I am 80 years 'vintage' and I've NEVER made Swiss Steaks! But after this video, which I loved, you can bet it is on my grocery list. Thank you. I really will make this. Yeah! I think my grandchildren will love this and actually, I'll have them help me make it on their next "Camp Grams Day"! You are appreciated.
Oh my goodness Kevin, my mother used to make this all the time. I remember waking up and hearing pounding down in the kitchen. Which was underneath my bedroom because my father would be tenderizing the meat.. This brings back wonderful memories for me and i'm so appreciative for this video.🥰👍
My family had Swiss steak with onion gravy and mashed potatoes with ice tea. Once a month. Usually after church on Sunday 😊 Homemade biscuits and vegetables from our garden.
For fun, I found my Mom's handwritten recipe card for Swiss Steak. She used short cuts of 2 cans "stewed tomatoes" and 2 cups of water with a beef bouillon cube dissolved. She notes that baked potato is her side dish of choice with butter, sour cream and chives. Apple or cherry crisp for dessert. I'm thinking your recipe has more fresh flavor from the veggies & broth. Look forward to trying it.
... oh, this is truly hearty for the days of being indoors by the woodfire side ... here on the RainCoast of Western Canada, where the Coastal Mountains hug the shoreline & the tops thereof are often snowbound until well into Spring ... even a Spring day can be a bit chilly & a more substantial meal is called for ... thanks for the clarity on the technique called 'Swiss' ... well, I can't wait to add this to my morning shopping list ... I will go 'Swiss' this evening ...oh, I love your 'kit-cat' exploring in the snow ... I think it's a healthy thing to have our pets have a little outdoor time year 'round ...
Love Swiss steak, I am 74 years old, my aunt added peas in the last half hour of cooking back in the 50’s I think yours will be delicious but I will add the peas! Thank you for your recipe…we never used beef broth just used lots of tomatoes and let cook down, maybe because we had so many tomatoes from the garden to use! Think your will be awesome! PS never knew why it was called Swiss steak! lol! Thank you again!
Enjoyed seeing the snow on this last day of July in a very humid Brooklyn. I can’t wait till it gets a little cooler to make this meal. It was a favorite of mine as a young person. Thanks!
Hi Kevin, I love your videos. As a child we grew up with Swiss Steak, my mom served it with mashed potatoes, and it was a delicious winter dish in our home. I'd like to suggest for your Swiss Steak recipe. Make sure to add that beautiful jus from the plate the steaks were on, there's a lot of flavor to give depth to your dish. I watched your cutting board move around on the counter. Here's a quick tip, take a paper towel or tea towel, dampen it and place that under the cutting board. This gives the cutting board stability, which can sometimes create a hazard when your cutting and the board is moving around. Thanks for all your positivity and delicious food.
I'm watching this the end of July 2023! Whew, its hot in Virginia. Love watching the snow. I'm going to save your recipe for a crisp autumn or a blustery cold winter day. Looks yummy.
Thanks for the classic retro recipe! Reminds of the Swiss Steak my Mom made on cold Minnesota weeknights for dinner. A great way to enjoy tender, flavorful beef on a budget.
Made this with gravy sauce instead of tomato. But followed your dredging and beef broth idea. Finished it in my Dutch oven just like you said at 350. It was delicious!! Served it with mash potatoes and your recipe for fluffy handmade dinner rolls. Everything came out perfect!!! Thank you. Love your recipes, it's easy to find and print out.
Love this. Why? Relatable, as I live in Rochester NY ,loved the picture of the snow. Weather affects tastebuds in the palate and mind. Grew up with Swiss steak in Mom's rotation, and it was good. This is a whole new level. Wish she were here for me to make it for her. Something that is so relatable and so well explained goes into my let's try it box. I'lll get back to you this winter😀
Looks delicious, Kevin. Want you to know, yesterday I made your beef tips with veggies over mashed potatoes and rice pudding recipes for my husband's Birthday. A very big hit with all who partook! (I did add the golden raisins to the pudding plus macerated strawberries on top. mmm!) 😄
I just made this today since I had not made beef in quite some time and completely forgot to add the diced tomatoes. It still came out pretty good. Thank you so much for that recipe. So simple yet so delicious.
Wow as usual 👨🍳 Looks fabulous and now I am totally starving I have to get up and make myself some lunch 😂🥂😋 Thanks for another great recipe Kevin have a great Sunday see you on the next one.
That looks marvellous Kevin! I like to make Swiss steak in the instant pot and add some smak dab honey Dijon mustard from Manitoba Canada. Take good care!
I Was Going Too Say Would Luv A Peep Out The Front Door Too See The Snow Falling😊As I Live Kinda Mid-State NC & We Never Get “Nothing”😢The Dinner Looks Delicious😊NC❤
Hi Kevin, I'm going to give this a try! I have a freezer full of elk and I think this recipe will work nicely for the elk. P.S. I've been baking bread using your recipe...having a lot of fun. We might get some snow tomorrow in Utah. You kids take care.
Thank you! I have a bunch of cube steak in the freezer and I didn't know what to do with it. I will give this a try! Do you have any other recipes? I heard you could make chicken fry steak with it too, but I haven't try it yet.
Looks delicious thank you for sharing. Will definitely give this a try. Any suggestions for substituting the green pepper? Love watching you; so glad that snow storm is now history.

For a meal like that, you can get somebody to shovel your snow. Is Mr. Fox offering? I will make that stake for the first time. Looks delicious.

Hi Patti - Just about any vegetable or combination of vegetables would work here. Enjoy!
Maybe add chopped carrots and or potatoes.
❤❤❤
Look at kitty cat walking in the snow in the last scene of the video.
Thank you for sharing this recipe. I can't wait to try it. There seems to be a cat out in your garden. Is that one of yours?
It is a feral cat. I didn't notice it until I watched the video!
What's one more cat?
Hi Kevin
I buy kosher meat can I use a slice of shoulder steak for this meal
Kosher meat markets usually offer (kosher) beef cube steak. I'm not sure if shoulder steak would work for this preparation.
reflection in micro..... snow
You have keen eyes, Bea Tran! (I did not notice the reflected snow until I loaded the video:)
Yuuuuuummmmyyyy
