Landscape Photography | Scouting In The Lake District

- Landscape Photography can be even more enjoyable when you spend the day with family. I went out to scout locations and take images in the Lake District with my son. Whilst he had a great time, he preferred to sit in the car listening to Harry Potter whilst I took photographs
Seathwaite and the Dunnerdale Valley is a beautiful part of the Western Lake District and I'd advise you to go there if you can.
As always thanks for watching

Lovely video Paul. Straight back showing people what an excellent photographer and great guy you are. Loved those tree shots captured under the clear blue skies.......a reminder that there’s never a ‘bad’ time to be out.
I hope you enjoyed making the video too.
Thanks Adam. Lovely comment. I enjoyed it very much
It is fantastic to see you on again. I so enjoy your videos
Phillip Kingsford very kind Phil . Thanks
excellent scouting vlog some belting images
Mark McNeill thanks Mark
Hi Paul. Glad you are back. Glad to see the man who is responsible for me getting back into photography after 30 years. Thank you!
Dennis Steul thanks Dennis . I hope you are enjoying your photography
As always great video, great pictures but more importantly great to see you back producing inspirational material.
Thanks Steve. Very kind.
What a treat! How many times did I check your channel, saw there was no new video and went away sad. It is good to see you back. I hope life has been good with you, and that you will share that humour of yours in more videos very soon.
Thanks Luke :). Nice comment
Great to have you back Paul, refreshing and entertaining video, always enjoy your style of vlog, keep them coming as they keep me going in my photography.
Thanks Peter
Certainly missed your work these past few months. Your insight is remarkable. Keep 'em coming.
Thanks Gordon
Great to see you back Paul....beautiful pics as always....have an awesome Christmas. Peace x
Cheers Gerard. You too buddy.
Thanks Paul welcome back images are great. The balance is not an issue after all that’s the shapes of nature
Thanks David.
Welcome back Paul looking forward to seeing lots more great to have you back
jon wright thank you John
Quality over quantity. As much as I miss regular content from you Paul it was great to see you so enthusiastic about the images in this video.
It was also great for me to see that the locations you shot were all a matter of a short distance from the car. As a photographer who is now disabled I am delighted to see these images as recently I have struggled to reconcile my lack of mobility and my love of landscape photography.
Thanks John. Struggling to get around can really impact on daily life but it doesn't mean you can't get out with the camera. That's why its such a wonderful pass time.
Good to have you back Paul
Thank you Nigel
so happy your back Paul. Great vid!
Very kind. Thanks Luke
Welcome back, I've missed your videos. Love the solitary tree.
thanks Brian
Good to see you back 😁👍
Colly Photography thank you
I'd say the images worked super well.
Randall Peck thanks Randall
Fandabidozy...... great to see you back Paul. Nice vlog and Wast Water is amazing 😉
Thanks Andy
Class
Thank you Derek
Nice work Paul, It's the
golden tree shot for me. Always refreshing to see images shot in the lakes that
breaks away from the standard lake shots. great work keep shooting,
Thanks Dean
When you've not looked at RUclips for a week and get welcomed to a new video from Paul!
James Jones ha thanks buddy
great to see you back
Thanks Steve
As always, really love watching your vlogs
The location looked amazing along with the shots you captured mate
Dont keep it so long until the next one.
Thanks Scott :)
Nice to see you back bud! You certainly have an eye to catch those scenes from the car when driving, especially in the lakes. Lovely captures of the silver birches, and great to see your lad out with you getting the camera bug! I’m looking forward to the north of England again!!
Thanks Alan :)
Cool! Nice shots!
Ray's Astrophotography thanks buddy
Hi Paul. Thank you for resurrecting the blue beehive !! Hope all's well with you and yours. Welcome back.
Thanks Tim
Great to see you back and with a great vlog to boot. You have captured some amazing images in some stunning light. Thanks for sharing Paul.
Thanks Douglas
Great to see you back Paul
Thank you Andy
Great to see you back Paul and you right, the joy of scouting can not be underestimated, especially if you have some company! Looking forward to seeing more great content from your adventures.
