For years I have heard of societies living underground at the center of the earth. This must be where they would buy their skateboards and cassette tapes. My son and I stumbled across your channel close to when you started. I think you had like 12k subscribers. It has been an amazing ride watching your talent grow even faster than your channel. Your eye for taking something such as a simple staircase and making the audience feel a whole range of emotions while feeling glued to the screen is incredible. You have a style of your own and are going to go very far. I'm always left wondering what you could possibly do next to top the last and then you always deliver. Thank you so much for sharing your craft with us and spinning these tales for us to watch. Truth be told my eyes were glued to the screen the whole time waiting on something to jump out or a loud noise and jump scare to happen, but it was not necessary. I felt just as much suspense watching Wyatt walk down a staircase. Even the dialog was spot on and believable. You have an amazing gift and I am honored to watch your hard work come to fruition.

This is absolutely amazing. The footage, the suspense, the mood. No cheap jumpscares, just the human curiosity together with the fear of the unknown. Superb!
Ok….I’ve been on RUclips for roughly 16 years and this type of “thing” is new to me. But….I’m old. Others tell me I’m not but I’m a stones throw from 60. To me, this looked all quite realistic and the thought that it might be fake or CGI didn’t even occur to me. Looked just as I imagined it would look and I bought it hook, line and sinker. The only way I came to realize what it was was because of the comments. I think I’m hooked into a “new thing”. I’m at home and disabled so this gives me something to look forward to…..thanks
Me too brother….me too. Crazy to think of how powerful a person you would be if you traveled back in time with an iPad Pro, camera and just one really good cgi app
It’s just mind-boggling how you can achieve to scare the shit out a lot of people (myself included) with just a stair and a mall 😂 Liminal space horror is proving to be hell of a new genre to explore. Great work as always, Kane!
I love how quickly and realistically this goes from a guy wanting to show off something cool, thinking he found some awesome phenomenon and knowing he's gonna get millions of views through this discovery... to the panic setting in as he realizes this is so much bigger than him. You can _feel_ the confusion and anxiety setting in the deeper he goes. "I am not supposed to be here." 10/10 acting.
I like how Kane knows exactly what we want and finds a way to work around the Backrooms and A24 to give it to us. And on top of that, it gives us a completely new mystery to ponder.
Was trying to piece it together, from what I gathered the first door seemed to enter into some kind of decontamination chamber? Seemed to me like some weird convoluted bomb shelter complete with shopping center lol
I love this new direction kane is going in, he isn't sticking to the backrooms and what will get the most views, he's doing what he wants and that's what film making and RUclips is really about.
This could be just as compelling as his Backrooms videos if not BETTER. This is new and fresh yet has the same charm as the Backrooms videos. I was a bit worried Kane was gonna do something too different that strays from what brought people to his channel, but oh no, this seems to have everything that the Backrooms series did. I CANNOT WAIT for Part 3, but who knows how long that could take to produce!!
I'm hoping this is an isolated series from the backrooms! I think Kane is the king of backrooms content because he doesn't buy into the "levels", which I think detract from the concept. I love abandoned malls and I like horror based on it, but I'd personally prefer that it remains standalone and not associated with yellow walls or hazmat suits per se.
i love these details so much. the camera glitches, the commentary of a man trying his best to stay calm, the slow but all-too-late realization of "im not supposed to be here", the skill it takes to make all of these settings and make all the details flow together. you are pioneering the new age of horror and its awesome
Wow, just the pure dread I felt as he slowly walks down these unexplainable stairs, slowly getting deeper and darker and Wyatt’s voice gets quieter is just perfect. I love it
The further he went down those stairs, the more uncomfortable I got. Claustrophobia and the thought of being trapped deep underground are definitely things that get to me. And just... things that don't make any goddamn sense. Not to mention the thought of encountering a person in a place you're not supposed to be... or something else. Excellent work as always, Kane. Looking forward to the next one!
