After watching many videos on air rifles, this video convinced me to buy the Gen3i. I've had it for a few weeks now, & just love it.

I just received my rifle yesterday. Spent all morning and afternoon shooting. I love it already! I know there is a break in period but I was getting hole in hole @ 30 yards. Pushed it out to 50 yards and smacked a 4" steel spinner for 20 consecutive shots. I am far from an experienced shooter and this rifle makes me smile! I've only shot the Hades 15,89 Grain so far. Mannnnn do they mushroom nicely @ 50 yards.
Yes, the cocking effort is heavy. But for the power this beast is releasing it's worth it! I can't wait to see what the next 500 shots will produce. Very happy with my purchase. Get yourself one!

So you answered my question with this video...
    Hatsan sniper vortex qe .22
    924 FPS
    "27" FPE
    Gamo Swarm Magnum GEN3i .22
    H&N BARRACUDA GREEN
    997 FPS
    "28" FPE
    FIELD TARGET TROPHY
    935 FPS
    "28.5" FPE
    H&N HORNET
    895 FPS
    "28.8" FPE
Comparing your two different videos it looks like Gamo Swarm Magnum GEN3i is the more powerful break barrel air rifle
Good stuff. Thanks for all the informative videos 👍

Nice to know that the magasins of Gen2 fit for this Gen3. I didn't see anyone say it before on YT. The trigger kit is a fun fact, but for most people think it's best to leave this job to a gunsmith like you said.

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA Год назад +1

The head of the stock screw is bottomed out on the trigger assembly, so it can't be turned in any further. I went to the hardware store and got a screw 2mm longer, and bottomed out that head also. Did the job nicely and passed my bump tests easily. I understand the liability JC is worried about with his vids, and I know our education system is terrible today. But to me, it is insulting to mankind to have a gun smith laugh at you, if you can find one who even cares to do it. He might call the cops on you under some red flag law, if you can't figure that out. lol

I recently bought the pro version of this rifle. I absolutely love it. It is very accurate right out of the box, and I mean really accurate. Mine loves the H&N Baracuda Hunter, the H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme and the Gamo Rocket pellets. I was shooting pcp's a lot, but this one gave me back the love for break barrels. I recommend it 100%. Thank you, JC, for your advice and enthousiasm. Keep doing what you do. Greetings from Belgium, Europe.

Gamo Red Fire are also very accurate in this rifle and so should the Daisy HP 15.27-4 grain pellets since they are very similar except the HP doesn’t have a plastic tip. Would love to see the DHPs in your lineup since many of us use them for hunting/pesting/plinking, and target.

Starter for what? There at the top of the food chain for break barrels. Your not going to get a combo of more power and accuracy out of a break barrel and the add in the fact that they weight 2-3 lbs less than most break barrels. They are a great first air rifle if you want the power for fun or hunting. They also help build up upper body strength while cocking them. after 50 shots you got a good workout. After a week of shooting they feel much easier to cock :).

@@charlesoutdoors2424 yeah that guy Frank Cross doesn't know what he's saying talking bout starter rifle, this is Gamo's most powerful air rifle at the moment my cons for this rifle are it's a little too heavy and long, the recoil is too strong it bruises my face after 5-8 shots and my .177 sometimes still breaks the sound barrier with h&n 10.65 pellets when trying to be descrete

I had done my research and originally ordered a Gen 2 off of Amazon a year ago to own my first break barrel air riffle and shoot targets. I always use family & and friends' riffles to go plinking or to shoot targets. Well, when it showed up in the mail I took apart the box and checked out the riffle but something didn't add up. The magazine colors didnt look like a gen 2, and the loader mechanism looked different. I looked back at the box logo & info. It said Gen 3. 😮 🤯
I think somebody in shipping messed up. Since I never got charged the difference 😬😂 cool riffle. I love plinking with this riffle compared to the other gamo .177 swarm wispers that I've shot. I like using the .22 H&N Barracuda Hunter extreme pellets for pests & and plinking. I feel they are more accurate than the Crossman hollow point pellets that i use more for target practice. I have no experience in firearms, so please excuse me if I said a word or something about the riffle wrong. I do recommend this riffle to people you won't regret it.