Thanks Keith
Great to see you back.
Thanks Alistair
good to see Paul love your work.
Thanks Bill
From one blind photographer to another, great images lad and good to hear you are back :) Ive got a nice bright pink Dame Edna chain for your specs - should be a fine talking point. I find scouting and scabbling about can be more fun than an actual shoot - nothing beats braking & pulling over to cause pandemonium for the driver behind I find.
Toby Jugg thanks buddy . I tend to agree with the scouting thing 👍😃
Scouting or not those were some great photos especially the single birch. Great to see a new video, Paul, thanks for sharing.
Thanks John. Very kind
Great to see you back Paul. Another great video with good suggestions for composition. Love the shots of the trees. Keep up the interesting videos.
Thanks Steven
the man with the hat is back on the roads again ... great news anyway! and the blue hat ... Jesus ... i'm falling down on my knees!!! great shots, Paul ... like the second and third most
Ha. Thanks Silvio. Wait to see what i have on my head on the next video :)
OK ... i'm thrilled and stay tuned !!! ;-D
Hell Yes.....a PGJ notification means the TV is muted..... the macbook volume is cranked up..... and the vlog is watched with a JD & Coke.....Good to see you back Paul and as always its great to see your images and hear your thoughts on your photography. Sympathise with the ending as being a wearer of glasses, I've been there when you go out with a pair of glasses and come back with a monocle.
Thanks mate very kind
Love your vlogs and work. Crafty move out on the winter,no flying teeth. Hope you are soon back again!
Thanks John :)
Great to see you back Paul, been looking forward for this vlog, always enjoy watching the casual video you produce. The Lakes is a beautiful place with loads of hidden gems, so glad we have it couple hours drive away, keep up the good work, looking forward to your next installment, Mark
Thanks Mark. Very kind
There is a certain style of your vlogging that I’ll never get tired of and still one of the best. You’re right about the imbalance at Wastwater. Looking forward to the real photo shoot 😬😬 Nice work Paul 👍
Thank James. Kind words. Hope you are well.
Paul G Johnson I’m fine and dandy. Cheers Paul
My first, funniest and favourite landscape vlogger. Great to see you back.....the photo's almost seem irrelevent. Like them anyway!
Swopping lenses on my face is more annoying than swopping them on my camera; one pair for seeing, one pair for looking at the LCD and then remembering to take them off to look through the viewfinder (diopter adjusted). Is the dustspot on my glasses, on the viewfinder, on the mirror, on the sensor, on the lens or on the ND grad, Sod it, I'll fix it in post!
Ha thanks Ian. Great comment
great to see you back paul, loved the images and you worked hard on the single tree, after your processing it looked amazing, as for the lakes I see what you mean about being unbalanced but it looked good to me. It was an honour to meet you at gary's do also
Thanks buddy. Honour was all mine
I’d saved this video for a Saturday night treat the week after, and what do you know 2 for the price of one! Great to see you back and looking well and the creative juices flowing. That part of Birker fell is superb. I stopped the car for a good hour after being at Wastwater. Superb shots albeit a reccy.
Thanks buddy. I'm glad you know the name of the Fell, I didn't :)
Paul G Johnson hehe that’s only because of been a few times this year, I’m terrible with places. I reckon there’s a full vlog to be recorded up on that fell. 😉
Nice to see you back paul.. its been to long mate, thanks for a great Vlog .
Thanks Martin
ho nice to see you back Paul, love my sunday morn watch with you, your work is has good as any other on here lad..
Kind words Graham. Thanks
Finally... Another vlog! Lovely to see you out and about once again. Love the tree images. Keep em coming 😁
Thanks John
Great to see you back Paul. Loved the barn picture. It's nice to see your content since you also show less ideal light and conditions - something all of us have to deal with, especially if you do this as an hobby and can't always chose your time and conditions for shooting
Thanks Mathias
Great job Paul. Good to see you back, I like your approach to things
Thanks Herb
Well that was an alert that I've been looking forward too. Great vlog Paul and great images. Hope all is well and glad to see you out and about again.