What started to get me was the never ending fear of a jumpscare. Every corner, every little hole I expected something but there is nothing even 8 minutes in..
Kane is a master at suspenseful horror, no jump scares, literally just a guy walking down an incredibly long flight of stairs and then finding what looks like an abandoned shopping mall. The whole time I was wondering when someone was going to be at the top of the stairs leaving that guy with no where to go.
I like to think just how absurdly dangerous these stairs would be. If you notice, they are not uniform in height or length. It seems subtle but it really throws you off. Medieval castles would deliberately do this to make it more difficult for invaders. Combine that with an absurdly long, uninterrupted staircase without handrails. It's a recipe for disaster. Imagine a group walking them. The more people, the more dangerous they become. If just one were to misstep and tumble, it would take out everybody in the group beneath them.
I'd also like to point out their appears to be wear and tear patterns on the stairs from many people going up and down them. Lotsa traffic to one area, then it all just stopped.
The CGI work turned out so convincing and realistic, I'm really blown away. It's so interesting and so unsettling at the same time. It's not because Kane has to use stupid jumpscares, it's because of the mood, the sound design and the liminal spaces. Overwhelming, I'm so glad that something like this exists. It just pulls me into its spell.
The only part that wasn't was the hole in the ground but that's forgivable because that's real footage meshed with CGI and of course Kane Pixels (although a genius) does not have the budget of Hollywood movies. You'd need a lot of manhours and tech to seamlessly blend real and fake and honestly I thought he did a really good job.
@@reidhanson4755 really, I thought the hole cgi/real mash up was pretty seamless. The only thing I thought was a bit braking was the door at the end it seemed unnatural and flat.
Kane figured out that a lot of his Backrooms viewers also frequent other liminal space channels, like the dudes who explore old abandoned shopping malls. The man is single-handedly pioneering the Liminal Horror genre
"Pioneering" means being the first to do something. Kane isn't "pioneering" anything here, but he is taking the genre to a more technically competent and engaging place. He's raising the bar.
I love how you went from VHS camcorder footage to old iphone video, makes it feel like it could have been more recent! Also, don't let the less views discourage you. Keep doing what you love, and people like me will pile in to watch whatever you make, even if it's not Backrooms related!
I get such House of Leaves vibes when he's going down the stairs, but when he enters the door suddenly it feels like someone wanted to know what Silent Hill would feel like if it were empty. Pure chills.
This is genuinely impressive, I don’t know how you managed to make a 3d environment look so real especially the stairs, but as someone who’s currently studying this sort of stuff congratulations.
Right? I was very impressed with what seemed to be completely unique models throughout the entire thing- I wasn't able to find any tiling or repeated elements
Yeah I feel like it's difficult to make basic empty rooms look natural and detailed Edit: at 8:10 I noticed the texture repeats so it's just a really good wall texture used there and not some procedural thing. Also I assume the stairs are photogrammetry
I'm glad you're branching off into making brand new and exciting content, Kane! I was worried that you might feel like you're forced to do Backrooms content, but I want you to know that's not the case. You're incredibly talented and this is your platform, do what feels right to you! :D
@@DoctorNoon2717 But that's the point, he's young and people can be shitty. Wendigoon sent me! And this did NOT disappoint! I was literally looking through squinted eyes when he opened that first door and there was just darkness. Pretty sure my cat thought I was dying 😂
this is actually insane. no jumpscares, no entities, nothing that can be traditionally considered scary. but it might be your most terrifying video yet. fantastic work.
@@chaotixthefox absolutely, but in traditional horror the tension is a tool. it’s a lead up to the scare. this video is like a song with no resolving chords.
I love the fact that there’s no jumpscare, the tension just builds and builds and then the video ends and leaves you with your mind racing and wondering what happens next. This is exactly my kind of horror.
Which is especially impressive, because there were several moments when it had to be tempting af to put in a jumpscare. The door especially just screams "something evil lives behind here".
