The Time I was a Complete D-Bag in Middle School
During my middle school years, I was quite popular. I didn't know it at the time but I was. It was only as a conscious adult did I realize this. OR, I am full of crap. That might be true as well however, I am sticking with MY idea :p
It was during my seventh year and due to word of mouth, I found out that a girl liked me. Her name was Kendra and she was much taller than I was. That did not bother me at all. Her cousin Chanel called me up one night and asks me if I wanted to "go with" Kendra. I gave her the nonchalant "sure, why not" and it was on.
I spent the next few weeks talking to this girl on the phone as we did before cell phones and text messages became a thing. Remember kids, Uncle Curt grew up in the 70s-90s. Anyway, I wasn't really sure how I felt about her. There were things that bothered me about her. Kendra was sweet, but my goodness did she just BATHE in an obnoxious perfume. I think it was called Electric Youth by Debbie Gibson. It smelled like shit, guys. All the girls were wearing it. All the girls smelled like ass. It was gross.
When we would go out, my nose just burned the whole time. Another thing is that she was just so boring. Like, she didn't make me laugh. Half of the time I spent on the phone with her was with Chanel who DID make laugh. I just wasn't really into Kendra. She was pretty but that wasn't enough for me. Even at that age, I knew that I wanted someone as weird as I am.
On a fateful Friday night soon after, I met up with my cousin, some of his friends and some of their female friends at Fun Factory. Fun Factory was a large video game center. That's what we did. That's how we socialized back then. We went to the mall, to the game centers and to high school football games. Anyway, I did not know these girls but all of them were kinda cute. I didn't dwell too much into that, though. I had a woman! *beats chest*. The night ended and I went home. Well, my mom picked me up.
Days went by then my cousin called me up and told me that "Tiffany" liked me and wanted to "Check me out". I was flabbergasted. Tiffany was the alpha female of her group. She was weird, funny and very pretty. But again, I had a girlfriend.
The next day at school, there was a dance. It was one of those dances were everyone is extremely awkward and shy until the weirdoes decided it was time to let loose and be weird. I however, decided to walk outside and hang out by the monkey bars with the other derelict children. Chanel came outside to tell me that Kendra was looking for me and wanted to dance. I immediately said "No thanks, tell her I'm dumping her".
Welp. Chanel stormed off and told her. A few minutes later, I saw Kendra burst out of the cafeteria where the dance was being held and sat down on the sidewalk crying. I went over to console her like an absolute knob and told her that I was sorry and that I was going out with someone else. I even patted her on her head like she was a dog. Sheesh! I am shaking my head as I type this.
That night I called Tiffany and then we became a thing :p

Triumph owner here. Love Monta’s comfortable bracelet and level of finishing. Be sure to check out the used prices! They hold up pretty well thanks to all that brushing.
What are your thoughts on the clasp? I’ve seen a lot of people complain that it’s way too long and protrudes out from the underside of your wrist. Just curious if this is a prevalent issue.
"Sparkly like unicorn farts" is an underused an extremely informative term. So is the idea of taking the watch "into Costco." Being honest here (ok, less honest about the unicorn farts term); I can easily imagine this scenario, and it makes it easier for me to want this watch even more than I already did.
The dial is pretty big, though. Reminds me of the Grand Seiko Elegance line, on which the thin-ness and small diameter get lost somewhat because it's practically all dial and extremely thin bezels.
I used to go into Costco and do wrist rolls in the TV section for these videos lol. I no longer have a membership there so that's out. Thanks, Marco!

The blue version is killer. Monta is a great watch collectors secret. Well worth the buck.
Yes, in Poland it is just called Xxx Sausage, where Xxx is the type of sausage you want as there are dozens of them depending on process, spices, smoking, etc. And no, if you go to a supermarket in the US and see Hillshire Polish Sausage made of turkey, chicken, and other assorted meat-like substances, it is most emphatically NOT a Polish Sausage and could get you flogged in Poland (okay, I may be exaggerating, but just a little). Polish sausage is made of pork, with occasional addition of beef (and rarely beef by itself). Chicken and turkey _might_ be used in franks (parówki), but not in sausage, as that would be an abomination.

I hate perfume as well, there was a girl named Jennifer in high school who was really cute and friends with my friend Courtney and she liked me but she wore so much perfume it made my eyes water. She wore that shit all the way through high school and I guess no one told her how rank it was! We hung out a lot at two roller rinks in the middle school days but the mall & arcades were also big hangouts until I got my license.
All yes the rinks. We had one until a church bought and converted it. Was a sad day. I couldn't get my license until I was 18 so I had to rely on my lucky friends :p Ahh the wonder years.

This watch gives me Stowa Flight watch vibes but more refined if that makes sense. Go with the blue not silver! If you are liquidating watches while we're on the Steinhart that OVM MK1 of yours with the tan dial is awesome and I'm interested lol. Back on the middle school vibe, I learned back then one horny boy is enough to explode a three girl life long friendship at that point. Sorry to Tina, Anna, and Madison for that, but not sorry lol. Ok gonna take a nap and head out to a brewery later in the afternoon for some choice seltzers, good God low carb is tough.

I had a Monta Triumph and loved it. However, the bracelet clasp is just too sodding long for small wrists, so I sold it.
Kurt, I'd advise you to wear the watch a bit more and make sure that the long clasp doesn't bother you, before you possibly make an expensive mistake.
What size is your wrist?
I have a 6.5in wrist and have seriously considered purchasing the Noble but the elongated clasp has always deterred me bc a lot of ppl say it protrudes out from the underside of your wrist.

I’m not sure if the price is right. I could get a Ball Enterprise which seems comparable for under 1k from an AD. But I’ve never handled a Monta so not sure.

Must say that is a tidy looking piece that does suit your wrist even though it does look bigger than its said dimensions , still.. nice package but not my comfort zone price wise .

I've recently satisfied my need for super shiny things with a Christopher Ward C63. This Monta just seems way overpriced in comparison.
The story in the description is sweet. It somehow made me miss those times even though I was on the other end of the popularity spectrum.

Huge fan of CW and Monta, and own watches from each of them. CW’s brand is largely about maximum value for money, and they might offer the best among Swiss watches. Monta is targeting a higher price point and putting in more expensive components and finishing - finer brushing, rhodium plated hands & markers, chamfered fully articulating bracelet links, higher-grade versions of movements, tighter quality control.
A CW definitely offers better “bang for buck,” but the Monta is executed to a higher level. Both are very high quality and I couldn’t let go of either in my collection.
I just received my Monta Noble today. I was eager to open it and try it on, but then I was a bit disappointed. The watch is pretty small and light and has a cheap feel about it. The band is very flimsy and feels cheap and the case itself is so so, but definitely doesn't warrant all the hype. Over all its probably on par with your average run of the mill everyday watch you can buy at one of those kiosks in the middle of the mall. Overall it's nothing special and definitely not worth the cost.
So, did you return it to Monta?
Your average run of the mill fashion watch? What? That’s certainly one of the most out there comment I’ve seen in a while. The bracelet/case is of fantastic quality on this watch. And for a 38.5 case, it certainly doesn’t feel small. It wears rather large. Not sure what you were expecting.
