First time seeing a live video of BAND MAID, amazing stuff! plus this song has some really interesting changes experimenting with many musical genres, they sound so tight and with so much energy that I hope I can see them live someday!

I agree with the bass tone, it´s sad it is a little bit too low... But you still can hear it, so it´s fine. You should watch the actual MV on their channel (on your own, you don´t need a reaction for this one), but just to see how much they added to the song. The whole "solo section" for each instrument isn´t on the studioversion, they added it for their liveshow, just the really short solo from Kanami in the end is there, nothing else... And they do such things A LOT! That´s one of many reasons they are much better LIVE! Greetings from Germany...
P.S.: Kanami has a PRS Guitar, that´s right and Miku´s guitar is a Zemaitis... James Hetfield from Metallica is using them also f.e.

Enjoyed your reaction to Band-Maid! They are great live! What Band-Maid often does in their live performances is add things to some of their song that aren’t in the studio versions. In this song the whole middle part with the bass solo, guitar duel and short drum solo is not in the studio version of this song. This is what’s fun about this band! I agree with you that the bass and guitar are not loud enough in the mix. While this live performance has a great overall sound, the guitar and bass needed to be more prominent which is a shame because Misa’s much an awesome bass player. They have some live performances from 2018 where you can hear the individual instruments much better. These are also on their youtube channel. A proposito, mi esposa es de Medellín, Colombia! That kind of things just make me want to listen to the studio version of a song and after that a love version haha, or just make me want to see them live so badly.

Thank you! I try to catch everything that I can on my first listen, there are sometimes that there are some details that I get after hearing the song a few times.
@@Temporal72 Before making any conclusions on any Band-Maid song, I suggest listening to it seven times. The first time just to get an overall first impression (This is usually enough for Reactors). Then five more times listening carefully to each player: their parts, their sound, their integration into the song and with others. Then read the lyrics, if available. Finally, crank it up one last time (at least) to experience the song as the creators intended. THEN... make a judgment or comments.
I have found that because Band-Maid songs are pretty dense (or content rich), it takes many listens for me to love and appreciate just what the hell they're doing and how surprising and satisfying their writing and playing is. This band of incredibility creative and talented women can produce immediate rock-out fun at will. After Life or Warning, for example. But they also bring a level of sophistication and freshness we haven't heard since RUSH and a small handful of other supergroups. And that's a major part of their diabolical plan that will, imo, bring them true world domination.
Oh man...now you NEED 'Freedom' (same concert). And then...you REALLY NEED 'Onset' Live...you'll have satisfaction, that's all I'll say. Good Reacting :-)

yes on the description of bm's sound, and no on the cookie cutter approach in particular to this song. mincho self-plagiarized her solos in 'spirit' and 'secret my lips' and used them in 'domination. but am not complaining.

All the transitions that I've heard until now have been amazing!
Good news is that they actually mentioned they would love to tour to South America, although they’ve mentioned only Brazil by name. Another good news is that you can actually watch them live via livestream concert on 11 Feb. highly recommend in this period with no actual live audience concerts. Their concerts are awesome and their personalities and stage antics add another layer to the fun. Plus guaranteed more than 20 songs.

Usually I can hear Misa's bass clearer than Kanami's guitar.
I've always wished the guitar sound was a bit louder but the audio could be better. Sounds a bit muffled? I've watched the other live footages but the sound quality was a lot better and could hear all instruments pretty clearly. The videos from shinkiba studio coast live are great.
Yeaaah I was comparing this sound to the one of Puzzle that I recently did and the sound was more balanced in that aspect

kanami's [ld gtr/composer] squeal wasn't in the studio version; she did a two-string bend in that short measure though. she's the master behind the structure of their songs.
saiki [main vo] has great control of her vocal fry and head voice. she wasn't the original vocalist; miku was. it turned out in their initial setup that her [miku's] voice was a bit soft and lacked the edge, so they asked saiki to come on board. the rest is history.
reactor's reaction: that's what we all want to see -- how professional musicians feel about upon hearing the band and watching them perform. and the 'i liked it, but towards the end i loved it' or 'this is my new favorite' lines have been the norm. won't be surprised if you end up saying it as well later as you dig their music further.
misa [bass, alcohol lover] has an immense and unique sound [some call it the perfect bass tone, including me], but your observation was correct. the mix on her part was a bit lower compared to their zepp tokyo show. but overall, the post-prod is comparatively way better than other groups' live performances. additional note: she's the only bassist i could think of who uses pick and slap-and-pop style in the same musical piece.
little pigeon's [miku kobato, rhy gtr/2vo/founder/lyricist] axe is a zemaitis. she has three of them, a flying v and a couple les paul style. she's the mad doctor behind this five-headed monster. there was one ep where she changed the lyrics of their songs to a local dialect. check out band-maiko.
akane [gorilla] is the beast behind the kit. there was one instance in one of their gigs where she took her bottle of water to sip while playing, then sent one of her sticks flying, but managed to continue -- without missing a beat. hearing her machine gun double kicks is a real delight. her performance highlight: 'freedom' live, from this same show.
true to fact, they're tight, creative, and fun to see perform live. you'll find certain formulas in their songwriting, but that don't diminish the quality of their songs. they're geniuses at their respective roles. it's a real blessing to see them in our time, if i could borrow that from one of their followers.

she endorses sapporo, but i think she's more of a whiskey drinker than of beer, though in their european gig she professed to their audience her love for german beer.

