Studies have shown that if a phone is in the room when strangers meet, even if it's off, the strength of their connection is negatively impacted, they don't mesh as well on average (ergo, phones affect our ability to socialize). They have shown that having a phone in a subject's vision reduces their ability to concentrate and focus (bad news for everyone!). And having a phone beside your bed reduces the quality of your sleep, I'm guessing because of the association with notifications, emails, texts, working, watching, playing. And last but not least, taking pictures of everything with your phone literally signals to your brain that you don't need to remember it because it's stored elsewhere. We all need to learn to leave our phones behind. I need to.

Locals don't really want to tell you where any of the good spots are because everything is already being flooded by tourists. Don't bother coming to Oahu, you can barely find a spot on the beach. Maui is starting to become another Oahu with big businesses moving in. Big Island and Kauai are still not effected by the tourism industry as much, but don't expect much. If you do end up finding a sort of secret spot, please keep it secret
It's so rare that I see a pair of best friends SO close & SO cool with each other... kind of like "meant to be" cuz they go together so perfectly. It's so heart warming & wholesome omg 💓

Y'all should go to North Shore in Oahu. I know it's probably too busy for your liking but they have so many beautiful waterfalls, cliff jumping, fruit shacks on the side of the road, etc. the north shore in very chill and there's a public beach we're LOST was filmed!

Jo, Im with you on the whole phone thing! When I went to Cuba and I didn’t use my phone for the first few days because I couldn’t figure out the internet situation. Once I got an internet card I was on my phone for an hour posting and communicating with people but I just felt so gross and gloomy afterward and my whole mood shifted. After that I tried to limit my phone use and leave it behind most of the time. It felt soo much better to just carry my camera around to capture moments. Since that trip I don’t use social media as much and I no longer converse through text. Instead I set up a hangout and catchup in person instead. It’s helped me schedule more face to face time with friends rather than keeping up with them online.
I love how you acknowledged the addiction we have to our devices and how life is so much better when we disconnect. I'm still working on this but it's my decision that I will not spend more than an hour and a half on my phone per day because that's an hour and a half of meaningless time already and I'd rather not waste more. Thank you guys!

You can hike down to waipio valley or drive down if you have four wheel drive. It's also not too hard to hitch hike down and up from the valley. There's a decent amount of locals as well as tourists coming up and down pretty frequently.

It's not *recommended* to swim at a waterfall (you have to watch out for waterborne bacteria like leptospirosis, it's worse after rains) however that doesn't mean that you can't. I grew up on Oahu and even though you aren't technically allowed to swim at Manoa falls, we did it anyway!
I saw a video on the Big Island and the group of peeps went to Waipio Valley. There's this steep and bumpy road but it leads to a really beautiful and secluded beach. And the beach is next to this forest with a bunch of wild horses!!!
Dude you guys should visit Maui and stay in Hana...it’s super chill (you can hike through the bamboo forest up to one of the most beautiful waterfalls you’ll ever see) or you can drive to the other side of the island if you’d like to do more touristy type stuff....(you can also checkout paia which is a dope surf town) or drive up country and ride horses, checkout Haleakala, drink wine at the vineyards, etc...) Maui is soooo dope and full of non touristy stuff and it’s not so big that it’s overwhelming...we literally drove the perimeter of the entire island (although the stretch of “HWY” past Honolua bay “kahekili hwy” is kinda scary as it goes down to literally one lane for traffic that is traveling in both directions and at times you’re literally on a cliff with no guard rails and the road isn’t that much wider than your car.....😃....) nonetheless tons of fun.....Oahu is cool too if you stay on the north shore or even around lanikai beach over in Kailua (beautiful), or drive up the western coastline through makaha up to Kaena point or stop at Yokohama bay beach (again, beautiful and devoid of tourists because most tourists don’t wanna drive through makaha😃).....but yeah, if you guys visit again you should definitely checkout both Maui and Oahu you can definitely get around being close to tourists...awesome video though....✌🏽

Waipi'o valley has great hiking!!!! It's lush and theres a black beach at the bottom :)
