    Here is another cool idea regarding the hardware possibilities. Today we learned that the switch successor will probably have a large 8 inch display. Imagine if they designed the Dock in a way that doesn't cover up the switches screen while it's in there. People who have their docks besides their TV/Monitor could have an option to display HUD Elements, a Minimap or whatever on the devices screen, allowing the actual game to show off in all it's beauty with minimal HUD elements.
    EDIT: not only that, but you could have have some sort of always-on functionality. Image walking into your living room and seeing at a glance all the friends that are online right now on the docked switch screen.

    I think Mario Kart might be several months or even a year off. Not because it isn't done, but because they want to sit on the 8D DLC for just a little longer.

      Probably can't be TOO cutting-edge since MP4 will likely be cross-gen. Also, it's unrealistic to expect MP4 to go from Metroid's current sales peak of 3 million to 10+ million, which the Switch 2 would need to help sell systems. Not to mention that Japan doesn't really care about Metroid, so it'd be a huge risk to bet on a franchise that's niche over there.

    A more capable dock that holds data and can also act as a Wii U is a really neat idea. Imagine connecting multiple switches like Nintendo had previously considered. Maybe even allow old switches to act as controllers for some of the multiple gamepad-like experiences. This is both gimmicky and also Nintendo as all get out which is why that's plausible.

    As someone who never uses handheld, I was disappointed when they announced the Switch lite and even more when they announced the Oled version, because I would gain nothing as a player from them.

    In no way were Odyssey or TotK held back by the hardware. Nintendo do a great job of designing games well for the hardware they’re on. People are already complaining about PS5 games not being 4K/60fps, it doesn’t mean those games aren’t reaching their potential. A better example on Switch would have been something like Bayonetta 3.

    • @nettalie4435
      @nettalie4435 7 месяцев назад +2

      Those kinds of arguements always seemed weird to me because it for the most part only really holds true for 3rd parties that were not developed primarily for switch.
      The closest this really gets would be botw and tokt having frame drops on rare occasions (on release) and running at 30 fps, but both of these things arent nearly as bad as theyre made out to be and arent ineherently hardware issues. Especially the 30 fps cap imo since it reinforces that anime style the games are going for, but maybe thats just my inner animation nerd speaking.
      Outside of that its really just 3rd parties that are affected, and I'd actually partially chalk that up to what I call "optimization knowledge tax". Which in short just means a lot of bigger developers are ironically "forgetting" how to optimize well or not learning proper optimization because hardware specs are getting so advanced that they effectively don't really need to if they develop for say, the PS5.

    Prime 4 is ABSOLUTELY being held for launch of the next system. BOTW is a great game on its on, but its exposure was increased exponentially by being available at launch for Switch. Metroid could use that same bump off the Switch 2 and make it a much more popular franchise.

    • @Neoxon619
      @Neoxon619 7 месяцев назад +3

      The problems are that...
      1. Metroid is MUCH farther from 10 million than Zelda was prior to BotW. So at best, MP4 could sell 4-5 million units as a launch (window) title for the Switch 2.
      2. Metroid is pretty damn niche in Japan, so making MP4 your main launch title risks alienating Nintendo's domestic market.

    The Switch 2 won't be as capable as an Xbox Series S. The technology that is rumoured to be in the Switch comes from around the same time as PS5/Xbox Series, and it is limited in power available when compared to the consoles plugged into the wall.
    It will be comparable to the Steam Deck probably, with more efficiency because of the rumoured lower manufacturing node, but I assume it'll be used for improved battery life rather than overclocking the SoC further.

