He's a top competition partner too. Never janks anything, just holding controlled submissions. Even VS Nicky rod in the final he didn't try to hurt him.
@@janringbeck4119 even Craig has said nothing but great things about him on the mat. Anytime anyone's tried to talk down on him or Craig just happens to be talking about top competitors he always goes out of his way to say how great Gordon really is as a training partner
Gordon looks like the best training partner.
He’s not aggressive in his matches either. He’s so confident in his body placement he’s quite literally the personification of “you shall not pass”

I think he makes like $1 million doing ADCC with sponsors so I don’t think he could even do it if he wanted to because it’s on the same weekend. Maybe next year he will probably definitely do it.

Yeah, what's also important to notice is that he doesn't get the sub "for free". The finishing mechanics on display here are super clean.
Submitting to that probably took 3 months off of his life expentacy that he's only gonna get back when he continuously submits him during a roll.

Always been a huge supporter and especially when I found out about your battles with stomach/nausea issues. I’ve been suffering with diverticulitis for 5 years & unless youve experienced it you can’t imagine the horror. You are a true warrior my friend because for you to reach the levels you have under those circumstances is virtually impossible. But, that’s why you ARE the King! Any student of the almighty Renzo is someone I will always support. Can’t wait to see you compete (and dominate) again! Make sure to jam some Pantera during training because THEY are “kings” as well
So good to see the change in attitude towards controlled playful rolling/putting yourself in bad positions to learn….this is the practice style Ryron Gracie was preaching 12+ years ago and the community gave him so much crap for it….its smart training. And the reason guys like Gordon are so good everywhere…because they’ve spent so much time everywhere

Gordon is the modern day Rickson Gracie. No one is on his level. In a no time limit format no one beats him. Even under timed and scored rulesets he's near impossible to beat. His conservation of energy, his understanding of positions, his technique, and even his demeanor during matches is incredible. Say what you want about anyone else, Nicky Rod, Craig Jones, etc. they may be your favorite. Craig Jones is my favorite TBH, but no one is on Gordon's level right now. If only the CJI and ADCC were on different dates, I'd love to see him in both and my money would be on him to win both.
I agree with everything you said except your concern about being on the same date. It will now force other promotions to pay more or be considered a second rate organization. Adcc could and should find the money to pay 1000001 for a couple divisions. That would be the ultimate f you to CJI.

What no one has commented on was that Gordon tapped while training. You don't see it often but it's good to see. He got caught in a leg exchange (although it looked like he's not defending that very well, maybe he's helping his partner work on leg attacks during the roll?). This is good footage. He's controlled and very technical. He let's the partners work. Good stuff

My GOSH!!! The sequence from 5:40 to 5:50 was some of the most exciting jiu-jitsu I've honestly ever seen. They should add this to his highlight reel on BJJ Heroes!

It’s called insecurity. Constantly having to clarify that you don’t care or that stuff doesn’t bother you lol
It's an emotional defence mechanism. I think a lot of these top level athletes compensate for emotional insecurities by getting really good at their chosen sport, and then it becomes their identity. Look at Conor McGregor, Sean Strickland, Ryan Garcia for example (I respect Sean though cos he's honest about his struggles with mental health)...a lot of these guys repress their emotional side, and it leads to a fragile ego that resorts to a lot of posturing in order for them to feel safe. I think that's why Khabib is such a force, because he's a spiritual man (keeping him anchored) with a genuine love for the sport. I think that's why he drove Conor absolutely insane, because Conor knew he had something he didn't...integrity.

Gordon, thanks for sharing your Jiu-Jitsu content. What should you think are the unspoken rules of training with leglocks to ensure a safe environment in the gym? How long should I persist in getting the break during a leglock exchange? How do I know if I must navigate through a guard pass, back takes (bolos), disengage, or keep counter leg locking during leg entanglement situations?
This is what we want, nobody cares about the cars, and the views show, stop saying you dont care...when you clearly care 😊
You can tell a lot about someone by looking at how he rolls, and Gordon is one of the most respectful high-level guys I've ever seen rolling (because not all of them treat their training partners that well, trust me...), even apologizing to the other guy when the move is not as clean as he wants it to be (15:45). Say what you want about him, but he might be the nicest high-level grappler there is.
That's a bit of a reach. He almost hyperextended his training partners' knee in a flow roll. He'd be a dick if he didn't apologise for that
Royce told a great story recently on Rogan about how when he rolled with Gordon, he was very polite, and didn't take openings Royce gave him- out of respect. And in turn, Gordon would leave openings for Royce, who also didn't take advantage of.

About three minutes in ... this dude shoots and Gordon calmly stuffs his head and steps out of the shot. Crazy smooth move. Such smooth, almost lazy economy of motion. And when he explodes... He explodes. Helps newbies like me understand to not be so fucking tense all the time!
