    So Tom Hanks gets the Medal of Freedom for pretending to be other people but Ed Snowden gets F'd in the A for actually trying to keep people free.

      @@hannahg8439 I understand what you're saying, but it's missing the point imo. The presidential medal of freedom is (at least in theory) awarded as the highest civilian honor for having contributed to the enrichment and improvement of the US or performing any other service deemed worthy of honouring. I'm not saying Hanks does the same thing Snowdon does, but that you should judge them on their own merits. If I rated Snowden as an actor and his ability to entertain and touch the hearts of people all around the globe as well as contributing to the creation of great works of culture, he probably wouldn't recieve a medal compared to Hanks. Now that's obviously hyperbole (I don't need to point out how Snowden has impact people worldwide), but I simply mean to indicate that it is rather weird to debate who deserves it more when they could both easily have one.

      Maybe I would consider him a hero if he only exposed documents to the American people containing the fact that the government was spying on their citizens. Which Im sure everyone already knew. But instead he ended up giving that information and many more important documents to the Russian government of all people! People who say he was a hero have no knowledge of what actually happened they just believe the fake news they read and follow their role models on T.V. I have to say the reason why I believe Snowden is a traitor is the manner he did it not what he exposed. If I were him I would of done something smart and thought about what I was going to do first. Such as seeking out members of Congress who may hold sympathy/agree to what Im saying. I would build up a case and bring it up to the Supreme court. Instead unthinkingly he took the information and went to Russia. "If they truly believe in the righteousness of their cause, they’ll be confident enough that the American people will ultimately come to appreciate their actions and they’ll be pardoned. Snowden’s flight to Hong Kong and then Moscow showed he wasn’t willing to suffer the consequences for his actions, calling into question how much he believed in his cause." thediplomat.com/2013/12/yes-edward-snowden-is-a-traitor/ .If you can explain to me how he isn't a traitor or stupid i'm open to discussion.

      @chinaN1 Masashi Build up a case? While the USA likes to lead the so called fight for freedom its been proven more than once that it only likes freedom when it benefits their interests. He wouldn't have a chance in the US. That having said, the real problem here is that our politicians in Europe didn't have the balls to fight the US politics in this case. I still believe that we in Europe should've given Snowden asylum and we should've kept him safe until a case would've been a viable option. Especially since Europe was on the short end of the stick as well. Russia was there to offer the asylum when the EU failed to do so and for that i am ashamed. We literally decided money and perception is more important than values and that is never a good thing. i love Americans, well most of them, but i'd like to think that when values are concerned, it triumphs over friendships and trade deals. We didn't have to declare war on the US, all we had to do was stand our ground for what most of us believe in. When we fail to do so, other countries will reap the benefits. In this case it was Russia, but Ecuador kinda did the same. Is he the traitor or are we in the Western countries the ones who betrayed him?

    • @samuelintag7507
      @samuelintag7507 6 лет назад

      I would agree in that he should have a fair trial even though it is evident that he committed treasonous acts to the people of America. Although I don't see how this disapproves my opinion as to why Snowden should be in jail or not. You also say that The US likes to lead the so-called fight for freedom even though it has almost no correlation with this subject of discussion. I would agree with you, in that, we as a early developing nation do have a lot of things that need to be improved. One is the fight for freedom for all people. We are most definitely not perfect. With that being said I tend to believe we are freer(if thats a word) than most other countries especially Russia where protesting is met with police and a stern hand. I also for one don't think Europe wants to fight Us politics because they don't have the "balls". I would infer that they are allies and value our help against Russia. The Cold war hasn't ended it just died down if you didn't know.

That includes seeing the big picture and realizing both the good and bad of what Snowden did. I think he put the NSA and global surveillance in check at an important time it its development before it got too overreaching, but it also put US operatives abroad at risk and violated the Espionage Act of 1917, both very serious crimes. We can argue over whether what he did was beneficial in the long run until we go blue in the face, but pardoning would set a very dangerous precedent. I admire his sacrifice, but also recognize that pardoning him would be a horrible mistake.

      Well, Mr. Trump, the problem they're in is that if their spying did prevent a terrorist attack, they would be unable to let the public know due to it being classified. So it could have stopped hundreds of terrorist attacks or no terrorist attacks. We have no way of knowing. And again, I DO think what Snowden did was beneficial to some extent. He just shouldn't be pardoned.

      ChinaN1 Masashi He only revealed to the world with the journalists about the spying but kept info that is more crucial to national security out of the media. I can see you are firm on your views. I too once thought he might have had good intentions but still revealed too much info that was confidential and is therefore a traitor but once I heard his side of the story from interviews and yes the movie it helps you to see that he is a true patriot and one that did what he thought was right for everyone. He is a smart man to have planned it out to reach a safe place to reveal the info with trusted credible professionals. This country had movements and wars over fighting for rights that should be self-evident and protected as well as other famous movements like with Ghandi. The laws at the time might have cited that those that fought were criminals in some way but the fact of the matter is because they fought many began to realize those laws were wrong and needed to be either annulled or amended.

    Much respect to Joe Gordon for stepping up and playing this part!!
    He should be nominated for the Oscars and all of the above and on a personal note I respect him as an actor just seeing the fact that he stepped up to this role when most of their Hollywood actors would have declined

    I wonder why women, especially in such important talk presentations, have to be half naked? Isn't there a time and circumstances for this way of dressing? Why are the three males not half naked? In this way women are never taken seriously in discussions like these.

    To be fair Ed Snowden did do the right thing in the view of the people but he willingly said that he was committing the crime of espionage twice and a charge of Theft of government property which could jeopardise government projects. Another point worth noting is that Ed used an unauthorised program out of jealousy. I do support him to the fullest but just something to think about...

    • @thedunyadoneya2628
      @thedunyadoneya2628 3 года назад

      @@fukun5773 wrong. The fact that criminal behaviour (which, btw, is EXACTLY what it is) can be covered up under the tag of "national security" and you can't be exposed for it just shows the country is being run as a sham. Do you even know what snowden has revealed?
      According to your logic, fritzl shouldn't have been prosecuted as his crime was for what he considered the security of his family. You can LITERALLY be prosecuted for acting like this if you were a dispensable employee of the government, and as much is written in your contract as a regulatory clause. But somehow this is national security now?

    LOL "Lucky to live in a place where we can have these kinds of conversations." I love Joseph as an actor, but it's pretty naive to think that. You may not always get tortured by the CIA. Sometimes you just get lucky enough to get demonetized or smeared as a foreign agent for speaking the truth.
