Yes, Jeremy Jordan (the voice for Varian, the boy in the blizzard) indeed scratches all of the good brain itches! I love literally everything he's in, he's one of my absolute favorite Broadway actors. Also, to clarify timeline a bit, "the wind in my hair" is the first chronologically. The whole series is set after the movie, so she starts with the chopped brown hair, but through magic spoilers she gets her long blonde hair back. So the last song was far later!

The alchemist boy who played the piano is named Varian. He's voiced by the amazing Jeremy Jordan, and he's an original character for the series.
And funny how you mentioned Broadway, because you know who's also an original character who has a voice actor from Broadway? Cassandra! She's voiced by Eden Espinoza.
Jeremy is famous for Newsies and Little Shop Of Horrors on Broadway, (+ the CW show Supergirl), and Eden was Elphaba from Wicked!
I just love that they picked these people because their songs are honestly the bests.

Fun fact, Waiting in the Wings was the first time they really had Cassandra (Eden Espinosa) belt in a song. It was in the big mid season 2 episode. She’d sung a few lines in some select songs prior to this, but was always told to hold back on purpose (waiting in the wings to show her stuff lol) there was only one line she was able to kinda belt with (“Prove they can trust me!” In the song “Ready as I’ll ever be.”) ((and that was only because it was foreshadowing to her character and her past)) and they did this on purpose to really emphasize the whole “Yes, she can do this, she’s always been able to do this, and yes you should listen to her, but she isn’t being allowed or given the chance to dothis and she’s not being listened to.” And also in order to catch the audience off guard lol.
Then they had her hold back again (even holding back in the season 2 finale) until she was allowed to belt and continue belting in season 3 when the dam finally burst lol.
They also chose Eden Espinosa SPECIFICALLY for Cass. The writer straight up heard a video on RUclips of Eden singing something live oand went “Her. I want her as Cass. Nobody else.”

Varian, the guy you kept saying you were wowed by his voice, is voiced by Jeremy Jordan who also is a broadway actor. A lot of people know him for playing Jack Kelly on the original Newsies broadway cast, but he's been in a lot of stage shows and TV shows too. I recommend watching or listening to the songs from it if you want to see more of him.
    All right, obligatory context time:
Wind In My Hair is from the first episode/the pilot movie. She gets her magic gold hair back and the series is her and the others trying to figure out why. At this point she's been a princess for a bit but is feeling trapped as she doesn't have as much freedom as she thought she would between princess duties she's trying to get accustomed to and her dad having ptsd from when she was taken from him as an infant. Cass snuck her out one night so she could have a little bit of that freedom.
Crossing The Line takes place after Waiting In The Wings (a song about Cass's feelings when it came to their adventures thus far as she's come to the point in the series where no one is really listening to her or taking her advice and opinions into consideration, especially since now Rapunzel isn't relying on her as much anymore now that she has gotten that freedom she wanted), Cass finds out a dark secret about her and Rapunzel's shared past but kept it and her feelings from Waiting In The Wings a secret from everyone in the group and betrays them as she had reached her breaking point. From Rapunzel's point of view, this came out of nowhere since she was preoccupied with everything else going on, hence why she wanted Cass to stop so they could try to talk this through. Cass however is feeling a lot of emotions and obviously the wrong wording was used. The secret she finds out that sets her off on this "we're done, I want revenge" path drifts largely into spoiler territory, but you are on the right track with "calling Rapunzel out on her privilege", though it's not the privilege of being royalty, its something different that we the audience know the full scope of but Cass can only see from one side.
Make You Proud, finally, is a Varian song that goes through how he feels about how his dad views him. It's established he's an alchemist and an inventor and his dad isn't too keen on his son doing those things and has always shown disappointment since his experiments tend to end disastrously. Before the song something happened that caused his dad to become trapped but since there was a blizzard going on help was unlikely to come unless he went to get it himself, hence why he's out there alone.

    • @kiryn5977
      @kiryn5977 Год назад

tbf, Mathew does know the spoiler about Cass, as in his first video about Tangled the Series he (possibly accidentally?) reacted to the "Waiting in the Wings Reprise" (rather than the original song XD). Tho his memory might be a bit fuzzy on those details now, as in this video he seems to have had a revelation about the two versions of Cass's design being the same person, whereas in his first video, he watched "Nothing Left to Lose" and then "Waiting in the Wings Reprise" and easily surmised they were the same person at that time. XD

His dimples, his smile, his voice, his boyish charm, I may have had a bit of a crush on him for years) and Let me make you proud is my absolute favorite show from Rapunzel's Tangled Adventures because it sounds so epic and also so adventureous. This video made me want to have a new rewatch of the whole series, even if it's not that long ago since I last watched it, it's such a great show and I love most of the songs :)
Also I think it's cool that Waiting in the wings was what finally got Alan Menken an EGOT (he was a winner of Grammy Award, Oscar Award and Tony Awards and this song got him an Emmy win too) =D

there are multiple characters whether main or recurring who are voiced by broadway alumni- Varian is voiced by Jeremy Jordan, Casandra is voiced by eden Espinoza and Lance is voiced by James Monroe iglehart. The music is composed by Disney icon/legend Allan Mencken who is known for composing broadway style music for Disney. I suggest Buddy song, everything I ever thought I knew , Bigger than that and I'd give anything.

