Do you have to discard at least 1 card to be able to draw back up to 7? I’m thinking you draw up to 7 at the start of the turn regardless of how many you discard (after the optional discard of course). Half of my gaming group is saying that you must discard at least 1 card to be able to get back up to a full hand because the rule about drawing is written “you may discard and then draw” in the same sentence. Their version of the ruling seems weird especially since you’d get stuck if you got down to 0 cards. Can I get some clarification on here? I’m pretty sure I’m right, but I need confirmation for them to agree
You MAY discard cards, as few as 0 cards and as many as every card in your hand, and THEN you draw up to 7 cards. The sentence isn't written that way to say 'discarding is a criteria for drawing cards', it's written that way so that players know that IF they are going to discard cards, they must do so BEFORE they draw any. It's entirely to prevent someone from drawing cards, then discarding, then drawing AGAIN. If we intended discarding to be a criteria for drawing, we would say so explicitly, in terms like 'You must discard at least 1 card in order to draw cards.'
@@JenniferKitzman right, so it’s exactly as I thought: optional discard and then draw up to 7 (regardless of whether any cards were discarded). I tried my best to convince my group of that because that’s how the rules are written, but I got overruled. I’ll relay it back to them
Ah I am trying to get my family to play this game again with me with just the casual rule to take a shot per strength of drink of whatever you choose. This way us non drinkers can enjoy the game will being thoroughly disgusted with this Mt dew beer my wife bought lol
I have 3 questions. If a card gives a player 2 free drinks from the drink me deck, does that mean the player drinks both cards on thatt same turn? Or do those pile onto the drink me pile? If that makes sense? (We just bought this game. 3 to be exact. Next question. What does "add/subtract *number* to any numeric effect mean" that's throwing me off. Does that mean for the fortitude and alcohol content? It's from wizgilles gear deck. Same with a few others I believe.
Hmmm, so my answers are going to be a little sloppy without specific examples, but here goes: If a player has multiple drinks added to their Drink Me! Pile in one turn, they will still only drink one drink during their Drink phase on their turn. A card that makes a player drink a drink will say so explicitly, such as with Fiona's 'We're at an inn and you're not drinking. What's wrong with you?' That card can be played at any time, and makes the targeted player drink the top drink on their Drink Me! Pile. Other cards may pass a Drink one player is about to drink to another player, such as Phrenk's 'I think you'll appreciate this drink more than I will' card - in that case, the player who is given the Drink resolves it at that time. Players do not (or at least, definitely should not) add drinks to their own Drink Me! Pile in typical play. When you play a card such as 'Wench, bring some drinks for my friends!' during your Order a Drink phase, you'll be placing a total of 3 cards from the Drink Deck (1 by default plus 2 for playing the card) on other player's Drink Me! Piles, ensuring that THEY have plenty to Drink when their turns come around! Now, Wizgille's cards that alter Numeric Effects can be a bit tricky at first, but as you play with her a few times you should get a full grasp on them. A Numeric Effect is the portion of an effect on a card expressed with a number. For example, Wizgille's 'This device can change alcohol to gold. Watch!' card does not contain any numeric effects, so if you reveal 'Excellent result!' from her Gear deck, there's no change to the effect. However, if Wizgille plays 'I think I can salvage some Gold from this thing' and reveals 'Excellent result!' from her Gear deck, that WOULD change the effect; it would go from 'Gain 1 Gold from the Inn' to 'Gain 2 Gold from the Inn.' Hopefully this helps!
@@JenniferKitzman That's interesting. My friends would interpret the excellent result as affecting the device card. Whatever number of gold she would have gotten for the gold-ified drink would have the extra gear card gold added onto it.
@@cosmicwinters Your friends are very close to the finish line of interpretation! The 'Excellent Result' card would affect ONLY the Gear Card, not the Drink that the Gear Card targets. Since the Gear Card 'This device can turn alcohol into gold' doesn't have any numbers in its effect text to modify, the effect isn't modified. Hopefully this clarifies things!
As long as you have the cards in hand and the criteria for playing them has been met (if any), then you can play them! When your Fortitude and Alcohol content meet, you still have the chance to play Anytime cards or effects to either save yourself or spite other players on the way out.
So, to get a little more specific to your example, your Fortitude would hit 16, and as long as those 'reduce your AC by 1' cards are Anytime, you could play them to go to 15 AC.
I really feel like this game should have been named something else. "The Red Dragon Inn" was famously the name of the role-playing chat room on America Online in the early 1990s. It's pretty iconic in RPG history.
Same, it HAS to be named after the AOL chatroom. Though it lacks all the people sitting in dark corners or up in the rafters. Oh and the random Darth Vaders and anime characters.

So if you reveal a chaser and you have no cards left in the drink me pile, resolve the effect with that number or ignore it?
Let's say I reveal a Wine with a Chaser, but there's no drinks left in the Drink Me pile...I would then happily consume my 2 AC Wine by itself!

You only refill your hand during the Discard & Draw phase at the start of your own turn.
