Just played F-Zero 99 and this game is hilarious. The first minute of the race is just people flying around everywhere, bumping into each other, some people hit the walls and explode. It is chaotic and so much fun. I think this will be the next big "thing"

True but I can kinda understand why some were not as into it. There were 3 Mario game remakes and no word on Prime Echoes or 4 and effectively if it's not specifically Mario or his side-cast your into there wouldn't much too take from it. Legitimately Unicorn Overload was probably the best thing they showed IMO.

I think, considering this is probably the final line up before the next console, I'm actually a little relieved that the direct wasn't that crazy. I'd rather them be focusing right now on the next console for a solid launch line-up (provided it launches holiday 2024) then splitting their resources with this console. I think a reprioritisation at the end of the Wii U's lifecycle really helped out the switch at launch, and the lack of building up a solid launch line-up at the end of the Wii's lifecycle really hampered the Wii U's launch in a way that it never recovered from. The fact we are getting an original, and kinda interesting game with Princess Peach approximately 6-9 months before launch as the switch's swansong, a much requested remake with Paper Mario and some unexpected surprises with Another Code, Mario vs DK and F-Zero 99 actually does seem to be giving some freedom to port/make some interesting experiments which hopefully people can even try on the next console, provided there is backwards compatibility. I'd imagine, or at least hope, a new Mario Kart, 3D Mario or Splatoon 4 and Metroid Prime 4 alongside something experimental like ARMs or Nintendo Land are gonna be our launch line-up for the first 6 months (With Metroid being treated like breath of the wild, appearing on both consoles).

16:09 I don't know if I'd agree on "better", aside from the whole emotion mechanic, Super Princess Peach was a typical 2D Mario game from what I can tell. Peach basically did exactly what Mario did, with a unique spin that (at the time) seemed right for her character.

The one thing that I think most people haven't discussed is how significant the Tomb Raider remasters are to the fanbase. A lot of people felt alienated by the reboot trilogy, so being able to play that original trilogy on modern platforms as intended or with the new visuals is a big deal. Especially since they come with all the DLCs that were hard to come by.
This, Another Code, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Thousand Year Door, Horizon Chase 2, F-Zero 99, and 4 (not 2 as expected) characters to end the Booster Course Pass makes this an 8/10 Direct minimum. Not to mention more info on PP Showtime, SM RPG and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD

You have to keep in mind how old the Switch is, and the impending announcement of new hardware makes BIG brand new megaton reveals quite unlikely.

They may have gone remake-heavy, but they are supporting this system well longer than so many commentators expected them to.

This is just like the Switch pro rumours. People just making an incredibly obvious guess and trying to cash in on the idea that they might be right. If you guess that Nintendo are going to reveal a new console every few months or so, you will be right eventually.

...That unfortunately makes two consecutive directs that leave me kind of deflated. It's so much Mario and so many remakes that I don't really care enough about. Mario just doesn't really excite me right now, which ultimately leaves precious little to see today.
Side Order does look great, but it is more than half a year away still and we have known about it for a long time now. Unicorn Overlord and Eiyuden Chronicle look like things I might perhaps be interested in, and I'll consider Wargroove 2. I enjoyed the first game. That's about it.
F-Zero 99 might be the most exciting announcement here. I can see myself playing this a fair bit over the coming year.
But nothing that really thrilled me, I'm sad to say. Feeling a bit of a lull.

For what this is (more than likely the last end to end switch direct. This was good and showed they are willing to bring back both old classics and lesser known collections. My guess is that we may get a direct mini in January with a tease of the new console as a show ender with a save the date screen for a full console and lineup reveal sometime in spring.
But overall it's just great to see switch have a great swan song instead of a whimper like wii u.

The only thing I see them doing for the 2 slots for 4 characters is simply making Villager and Inkling 1 slot (to hide the 2 new characters coming) I'd put Funky and Peachette there. Then have Diddy and Pauline in the other side.