Some context for the various songs:
Wind in My Hair is the first song, from the movie that starts the series. It also acts as the theme to the show.
I Will Make You Proud follows Queen For a Day, where Varian is trying to ask Rapunzel's help (which she has to reject). It's actually before his villain turn, as her rejection is basically what causes him to slip. (He does turn good again, but it's a big gap in between.
Waiting in the Wings was from Season 2, about the halfway point. Cassandra is technically one of the three main characters with Rapunzel and Eugene, appearing in nearly every episode if not all of them. But the title has an even better stealth pun. See, Cass is Raps's lady-in-waiting, which is basically a maid to help her dress and such, and she is also usually rejected from what she wants.
Crossing the Line is from the Season 3 opener, and is indeed where Cass becomes the antagonist for the season. While Rapunzel embodies the Sundrop, Cassandra just grabbed the Moonstone.

Ahahaha funny how you mentioned the fact that she doesn't wear any shoes.
You know from the movie that she just lived in her tower all her life, so shoes weren't an option. When she went outside, she hadn't any shoes to wear, so again it's normal.
And in the series, at the beginning, they try to make jer wear shoes but she finds it unconformable so she just doesn't wear them xD
And honestly, when you spent eighteen years without wearing anything except a dress, it's understandable 😂

some context for Let Me Make You Proud (though I recommend listening to Nothing Left to Lose):
Varian was like fourteen? fifteen? (he was really young) and he was /really/ into alchemy but he wasn't that good at it and he would constantly mess up experiments. In one of his failed experiments, he accidentally incased his dad in an unbreakable material which was found by Rapunzel and was connected to her hair because it also couldn't be cut at that point. Let Me Make You Proud is basically Varian apologizing to his dad and saying he'll find a way to free him and make him proud and for once to /something/ right. He's going to Rapunzel's kingdom to try and ask her for help because she's the only one with the ability to free his dad, but because of the snow storm; Rapunzel can't leave and declines to help him- which makes Varian very upset and angry because he's now a young kid stuck with no family or help from friends (basically feeling completely abandoned). This leads to his villain arc that eventually leads to Ready As I'll Ever Be where he's basically setting up a trap to force Rapunzel to help his dad. And eventually, Varian is reintroduced after his arrest and is becoming good (though he did struggle at first as he tried to make people forget everything he did using his alchemy) and when Cass was manipulated into turning against Rapunzel Varian tries to help her and empathize with her (Leading to a song called Nothing Left to Lose which is a duet between Cass and Varian) basically saying that he gets what it's like to be angry and what its like to want to take it out the way Cass was because he WAS in her position before.

bit of backstory for all tangled songs you've reacted to so far:
Wind in my hair: This one's from the pilot episode of the show. In this, Rapunzel and her lady-in-waiting, Cassendra sneak out of the castle to explore what's beyond the walls of their kingdom. If i'm not mistaken this happens about half a year after the events of the movie.
I've got this (first episode you made): this is from a one-hour special episode set during the events of season one of the show. In this episode, Rapunzel's parents need to leave the kingdom for a while and leave Rapunzel in charge. However, she quickly finds that being queen isn't as easy as she thought. There's also the problem that an unexpected snowstorm is on it's way to Corona (the name of the kingdom)
Let me make you proud: also from the previously mentioned special. Varian, a young alchemist (about 12 to 14 years old if i remember correctly) had been doing an experiment at his house that went badly and accidently got his father trapped in a cristal-like substance that's unbreakable. He decides to "fix it" by going to Corona and to ask Rapunzel for help. He makes his journey during the previously mentioned snow storm
Ready as I'll ever be: (first episode reaction): this is from the season one finale. Varrian's attempt at getting Rapunzel's help had failed, so he had to return with no solution to his problem. He discovers that by the time he came back, his dad had been completely engolfed in the substance, and he's too late. Never the less, he still tries to save him. Feeling abandoned by his friends, and being an edgy teen, he decides to take a more villainous approach to his problem and kidnaps the queen. He will let her go if Rapunzel uses her now unbreakable hair (it's a whole thing from the pilot) to cut his father out of the cristal-like substance. Meanwhile, Rapunzel, but more importantly Cassandre, who always wanted to be a soldier instead of a lady-in-waiting, are preparing to take drastic messures to get the queen back. Preparing for a possible war (as they don't know how big the threat is).
Waiting in the Wings: This is from season 2 episode 14. In this season Rapunzel and some of her friends (including Cassandra) go on a journey to find out how to stop the black cristals that have been terrorising their home, and that clearly seem connected to Rapunzel (also a pilot thing. These cristals are also the things Varian was experimenting on). Cassandra is happy she can come along as that can finally prove that she's meant to be a warrior. But despite that, Rapunzel and the people around her keep underestimating her and keep acting like she's just the "lady-in-waiting" and "Rapunzel's freind". She starts to realise that she can't show her true potential as long as the people around her aren't even acknowledging that she has that talent, and as long as Rapunzel keeps playing the hero.
Waiting in the Wings (reprise, also first episode reaction): We are jumping straight to episode one of season 3. The group have reached the Moonstone, the thing that's been causing the black cristals to destroy stuff. However, Cassandra decides to take the magic of the cristal for herself, and it is revealed through a flash-back that during the events of Season 2, when Cassandra was saperated from the group for some time, she had found out that Mother Gothel was her mother. Something she had forgotten. And that her mother had abandoned her to kidnap rapunzel. This song plays when she comes to the realisation that she's always been in Rapunzel's shadow.
Crossing the line: same episode as the previous one. While Cassandra isn't planning on being a villain at this point in time, she is planning on using the magic of the moonstone to be her own person, to be in the spotlight, to not be a shadow of Rapunzel.
Nothing left to loose (previous reaction episode): This is from season 3 episode 12. At this point, Cassandra has been influenced to be the villain. She pretty much wants Rapunzel dead at this point. Varrian, who has had a redemption arc by this point, goes to try and convince Cassandra that things don't have to be like this. She can be good if she wants to. However, Cassandra refuses to listen to him.
Through it all: This is a song from the series finale. Cassandra has concured the kingdom of Corona, and Rapunzel is trying to get the people who used to live there, who've been casted out just like her, to stand up and fight for their kingdom.

