    I don't think Tom Cruise ACTUALLY wanted to have the prank explained. I'm pretty sure he was asking "Why would you do that?" rhetorically in an attempt to make the prankster feel awkward.

    • @jonnyvelocity
      @jonnyvelocity 9 лет назад +44

      Honey Senpai Yes. It's not necessarily explaining why pranks are funny but why that guy thinks that prank is funny. A guy who reportedly is very accommodating to his many fans on the red carpet (Cruise) wasn't to know why someone would take that opportunity to try and shame him publicly. Pranks are usually better when there's an initial relationship. That guy's a stranger.

    • @troyroebuck36
      @troyroebuck36 9 лет назад +36

      Jonny Velocity Totally. Plus Cruise needs to look his best with cameras pointed at him from all angles, and he's rushed through this stuff, like one of those flogging tunnels or whatever, and this dude pulls an idiotic "prank". Really it's just ""let's fuck with this person we don't know in a high stress environment at a *very* improper moment on purpose just to get his completely sane reaction". He wanted him to get that it's not funny whatsoever and really let how stupid it all is soak in on the guy while he stands there. He held his hands to make sure he stayed and looked him directly in the eye so the guy really came to his *own* realization that "Wow.. this is really stupid and there's no reason why this should be funny at all... I've got nothing to respond with". And I'm sure the fact that this busy celebrity completely stopped, those with him and whatever, even though he's got places to be, to really get the message clear to the guy that his actions were very distasteful, even for plain old immature humour, *really* just all put a weight of shame on him. You could definitely feel it just watching that clip and hearing no response from him. The prankster is completely embarrassed of the actions *he's* done, and Tom Cruise handled it in a *very* mature, smart, and completely sane reaction.

      ***** the majority of "pranks" are just let's try to make a person feel bad or get hurt. It's funny to a 10 year old maybe but otherwise it just seems dumb to me.

      tenmaruhakuchou There is a difference in pranking someone to look dumb (like a joke they aren't getting until the very end), and hitting them in the face unexpectedly with water/pie/whatever.. the water gun that hit tom cruise was an asshole thing to do, it took 0 preparation and effort. but if that reporter would have made a scheme up like on Punk'd then yeah.. that is in good fun, not really a asshole thing to do

  • @nathanbarnhart7823

    Idk I thought Tom Cruise's response to being squirted (with water?) was likely the most effective way to confront him. He didn't yell or scream, he treated him like a child. That said he's a fucking weirdo. A talented weirdo that makes good movies.

    • @BHALT0S
      @BHALT0S 7 лет назад

      would have even funnier if the prankster was a fucking loon, and as tom pulled his hand to be closer and asks why he did that, the prankster would be like... so I can get close enough to stab your eyeball out with this here dull knife... and then adds the words... ya wee fanny.

    • @katherinecruz3849
      @katherinecruz3849 7 лет назад +13

      I agree with the way Tom Cruise confronted the "prankster." Cracked thinks it should have been left as a prank; no further discussion necessary. But pranks are generally stupid and that grown man should have had to explain why he thought it was a good idea to squirt Tom Cruise in the face. Embarrass the embarrasser.
      I think Cracked struggled to make the numbers on this one.

    Great video, but you got two things wrong:
    1. Bruce Willis can like, dislike, or mispronounce any movie he wants. He's Bruce Willis and gets a lifetime pass for Die Hard.
    2. Tom Cruise knows how to dance surprisingly well. Or at least Les Grossman (the character he plays in Tropic Thunder) does.

    • @BingBangPoe
      @BingBangPoe 10 лет назад +13

      1. No, he can't. Just because he was part of a (super exaggerated) action movie franchise, doesn't mean he can simply avoid questions and screw up an interview.
      2. His "dancing" in Tropic Thunder was almost the same crap as he did in that clip, only with a few more ass-shaking which was (a bit) funny because of his make-up.

    2:28 Bruce is “shockingly out of touch with reality” just because he couldn't identify a foreign animated movie about Japanese spirits, goblins and fairies? Someone is out of touch with reality alright. And it ain't Bruce.
    2:10 This one is really funny. “Look at me. I'm so culturally superior + edgy because I can say Hayao Miyazaki without tripping up”. Puh-lease!

