Probably the best ever Andy MacKay display on Tenor sax on 'A Song For Europe' I've ever seen (and I've been watching Roxy live since 1973) truly brilliant.

Agreed 100%. Me too since 1972. The alto just doesn't cut it. It could be breath restrictions of age.

Phil M's solos and fills on "Thrill," some of the best I've ever heard! Thanks for posting. Similar to Belew playing live with Bowie on Station to Station in 78 and 90. For the uninitiated see him this year, with Oliver Thomp. best soloist he's played with since Manz. He rips! OPD rules!!

Vintage Roxy post Eno-thanks for posting this a total classic. Roxy Music was two completely different bands I get sick of people trying to compare them.Eno had to leave for his sake and Roxy always was Ferry-Eno couldn't exist in Roxy Music.Eno was like Neil Young in CSNY yah they were a supergroup but they were much better as two separate artists.

Thanks for putting these concerts up just great nostsalgia for fans alike depending on those that were at the recent concerts and expecting the group to sound like they did back then knowing that will neverhappen in Their 70’s which is unjustifibable enjoy the concerts as they are and as Roxy Music as in Bryan Phil Andy & Paul . Isn’t it l better to have loved n not have lost . I have read read some of the comments about their voices well about Bryan’s voice I just hope they can sing as good Bryan when 77 😢 I thought listening to his vocals at these shows was fine unless up in the clouds I find the 3 Aren in Dublin is kind of ehco’ed at simplybred a few years back no fault of theirs it needs plenty of musicians to build up the sounds the space

On this video it's Michael Dawe on drums. I saw Roxy at the beginning of 1981 in N.Z. and was very disappointed that neither Paul Thompson nor Andy Newmark was on drums. It was Michael Dawe when I saw them and in spite of an impressive C.V. he wasn't up to the standard of PT or AN. On this video he does some pretty good playing.

I must say that Michael Dawe (who only played on selected dates on this tour) does some really fine drumming in this concert. Distinct & heavy although not as thunderous as the Great Paul Thompson, I think his style fits perfectly with the 1979 and forward Roxy music. Drumming is like a clockwork! Gary Tibbs on bass guitar is another star of the show. Tight and heavy!
I always felt that the Roxy style of music demands a very tight rythm section to keep everything together. Just compare this concert + roxy music on the road live ruclips.net/video/dZQu8q8xnfE/видео.html with for example the last official live concert "Roxy Music - The High Road" ruclips.net/video/FS0yzFIHLF0/видео.html. While the 1982 concert is by no means bad, you can really feel that the glory days are over..

    • @johnwoods2736
      @johnwoods2736 11 месяцев назад

When I saw Roxy Music in NZ early 1981 it was almost the same lineup as here. Gary Tibbs on bass and Michael Dawe on drums. Michael Dawe disappointed at the time as (surprisingly) did Gary Tibbs. Michael Dawe is pretty good here and on Manchester Manifesto from 1979 which has better recording you can hear how good Gary Tibbs was - really powerful and versatile. I was impressed how Gary Tibbs could switch from pick on some songs "Still Falls the Rain" to fingers on others e.g. Manifesto.

I agree with John Shane. He starts his vocal in the wrong key and never really recovers. It's a mistake he made on certain songs from time to time, over the years, although rarely these days. I agree with you too, that the sound system can often be a part of it too. A singer needs good monitors on stage.

hmmm, never felt that way..in fact I think Flesh and Blood is too often panned, sandwiched between their 2nd life debut MANIFESTO and the heavily praised swan song AVALON. Sure it has some weak moments, but there are some gems in there and the covers are other worldly.

I agree; the flesh and blood album was incredibly commercially successful st the time. I think it charted for 2 years in UK charts Lexicon of Love was at number 2 behind it for a while at that was massive too. They really sold whole albums in those times

Off key, I mean. Great to see this show though! I like it very much. The sound of the Flesh + Blood tour was different to the album. I always enjoyed that difference.

Madness and stupidity to have a second guitarist with Phil Manzanera around, and have them do a solo too.

That is not just a guitarist. That is amazing guitarist. Who played the solo on Can’t let go! And listen to his performance of “my only love” on the live cd of the avalon tour!

Manzanera's guitar is to low in the mix, resulting in a lack of punch on a number of tracks.

The only is that some concert venues the dound can be very distant depending where you are sitting Even the 02 in London the sound was not best as when I Did the FYP tour 2011 concert brilliant but not he sound is baron. Plus it’s so far away For travel

Every black metal group around would have been in a hurry to hire that drummer.
I SWEAR I got a horrific shock when I saw THAT! Hammer Horror with no make up.

Its an unwritten law that drummers dont criticise other drummers.
BUT the drums in this concert are terrible. On Song for Europe, downright unforgivable.
