To be fair, none of the wines she was given was "cheap". $12 a bottle is not bottom of barrel... I'm not sure about the pricing on those, but it seemed more like average priced vs expensive, really. But I'm sure if you don't really need an expert to tell a $5 bottle vs a $60 bottle...
I love how Belinda was so inclusive of the lower cost wines. A lot of the experts have been disparaging of the cheaper sides of their field. I love it when the expert describes situations where you would want the more cost effective product.
I've honestly never heard a wine expert disparage cheaper wines, and I've been around wine and wine people for more than a decade now. I've heard some people do that while trying to pretend they're a wine expert, but never anybody who is actually knowledgeable. I think wine by its very nature encourages people to be in good cheer and want to be good company, and the quality of cheap wine today is so much better than it has ever been. There's some really good value wines. Can you get better paying more? Sure. Is that always worth it? No. I'd rather drink the cheap stuff every day and get to afford the nicer stuff for special occasions. I like to get a nice well-aged Barolo for my birthday every year, as a present to myself, and share it with good company, but am I going to bust out a really expensive wine to drink with my pasta and meatballs on a Thursday night? Nah. $8 bottle goes down just fine, even if my spaghetti is handmade with saffron, and the meatballs are from three different kinds of animals, simmering in a pot with homemade tomato sauce for a couple hours developing a ton of flavor. A good value wine holds up fine to just about everything, and any real expert would acknowledge that. Experts aren't made of money, and they obviously like wine enough to want it all the time so it should be obvious they drink more of the cheaper stuff than almost anyone. They just know they can get a lot out of the really good stuff when they can get it, and they know how to find the really good values in cheaper wine they drink all the time.
honestly, this is the big one because there's so much hackery involved in wine expertise. however, as usual for this series, the expert is fantastic, knowledgeable and respectful towards all the products available.
I loved the video's, but they made it pretty easy on her. WOuld have been nice to see her have 2 cabs go against eachother. Or a pino noir that wasnt in a can lol
Internet bots and just simply negative people from the internet. Even a video with puppies will have at least 1-2% negative votes. Also the fact that 99% of people don't vote because they are lazy or don't want to bother giving their opinion, even if they think it's a decent video, much like how I never vote. Hate is a much bigger driving force in the universe to compel action.
I guess the fact that all the more expensive wines were usually B and the time it wasn’t, it was severely outclassed in the price tag makes it a bit hard to believe. Just makes me feel like this is one of those company productions. Didn’t dislike though.
Maybe because it was too easy? It's not like it was a $15 vs $18 comparison, but rather a $9 vs $90 in the end. Even the less extreme examples were still "clearly aged in a barrel" vs "not really aged but kept in stainless steel". Clearly an expert would have no trouble with it. The version with the knives was similar, where it got a lot of blowback in the comments for the last one being a $3100 piece of forged art verses...just some knife for bread.
i wish Epicurious could drop the names of the brands so i could try them myself 😂 i mean, i know they can't because of legal reasons. but still, it'd be so cool to take a sip/a bite WITH the expert on screen to try and see what they're talking about!

Gosh! I was wondering whether this video was taking so long because the selected wine expert got everything wrong - but no. This lady really knew her stuff! Can't wait to see what experts you'll come up with for future videos. I'm thinking a pasta expert, an oil (olive, sunflower, coconut, etc.) expert, a spirits (brandy, vodka, whisky) expert. Maybe even a cake expert!
Unfortunately she was wrong about quite a few things that I'm surprised no one has pointed out yet. Most notably ---- Rosé is NOT a mix of white and red wine (a common but definitively incorrect misconception)!!
Now I know there's an actual reason for the stereotype of the rich guy swirling about the wine in his glass all the time. It actually helps with the taste - thanks for the information, you evidently have a lot of chemistry knowledge and enthusiasm for your field. Keep up the good work and keep breaking that image! :)
You'll see beer and whisky drinkers do the same. All those volatile chemicals get released by the kinetic action and start to oxidize. Whisky drinkers will also sometimes add a couple drops of water into a glass to help open it up. The reason wine glasses are the shapes they are, is to help keep the aromas from escaping. They stay in the bowl and get inhaled by the nose and mouth while smelling or sipping. Generally, and especially with a nice bottle of wine that's aged long enough to develop a lot of complex aromas, you will want to decant a bottle, or at a minimum open the bottle for a while before pouring it, to allow the air to start mixing with the wine. There's always a sweet spot where the wine reaches its pinnacle after the bottle is opened, but before it oxidizes too much.
Amazing wine expert she was articulate and fun and not pretentious I love her! So on point with the wine descriptions and flavors well done! Love these kinds of videos please more

