Absolutely brilliant information Carolin! Can’t thank you enough that even just trying without a club at home has shown me the error of my ways! Off to the range here in the UK to put into practice. You are definitely the best coach on RUclips 🙌 👍👍 KR John
Hey John! Thanks so much, yes its all about understanding the big concepts and then training them also off the golf course so the mind can focus on the movements and not the ball flight all the time! So glad my tips are helping you!
@@coachcarolin Hi Carolin! - brilliant, thanks! - just back from the range and I was truly amazed what a difference the way I hit the ball just by using the lead leg drill you describe. Still have some work to do completing a full backward leg around impact with the lead leg so I'm really looking forward to completing this next complementary part of your drill, both here at home and then at the range! I broke my trail ankle last year and repeating the "forward - back" motion over the past 2 hours has today certainly helped that ankle's suppleness (I am 74 !) Kindest Regards John, near Brighton UK 😊
Hello Coach Carolin, I have known that my hips and knees have been the source of my swaying. I called it having "Elvis Hips"! Which resulted in wayward ball flights that cost me unnecessary strokes on every round. After much searching, until know, I haven't found a good solution. Thank you for the great explanation of this controlled technique. I found and watched your video yesterday. Then watched it again this morning, before going to the driving range to practice it, before taking it to the golf course in a few days. I just returned from the range and I am very pleased to report that it worked wonderfully! It improved my ball contact and ball flight accuracy and I gained a little more distance. We are playing in two days and can't wait to utilize it on the course. I know that if I apply your technique properly it will shave a few shots off my score. :) Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the game with us. I just subscribed to your channel and gave this video a BIG THUMBS UP!
@@coachcarolin We played today and your Knee Tip worked GREAT! My Tee Shots were consistently landing in fairways or on greens; and my longer approach shots were tighter. We played a different course today than last week. The course length was similar, yet today's Course Rating was 3 strokes more and the Slope was 14 points higher. Although today's course was more difficult, my score today was 5 strokes lower than my score from last week. It is amazing how much your Knee Technique has improved my game. 🥳 Thank you, THANK you, THANK YOU!
Thank you Carolin for your video. I think your are explaining one of my swing problems. As a child, I learned golf in the UK. Coaches told me to practice in France because I had aptitudes. I played few years later at high school, but my swing became less and less consistent (sliced, hooked or toped balls) and I stopped. Few decades later, I would like to practice golf again, for that I am back to the basics. Yours videos are very helpful, thanks a lot.
Hello from Germany! Thank you very much for your effort to make these videos. I follow several trainers on RUclips. But with you I always find details that no one else has explained. That helps me a lot. Many, many thanks!
Carolin, I am so very grateful for all your videos but in particular this one. I really think that your advice you provide here will help me on the range and in my golf game. Thank you!!!
Carolina, I'm truly grateful for your shorts and lessons. At 61, my body needs to be relearning how to move; you do this expertly. My swing has greatly improved😅.
Wow this is very insightful! I was under an impression that you needed to rotate your hips way back but my contact is inconsistent. Going to work on this
This was epic for me. I’m getting older and starting to lose mobility. But I always fought the sway and never knew how much collapsing my lead knee was doing. This one is going to be a lot of reps on the practice range.
Clearly I need to get a camera setup - but I'm pretty sure the leg motion described here (lead knee going right, producing so much movement) is why I struggle to control the low point in swing. Very helpful video!
Great tip! I was having problems with inconsistent strikes and was looking for the problem. I was moving too much- You helped immensely. Thank you and I'm going to start watching all your videos!
Thanks going to try this on the range to see if ball speed goes up I hit it far now but could use more and should be easier to be more consistent with a swing than doesn’t involve shifting weight back so much.
I spent my practice time this morning working on this move. My ball striking definitely improved. Thanks again for a simple explanation on how the lower body should work during the swing.
Thank you for this clear explanation. I follow Danny Maude and Chris Ryan as well, but this tip resulted in a great result on the golf course last week, from 102 to 92 strokes on a PAR72 course. Thank you so much and keep up the good work!
Super instructive video..a question. My son does move his lead knee forward but it looks to me he is leaving much of his weight on the lead side & “falling / collapsing his left side down into that lead knee. I suspect for this move to work correctly you do have to do your amazing core rotation in unison with it? But thank you for the clarity of explaining the lead knee must move / bend forward and not be pulled to the right behind the ball. Really like the emphasis on not allowing the hips to rotate past 45 degrees of hip turn or face consequences of swaying / over turning hips & shoulders off the ball.
