- The defense questioned Miu in his own defense. He shared he was in bad health on the day he was tubing down the river, having had bypass surgery previously. He described his fitness on July 30, 2022, as "very poor."
After a lunch break, the defense continued questioning Miu.

Can you imagine if the video didn’t exist? He’d 100% be in prison already. So lucky it does!
I think it's the other way around. Without the video his, I took the knife from them, I didnt have a knife, may have been believed

I cried when he talked about his dog. Something’s just are gone forgotten…but a pets love and I would worry about my pets. I know about them and don’t want to ever have to regime them. Two years he’s lost for what???

I've had a triple by-pass and believe me, the aftermath can affect your feelings of vulnerability and mortality and include severe depression. I just want to add this.
Not to mention fear of an unstable sternum from pressure/force put on your chest.

Can I ask what do you think is the catalyst for the depression after this specific surgery? Is it that your body feels weaker and you feel isolated during the healing process? My Grandma felt the exact same way after hers. She could never explain to us ‘why’ she felt that way, and never showed any symptoms of depression beforehand.

You used to be able to defend yourself in America and people used to respect their elders. Now these kids think it's fun to act like a roving pack of wolves and terrorize anyone unfortunate enough to cross their path.

I listened to 2 defense attorneys on social media commentating about this case. They both stated they would put this guy on the stand if he was their client.

I so agree. I wish I had given the boys who bullied me as a kid some NONviolent response that would have made them leave me alone forever. I didn’t/couldn’t and it went on until high school. This trial has been very triggering for me.

I watched a video where there is still some free speech on a website. There are two races on this earth one good and one very, very evil which is Satan's race. Mr. Miu did not go over to those kids to intentionally harm them. They were all drunk and bullying him for their own pleasure. Now they want to play innocent lambs but the video tells another story. He only used the knife when he was surrounded by the boys after being pushed in the water, I can see how he would be afraid for his life. He was attacked with hands to his throat, 51:26 is where he is being choked. I see that portion as self-defense. Just a horrible situation all the way around.

I think there must have been a lot of community pressure for the charges, because I just don't believe this guy had murder on his mind, ever. This is a heartbreaking tragedy and hopefully a meaningful lesson, especially for those who shouldn't be drinking in the first place. So many medical emergencies of all types originate from alcohol abuse.
It's incredibly sad that this conflict resulted in all this devastation, but this guy had a right to defend himself and he had good reason to be afraid.

When I was 18 I graduated and was I was held to the same exact standard I’m held as a 28 year old ADULT. None of my friends ever treated people like this and we all knew a group like these assholes. I still drink and smoke and did with my friends then, it’s no excuse to be animals. My heart aches for this guy, these rats had every intention of antagonizing him and slandering his name further taking a video and creating a horrible account of him being a pedophile and rapist. It’s just tragic the way he was treated and ganged up on. Recovering from a major surgery and surrounded by a pack of hyenas on unstable ground and running water. I’m glad he defended himself. The defendant has sat in jail this entire time as his bail was set at an astronomical level and he could not make bail. I wish him all the best but I fear that they have already ruined his life. A group of rowdy, drunk and high teens being loud and aggressive..watching that video with their noise and shouting gave me huge anxiety. I too would've been fearful, overwhelmed and when shoved into the water, being held down and throttled, I would have defended myself too. This is an extremely unfortunate situation, but this man needs to be set free and to be able to go home to his fur baby.
I realize a teen lost his life but their behaviour was atrocious and I hope they learn lessons from this on how to behave in public in future and to have respect for their elders.
You wouldn’t of rushed at them and physically stopped the raft of teenagers. You would’ve fled. You wouldn’t of engaged with them initially.

Clearly this man was stocked, cornered, assaulted, gang punched, pressed down in water, possibly to drown? This is a senior man, a survivor of heart surgery, trying to maintain his balance. It's very sad a young man lost his life and several others were terribly injured. But, this could have been avoided. I think this man felt very threatened. If a group of people came at me and grabbed me (men or women) I would have been very scared. I think this was self defense.