  • @nettalie4435
    @nettalie4435 7 месяцев назад +1

    I think one approach they could go for regarding the single joycon multiplayer issue would be to make the wriststrap thingies more of a "sleeve" so to speak that you sorta slot the joycon into. Think similarly to the circle pad pro accessory the 3ds had, except there's one for each joycon.
    This way you'd not only be able to provide things like a second analog stick for multiplayer more elegantly, you would also make the joycon in general a bit better to use for people with bigger hands without bulking up the size of the joycon themselves.
    Another idea: Since "Swiss army knife joycon" and "modular joycon" on their own have a bunch of problems, if we combine these ideas with my wriststrap thingie idea both concepts could actually make for something pretty interesting as a whole.
    Alright so bear with me this is gonna take some explaining.
    We take the base concept of the "stick sleeves" as i'll call them, but that second analog stick is sort of tucked away inside. You slide open the "lid" covering it, and push it up out of the compartment from below, clicking it firmly into place. From there you can use it as a regular old analog, and should you no longer need it, you just push a little button from below the now elevated stick to unlock it, and it can slide back inside the compartment. This way the stick wouldn't be in the way for solo play, and there arent a bunch of tiny pieces youd have to carry with you.
    If you wanna go a step further in making things a bit more convenient in terms of how many individual things you carry around, you could adjust that pseudo pro controller grip thing to hold both joycon regardless of whether or not the "stick sleeves" are attached, effectively turning it into a single controller unit, that can be taken apart into smaller controllers.
    So if you wanna play a game with someone on the go you just take out both joycon for the game, and then put everything back together afterwards.

      There's going to be a ton of components into the controller itself just so it doesn't end up jammed or the plastic snaps and completely breaks both the attached grips, modules, etc. If they end up going down this route, Nintendo's going to have to do a ton of experimenting to get it just right. Otherwise, they should just package the console with four different bundles. One controller, One console, and One free game, Two controllers, one console, one free game, Three controllers, one console, two free games, and four controller, two console, and two free games included in the boxes (each separately prices and such). This way for those who buy the four controller bundle has the two switch 2 consoles, cables (a 10 foot HDMI cord), a 10 foot power cord (USB Powered/Two Prong universal power cord), Four controllers (With the Joycons attached to the console as two extra controllers), and two free games to play on your two new consoles (which the two games can be the two same copies, all for under $300.00 and such, while the one controller, one console, one free game can be priced near $200.00 at best).

    A hypothetical Xenoblade Warriors could fit the same niche that Fire Emblem Warriors did in the first year of the Switch's lifespan.
    The best part is due to how Xenoblade's story is it can be directly connected to most recent game like last few Nintendo Warriors games (Age of Calamity and Three Hopes) have been and still be a crossover with all of the mainline games like how the earlier Nintendo Warriors games (the original Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors) where because Xenoblade 3 itself is already a canonical sequel to both Xenoblade 1 and 2 and already has a few returning characters from those games in it. They can bring even more characters back to fill out the roster while still primarily focusing on the setting of Xenoblade 3. It would be the best of both worlds with how Nintendo does their Warriors games, the only downside is that sadly Xenoblade X most likely won't be included if that's the case.

    I would love to see Nintendo get rid of the os-level auto-recalibration that is applied to gyro as it tends to cause drift then prevents it because it considers subtle adjustments you make as drift causing the camera to recenter. Maybe also a secondary gyroscope to counterbalance any potential drift by having a second reference point akin to the alpakka controller.

    before watching the video i wanted to comment my speculation first:
    i think Switch 2 will be a dual screen hybrid console, and that it will have at least a 16 year plan for Nintendo. with the goal that it will be able to play the entire company's video game library from every generation both portable and home console. the top screen can be docked and the bottom screen can be utilized to work with 3DS/WiiU games, but also developers have the option for dual screen mode with new games but isn't necessary.

    As someone else said, launching with a remake or remaster was perfectly fine for Switch with Mario Kart Deluxe being a month after release or so. I think Xenoblade X would be a great game to bring over given how little it was played on Wii U and how visually noteworthy it was even back then. Imagine how it could look with a Xenoblade 1 style remastering with greater visuals and power than the Switch could produce!