Hello JC, thanks for discussing the compatibility of the Gen 2 magazines with the Gen 3i system. I just got a Gamo Bone Collector Gen 3i and I thought I would have to spend more money on magazines for the new system. Fortunately I have 8 mags for my .22 Gamo Swarm Magnum Gen 3i (which is so difficult for me to cock that I can barely use it!) and I am really glad to know that these Gen 2 mags work with the latest system.

I’m sitting here with a brand new .177 in my lap. It was the only break barrel that made sense to buy honestly from my point of view. My last couple air rifles have been an umarex octane in .22 that was an absolute peach of a sweet shooter. And an old crossman phantom I painted flat dark earth lol. The umarex was an amazing rifle for years until my uncle borrowed it, for some reason decided to try to disassemble it and lost pieces.. but without ever shooting this gamo I have to say, it’s a step ahead. The octane was a heavy big magnum gun with a thumbhole stock too, but the gamo is so much lighter and better balanced it really feels good in the hands where as shooting the octane always felt like I was wielding a barrel .50 cal..

The Gamo rifles are really nice guns. I have two of them, and you're right, they are doing something right because both of mine are also incredibly accurate. I really like the feel of them too. The balance is just right and they feel solid, but light. Power of course is superb no matter which Gamo rifle you have. I've had great luck with the red fire pellets for squirrel hunting. Most of my shooting is around 20 to 50 yards max. *Keep the screws in the stock tight!

Now I am shooting the Gamo Varmint .177 the scope was not very good so I upgraded to Tasco Air Gun 3-9X40 witch I like got 3/8 " group at 15 yards even with the terrible trigger this rifle has. I found a great pellet for the Varmint .177 it is the Premier Match Grade .177 cal. 7.9 grain, flat head, not only dose it group great but will also go through a 1" peace of pine board.

These air rifles are all pellet picky, and its really helpful to find specific pellets which are best suited to which particular air rifles such as the Hornet for this Gamo mag. gen 3, as you have shown us. I would never use a Barracuda Green for anything except for a sound barrier crack I suppose.

Probably at 750 fps in a heavier pellet which would definitely beat the competition in my opinion, the only issue is that you can't get it with swarm 10 shot mag. this video was the reason why I bought my first air rifle. Thank you JC for the great trigger product. Looking forward to installing it and dialing in this same exact air rifle. Appreciate the time you spend explaining in great detail the nuances of this gamo air rifle and the very helpful tips. Looking forward to more content. Perhaps you might demonstrate how to bore sight this air rifle with a laser bore sight? Just a suggestion. I posted a question about that on a reddit thread and got conflicting information about whether it is even possible to precisely zero the scope with a laser bore device...the concern was the moderator design and baffles inside that might interfere with a laser bore sight device. I have not tried it yet, so perhaps you might look at that and see if there is a method, or a workaround. The reason I am recommending this is due to many that are stating that the OEM scope does not hold zero very well and thus a replacement scope with more durability is recommended. I anticipate this will probably hold true and thus setting zero for the scope will be necessary. I know how to do a proper live fire zero, but coming from a powder rifle background, bore sighting saves alot of time and money and it's been my experience it is far more simple to get to a near perfect zero...without sending a round down range. And that is helpful for lots of reasons, mainly that it can be done in the backyard and not scare the pajamas out of my sleepy neighbors. Thanks again.

@@tdmmcl1532 Did not really answer your question huh. With a 16gr. pellet your pellet will drop one mill dot about every 28 yards, which is a flat trajectory for air guns. I don't think a bore sight would be beneficial. (I sight my air guns in a 40 yards by the way). If you shoot a lot, that gun will break any scope, and I have broken about 5 of them so far. My favorite is a little Leupold 33mm, 3-9 power with adjustable objective lens from the freedom line. It was like $320, but an extra $230 to putting a mil dot reticle in their custom department. Most scopes die at about 500 shots with a mag springer air gun, and I got over 4000 before I sent it back for repair with their lifetime warranty, (which is why I popped so much.). Of course, it did not come back as good as new,---so I will collect more data when I get time and send it back.
You could have gotten a 2mm longer screw at your local hardware store for about 30 cents. So he ripped you good, and I answered your questions a bit.