As tragic as this is, Miu should not be charged to the “fullest” extent as these clown kids were high as F and intoxicated, ultimately driving them to behave like monkeys towards Miu. I too was a teenager once but my parents raised me to respect others, especially adults. Those kids should be getting punishment too.

You dont think being stabbed having surgery and watching one friend die and the another almost die is punishment enough,?
As a parent, I’m very concerned about the company my kids keep, and their critical thinking skills. This is absolutely tragic for the parents of the victims and the accused.
To sum it up.... these children were bullying and attacking this man, the woman shows up....has no clue to the facts of whats actually going on..and she reacts with her feelings and joins the chant of this mob. She empowered the mob to the point them getting physical and one of the being killed. She should be on trial. This is a problem that plagues your society.....you can see it schools and single mothers and their children actually allowed to destroy the communities they live in.
This kind of situations are frequent and usually they get away from that kind of aggression unscathed and without consequences. 😢stabbings sould be the norm but you generally cannot prove it on video and you can spend the rest of your life in jail for defending yourself. That's f*cked up.

At 58 I was lucky enough to grow up in a somewhat sane society, know I find it best to stick to my neighborhood and avoid the public as much as possible, just for these reasons
This is an engineering professional and peaceful man by all You Tube accounts that I have seen. He was decked and gang attacked by violent, intoxicated young men looking for a sport beating for entertainment according to the video presented to me. They pursued him, decked him, blocked his retreat and continued to attack him when he was down in the water. He never attacked anyone from what I saw, until after being repeatedly struck and pushed down, possibly to drown in the water per the video i saw on You Tube. At that point, it appears he acted with reasonable fear for his life, while dealing with an intoxicated gang bent on beating him into the water, he made a desperate move to survive. Did it last a few seconds, then he retreated? My first concern is for the deceased young man and his family. They will never find peace. Was it just 2 beers that fueled the pack attack? This man is ruined because a gang of drunken young men and women decided to make attacking him their sport when he was simply looking for his cell phone? Where is the phone? Did one of the young men have it? All lay questions and speculation based on the you tube videos that I saw.
This is heartbreaking case. No kid should lose their lives in this manner. But no older man with health problems should be ganged up on by disrespectful, drunk, entitled kids during a day at the lake let alone anywhere on Earth. I'm so sorry anyone was injured and that a young man was killed. I'm also sorry that this man is, once again, fighting for his life, like he thought he was doing that day.

NOT Guilty. Madison was never hit, she was pushed away, but she said she was which escalated everything, that’s when the violence towards NM started. Madison is guilty and responsible for all injuries and a death. (IMO)
I hope they appeal because the more I review I believe this jury gave a law abiding citizen only 7 flipping hours to decide to end a man’s life, with no doubt in their minds. It sounds like they already decided before being chosen.
If you've ever taken a conceal carry course, you'd know that a person would need to do much less than this crowd did to threaten him in order to legally shoot a person. In fact, in Oregon, you can shoot a person just for pounding on your windshield. People need to learn to mind their business in public. You never know who is armed.

You absolutely do not get to punch a woman in the face, and then stab other people when you get beat up for it and claim self defense.
Not sure if you're aware how our laws work, but you cannot start a fight and THEN stab/shoot someone when you're losing the fight. and 2. The video clearly shows him starting the physical altercation with a knife in his hand. Nobody had assaulted him until he pushed/punched the girl in the face. He even stabbed the girl before he was punched. Then he stuck everyone that approached him
I watched the Miu police interview. He said he was drinking all day on the river with no water. He was just as intoxicated as anyone at the scene and it showed in the video. He could have made better choices. He lied about who had the knife to start with. He threw the knife away. He made no effort to call the police after the incident. He went back to his group and went on as nothing happened. He played stupid in the police cruiser. He had the knife and used it when he had several chances to walk away. Tragic!

I have trouble viewing him as an innocent victim. He helped to escalate the situation. And was even smiling when the two ladies were telling him to leave. But I don’t agree that first degree murder is the correct charge. And each stabbing victim has to be viewed differently according to the situation in which he stabbed them. Not all were self defense. Some were.