Thanks buddy
So glad to see you out scouting and shooting images. Hope everything is going well for you and the family.
Thanks Dave. Most of my time these days is spent in woods, All well here thank you.
Fantastic to see you back Paul, hopefully we will see you back with the nerds soon.
Thanks buddy
Great to see you back pal
Cheers buddy
The hat is back!! some nice shot there Paul, welcome back from your break.
Steven Musgrove Photography thanks Steven
Great to have you back Paul,
Thanks Steve
I love the single tree shot. I reckon your assessment of the lake image is right. The light on the left pulls the eye away from the rest of the scene. Still a nice location with different light, so a good scouting outcome!
Jerry Hutchinson thanks buddy . I should have incorporated the road on the left but my car was in the way
@@PaulGJohnsonphotography Ha ha! If you don't know it's there you don't miss it!
Good to see you back Paul and with some great images too.
Cheers buddy
The golden tree is something special , I really need to visit the lakes next year. Nice to see you back paul
Thanks buddy
I think you could be a professional one day........😆😆 Great vlog again Bud.
Colin Hothersall lol thanks Colin
Great to see you back Paul hope you and the family are all well
Thanks Martin. Hope you and yours are well.
Really pleased to see you back Paul. I have missed you mate. You are up to your usual standard just brilliant, even if you are still wearing the blue turban.
Ha thanks buddy, The blue turban gets worse on the next video.
Good to see you back.
Thanks Neal
Good to see you back Paul 👍. I know that glasses on glasses off dance all to well 🙄
Ha thanks Steve
Pauly G,
That handsome young man obviously got his looks from MOM!
Good to see your grinning face again, buddy. And, as always, I envy and appreciate your eye.
Thank-You,
Mike
Ha thanks Mike. He did :)
Welcome back Paul, I know everyone is saying that but it just shows how much your vlogs are missed. It was a pleasure to chat to you at the meet up recently being the first vlogger I ever followed on RUclips and now I've had the distinct honour to have had you comment on a couple of my shots on Garys Fb group. Hopefully now your back we can look forward to more of your excellent vlogs please ?
Thanks Derek . It was a pleasure to meet you too. I'll hopefully be posting a bit more regularly. My vlogs are bit of an acquired taste i think. A bit like marmite
Great to see you back mate, missed the humour and the great images of course 🤙🏻 p.s. what’s happening with the nerds? Dave...
Thanks Dave. Nerds is up in the air at the moment as Adam is busy
Paul G Johnson these full time guys eh lol 😂 hope to see you all back together soon mate and more from yourself of course 😜🤙🏻
As always most marvellous Vlog .. missed you Paul .. RUclips’s not been the same without you .. absolutely superb intimate Silver birch at 11:29 .. the lighting was beautiful 😊
Very kind comment. Thank you
The Hat is back! :-D Nice vlog Paul, no signs of rust from your long absence! I quite like the Wastwater shot although I have my eye on a composition further up using a stream as a line. Loved the tree and barn shots too :-)
Thanks Alan. Great comment as always
Some sound advice Paul as always and super images to boot, good to se a vlog from you it been an age. Hopefully they will be more regular. All the best
Thanks Mark. Hopefully
Morning Paul :-) thanx for the video nice to see you again. Love the tree shoot Paul nicely spotted. Not easy keeping the eyes on the roads when you drive is it...hehe :-) keep up the good work :-)
Thanks very much :)
I shot Saturday morning and they turned out pants it happens 🤣 nice to see you back paul 👍
craig wilson thanks buddy . It happens a lot to me 😂
Excellent video Paul.
Thank you Jim
Need some string for your specs me thinks. Nice work as always Paul, don't know how I managed to miss this one....must have been ill or something. Love your stuff mate😊
Thanks buddy
Fantastic to see you back on the Tube! Liked the images, maybe the lake shot would warrant a longer exposure? Not sure, I'm no expert!
