I will be stationed at the Prairie Reef Lookout in the "Bob Marshall Wilderness", Lewis and Clark Forest this fire season 2024. Owen, you hit it out of the park with your Osborne tutorial, I would invite you to visit after July this year. Happy adventuring! Mark
This is absolutely wonderful! Hearing this bright young man lecturing on the use of an alidade left me breathless. I am here because moments before I was examining my father's Brunton compass. He bought it in the 50's, and had it all his life. It's been mine since he died, and I consider it to be the most precious possession of his that I have. He was a field geophysicist, and land surveyor for Texaco Inc. until his retirement in the early 1980's. In the 1950's he was included in the Who's Who of North American Land Surveyors. Knowing that anyone cares about these old instruments anymore, let alone knows anything about using them brings tears to my eyes. An A+ to you young man, you are helping to keep the past alive.
I want to say this is the best video about how to use one of these, but I think you're the only one that complete and shows all the functions.

Excellent tutorial! I just hired on for 2019 season and will spend a day at a lookout learning the equipment. You gave me a head start! Thank you!