I’m not saying the editing is bad I’m just saying you don’t need to have a camera cut every 3 seconds. I counted Edit: it has come to my attention that these cuts are likely a way for the editors to take out a lot of vocal pauses. While that makes for a great audio flow, it really is visually distracting, and perhaps there was a happy medium between taking all of them out and leaving all of them in.
@@MisterNohbdy okay. I'm obviously not a film editor. Do they have to swap angles when they do that? It's the flipping around of perspective that kind of makes it challenging to watch. Or is it just too weird to cut out those extra words with the cameras still facing the same direction?

Hi Mishi! Belinda's enthusiasm and passion made this video such a joy to watch! I have tons of fun and informative wine videos on my channel to help you to taste (and smell) like the best of 'em! Check out my 21 Days to Wine series. Episode 1 of the series is an 'Introduction to Wine Tasting'-- Let me know what you think!
I appreciate that she took the time to teach techniques for opening and appreciating the wine, rather than just answering the question on which is more expensive.
I've had canned wine and it's really not bad. It's surprisingly enjoyable and super convenient. Some brands are better than others, so you'll be charged with the fun task of finding the one you like best. But other than that, it's cheap, it's tasty, and can be pretty refreshing sometimes, too!
This was definitely what this series needed!!!! And maybe a continuation with wines with different qualities (like mineral or acidic or aged) or even with natural and orange wines!!!??? That would be cool
OMG I love this woman. It's clear that she is an expert in what she does but she keeps it so cool that you don't feel like she is pretentious. I love it.
She's so nice. Deals a blow to the snobby wine expert stereotype. Love how she even makes the cheap wine seem so good! Maybe do an oil or rice expert next!
I normally think wine experts are bunk but she's definitely doing a great job convincing me otherwise. I wonder if she'd fall for the dyed white wine experiment/trick a study did.
That study in itself was “bunk.” The second trial prompted the students (not experts btw) to rate the wines using descriptors typical for red to the red and white to the white. Definitely not unbiased. Hell the manuscript wasn’t even totally published, that should tell you something right there. And his sample size was extremely small and only covered a narrow group of people. He had no controls... in short, that study was a mess. Cool to talk about though I guess.
Well if you're not a wine snob, it's a nice idea... As long as you're not expecting the same thing from your canned wine and your bottled wine. There will be no aging, you would ideally put young wine in there and avoid anything you might want to decant to get them to reveal themselves and so on. In other words, it's a fine idea for approximately the same usages you may have for canned sodas : having a refreshing nice drink almost anywhere anytime. If you want to drink an interesting and complex wine that you choose to get a good marriage with your dishes, steer away from the canned wine !! Another advantage/disadvantage is that this is a one person portion, might not even be enough to accompany a big dish, you lose the sharing of the bottle aspect but you can consume your wine alone if your friends prefer another beverage.
I've actually found some great canned wines! I don't buy super expensive wines very often and tend to buy whites and roses. I've also picked up a couple red canned wines for cooking when I didn't need an entire bottle and wasn't disappointed.
Belinda did such an awesome job explaining the wines and bringing the viewer on the trip with her! Loved this -- wish I could watch her try wines all the time!

Please bring her back. I want her to talk about wine for hours and listen to her explain the smallest details in the most mesmerising way!
Can we have a video that’s a feast with all the experts bringing the best item from their disciplines? Like the best cheeses, wine, salt, etc. ?

honestly, this is the big one because there's so much hackery involved in wine expertise. however, as usual for this series, the expert is fantastic, knowledgeable and respectful towards all the products available.
The hackery comes from people who AREN'T wine experts.