      +The Black Johnny Gat I believe that was the point of Bruce bringing it up. As in, it was nicer than saying "Why the fuck are you bringing up animated titles? This is a press junket about our movie RED2. Ask questions about the movie, get a few good shots of you talking to us, and then we can wrap it up and go do what we actually want to do." That was the same junket where he got completely obstinate with another interviewer who he thought was beating around the bush.

    I don't see how Tom Cruise is out of touch. he could've hit the guy but instead he confronts him calmly and tries to make him explain why he would do that. he handled it well I thought. also it looked like he was trying to dance like elvis Presley with the leg shake thing. he did it bad but it wasn't out of touch, just a bad impression.

      @@bodenlosedosenhose1590 Tom Cruise is an alright guy. He once witnessed a purse snatching. Some young punk grabbed an elderly lady's purse, and Cruise chased him down, caught him, and returned the woman's purse. That's a stand up guy in my book.

    • @ragnar97
      @ragnar97 9 лет назад +16

      zerozell I've never read what they write and based on this video (being the first thing I see from them) I'm not so sure I will.
      1- I don't know about the tarantino stuff but for him to be out of touch, the "not knowing how to talk to black people" would have to happen all the time and they only showed one example.
      2- Same for Bruce Willis, there was only one example, plus he usually trolls in most of his interviews so his answers on that video may have been well thought to troll the interviewer and even if he wasn't, not watching japanese cinema/anime is not really being out of touch or not knowing basic things.
      3- The reality star. Not being able to tell time just means you're stupid, not out of touch. The only reason cracked thinks he is is because, to paraphrase him, he's hot in a nation of uglies, so he's obviously been cuddled by
      everyone all his life. The guy almost can't even speak making sense but the reason is he is hot ¬¬
      4. Ryan Lochte is just stupid, that doesn't mean he's out of touch, same as the previous guy.
      5- Tom cruise is well known for pranking and his sense of humor (granted not on every subject) but anyone would be pissed if they dressed up for whatever event and some halfwit journalist sprayed you with whatever. Pranks are usually by people you at least are acquainted with, not a random journalist.
      Plus considering the title is "7 famous people who are shockingly out of touch" and then they pull a switcharoo and it turns into "6 famous people who don't know basic things about reality" well....yeah...

      Rav Enj Out of touch means the reality you live in is not the same as the rest. Not knowing how to tie your shoes or tell time doesn't make you live in a different reality. Not putting up with a prank from some random dude doesn't make you live in a different reality. Being somewhat racist when talking to certain people doesn't mean you live in a different reality.
      Thinking there's an alien conspiracy, half the people in the world are bodysnatchers and live accordingly, that would be being out of touch because that's not the real world.
      Thinking the illuminati control the world and using a tinfoil hat, that is being out of touch.
      I know technically we are both right, but when you say to someone " X is out of touch" that person will most likely understand "out of touch with reality"

    *Speaking of people who are out of touch with reality!* Here's my own little list of basic concepts which seem to elude some people:
    No 3. It seems that some cannot grasp the idea that Hayao Miyazaki's works are not universally known!
    No 2. Apparently some people are surprisingly unaware of the large amounts of beautiful people in Britain!
    No 1. Some people will interpret the act of asking "What's so funny about that?" after being sprayed in the face as an actual inquiry of what makes it funny, and not as a way of calling out the other person's childish behavior.

      I agree. Bruce Willis really seemed like quite a normal guy. A lot of people like documentaries and watch a lot of them. They may not remember the exact name because a documentary isn't about the name, it's about the information that you learn. Personally, I have difficulty remembering names of things and people. But it isn't about remembering the names of things that matters when it comes to a personal understanding of the world. Search on RUclips "Richard Feynman on names" if you are interested.

      I think the worst part is how much easier it should have been to make Bruce Willis (who is a giant dickbag, and actually shows it far better in a different part of that very same interview) and Tom Cruise look out of touch.
      The swimmer guy doesn't really fit the premise because I have not a single fuckin' clue who he is, besides a guy that likes to swim. Also, insulting someone who is simple-minded but seems friendly and harmless is just a fucking dick move...
      As for Tarantino, I'm pretty sure he knows exactly what the fuck he's doing. He's probably crazy and egotistical, but out of touch with reality, he is not.