Thanks buddy. I tried a 10 stop and didn't like the result. I didn't use a polariser which didn't help :D
@@PaulGJohnsonphotography Ah ok - probably to silver! 🤙😊
Ginger Photographer exactly
Christmas came early.....bacon buttie and a PGJ video
Thanks buddy. I'm on a serious health kick after reviewing my Lake District footage so no bacon butties for me. :)
Hey Paul, where you been? Your thought processes on light & composition are sound. Lovely images too. The illuminated tree was my favorite. Sorry about the glasses. :~(
Bill on the Hill... :~)
Thanks Bill. Busy with family i'm afraid
i visited wastwater earlier this year ..& took at shot from a similiar spot , although my image was pants it was an enjoyable ride out ...
GilbertTV it’s a lovely place isn’t it
Really good to see you!
I like the shape of that tree in the background at 1:30 & 1:55, something of a huge bonsai might be worth investigating when next you return there. I am fortunate my creeping "blindness" can be covered by cheap off the shelf reading glasses.
Thanks buddy. I usually wear cheap glasses when shooting but am considering som daily contacts for shooting
Very enjoyable. It seems to me that you are becoming even more sensitive to light/shade in composition. Great.
Thanks Mate
I’d like to join the others in welcoming you back. I always enjoy your vlogging. A nice set of intimate shots of the trees. Where’s the camper?
Thanks Derek . I sold the camper. Was too small for the family and terrible in wet and snow
Those tree shots are to die for Paul.
I was talking to a client of mine about wast water recently , and he was telling me that as the rock face goes below water along way down there are gnomes on the ledges attached to the rock face . He saw them while diving.
Thanks Dave. What an interesting story. I'll be looking out for them :)
That hat!😂 Nice to see you back.
Lol Thanks bud
As you know I don't do much scouting. We still need that day out matey
Paul Compton PDphotography deffo
Good to see you back, what about inc your son a bit more in the vlogs?
He could even be your vid camera man. Might get some steady shot vids ! Kidding
Hope all is well with the Johnson tribe.
MJ
Thanks Mark. He was in it a lot more but ended up on the cutting room floor :)
Hey Paul! Good seeing you mate!
Thanks Rick
great vid & pics too!Did i miss your dog?
The dogs were with mice wife and daughter enjoying a lie in :)
great to see you back mate been a while hope all is well great vlog anymore photo nerds pod casts in the pipe line to ?
Thanks buddy. Don't know about photo nerds at the minute
Paul great to see you back again. Your style is much missed and appreciate your delivery and explanations and your images inspire. My only question is brown or red sauce.
Thanks buddy. I'm sure i'll answer that one day :)
Good to see you back on the box. Shame you haven't lost the hat 😉
lol :)
Hi Paul, missed you buddy.
Thanks Mike
Advice re specs, get varifocals. Put them on when you get up, wear them continuously all day, take them off at bed time. Almost impossible to damage them.
Good advice. Its when i put them on my head to look through the viewfinder :)
I said that? (checks Instagram). Oh, look at that, I did.
I must be getting old. I didn't remember. 😂
Speaking of getting old... someone needs a string for their glasses. 😛
Ha thanks buddy. You'd did , I have a memory like an elephant :)
I woke up this morning to a Danson, an Iverson, and a Johnson. Guess who got watched first?
Danson? :)
Good to see you back Paul, love the shot of the tree, I think it might have been nice to have seen a longer exposure so that the tree would have been blurred from the movement. With the shot of the lake, if you had taken about twenty shots of the same you could have blended them in PS to give you flat water. Last but not least, loved the video too.
John Spencer thanks buddy . I took a 10 stop of the lake but it didn’t work so well
@@PaulGJohnsonphotography Thats because you didn't have a shave.
Here’s a photo question for you. How does a guy living in the Lake District become a Cleveland Indians fan?
I also have a New York Yankees hat. A lovely American chap sent it to me when he saw me wearing the Yankees hat :)
He's back :)
He is :)