On the plus side even down votes helps the video get more traffic.
@@aoikemono6414 Also, I've always maintained that a decent chunk of down votes (and up votes) in any given video could be unintentional.
An expert that’s not a snob! Wonderful person.
i wish Epicurious could drop the names of the brands so i could try them myself 😂 i mean, i know they can't because of legal reasons. but still, it'd be so cool to take a sip/a bite WITH the expert on screen to try and see what they're talking about!
Same! Especially the A bottle Rose, I want to try it!
@@lucarit4107 if you want a quality Rosé I recommend the Minuty Millésime. It's quite cheap and has a worldwide recognition as one of the best Rosé in the best region of France for Rosé, The Côtes de Provence.

Some people just taste tannins. Do you like black coffee or tea?
@@SockDrawerDemon I do but not straight. What are tannins?
@@jingles1176 milk/fat binds the tannins, so that makes sense! Tannins are the chemical that dries your mouth in black tea or in red wine. I can taste them too! I can't drink black tea or coffee at all and can never taste all the notes and stuff in wine.

I always love the blackboard drawings in these videos!

I’m not saying the editing is bad I’m just saying you don’t need to have a camera cut every 3 seconds. I counted
Edit: it has come to my attention that these cuts are likely a way for the editors to take out a lot of vocal pauses. While that makes for a great audio flow, it really is visually distracting, and perhaps there was a happy medium between taking all of them out and leaving all of them in.
Nathan Ward can’t stop noticing it since reading this
Oh my gosh, now I'm trapped counting this as well! Now it's making me dizzy too.
I'm so dizzy!
They're not camera cuts. The audio clearly is cut too. They're likely disguising "uh"s and other pauses to keep video length down.
@@MisterNohbdy okay. I'm obviously not a film editor. Do they have to swap angles when they do that? It's the flipping around of perspective that kind of makes it challenging to watch. Or is it just too weird to cut out those extra words with the cameras still facing the same direction?

Check out my 21 Days to Wine series. Episode 1 of the series is an 'Introduction to Wine Tasting'-- Let me know what you think!
I appreciate that she took the time to teach techniques for opening and appreciating the wine, rather than just answering the question on which is more expensive.
Who knew they canned wine?
Now I can drink with the boys without being judged!!
You are not judging the boys back? Boys generally don't know about things.
Drinking wine out of a can is not going to be the best experience. Wine really needs to breathe to develop its aromas, ideally in a wine glass.
if the boys ever call you out for loving wine, just tell them to keep their watery 5% ABV beer while you pound down a rich 13% syrah lmao
@@fakecubed Shush, the real expert in the video said it was fun and so it is.
I've had canned wine and it's really not bad. It's surprisingly enjoyable and super convenient. Some brands are better than others, so you'll be charged with the fun task of finding the one you like best. But other than that, it's cheap, it's tasty, and can be pretty refreshing sometimes, too!

I normally think wine experts are bunk but she's definitely doing a great job convincing me otherwise. I wonder if she'd fall for the dyed white wine experiment/trick a study did.
She's a sommelier, where it's one of the hardest test to pass to become one
That study in itself was “bunk.” The second trial prompted the students (not experts btw) to rate the wines using descriptors typical for red
to the red and white to the white. Definitely not unbiased. Hell the manuscript wasn’t even totally published, that should tell you something right there. And his sample size was extremely small and only covered a narrow group of people. He had no controls... in short, that study was a mess. Cool to talk about though I guess.
I too want to keep a can of wine in my purse at all times....this lady is my icon now.
I love how passionately she speaks. She's very well spoken and charming!!
I really wish they would tell you what each was at least in the description. I want to try that rosé!

Marie DeG what’s a good cheap Rosé?

Me judging the red wines: this one is the cheaper one because it comes in a can. 😅
I love that she didn't put down the less expensive wines, but classified them by when you'd be drinking them. She's so informative!
Very informative & well delivered critics. Belinda made an excellent host for this episode. Please bring her back!!!
This is the kind of girl you just want around you all the time. Great expert.
"Canned wine is a super fun thing."
I almost believed she meant that lol
What a charming presenter you are, Belinda! You are as entertaining as your are informative. Just amazing!