This show is actually excellent. It gets dark and twisted, too. I love it. The Waiting in the Wings Song is right after Rapunzel commands Cass to stop and listen to her. They are friends, and that is the first time Rpunzle pulls the "I am the princess! You do not tell me what to do" card. It is shocking and out of nowhere, and it really affected Cass. She gives up her chance to become a Captin of the guard to go with Rapunzel, and their friendship falls apart. She finds out some stuff about her past later on, and it turns her evil. But it really is a jaw-dropping scene. This show shows them growing into their 20s, which is really good. It also proves that Eugene and Rapunzel are meant to be together after years of dating and maturing. Unlike other Disney movies, Rupunzle says no to his proposals more than once before they get married. I love this show.

This man deserves context... so here's the basics.
Season 1: At the start everything is chill, Cassandra (blue hair) is Rapunzel's lady in waiting, and Varian (smooth voice jumpy boi) is just a young genius teenage alchemist. Longs story short, Varian did some stupid stuff and accidentally traps his father inside a spike of unbreakable amber. He goes to Raps for help, but she has other things and pushes him aside, and out of desperation he kidnaps Queen Ariana (Rapunzels mom) and threatens to kill her if she doesn't submit to his demands. Song "Ready as I'll Ever Be." They get the mother back, Varian is sent to prison, and everything is fine and dandy until season 2 where Raps goes on a journey to 'find her destiny' or whatever.
Season 2: The trip is prompted by the appearance of also unbreakable black rocks that Rapunzel seems to be connected to, because after touching one, her short hair grew back and is now *also* unbreakable, as well as some other stuff. Varian has disappeared for the season. Throughout the journey, Cassandra starts getting jealous, and realizes that Rapunzel is the reason for a lot of her struggles; losing her mom, being forced to serve as a lowly handmaid, losing one of her arms which is too much to explain, and always stealing her spotlight in every situation. Her rage quietly endures for the season, until the finale, where when Raps is about to destroy the moonstone, aka the unbreakable black rocks destroying Corona, Cass swoops in and steals it, wanting equal but opposing power. Thus, we get the song "Crossing the Line."
Season 3: The group returns to Corona after receiving a destress message. The king and queen have been brainwashed, and Varian, along with a group of pirate-ish thugs have taken over and tell Raps and the gang to skip town and nobody gets hurt. The pirate group starts to get more violent, which Varian didn't agree to, and is therefore thrown into a jail cell with Rapunzel when he tries to disagree. Raps and V talk about the events, and agree to give teamwork a shot after everything, because in the end.... The sweet boi is 15, motherless and now fatherless, dealing with depression and abandonment, and just needs a hug. Dealing with some trust issues, Varian rejoins the team, and they all battle to fight Cassandra, who is also being manipulated by an ancient demon known as Zhan Tiri and is being gaslit into believing nobody will love her if she doesn't make herself seen. In the end, once again Rapunzel the cinnamon roll conquers all, Cass leaves to start her own solo adventures, Varian gets his dad back after help and a lot of trial and error. Also, Eugene and Raps finally get married.
You're welcome, that is the plot.