"why would you do that(be such an asshole)?"

    • @JosephJamesScott
      @JosephJamesScott 7 лет назад +14

      To put it another way, there's dozens and dozens of reporters lining a red carpet, someone like Tom could just talk to the big and well known entertainment shows, but he's talking to someone he doesn't know because he's a nice guy and wants to talk to everyone. Then he's pranked for his generosity. Most people will concede that Tom is a nice guy even if they also think he's batshit crazy. When he's being pranked he's genuinely confused as to why someone would be such an asshole while he's trying to be generous with his time. Sure it might be part of his job to talk to reporters, but he doesn't need to talk to all the reporters, and similarly if someone works at McDonald's and it's their job to serve food through the drive threw window they're going to have a similar reaction if you prank them. They're just trying to do their jobs. There's no reason to be an asshole.

      Also I totally understand Tom Cruises response to getting sprayed in the face, I would have reacted the same way if not with more aggression. That substance could have been anything (including say, acid) and that is a very real threat that celebrities face, he was doing a good thing by giving his limited time to a "journalist" only to be rudely sprayed in the face by an unknown possibly dangerous liquid. So yeah I get that.

    Tom Cruise knows what a prank is. This was just a very poor one and he turned the tables on him. He went from being the humiliated one to doing the humiliating. And in this particular instance, I support that. Spraying a celebrity in the face and then running away like a little bitch is not funny. It's cowardly and pathetic. It's a desperate act to try and provoke someone who's famous into doing something or saying something that will discredit them, simply because they're famous.
    I don't know who that sports guy you claim to be an idiot is, but so what if he's slow? So what if he really is stupid? He can't help that. Is it cool to point that out and make fun of him for that? Just because he's famous doesn't mean his flaws suddenly disappear, nor does it make it right to poke fun at him for it.

    • @Torterra625
      @Torterra625 9 лет назад +3

    • @Xylarxcode
      @Xylarxcode 9 лет назад +10

      Torterra
      In this instance his religious beliefs are irrelevant. He didn't get harassed because of his religion and no one brought it up. He was getting harassed simply because he's a famous actor.
      And why wouldn't get keep getting work? He's a damned fine actor. How would you like to get fired because you believe in a certain religion? If it doesn't affect your job, it isn't important what you believe in.

    • @Torterra625
      @Torterra625 9 лет назад +5

      Xylarxcode Yeah, see, what you just said about connecting the words "religion" and "Scientology" doesn't compute.
      Now the words "scheme," "scam" or "cult" would fit because I have seen virtually ZERO evidence to suggest that Scientology is a functioning and legit form of "religion."
      #1. They have people PAY to learn the secrets of their teachings. I don't recall the Ten Commandments, Buddhism or any other well meaning faiths having to be purchased like a song on iTunes.
      #2. Whenever anyone tries to offer criticism or accusations against them, they go right ahead and SUE them.
      #3 Aren't you aware of how big an influence Scientology has in a good majority of the Hollywood community? You don't suppose that with the large amounts of "donations" that the "church" as gathered over the years that they didn't just prop up figures like Travolta or Cruise so that they could gain successful careers while they in turn would act as mouthpieces and mascots to whatever scheme they wanted to sell? This is the same group of people that tried to pass of the belief of the souls of aliens living in humanity as a legitimate faith! All they'd need is a famous actor to tell people it's all true and they'd be raking in cash in no time.
      I'm not going to pay for his movies because I don't feel like giving that delusional headcase, and by extension, his fruity little club ANY of my money because I'm not an idiot.

    • @Xylarxcode
      @Xylarxcode 9 лет назад +8

      Torterra
      So not the point. I don't care what Scientology does or stands for. I don't care how much of a religion or scam it is.
      I don't care how much money is involved in that or which celebrity believes in it. My original point was that Cruise, no matter what he does in his personal life, should not be getting harassed and pranked by cowards who run away at the slightest sign of trouble, simply because he's famous. His personal life has nothing to do with why he was getting harassed here. He would have still gotten harassed, even if he was a Christian or an atheist here. The harrassment itself is the problem. Not the religion (or scam, if you insist) he believes in.

