    The blurred top section starting at 1:37 is due to an incorrect fact I had posted. Find My Device DOES work on GrapheneOS. One difference from the stock OS is that if the device is turned off, it will NOT be reachable. I haven't tested out the feature yet, but I may for a future video since I'm sure some people would like to use it on their device.

    Great overview, thank you. One thing I found on my GrapheneOS install (pixel 6A) was that I needed to re-install the offline dictionary to do voice-to-text. That feature completely stopped working and had me scratching my head. That would have been a significant pain point for me, as I use speech-to-text routinely, and prefer the offline feature so (presumably) no data goes to Google. A helpful fellow on the GrapheneOS forum clearly outlined how to restore that functionality. It was straightforward, and worked.

      @@gregbirger5810 Have you tried FUTO Voice? Works very well for me, but not so much for my wife. It automatically inserts punctuation which is cool, but sometimes it misses question marks and cannot do exclamation points! It also processes your entire voice snip before it displays anything. It is free, but they ask for $10 for the app, which I was happy to pay to support a privacy respecting company and app.

There have been so many times where ive had my earphones connected but i havent played anything in a while, then ill open a social media app that doesnt use the media player, and have to go to a music player app or even play some music JUST to get that switcher to come up for me.

    • @sideofburritos
      @sideofburritos  Месяц назад +5

      If you share your device, then I would be more concerned about my sensitive apps. If you don't share your device, then your sensitive apps should already be protected by your device PIN. On a non-shared device, it would then seem better to have Google Apps in the private space. If you're concerned about your sensitive apps in the same spot as Google Apps, then a separate User would be better. Like @Fuzzzdaddy said, “There isn't a “best” way. Just a way that makes sense to you.”

    Interesting that the screen recorder blocks out incognito except when in splitscreen mode. And still shows the touchscreen cursor when inputting a passcode.

    • @sideofburritos
      @sideofburritos  Месяц назад

      It does block it out in incognito/split screen. If I had tried to unlock incognito, it would then be black. It just stills shows the unlock screen in the recording. As far as the touches go, I had those manually enabled in the screen recording. Still kind of surprising they wouldn't have blocked that out now that you mention it. Seems like they should hide everything related to PIN entry if they're going to block it anyway.

Because of Apple mesh network, I taught myself to do this with my iPhone 6S when I had it. Because of Apple, I kept all my inactive phones off and in my Faraday bag until it was time for me to make a call. I'm not concerned with receiving calls.

    Thanks for the intro to the private space. I wish the developers would make it possible to group apps in the private space, unfortunately that's not possible in pixel 7 and 9. Unfortunately, the private space gets quite full and cluttered with all the apps that are there in alphabetical order.

      @sideofburritos  Месяц назад

      At this time, no. You're limited to one. No, I haven't begun using it yet. I don't see it changing my setup unless private space becomes available in secondary user profiles. Or, if the “install available apps” is added to private space. I thought split screen functionality was removed. What an obtuse way to enable it. Thanks for the video. Private spaces looks nice, but I assume even with a private space you could still be tracked or spied on with TikTok, Instagram, Google, etc. just by connecting to home wifi or using cellular data at home right?

    • @slashtab
      @slashtab Месяц назад

      It's same as it was with owner and user profile. If you're giving them your IP and and other user data, of course you can be tracked.

    • @sideofburritos
      @sideofburritos  Месяц назад +2

      Exactly what @slashtab said. Private space doesn't help you from a network perspective. For that you need a VPN/TOR. It also comes down to your usage and what information you provide to the service. The one thing private space does is once you lock it, the app will no longer be running in the background.
