When you look back at his time at Liverpool, it’s easy to say that Jurgen Klopp despite being an elite manager “won 1 premier league title in 9 years” and while history does count and his lack of league titles doesn’t help his legacy, since when do we judge managers solely off of trophies. Guys like Jurgen Klopp and Diego Simeone you really don’t want to judge their ability as a manager off of what they won, because football goes beyond just winning trophies.
Klopp’s impact at Liverpool is unprecedented. Even though they should’ve won more, he’s exceeded expectations. This is a guy who transformed a mediocre team back into an elite team in a span of 8 years. Remember he took over, Liverpool weren’t in a great situation as their squad was very weak especially after losing 2 of their best players in a span of a year in Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard. In 2015, if anyone told you that they would win the premier league and a champions league title in a span of 5 years, no one would believe you and that’s what happened to them. In back to back seasons, Liverpool won the champions league and then the premier league for the first time in over 3 decades that was their first ever premier league title and that was a significant moment fit them. Even though they were on a fraction of a budget, they were giving Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City team a run for their money and were regularly challenging them for the title and being a contender in almost every competition. We live in a world where Manchester City would have won 6 league titles in 6 years and that would’ve happened without Liverpool. They lost the league title twice to City even though they had 90+ points. In the champions league, Real Madrid were a thorn in their side as they beat them in 2 different UCL finals. They’ve managed to bounce back from inconsistent seasons and be in the hunt to win a quadruple and while in both the 2021-22 and 2023-24 seasons didn’t end very well for them in terms of silverware, none of this happens without Klopp. The guy is a terrific manager and assuming Liverpool decline once he leaves, I think he’ll be appreciated a lot more in the next couple of years because you’re gonna hear many people call him a failure and discredit his time at Liverpool down to him winning 1 league title in 9 years and on paper it’s not enough, but as I’ve said many times, since when do we judge a manager by the amount of trophies they’ve won and many Liverpool fans should be happy with what Klopp has done with them.

@@kelvinsekwati4016 Liverpool had several years under Shankly when they didn't win the league (or anything else). No one denies Shankly's status as a legend. Kenny's team won nothing in the season 86 / 87 and should have won the double in both 88 and 89. He could have won more, but he's a legend. This isn't complex.
Take the Klopp period as a whole and compare it to any equivalent length of time since 1990 - nothing is even close to being as good. It's often missed that one of his biggest achievements was the one thing that none of his predecessors since Kenney (1st time) managed - he put together consecutive successful seasons. Under Evans, Houlier, Rafa and Rodgers we had seasons where we got close to the league title only to be miles away the following year. Klopp got within 1 point of City in 2018/19 (and won the UCL, making it a successful season by anyone's standards) and beat the trend by crushing City the following year.

Klopp's tenure was marred when Firmino, Fabhino and Mane left. Those three players, especially Mane and Firmino had such footballing intelligence that helped Liverpool overachieve. Since they left or their input declined, Liverpool press has never been the same. The leadership of Henderson is terribly missed. For me, a big Mane fan, I am willing to credit Bobby as the glue that held everything together. He's touch, hold up play, nous, bonhomie, industry, grit & unselfishness were the reason Liverpool pushed City. When he and Mane left Robbo and Trent have never been the same. They no longer push up or lead the league in assists. Fabhinho was also vital in this. The same will happen when Bernando Silva exits City.
I think Klopp has left a great base for the next couch but there are very little players who are stars. Futhermore, he has overworked his players with his stubborness of formation and perpetual pressing. He simply can't keep up with the well-financed, albeit illegally, ManCity. I think Liverpool will have to transition into less possession and intergrate Klopp's base with some transitional elements more hospitable to Nunez and the other forwards.
As an Arsenal fan Klopp's teams were what i loathed and even last year, they marred our seasons with your late-season intensity. Ironically, I think Emery ought to have assumed the Liverpool coaching position given his tactical nous and cleverness.

Arsenal’s “Invincible’s” won 90 points by comparison and runners up Chelsea were 2nd on 79 points that season. Reactionary types will try to downplay him and stir the pot but Klopp is an absolute legend. They were in the shadows of Utd all those years. For this guy to come to Liverpool at a when you have to contend with Pep and the riches of City, the only team who did that for most part was Liverpool with Klopp at the helm.

@@delby66 Shankly kinds of needs a separate place all his own, but I'd argue that Klopp got as close as is possible in the modern game to doing what Shankly did. With the way money works in our game, the likes of Liverpool aren't going to get relegated anymore - where we were when Klopp came in was about as low as they're ever likely to be.

This is such a disrespect to the other Liverpool grates.
Bob Paisley spent 44 years at Liverpool as a player, assistant manager, manager, etc. In the 9 years he managed Liverpool He won 3 UCLs, 6 league titles as well as 11 other trophies.
Bill Shankly took Liverpool from the Championship and proceeded to win promotion and win 3 league titles as well as a bunch of other trophies. He spent 25 years at the club.
Kenny Dalglish played for Liverpool during the 1977-1990 period. In 13 years as a player he won 6 league titles, 3 UCLs as well as 12 other trophies. He then became Liverpool manager TWICE and won 3 more league titles and 8 other trophies.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Klopp doesn`t come close to these guys in ANY manner.
He came to Liverpool built a good team and had some success I`ll give him that. He`s also a good manager I`ll give him that also. However, he in my opinion underperformed in terms of what should be expected from a club like Liverpool. He should have won more big trophies and he should have stayed longer. In a club like Real Madrid, Bayern Munchen, Barcelona or even current Man Utd he would have been fired long ago.

Klopp is a Liverpool great. Pep is a Premier League great. Big difference. Five Prem titles in seven years plus the Treble vs one Prem title and a Champion's League. Paisley is still the greatest though without any bias

Ask yourself how many managers did Liverpool have that won both the Premier League and the Champions League?
Klopp is a pretty unlucky guy when it comes to Premier Leagues and Champions League finals. In his first three seasons I believe Liverpool was far from winning the league and then they won one, but also the Man City effect kicked in fully. If you only look at the Premier League I believe this Man City side has to be the strongest of all time.
If you look at the Champions League, they were pretty much always eliminated by Real Madrid but so were a lot of other great teams lately.
He is among very few managers that reached 4 Champions League finals, unfortunately he lost 3 of them and while I imagine it can be pretty painful for him, that does not take aways from his greatness.

Klopp is a Liverpool great but not an EPL great nine seasons with one title & 1 ucl. Jose went against Sir Alex & won two consecutive titles, left elp & came back won another. On matters European football what Jose did with porto & inter is only compareble to Ferguson.
I'd even say Tuchel could have had a better career with as much time as klopp