The downside of being a 3d artist is having all the immersion shadowed by constant looking for stuff like imperfection of tracking, tiling of textures, jagged geometry on the hole itself. When the man shows the hole from beneath i just automatically thought 'Hey is this that one rock from quixel megascan library that i used a while ago'. Its just subconscious
I totally feel you 😭 I'm no artist by any means but it looks so real to me my brain automatically starts scanning for imperfections to prove to itself that I am, in fact, watching cgi
I was dreading a lame jumpscare all the way through, but you showed remarkable restraint by avoiding the expected. And yet I was super creeped out all the way through. This is fantastic work.
My heart beat faster the deeper he went. Normally a jump scare would relieve the tension, but without one, it just continues to build the anxiety. Damn fine work as always! Would love to see more whether it be this or any other ideas you may be concocting.
Man, with the other videos there was a degree to which I could figure out it was just an animation posing as hyperreality, but in this one I couldn't tell how much of it was practical or not. The stairs and the textures look so convincing but it shouldn't be. That inability to really tell what's real or not adds a lot to the liminal space horror.
For real. The first like minute of this upload I was unsure, whether or not he decided to blend actual real footage with the cgi stuff he creates. That driving footage in the beginning is pretty convincing if it wasn't real...
buzzword buzzword buzzword, are you are a effect nerd too? the film maker has to be one but for us it should not be about the special effects "hyperreality" "practical" "liminal space horror" give me a break dude
I'm in awe of the sound editing and natural convincing language used. Two things, that others in this genre seem to struggle with. It really helps sell it. Bravo!
Ok, so this was actually incredible! The voice acting was spot on, along with the incredible creation of what is to come. The way the guy approached the hole, looking down was INCREDIBLE. Then as he made his way down those creepy flight of stairs really put me at the edge of the seat. I LOVE how this has the backrooms vibe. Maybe we will see many different environments and possible nightmare entities to come!
The first part of this new series didn't give much away, but this second installment was awesome. Great to see you bringing in the creepy liminal spaces of the backrooms into something new
Hey not to discount your comment but I think that is the backrooms the end bit at least specifically level 427 but the stairs and the fact it physically connects to the front rooms bit hard to explain so idk (could easily be completely wrong)
@@jobonotoe Sigh. The "levels" thing was a very dumb idea someone else came up with, same with all the monsters. The backrooms was ruined by edgy kids wanting to shove their uncreative ideas into the lore. But all that aside, Kane's backrooms series has NOTHING to do with the wiki.
@@WobblesandBeanthe levels thing was around long before kane pixels. I know it's not connected, most people do. So why are you even bothering to say the original backrooms lore is ruining his series?
@@jobonotoe Levels aren't a thing in this version of the backrooms. The only connection is that Kane is drawing from the same spaces shown in the OG backrooms 4chan thread. That being said, I do think you are right in the fact that this is part of the main backrooms story; just modern day. We're seeing the fallout of the project and there have been some hints that the world is merging or falling into the backrooms in the "main" series. I'm thinking with the movie in the works he can't do anything in the main time line so he's moving things forward a bit and I don't think we'll be seeing ASYNC being featured much (maybe a throw away line or a freeze frame bonus if that). So I think while this is supposed to be park of the backrooms lore, I also think Kane is gonna keep it somewhat isolated and distinct enough that it can also be seen as its own thing (probably so he doesn't write himself into a wall when he can get back to the main storyline). Basically this is cannon until it's not heh.
@@courtneybrooker588 no idea. Computer graphics are completely insane these days. Especially when it doesn't need to be rendered in real time like a video game.
I can’t get over how amazingly convincing this looks and sounds. So much attention to detail, making sure everything-lighting, textures, audio, everything-works together and is top notch. It’s such a simple concept but so well-done.
I watched at night, and my heart was beating fast out of anticipation that he was going to stumble upon a dark ritual that he was lured into being the unwitting and unwilling sacrifice of... that was nucki futts!!! It was a great enough fake to make me think it was a backrooms stairway to helll !!! I half expected him to have to run all way back up and then realize the 1 and only exit is blocked by a dark robed entity that just as he turned to face him, the hood falls revealing the terrifyingly sight of the grotesque face of a nephilim demon clown that swiftly attacks and sends the phone flying as the end o of the video!!! That was crazy!!!