@@EarthSurferUSA I bought the hawke vantage mil dot. Life time warranty. The Gamo oem scope is definitely a challenge to zero and the overall operation is ancient and not very smooth. One thing I noticed is that the gamo scope can not be shifted back to my natural eye position. I moved it as far back on the rings as it can go and I still feel uncomfortable straining to get closer to the eye piece. I hope this longer hawke scope will solve that issue and be easier to work with and last. fingers crossed.

update on laser bore sight for the gamo swarm magnum Gen3i .177 (this probably applies to all Gamo rifles in any caliber that uses the same gamo moderator "can"): does not work! The internal baffles are set in a series at different distances and the bore sight will not meet and match those internal baffles. I tried different size adapters, but could not find any that seats precise enough to make the laser aligned to the plane of the bore. Frustrating! I contemplated removing the moderator baffles, but the moderator shroud is quite deep (almost 5 inches) and that makes placing the relatively short laser into the bore = mission impossible.
another update: I have three gen3i 10x autoloader magazines. NONE OF THEM are manufactured properly and present the pellet well out of alignment to the bore when cocking. This means the pellets is being crushed on one side as it is being pushed into the bore. So, I decided to manually load pellets to experiment if that misalignment was making a difference and indeed it does. Now, the shot group is much more consistent with far fewer fliers. It is quite disappointing to see this manufacturing design flaw in an otherwise good air rifle. If you look at the 10x magazine, you will notice this. Each pellet chamber is offset to true by about 40 percent! There is no way the autoloader pusher rod is going to push a pellet into the bore without causing either skirt or ball (or both) damage. I noticed this because one of the RWS BB pellet hybrid pellets was breaking apart during loading and the little brass/copper bb was falling out, but not the lead body-skirt. This lead me to realize the pellets were getting crushed by this flaw in the 10x magazine loader. Today, I bought a .17 cleaning rod and used it to push pellets back out of the breech to inspect them. Each pellet had damage to the skirt and tip. This is due to the out of true 10x magazine chambers that present the pellets well outside the plane of the bore. This means the pusher rod is forcing them back into the breech and they get jacked up. Manually feeding the pellets demonstrated this flaw is very real as the grouping and consistency of shots is so much better. I contacted gamo about this and will hopefully have them address this. That all three 10x magazines have this very same flaw tells me this is a design issue that is not easy to solve. I will probably just remove the 10x autoloader assembly altogether and just convert it to a more reliable single manually shot rifle.

I own both the Gen-2 and the Gen-3. There is absolutely no difference in the performance. They both take the same inertia magazines. But, as you stated, the Gen-2 has the nice fiber-optic open sites. My eyes are not as good as they use to be so I tend to go with the scopes regardless. I would have your friends contact Gamo and double check the future of the Gen3i. Again, I am surprised at the accuracy. I tested a Gen-2 and two Gen-3 Magnums and they were a virtual tie, amazing groups. Sounds like the Gen-2 may be a rare unit. Anyway. Happy Shooting! 👍🏻

This pellet is also coated with what feels like a wax like substance and you can hear and feel the pellet fit more snugly in the breech and the sound blast is the same tone, pellet after pellet, indicating to me they are consistently produced. this pellet is also much cheaper than the H&N green match in the same "magnum" gr weight (~10.49)

Regarding the trigger adjustment; I did mine in winter time and now that it is warm here in South Africa, and the rifle was in the sun for a while, the trigger was much more sensitive and went of by itself once as I closed the barrel. The heat obviously changed something. I immediately adjusted it to a save level again. This might be something to mention to your viewers.

