I doubt this video means anything to anyone who's not from a certain demographic from a certain part of south-east Queensland, but I'm glad it's here for all to see. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, the comments say it all.
Lived through Joh’s reign of oppression demonstrated at SEQEB strikes and ran from the Johnny Hoppers more than once after dog squad raids on parties looking for drugs Ah Queensland beautiful one day A hotbed of crime and political corruption the next
Even the tonal centre of this song leans to the left! love it!! raw, nostalgic, unable to ever be covered because Tony Kneipp will never be able to bring back that moment nor any of the improvised feel of it. thanks for posting with the great old footage of Brisbane when it seemed to rain more and the smell of mud pervaded the Valley and West end, making the term 'swampies' perfect for the blackclad crewcut crowd.
Theyre all scum but you're a fuckin clown with that statement. Sir Joe is from the sticks and as hillbilly and national party as it gets. 4zzz is now in the building the Queensland communist party head quarters were and Peter beatie was the leader fighting against them. The left back then was working class or real progressive thinking people and don't act that period, they fight that shit which is now taken over by spoilt and entitled generation of sociopaths, who only care about themselves and how theyre seen by others, hence the acting and clear misunderstanding of the issues they claim to fight for. This shit is all just manipulation by George soros and his club of p3do parasites. He pays emms wage to claim theyre blm, antifa or whatever other divisive groups he can pit us against each other by the greed of its members who claim to represent it. If you paid em to say the sky is a big swimming pool and that's why its blue and you'll pay a wage for it,!? People do a lot more extreme shit for money every day and is not even an issue or noticed, unless they want to notice
@@fratermanix sorry, was linda making a point by acting like a clown, I wasn't trying to attack you personally but what the herd mentality represents. They have an 'ism' to put on the end of everything to pit us all against each other ie: communism , socialism, capitalism, the left, the right , racism, fascism etc etc . Circa '85' Brisbane Punk.. All we wanted to do was have a good time, fuck'in cop's had a different agenda! Don't know how many times i spent in drunk tank! I seen a LOT of great bands & drank with a LOT of cool people!
Oh no, that bad huh?! The band "Trash f All Nations"(my brother Oscar was the drummer and Tony Kneipp the singer) performed "Pig City"in Melbourne in 1986, at the first ever anarchist festival, celebrating 100yrs of anarchists in Australia. Myself and at least 30 other ex-Brispain refugees got on stage to yell "Pig City!! during the performance". After having spent the prior 6 weeks in Brispain I jumped at the chance to flee to Melbourne, and ended up living with my best friend from primary and high school in Brisbane for 4 months. I found it very heart warming to be welcomed with opened arms by the many who'd experienced the police corruption and raids first hand.. P.S I spent a total of 8 months in Australia before deciding to move back to the Netherlands permanently and the contrast with cops here couldn't have been greater. However the paranoia upon sensing cops in my vicinity took several years to dissipate. Wishing you well and hoping things are getting better! 💜✌
Just remembered something from back in the day ... The police actually directed traffic around a truck unloading gaming tables for the casino at bubbles bath house. Considering what was illegal back in the day, we sure had more than a few ways to satisfy our vices. :)
Except terri of course he had a book with all the names of high profile pedophile s he tried to hand it in while he was in jail they took it straight to the government shredder and got rid of it true story unfortunately im old enough to remember this horrid chapter in my home town peace and love lloydy
Well, Terry Lewis and the ‘minister for everything’ that repulsive slug, Russ Hinze, conveniently popped his clogs before incarceration from memory. This is the only anthem I recognise for Brisbane.
Swampies were early Brisbane goths. They favoured black clothes, white make-up and big hair but also a bit more flannelette check than any European goth would display. Swampies also favoured dirge-like music that was similar to wading through an aural swamp. Making up your own sub-culture with a bit from NME, a bit from popular culture and a large slab of anarchic, anti-Joh, anti-cop, anti-everything diatribe was a very Brisbane thing in that period. Swampies forever.
Don't know why we're talking about Swampies. Swampies are not punks. (Also, while we're talking about it some people confuse ACDC with punk but ACDC are Bevens not punks.) Swampies are like 'softcore' goths, and yes, wearing a lot of paisley, like the Hoodoo Gurus: ruclips.net/video/oNNHEZzBDZk/видео.html . Thanks for posting this clip. Quintessential Brisbane.
I'm sure there was some crossover but flannies in my experience were the preserve of bevans; the uniform of whom was flannies, stone washed jeans and ugg boots, although that may have been a later 80s version. Always amuses me now, living in the UK, to see posh girls walking down the street in ugg boots.
@@twistedmindsex I think he's referring to that trend started by Malcolm McLaren, getting the Sex Pistols to wear the Queens official Tartan (the red one) but adding diagonal zips & ripping holes in it etc to subvert the flavour - people were wearing tartan here in the punk scene possibly unaware of the origin reason..
I was taught by the bloke who was his campaign manager Joe Syracuse, a lecturer at UQ in American history. He was a brilliant lecturer but clearly a tool.
In my view this will always be the State Anthem for Queensland till the day i die.
Love this song... I grew up in brisbland in the Joh era!
Always was and always will be PIG CITY
This song is a foundation stone of Queensland! Thank you 4zzz for every thing you did, to promote this incredibly important anthem.

The not so funny thing was that neither Goss nor the Fitzgerald Enquiry jailed a single member of the various arms of Joh's secret police
