- Mookie Betts is on a hall of fame path. Luckily Mookie has been extremely durable during his career and his rookie card values show that. Unfortunately Mookie was hurt this past week and will be out a few months for the first time in his career. In this video the Spitballin' team discusses what we think about Mookie's legacy and what might happen to his baseball cards.

Mookie betts market is very unique. Most ppl don’t realize or talk about. He doesn’t get the hobby love attention he deserves bc of the lack of cards out there. He hasn’t signed anything outside of 2015. (Maybe 2016 in panini). Having said that, this also shows how undervalued his cards are, bc he only has a handful of cards/autos etc. trout, Ohtani, judge and few others have plenty of cards out there. Tons of autos etc which keeps them all relevant and also makes there top cards/autos even more desirable. Not sure if I’m explaining it right but the lack of cards hurts mookies market but also shows how undervalued his rookie and autos are.

Opens up another potential MVP for ohtani. He’s currrently the vegas favorite at +165 and Bryce Harper is his only competition.

@@SpitballinCards Ozuna might be near identical with ohtani in HR, RBI, AVG and OPS which i would be surprised if Ozuna keeps this up, but I’m not ruling it out. But if Ohtani gets the 40/40 season he’s on pace for or really close to it and the Dodgers have a much better record than atlanta, which i think is probable. It would be hard to give it to Ozuna.

Looks like the Yankees caught a huge break tonight after Judge got hit almost in the same exact spot as Mookie but they just said x-rays and CT scans both came back negative.

This comment is for chris…..start bowman prospecting ! Keeps you in that analytical baseball mindset and never chase the big guys on release. So many guys are so undervalued that have so much room to grow. And if u lose…$10 bowman autos of some nobody hurt a lot less than investing thousands into some of the stars now and losing on injuries or off the field issues. Just kind of a cheaper fun way to collect and hope for the future with some of these young international/HS guy bowman autos. I may be wrong but when trouts bowman stuff came out he wasnt a chase at all. Very lowkey prospect at that time

I agree with Chris. Its absolutely ridiculous seeing some scrub pitcher try and impress others and ends up breaking Betts' wrist. He was on my fantasy team too, so i was mad also. No excuse to hit batters. I know it happens, but you have one job to throw the ball over the plate.

I just last week bought the 1958 World Series Batting Foes in an SGC 3 as I fill out my Hank Aaron flagship collection from his Milwaukee days. Grew up with my dad telling me stories of listening to the Braves on the radio. Vintage collecting is all about sentimental value and history...and as people get older, it only makes sense people go towards vintage. I'm only in my 30s though! 😅
Chris here - I get that. Truly. When I think about what’s nostalgic for me it’s the early/mid 80’s sets with those great designs.
I’ve also always loved the 75 set design so maybe that’s a place I can start.

Half way through watching this, Judge gets plunked in the same manner as Betts and leaves the game. Can someone please rewind / Ctl Alt Delete / blow on the game cartridge that is the 2024 season and restart? Effin hell.

I know I’m a Yankees fan, but Verdugo has been amazing defensively. Last I knew he led all players with defensive WAR thus far. He’s in-line to be an all-star (along with Judge and Soto). Also, the Yankees pitching staff, especially starters, are towards the top of the stats. Excited to see Cole start!

Chris here - this is Verdugo’s 4th straight year being essentially a league average hitter, or slightly higher.
That’s the upside.
Yankees have one of thinking exciting young outfielders in the game in AAA. Plus Dominguez can play center and save judge’s body a bit.
Just my opinion.

I'm confused. I must be ignorant of the trends. If Mookie is an all-timer, fan-fav, then why would missing a few months hurt him, particularly for Scotty, who is a long-term Mookie Collector.
Chris here - any time out of the spotlight can be bad for the cards. Plus he’ll miss out on stats. Missing two prime year months is never good. These are big stat accumulation years.
Good stuff guys! If you're glad Betts is hurt, simply put...you're not a baseball fan. Also re:2021...don't forget Tatis was tearing it up and was neck/neck with Harper until the last month or so.

I enjoy listening to you guys! The best modern channel IMO. I’m more of a vintage collector and primarily a 1st ballot HOF collector. When I buy modern it’s largely based on speculation. And when I buy modern I tend to go after base cards because I don’t have the patience to track and research all the parallels. I mainly just enjoy the game, stats, and your conversations. Quick question some say base even rookies junk but getting to be lots of fake cards out there. Baseball not as bad but what's your thought on buying expensive cards. Just saw 23k card on ebay beckett and ebay certified but was fake so what do you buy. Heard lot about fake jerry rice rookie cards

This is the main reason why i dont pay over 50 for a psa 10 of a player i like. Counter point is that i bought his chrome rookie psa 10 like a month ago but he's one of my top tier favorite players so its not like im losing on a major PC card

Love you guys, but you tend to overreact to injuries
I spent 7 years in the btc mining world. Building large mining facilities, tons of power and cooling. If you want some insights into how prices work and what drives the value, let me know. FYI, the next peak will be around $150k to $180k later this year or mid next year. After that it will drop 80% to between $30k and $40k, thats when you buy and hold for 4 years.
Bitcoin is better on the long term than any one baseball player. I don’t own bitcoin but YoY it’s up 143% and is/will always be a safe haven for billionaires to hide and launder their money. But I also just collect I don’t flip lol
