Great video many thanks. Got this same Diani seat form Screwfix. Useful tip to cut off the bolt conduits as I was also struggling to push them thru the holes.
Thanks Helen. Yes, the instructions could be clearer or put another way, less confusing. It doesn't help that you have to figure it out on your knees! b33zo
Thank you so much for the tip re cutting the plastic fitting in two-I struggled for ages trying to get it through the tiny hole. Once cut in two it was plain sailing!! Thank you😀
Just tried to install a new seat had the problem with the plugs not going through the existing pedestal, thanks for the video saved a trip back to the supplier.
Thanks very much for showing the use of the button at 14:02. I don't recollect this from the instructions and I had spent ages trying to remove the seat to give it a clean up and a reseating.
A brilliant video that helped me tremendously. I too had to cut the plastic thing in half in order to use it. I must say however that a bit about getting the front of the seat in the right position in relation to the front of the toilet pan would be helpful. I thought I’d finished the job only to find that I had to start again so that the seat protruded over the front of the pan. That involved quite a bit of fiddling and swearing. Not a good idea to do it on a very hot day either 🙄
Thanks for watching Hilary and for your kind remarks. We've had to do things twice sometimes - wiring a new electrical plug then realizing the cable goes through through the top half first is my favorite. Hope the swearing has died down now and your knees are better...Best wishes b33zo
Thanks Lynda. I think cutting the part into two halves should be the default method - maybe they forgot to say that in the (translated) instructions? b33zo
0:48 Thanks a million, you saved my sanity and domestic reputation- just about to cut those pegs but thought I’d check with You tube and there you were! Cheers, Matt rodger
Ha thanks for watching Matt. Your reputation (DIY) is intact. From the remarks here you're not alone. The installation instructions were fairly useless. ATB b33zo
Very helpful could not make head nor tail of the instructions, would have cracked up when the plastic plugs would not go through the holes, good tip to cut the bottom off. Who writes the instructions for stuff like this! done it though with your help.
Thanks for watching John. There's something 'one size fits all' about the instructions. In the end the fittings that came off the old seat would have probably done the job anyway. ATB b33zo
Thank you for the video. I love my new toilet seat its very good quality. But l couldn't get the seat to sit flush with the toilet bowl. I tried adjusting it so many times but it still hangs over just a bit but l'll get used to it.
Thanks for watching Victoria. I just checked and my one overhangs all round by about 7mm. WC pans seem to come in many shapes so unless you go for a Roca pan that comes with its own branded seat I guess a random seat from B&Q is unlikely to fit perfectly. b33zo
Hi, thank you for your really useful video. We've fitted the toilet seat according to the instructions but the lid is still wobbly. It obviously needs to open and close but it actually moves sideways too by a few mm and I'm sure it's not supposed to do that. Any ideas or should we take it back? Thanks for your support.
Thanks for watching Erika. The seat mechanism has a tiny bit of play in it to function properly but it sounds as if you might have the studs too far apart. Sorry to say but if you loosen the nuts (yes I know its a pain in the knees) you might be able to rotate the round silver caps and get the studs closer together. This should stop the seat slopping about. Good luck. b33zo
I had the exact opposite problem fitting mine, in that the nylon plugs were loose in the holes in the pan - they went in easily but just popped out again on their own when without any pressure, making it nearly impossible to line the seat up with the pan as per the instructions. In the end I just about got it right by trial and error, but really I would like the whole seat about half an inch further forward, but the clamps are already as far forward as they will go. Easy to fit, my ar$e!
@@b33zo Haha yes, that's exactly it. This is the first time the instructions have led me to believe that the product was faulty. (I hope this sentence is correct, I am French)
@@b33zo well in general i find toilet seats wobbly, stupid design, etc, but this one is actually good as soft closing and by a push of a button could be removed for cleaning. Those plastic holders things i fitted correctly now (thank you to your video!), it is absolutely solid now.
i managed to do it without cutting it. i put the bolt in to help me push one down the other one was a lil more difficult so i sanded a lil bit off the side then put some lubrication and tapped it in
Thanks for watching TM. Yes that sounds like an option. Ideally I like to keep hammers as far away from china fittings as possible. It's a pity that in many cases the supplied fitting are so difficult to use. ATB b33zo
The white nut doesn’t go through the hole it just sits underneath and snugs up when the screw is tightened. You just need to offer up the lower half to make initial contact. This seat only fits onto flat level toilets not scooped bowl tops.
Thanks for watching. Sorry to say but I believe you will have to go back and redo you work making sure each component is in the correct order. This is a secure fix. b33zo
Hi just bought one of these seats still have to fit it good vidio hope it works for me but still have to get the old one off with loads of fiddly screws whats the point of all the old screws thanks
Hi Maureen thanks for watching. First tip: get something soft to kneel on. You could spend more time on your knees than you anticipate. Secondly the difficult stuff is underneath the pan so a mirror comes in handy to give you an idea of what you're dealing with. Good luck. b33zo
Got one from B&Q, only three sizes to choose from so picked 'standard size'. Got home, first problem was the plastic lugs, didnt fit like man said so cut in half, after an hour we were still struggling - thinking we had done it, sat down to test stability and the seat came popping out of the fittings. Discovered 'standard' was not actually standard, it was slightly bigger so overlapped over the pan - maybe in China its standard but be advised to measure your old seat before you buy a new one. Too late to take it back as the plastic lugs were cut in two so despite all the great instructions it was a total waste of money
Thanks for watching Sheila. Sorry for your trouble. When I purchased mine I didn't check size so guess I was lucky there. I thing the one-size-fits-all lugs and the different diameter holes in the pan are most of the problem. I you haven't thrown away your old parts you may be able to adapt them to the new seat. At least you know they fit. Just a suggestion. b33zo
I have a doubt, those black lace are adjustable to a certain maximum of inches. Example if a toilet has 10 inches of hole distance, are there those black sockets (where the screws go) that can be adjusted to that distance or are they always predetermined to the exact distance of the seat that they come with when you buy it? It's that my seat is discontinued and I can't find it anywhere, I want to adapt one to it regardless of whether it is 100% compatible, but the problem I find is that the hole distance of my toilet is 10 inches (24 cm), and no I find no seat with that measurement between the holes, and I was wondering if there are those black lace that you installed, but that can adapt to that distance. Excuse my English, I'm from France.
Thanks for watching Skins. Those 'pegs' or 'struts' are VERY adjustable by rotating to the left or right and will fit many designs of WC seat. Good luck b33zo