    Trying to think of ways to explain dlss to people who don't have hardware knowledge because it's been butchered everywhere I look.
    Dlss is not a secret sauce. It takes a massive amount of power to perform, and that power comes from specially dedicated hardware only modern Nvidia gpu's have.
    When you turn on dlss, it is run on a different set of processors from your gpu's main processors, or shaders, called tensor cores.
    That's a good streamlined way to think of it. Modern Nvidia gpu's are composed of 3 main processor parts.
    1. Main shaders. This is the ONLY part the ps4 gpu, and well ps5 and Xbone and series gpu's have. Traditionally renders 3d graphics.
    2. Ray Trace cores. This "second GPU" has a performance that is twice as high as the main shaders on ampere. They all have the same parts ratio, so no matter how big or small the rtx ampere gpu, it's always 2x the main shaders. These are specialized processors that ONLY handle calculations related to ray tracing. Bvh generation, bvh traversal, triangle ray intersect and interpolation. Denoising is not handled here.
    3. Tensor cores. This "Third GPU" handles several tasks, though I'll only talk about two. Mixed precision support. Ampere Tensor cores can handle fp16, int8, and int4 data types, so the main shaders don't have to waste fp32 perfomance on operations that don't need full precision. Ps4 can't do it at all, and rdna (ps5/series) has to burn a fp32 register to get 2 fp16 ops.
    Then there is the tensor cores namesake, tensor operations. Tensor cores can hardware accelerate tensor ops up to 32x what the main shaders can do them at. For FP16, it's 8x, so a 3 tflop docked switch, would have 24 sparse tensor tflops fp16 for ML compute on trained ai models. This is where the power to perform dlss comes from.

    i think Nintendo just doesnt want to deal with voice chat, at least natively on the system, why? just open a CoD lobby and hear all the civilized conversations that happen on a regular basis.
    Actually i think that Nintendo will implement a foldeable second screen, then they will be able to remaster/remake tons of DS/3DS titles, and improve the portable mode further, then you fold the second screen to play docked.
    if nintendo implements DLSS, its going to be at best the 3.0 version, Nintendo is not gonna utilize a new generation of Nvidia GPUs cause they would increase the cost of the console too much, and i think Nintendo is gonna aim at 300 dollars, 350 tops.

Different from a hobbyist who can tweak a steam deck. This thing could be at the beach or pool. It could be in a house with tile flooring. It could go on traveling trips like flights. Wireless docking for dual-screen gaming in reverse compared to the Wii U doesn't necessarily have to be too 'cumbersome.' The only issue I can see is when you're running low on power on the main console tablet unit.
    ---
    Given how Nintendo's said and mostly demonstrated that they typically don't end up using concepts that they patent, particularly when that patent has seen release before a product (or game) release, I would be (quite pleasantly surprised if they returned to the (very cool) idea of a Supplemental Computing Device in the Switch 2's dock instead of just having the console hike its processor clock speed when on wall power. We'll have to wait and see, I guess?
    ---
    You know what _other_ Nintendo series hasn't had an entry since the GameCube? 1080°. (Honestly, the two are kind of siblings in a way, both being seasonal sports/racing titles. There's even been character crossover before.)
    ---
    …Pokémon is still dead to me until Game Freak fixes the Exp. Share.
    ---
    Would gravitometers help to prevent motion control sensor drift in the Swotch 2's Joy-Cons? I'd assume so, at least some.
    ---
    I've always thought that _Mario vs. Donkey Kong_ should have walked for a graphical update until NSO game releases could have them as toggleable modes while still keeping the original graphics intact for the other mode. It didn't need a new release. I'm just going to stick with the 3DS Ambassador Program GBA Virtual Console release of the game.

But than I pitched that it should be able to access cloud-based titles when the handheld is away. We had pretty unanimous agreement about that.
    But I want to go one step further in regards to Second Screen. They need to revive the asymmetrical gameplay gameplay of the Wii U, but with multiple handhelds able to link to a single dock, including Lite units. This would be an incredible way to move Nintendo forward.