@@Temporal72 Yeah the YT algorithm seems to encourage starter reactors to grow their channels by letting them show almost anything until they get to 1K subs. Once you're in the YT partnership that's when reactors find they're flies caught in a big web & you hope the YT spider doesn't come after you. Not trying to discourage you or anything. Lol

The sound quality from this concert is the biggest issue and a lot of people bring it up. It's unfortunate because this is a great version of this song, just wasn't mixed well. Not sure if its just in the DVD or if it was present in the live performance.
The weird thing is that Kanami's sound varies a little bit between the first solo and the last one, maybe she used a booster pedal, but idk, yeaaah it's a shame because it sounds amazing
Regarding the mix, I think they did it on purpose. At this concert they wanted to capture more of the crowd's interactions and as a result they had to sacrifice the audio quality. Their previous concerts were fine.

among fans, this is LIVE version is famous for that solo-feature parade! the original track has the bass part and the last guitar part then the vocalist onwards(whole middle part was fan-service for the LIVE). its the little things like that, that keep fans as fans, and grab new listeners to become new fans ;) oh, and on the original version Misa's Bass is a LOT louder so you can hear it more clearly.
I have to hear the studio version, but that middle instrumental section was raw power!!

Miku falling off the bandstand after her challenge to her guitar senpai, Kanami, gets me every single time. Miku, by her own admission, is very clumsy on-stage...and, she has the bruises to prove it.

Enjoyed your analysis very much. Thank you. If you like interesting structures, try “No God” (#2 song in their latest album). Also, to discover different sides of Band Maid, I recommend “Day Dreaming,” “Page,” even “Dice,” and “On-Set “ (live)that is instrumental.
I think the next one that I want to hear is a ballad haha, to check a different color of their sound, but I'm adding all the songs that y'all are suggesting to the reactions list
Then go for Day Dreaming. It is a great ballad. Page is another mellow one. It is not reviewed frequently, though. I like them both.
The LINE Cube Shibya concert is barely acceptable by BAND-MAID standards. The Studio Coast and Zepp Tokyo LIVE concerts have Direct-From-The-Board Sound. Shibya they put out room mics to pick up the crowd. which is fine. But it's very ambient and leaves a lot to be desired on the clarity, in the mids and especially in the low mids. Very Boomy.
Ohh ok, if they wanted to capture the sound of the crowd sacrificing some sound of the band that makes sense

This was song #22 of a 23 song, 2+ hour performance, with the song "Play" at 21!!! Miku(band founder, rhythm guitar, 2nd vocals) didn't even play guitar in the beginning, she was the lead singer(it was a 4 piece band) after playing a few songs, she felt her voice wasn't right for the music they were doing(she's actually a good singer, more pop sound. There are a couple of Miku only songs, the latest is Sayonakidori off their new album) and then found Saiki to do lead/twin vocals. It was decided that she would "hold" the guitar, so Kanami(lead guitar, composer) started teaching her. In their first video "Trill", she's literally just holding the guitar. It just shows the unselfish nature and hard work of these young ladies for the betterment of the band and their ultimate dream, World Domination!!! As I mentioned before, Puzzle, Play, Onset(instrumental), or Daydreaming should be next, unless they release a new video 🙏 Great reaction, nice to see a Maidiac in the making!!!👍👍🤘🤘🤘

@@Temporal72 Actually no, she really didn't even want to play the guitar! She literally has learned on the job with her sensei Kanami pushing her forward. After some hard work(she didn't enjoy it in the beginning) and a couple of years, Zemaitis started their endorsement which was a milestone for her, she felt it an instrument a "proper" guitarist should play.

I'm sorry, I don't know Portuguese, but what I understood is that they mix some cool genres and the next one should be Daydreaming :)
I was also a little upset with the mix on this concert compared to their earlier concerts that were filmed. Still, it isn't shabby because Band Maid is that good.

It's amazing how they have us 'leaning' one way while they play and then they throw us off by going in a different direction. I found them late February last year and now have all their works. They now share my Deep Purple shelf hehe. Great Reaction!

Really dig your reaction/review and nice to hear your breakdown as a musician. I feel the composition and arrangement of their songs can be quite complex but they make it sound easy, which is such a compliment. I agree with your point about leaving spaces in the music, lets it breathe a little, they do this in a lot of their work. I would recommend you react to Onset and Rinne, two absolute bangers. Keep up the good work!
Yeaaah, what you are saying is actually really hard to do haha, if you don't know how to add complex elements to your music it sounds chopped, or if there was something missing, or maybe that you are adding too much information for the listener, and that is not good.

The Band Maid audience is very savvy and know their parts well. They know when and when not so take part, very fun to watch and listen to. Also I agree about the low volume sound, the whole DVD of this concert is like that, not sure why but I am sure there was a reason.
That is stunning! I hope one day I can communicate with the audience with my band in some future, feeling that kind of response while you are playing live must be amazing!

@@Temporal72 PRS are good guitars ... but for me a bit overpriced, a bit overrated and very snobbish. But about Kanami and PRS it gets emotional for me, she used to play AddicTone, a beautiful micro brand of Japanese luthier guitars, a marriage made in heaven😍... until PRS came with the all-mighty dollar and stole her😠. But besides that I'm a superstrats fan: ESP, Ibanez, Suhr, Killer, Anderson or the new Vola brand guitars look incredible.😎👍
