I just fill them up. There's no pattern to it. Some of them I've stopped filling because they're more broken down, others are just starting :)

I see you have those black trellis, what do you have climb on them? Are they strong enough for gourds or winter squash? TIA

I've had beans, spaghetti squash, and tomatoes on them... with out wind they tend to tilt over a little but they were fine