I will say with most confidence that the recent direct was another good one, but I do think the June Direct was better, mostly for the bigger surprise factors, such as Mario Wonder.
The best announcements were, Thousand Year Door remake, Mario VS Donkey Kong 1 remake, Princess Peach Showtime and F-Zero 99! Oh and that SpyxAnya game is cool as well.
Weakest announcements were the Nintendo Museum thing and oddly enough, Detective Pikachu 2's third trailer... the Museum could have honestly been its own separate video and was kinda indifferent to the third Detective Pikachu Returns trailer... all we got is that Pablo was returning and Luxray is a new assistant. Yawn. Oh and that Contra game looks rough.
New SaGa game looks cool, as is Eiuden Chronicles. New Vanillaware game looks like if Ogre Battle and Langrisser had a baby, Trombone Champ was another "nice to have this on Switch" kind of announcement, Contra remake looks kinda rough, despite it being by Wayforward...
Another Code recollection is looking great and it pleases the Nintendo historian in me to see some more niche Nintendo franchises getting some love. Wario Ware Move It has some of that wacky fun Smooth Moves has and I love it! Though I'm not too keen on Wario's new voice... sounded rough.
It was a solid direct, even if it was more remake focused.

Basically, everything that I'm interested in getting from this direct was stuff that we already knew about. The only cool things were F-Zero 99, Tomb Raider 3, and Another Code.
Paper Mario is neat but I already have the original and I don't see anything compelling me to get the remake.

Defending remakes because the originals are expensive is a bit weird... nothing prevents nintendo of doing nso ports, or event ports in a compilation. The fact that Nintendo has been terrible at making its games available beyond Mario, i dont think justifies it.

I agree that it wasn't the greatest direct, but at the same time. Sony and Microsoft have released like 3 new games in 3 years and they are full in their generation. The switch is absolutely at the end of it's lifecycle.

As someone who's not as huge a fan of Mario RPGs as most Nintendo fans my age seem to be, I do really think TTYD is the strongest one and deserves the remake and to be more reasonable to buy for people. But to me, there are just a few things holding it back from being a "must play" game (to me, only Super Paper Mario hits that, and if we're counting derivative games, Bug Fables does too), and I hope the remake subtly addresses them while leaving the rest of the game intact. Mainly, I'm talking about the backtracking segments that really slow the pacing to a crawl. The infamous General White section of Chapter 7 is honestly not _too_ big a deal, I just hope that they make it so you don't have to manually retravel the snow area so much, just open a shortcut at the end of it if you want to keep the joke of the wild goose chase. But Chapter 4... The path between Twilight Town and Creepy Steeple gets old _real_ fast. There are probably some other minor tweaks and QoL changes that could be made too. But if they change those while keeping the rest of the game intact, that would bump it up to the must-play status everyone else gives it.

This direct was pretty “eh, it’s alright” for me. It’s clear that the Switch is in its twilight years, and so are either winding down releases or saving them for the next console. And so as much as I wish we got a big new DK game alongside Mario Vs. DK or an F-Zero GX remaster alongside F-Zero 99, there was enough stuff here to at least keep me busy until the next direct. That and September directs tend to be the weakest ones in their respective year, since I can’t remember the last one that legitimately blew my mind since…2018? Maybe 2019?
But anyhoo, I 1000% can’t wait for the TTYD remake and can now finally play the game without either paying an arm and a leg or sailing the seven seas.

The thing for me about the TTYD remake is that I don't understand why this was announced right now. The Mario RPG remake isn't even out yet, so announcing a remake of another beloved mario roleplaying game feels just way too sudden. It probably isn't coming out until at least the summer next year, so I feel like it would have been way better to announce this in a February direct or something instead and not have them cannibalise each other as much...

It’s makes think that we won’t get the next gen system info until late summer for a presentation in late September and for a slated DECEMBER JANUARY release. With Metroid prime 4 launching alongside the system and also smaller games. The next Mario kart , 3d Mario game are very likely as well and also the long awaited 3d dk game. We could probably get sequels to like arms 2 and captain toad 2 and remasters like uprising and smash bros ultimate deluxe.