This video was HUUUUUUUUGE for me - life changing! I have known for a long time not to sway, but just wasn't sure I was doing it right. I felt inconsistent and too reliant on timing. And felt that I was maybe loosing power. THIS DID IT FOR ME! In fact, the impact was so big my clubs feel lighter than before as I'm swinging it more effectively. And the game felt consistent and easy. And I gained lots of distance too! I'm really not exaggerating that this was a HUGE change to my game. THANK YOU! Now if only you could fix my inconsistent driver swing - my clubface is not right (I don't hit up enough, and not straight).
Hey! I’m so glad this clicked for you! Would love to work with you to fix your driver swing :) check out my online coaching platform www.coachcarolingolf.com where you can upload swings directly to me and we can get started!
This is a great visual. After this demonstration, I realize I have this issue. I’m going to practice this drill at home to get the correct feel. Then I shall try it at the driving range. Thanks!
Very Good! Its something I am aware of, and still struggle to not move the left knee toward the right. This will help emphasize the knee movement and will work this at the range today. Thank You!
Ironically, this week, I just started trying to use my lead knee more to get a bigger turn off of the ball. It's very hard to time the strike when your lead knee goes inward, especially substantially. I really like this thought of forward with the lead knee. My ball striking really started to improve prior to seeing your video by engaging my knee but it felt a little awkard to me. Playing around on a pressure board, your thought of lead knee forward is BRILLIANT! I just love your communication style. Very simple and usable. If you have time, I'd love to see you demonstrate the proper way to transfer weight on a pressure board! I have a downshift board and I am starting to use it more often to improve my weight shift timing. My thinking is trail heel (back) to lead ball of the foot (forward), but I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks again for all of your content on this platform!
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching and the kind words! I am so glad its helping! Yes def will make a weight shift video for you all! :) Over all to answer your question, i like your weight shift you are describing for a draw, for a fade it would be the lead heel in the downswing. So weight shift can help optimize shot shapes so there is not ONE perfectly correct way :)
@@coachcarolin PS- lead knee out (for me) makes it so much easier to get into my trail heel on the way back. You are so smart and your communication of skills makes it much easier to apply. You also just really peaked my interest in how lead heel weight positioning in the downswing/throughswing can influence shot shape. Makes total sense. Would love to see more of your content. Especailly including these weight transfer dynamics.
1st time viewer , great explanation, very simple and uncomplicated, subbed immediately , off to the range soon to try this out!! im a swayer 😬, so hoping this helps :)
I have been hitting my irons and wedges chunky. At the end of the video, you said “Eliminate chunks” and that’s all I need to hear. Thank you for this video 🙏🏽
The biggest problem with most golf RUclips coaches is that we don’t have the ability to jump on a range or course immediately at home and then we forget once we get out there. thank you for providing exercises we can try out in our homes and hallways immediately to lock down the movements. Question: my coach had suggested to point my knees inward at setup to help with stability, do you recommend this?
My personal opinion would be to use a band around your knees and keep the tension more outward as that engages the correct muscle groups when you hit with out the aid. If you point them inward or squeeze a ball between then it will help with stability too but once you start swinging without it your knees tend to collapse which can make the instability worse. So that why i recommend doing a band.
Hi Carolin. I think your knee action on the backswing is on point. But I recently watched a Nick Faldo vid where on the downswing the trail knee goes toward the target rather than out. It seems to help with rotation and get that "knees together" finish. Thoughts?
Brilliant Carolin!! Many thanks for sharing this great explanation with us. Without being too greedy or presumptuous, could you please keep uploading videos like this with such great explanations. Many, many thanks! mike-barcelona
Again...great info..get camera closer..crop you !! Hard to see close up of instructions!! Why do you have all the background?? Take video filming lesson
This is pretty bad advice. Locking the trail leg like that is going to cause hip and lower back pain because it causes your spine angle to bend back and down. The trail leg should stay slightly bent to promote compression.
I will agree that swaying out the right knee during the backswing is not good. But other than that, have you seen the swings of Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, Ray Floyd? There are GREAT players who violate what you are preaching. Stop institutionalizing the swing; it hurts many a golfer from playing his/her best.
Wish someone would have taught me this when I was a teenager. I took this on the range and it made a BIG difference. Thank you Carolin!