Well, I am assuming the staircase is actually real. Just cut together well to make it seem endless. possible that its CGI tho. Whats obviously good editing is the hole in the ground in the grass obviously thats not where the actual staricase was located if real staircase.
Also it should be noted that past the door it looks very artificial. Before that it looks like reality. Reason is simple because of the smootheness of the surfaces.
@@anthonyhazel8391 Looks to me like the outside is filmed, but the stairs and mall are animated. They still look insanely good though. The only part where I feel it's somewhat obvious is when he first approaches the hole at 1:53 But if the outside is also animated, that would be crazy.
@@Umbra_Nocturnus yeah i agree, the branches on the ground look flat and kinda look like really well done textures, but when he peeps into the hole and sees the stairs you can see the anti aliasing and also the ambient occlusion on the floor
I know this is an interesting addition to this deep lore, but sit back and think: Random hole under a tree with stairs that just go down until you find a random wooden door that leads to a sad looking brick room that’s connected to an elaborate shopping area This is what minecraft looks IRL 😝
This entire video reminds me of one of my favorite lovecraftian short stories The Nameless City, the entire story was just a man going down stairs and finding out he doesnt belong and beings lived before him, and there is no payoff as the protagonist just runs away when the climax builds but it still is chilling.
Uh wrong? He keeps doing down and down and down into he heard the crocodile seals monsters get loader and loader and eventually gets to a threshold with howling wind and monster sounds and it's over
This reminded me of playing Thief where sometimes you have levels with tunnels descending deep underground. Mineshafts, crypts, tunnels leading to underground lairs of the Trickster. This epic stairs going straight down should be put into a level for the game. It's very fitting. In fact, they are still releasing new community maps for the game 25 years later. I hope one of those mappers sees this video.
I dont know why but during the whole video i was thinking of how the first Europeans felt exploring the inside of the pyramids, going up and down through those long stairs and halls, i would imagine they felt something similar to this dude, like if they were entering a diferent dimension or something like that especially considering all the mysticism behind the pyramids and all the astrological and religious meaning they have. Amazing.
You can really see how well the CGI has improved with this one and I'd love to see a behind the scenes! Only thing that set me off was the textures/material for the stairwell walls were mirrored (identical on both sides), but you would **really** have to be looking for it to actually notice. Absolutely love this video and concept!

@@nazthesilly I think the whole damn beginning is cgi as well. His shadow looks just a tiny bit weird with that slight wobble, the way the grass moves too uniformly.

Amazing.
Yeah, no…. The Europeans were aware the pyramids existed. This is different.
It must've been wild when they found the pharaoh's hidden shopping mall at the top of the pyramid
You can really see how well the CGI has improved with this one and I'd love to see a behind the scenes! Only thing that set me off was the textures/material for the stairwell walls were mirrored (identical on both sides), but you would **really** have to be looking for it to actually notice. Absolutely love this video and concept!
loved the carpet. felt like you could almost see the little knots poking out. Texture for sure. Stairs were looking good, like you said the CGI has just improved over and over with Kane
only issue i saw was that the hole is a little off on its motion tracking and wobbles a little bit, great video though
@@nazthesilly I think the whole damn beginning is cgi as well. His shadow looks just a tiny bit weird with that slight wobble, the way the grass moves too uniformly. And when he reaches the big tree, the surrounding ground looks slightly flat (the sticks and rocks, as if it was just a bump mapped texture). I have NO IDEA
@@nazthesilly nah ok it's real. I focused on how the hole moves again and now i saw it clearly. I already thought at first viewing something looks off and after the second viewing i suddenly thought the whole thing was rendered
Only thing off is the fps of the motion tracking - feels too smooth compared to the rest of the footage
