod, someone just as strong, managed to synch a rnc pretty easily (admittedly after time).

    can anyone tell me how new wave organizes training? like how much technical drilling vs positional training like this vs 'live' sparring , etc.?

      One interview Ryan said 80% positional and 20% live but he stated its mostly flow rolling and positional. He was rippimg on how atos live spar and gives no technical advice just screaming go hard

      @@NDtoker there's a match of giancarlo vs some brazilian and the brazilian's coach is legit screaming in portuguese the entire match yelling absolutely nothing of significance. it's just "get out of there! good! yes! push! go! go! go! no! that's it!" for the entire match. absolutely horrific cornering

      There’s two podcasts with Owen Livesey where he goes into New wave training in DETAIL. Super interesting. Search “Owen livesey new wave” and it comes up, the new wave training parts are time-stamped.

    Excellent back defense, interesting to see what he does.
    He could have prevented opponent from getting both hooks and probably stood up the whole round.
    And methodical, lethal back attack expected.
    Once Gordam gets your back, it's a catastrophe.
    Exceedingly difficult to escape. 😉

      I am far from being a Gordon Ryan, HOWEVER I've spent the last 3 years defending, escpaing, and better believe it, instructors are in awe of how easy I make it look. The more you defend, the more you escape, the easier it looks. I feel better after viewing this, I was feeling guilty for looking shallow and lazy at defending with ease, but if Gordon does it, so can I.
      Lot of subtle movesshort degree from outside the axe of this, brief look the other way, smile step inside, etc, etc, and the entire sequence of your mate is out of sink, even looking timing way off. I love how Gordon trains.
      I can keep rolling in a similar fashion.

    Danaher is always in the corner watching. He needs a Tee-Shirt from Keg, it's like its his Jiu Jitsu and he is in the corner cucking over it.
    On another note this is as much as we are going to see of Gordon until ADCC, when he got rich he stopped caring and is now just protecting what he has. Not sure what the correlation is on selling DVD's and getting hair like a 50 year old lez

      It's not depressing to me, it's just chill. They train for volume, so a lot of their practices are low intensity, technical rounds.
      I just love Jiu Jitsu, so I wouldn't mind a training room like this. Everyone is chill and friendly, learning, and there's probably plenty of fun and banter behind the scenes that we don't see.

      He wasn't trying to escape your average standard scenario. He was 1) allowing his partner to work and improve his position, purely for the benefit of said partner, and 2) he was hoping to get into an esoteric position and work his way out of it. You need reps in every variation of a position. It takes a bit of experience to appreciate the methodology here.
