It really does and dealers or most others shops do the minimum and often even leave things in a mess but if its your own, you often takes more care and fix or clean while in there.
I’m in over $20,000 in my truck the last couple years. New engine, just had the transmission rebuilt, and tons of other work. I’ve still got an awesome truck though lol. 2005 Ford Ranger FX4 with paint that still shines like new.
YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGTH, MARK! I HAVE AN "OLD" CAR, A PEUGEOT, A 406 MODEL, 2.2 HDI DIESEL, 2004,136 BHP, 146K KMS. IT DRIVES LIKE NEW, I DON'T WANT ANYTHING ELSE. BEST REGARDS, FROM PORTUGAL, EUROPE.
Thank you so much and I appreciate you reaching out. Lets save money in this world of scam artists. BTW, what part of Portugal are you from? My wife is from Azores and I have been there a couple time and last year I had a layover in Lisbon on our way to Italy. Lovely country, and I am trying to convince wifey to have us relocate. Cheers
@@markholubetz You bet, we have to be DIYers in everything nowadays! Your wife is Portuguese?! Wow, that's awesome! You know what, I'm from the Portuguese isles too, I'm from Madeira, Cristiano Ronaldo's homeland! I live in Funchal, the capital. I know Açores, that's how we spell it in Portuguese, very well! I'm a teacher and love the 9 islands of Açores. I've been once to Ponta Delgada in São Miguel, it's beautiful! The green landscape, the volcanoes, the beautiful cows and tasty milk and cheese, the fish... Pedro Pauleta, the footballer... My husband and I love cars, that's why we found your channels. We love Canada, Nelly Furtado, Celine Dion, and I also had Canadian friends at university in Porto 25 years ago!
Problem is newer cars you can't fix like the old ones. You can't just drop a crate engine in it and call it a day. They aren't making them that way for years now. They are making them so you have to pay a dealer and even then are going toward obsolescence. They are making them to PREVENT you from keeping them on the road . Planned obsolescence is a real thing. You'll have to buy a older car if you want to rebuild it. Basically
2006 corolla 1 owner, ac, apple carplay, new Michelins, new windshield, tinted windows , like new clean interior… I could keep going. Paid for in cash, no payments. 1.8 motor doesn’t burn a drop of oil. To me that is a good car and worth putting money and effort into.
I have a paid off 2019 Honda Civic EX-L. I am the first and only owner. I keep the car immaculate and will try to keep it as long as possible. This allows me to be financially free.
Just goes to show you that taking care of your stuff can be very rewarding. Your truck with 165k kms is in beautiful shape for something that comes from Alberta, did you get this from your Dad?
Yes it has always been looked after and I bought it from the father in law about 10 years ago and have always just stayed on maintenance and kept it clean. Winters in Alberta can be brutal with the salt and sand but I try to clean at least once or twice a week during the winter season to limit the impact. It started life as a holiday trailer rig.
My GMC truck is 15 years old this year, love the “old girl” I do most of the work myself, I recommend a good scan tool, one that is bi-directional. Great video, thanks.
I agree. I drive a 23 year old Lexus gs430. It has lasted this long because I’ve taken care of it as best as I can. It runs smoothly and I just can’t justify going into debt to buy a new car, not for a couple more years at least. You can’t enjoy life if you’re heavily indebted.
been keeping my truck passing annual state inspections for 24 years.i guess i can do it another 24 if i have too.getting too old for drivetrain replacement.but, you got to do what you got do sometimes.at least i still have the tools & cherrypicker.its the motivation i lack.i thought that crap was behind me.
My f150 is turning 7 this year at 97k currently. Changed all the fluids already, and do my oil changes at 8k. Annual rust proofing (body is aluminum but frame and suspension are steel) hoping for another 10 years!
I suggest changing oil every 3,000 miles. Just changed mine and it was pretty dirty for the mileage. Dirt in the oil is what causes the wear. Plus at that interval you can use conventional oil. Over the life of the vehicle it’s not that much more money, and it’s a lot less than a new engine.
One other thing is you will save a lot on insurance by driving an old car. You don't have to carry full coverage if there is not a loan on it (at least in the States).
I am honestly looking into a professional grade fluid extractor that runs off of compressed air. There are so many vehicles now where access to differentials and transmissions is so cramped that you would have to take apart half the vehicle just to change the fluids. An extractor eliminates half the work and often times you don't even have to jack the vehicle up to change a fluid. Most people spend $500 a month on their car loans. Imagine if you spent that on tools.....
If you don't have a car payment, you also don't have those high monthly insurance payments or the high annual car tags that come with a new car. Keep your old car running as long as you can. Save what would have been car payment money and pay off other debts. If you're out of debt throw what would have been car payment money toward your mortgage.
I think i will keep my 2008 Chevy TrailBlazer with almost 300k on it ac still work fine don't burn no oil the body starting to rust out but it's a work truck I have a 2015 Buick Lacrosse AWD for the weekend and they both paid for drive them till the wheels fall off
At this point i think about just buying a old motorcycle and getting my M series license and driving that in the summer and beater Elantra during the winter.
Its really easy....drag that old truck from out back, put some new brakes on it, some tires and a tune up and just say no to a ONE THOUSAND DOLLAR PAYMENT........ ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR EVERLOVING MIND???? Just no...let them go bankrupt.
Your windshield needs attention, that doesn’t look so good. I would climb in that thing and oh god! A tiny rock chip, no big deal but you got a huge crack. Peanuts compared to parts on your sports cars or the bosses Mercedes
Maintaining your vehicle gives you a sense of pride, more so if you do the work yourself.
It really does and dealers or most others shops do the minimum and often even leave things in a mess but if its your own, you often takes more care and fix or clean while in there.

Oh yes thats a classic, I love those trucks. I have a cousin who has that truck in orange. Lovely

You take good care of your truck. Older is better, less electronics and cheaper to fix. 👍🏼
Your video has been so encouraging thank you so much man God bless you 👍👍👍
Have a great day Mark! Especially with the forced electric transition I'm keeping my GTI until the wheels fall off

Most people can live without a truck. For work, a work van holds way more and half the cost, secure enclosed tools etc..

It use to be one week pay for a home/rent. People go way over their debt to income ratio. Not worth it.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Just maintain your paid off vehicles and keep them clean and your golden.

Heck, if the car or truck you own runs good, then stick with it.

Haha thats fair, mine has almost 105,000 Miles or 163,000 kms

Haha, thats fair, and the dirt is free. Bonus deal. lol

Be Real I have seen you cars.Like you say Life is to short to drive Boring Cars....
You should never buy a car or take the recommendation from someone who advocates covering rust with cheap trim pieces instead of fixing it