    • @Torterra625
      @Torterra625 9 лет назад

      Xylarxcode It's not harassment, dude. It's CRITICISM. And people CAN in fact speak their minds about this kind of stuff without having being deemed criminals.
      The man can go do whatever he likes. I'm not sending him hateful emails or threatening him and his family. But I DO have a right to speak about how bat shit weird he acts.

    This was a waste of time. It's almost as if the people who made this video picked 6 random celebrities, went through two or three random clips of each, and then challenged themselves to see if they could write snarky "clueless" quips about them. Nearly every one of these leaves me asking, "Yeah...so _what_??"There must be countless examples which _would_ have been good choices for this video, but you didn't use _any_ of them!
    I see some other similar videos by Cracked in the related videos list. RUclips needs a button people can use to remind themselves which videos _not_ to watch.

    I have a feeling Tom Cruise was included just because they hate his Scientology thing instead of doing anything stupid in that clip.

    Funny when people are so quick to dismiss Scientology as a bogus religion, while still believing that a man can turn water into wine and that the first woman in existance was made from a man's rib.

      Scientology is bad Sci-Fi, it's own creator said it wasn't a religion, and its own history calls into reference geological locations on earth, that didn't exist back when scientology history needed them to exist.

      what is scientology i assume its the belief of science? would that not make every modern human a beliver i mean unless your religous its almost impossible that someone would discount a scientific study as if there was a question that science and religon awnserd but you said no to relgioun because your not a beliver and no to science for some reason how would you go on i my self find it incredibly hard for something to go unawnserd even if the awnser is wrong its nice to have something to fill the empty void an unawnserd question leaves a person with

    I'm glad I've seen other videos on Cracked before this.. I would have just left and never watch other videos on their channel again. I mean, saying someone is out of touch with reality is a low blow when you realize that pretty much no one he showed truly was being that stupid...
    Best one was Tom Hanks wanting to know why the water gun was funny, which honestly I don't blame him, randomly shooting a water gun is not super funny, so I would ask to see if there was a reference or something I missed.
    Bruce Willis was the worst, just because he doesn't know about a foreign movie that has multiple unrealistic attributes, does not mean he is not in touch with reality. If he hadn't watched ANY movie EVER in his life, he would still be in touch with reality, but not in touch with FICTION. He watched DOCUMENTARIES, which are REALITIES.
    Quentin Tarantino's made me mad honestly... calling someone racist because they talk different around people like that is not racist. At worst it is ignorantly/unknowingly offensive. (Which could be considered out of touch with a certain reality) I know multiple people who talk with a more southern accent around their families, then change their voice to a more avg american voice when they are around people who don't talk like that. I also know black people who will talk more avg voice around people like me, then when hanging out with other black friend they use more slang. Is this racist? Of course not! The intent could not even be framed as discrimination in ANY WAY! This would be something someone could do a social study on, but is in no way racist or evil in any way.

      JD1010101110 Wow lol, never heard of THAT. Posh, yes, but you guys seem to love her, too, so I don't know if that counts. Seems like the real consensus is that everything we know is anecdotal, and therefore meaningless. And we still pathetically drool over your accents (even Eliza Doolittle sounds fancy to most of us), so you'll always have that on your side lol :-) Living in NYC has probably ruined me for making this comparison btw - everyone here walks EVERYWHERE, and fashion matters way more than it probably should.

    I'm totally behind all of the clips except the Tom Cruise one, just because it was pretty evident he was trying to make the reporter feel awkward. He didn't not understand what a prank was, he was trying to humiliate the dude by forcing him to dissect why he thought it was funny (and making him confront that it wasn't). I actually thought it was pretty clever.

    I can't wait for cracked to come out with a video titled "X number of cracked staff members who have poor presentation skills and even poorer article content".
    He's wearing a shirt with what seems to be Mr. Rogers smiling and waving his middle finger around. Is that supposed to be funny? Like "Woah! Look at me! I wear shirts of nice guys that aren't being nice! Isn't that zany"!?
    Worthless.
