The Black Assassins were an 1980s Brisbane, Australia punk band and sworn opponents of Queensland's National Party government led by "Jackboot" Joh Bjelke-Petersen. The video clip contains footage from the 1986 Queensland state election which Joh won handsomely only to fall from office and face criminal charges following the Fitzgerald Inquiry into police and political corruption.

Oh no, that bad huh?! The band "Trash f All Nations"(my brother Oscar was the drummer and Tony Kneipp the singer) performed "Pig City"in Melbourne in 1986, at the first ever anarchist festival, celebrating 100yrs of anarchists in Australia. Myself and at least 30 other ex-Brispain refugees got on stage to yell "Pig City!! during the performance". After having spent the prior 6 weeks in Brispain I jumped at the chance to flee to Melbourne, and ended up living with my best friend from primary and high school in Brisbane for 4 months. I found it very heart warming to be welcomed with opened arms by the many who'd experienced the police corruption and raids first hand.. P.S I spent a total of 8 months in Australia before deciding to move back to the Netherlands permanently and the contrast with cops here couldn't have been greater. However the paranoia upon sensing cops in my vicinity took several years to dissipate. Wishing you well and hoping things are getting better! 💜✌

Just remembered something from back in the day ... The police actually directed traffic around a truck unloading gaming tables for the casino at bubbles bath house. Considering what was illegal back in the day, we sure had more than a few ways to satisfy our vices. :)

Mad It depends on how we measure it. Sure some things may have improved, much has got worse also. I probably am looking back with "nostalgia" that tints my memories, but I personally felt more "free" back then. No matter how bad cops were back then, they didn't have the powers they do now. We now have detention without charge, secret court proceedings, no right to silence, anti association laws, we cant ride a bike without a helmet. The only thing that changed my friend was that you got older and are no longer the demographic that is targeted. I believe 17-25 year old males today wouldn't agree with you, governments havent passed laws making anyone more "free" that's for sure. Where did that "right to strike" disappear to? Joe might have declared state of emergency, sacked the seqeb workers and hired contract lines men, but he never criminalised the workers.