update on the trigger mod and overall performance of .177 Gamo Swarm Magnum Gen3i:
    1. trigger is much much lighter. I also adjusted the first stage so the trigger travel before hitting the "wall" was less. I did the shake and bump test several times to make sure it was safe. It is a vast improvement over the stock second stage adjustment point. About half the force! And that has made a huge difference in shot groupings. Very tight now.
    2. I experimented with 9 different weight pellets. What I found is that I could shoot supersonic easily in the 5 to 8.5 gr weights and it was very flat all the way out to 70 yards with very little drop. About 2 inches drop average in the 5 to 8.5 weights. Above 9 is where this .177 seems to not break mach, and it's much quieter, by at least 20 decibels. But at those weights, especially above 9, the drop at 70 yards was significantly more - about 4-6 inches. So I recorded the elevation numbers for those weights. While the trajectory was flatter for the smaller weights, kinetic force at impact was far less than the higher weights. But there was definitely a "sweet spot" for weights, where trajectory was very good and impact kinetics was also good. I found the H&N Baracuda Power Domed 10.65 gr maintained good down range power and still maintained a pretty flat trajectory..about 3 inches at 70 yards. not bad! The smaller weights were fast and flat but could not penetrate an old oil filter through and through at 70 yards. Almost all of the above 9 gr weights penetrated through and through! Some of the smaller weights only made a dent. I also had good results with the Gamo Pellets TS-10 Long Distance 10.49 gr. There was very little difference between it and the H&N!
    3. In terms of shot grouping, there was not much difference with any of the weights. Once properly zeroed, they all seemed to make decent grouping, with the occasional flyer that was more likely due to either ME, or a minor defect in the pellet that I did not notice when loading.
    4. Wind effects: today it was blowing 10-15 steady, and it was quite a challenge. But here is something of a surprise! The smallest gr weights seems to have the least amount of deflection from the wind. This is something that I was not expecting! The H&N (above) and the GAMO TS-10 did okay, but out at 70 yards they were deflected by almost 4 inches! For the 6 gr going supersonic, with a rounded nose, the deflection was only about 2-3! The only thing I can assume is that the time in flight was less, far less, for these smaller weights. of course, it may have been in pellet shape, but there is definitely something to the nature of supersonic when dealing with windage. Something I really did not expect to see in a pellet air rifle.. I chalk that up to a very powerful GAMO! (which is why I bought it...faster is what I was after in the .177 so I could move the heavier gr weights down range, on the assumption they would perform better across the board. Learned something I did not expect. the light pellets going supersonic even out at 70 yards were not deflecting as much as these heavier pellets that cannot go mach. huh...I guess it's true what they say: each gun and pellet has it's own unique performance characteristics!
    5. final comment about pellet: The RWS Power Ball 2317414 Air Gun Ammo .177 (9.4 gr) goes supersonic in this rifle and it is incredibly flat and hard hitting, penetrating the oil filter through and through at 70 yards. However, I could not produce very consistent groupings. I think this is likely due to slight variations in the manufacturing of this two part pellet. the ball is either glued or soldered to the lead body and skirt. I looked at a few of them under a strong magnifying glass, and there were some very small variations between random pellets. The "shoulder" where the ball is attached to the lead body seemed to have dips and peaks, so I think the ball (which appears to be a solid brass round pellet), isn't precisely set in the manufacturing process. I don't have the patience to pick through the entire can each time and sort them, so I will unlikely recommend these pellets, even though they fly mach, very flat and hit hard. About 3 out of 20 went totally off the reservation! By more than a foot at 70 yards. Even closer down at the standard 35 yards, I observed the same thing. Which is frustrating because these do appear to be a very good design on paper. I'll be looking at something similar and test. ( if I get a wild hair, I might experiment with super gluing a ball pellet to a small weight pellet and see what happens! 🙂

It’s a .177 but am wanting something I can shoot farther with and this one has got some serious power. I’m considering the .177 variation of this gamo because I know it will shoot lighter lead pellets above 1150 fps. Just not sure if the higher fps in the .177 will perform well or not. Do you have a review of the 17cal? I know a lower fps with a heavier weight is still powerful enough to take a turkey with ease but I just enjoy to hear them crack the sound barrier. Great review brother I’m just getting back into shooting since I was a kid haven’t hunted in 17 years but my boy is 6 and he enjoys shooting with me and I kind of miss shooting and can shoot these in my yard so I don’t have to make special trips to the range which is awesome. THX JC! Amazing power figures.
The overall length is a bit much I'm afraid, but one does need such barrel leverage for obtaining high power. It makes this gun a bit overly slender. to my eye.. ...
And how did the sound mod work - is it sufficiently quiet ?
A question about the general approach to your testing.
Some of your piston guns (springer and gas ram) seem very very powerful.
I wonder for how long such guns will maintain their initial performance (within a reasonable margin for the accuracy & power figures).
If you decide to keep an indiviual gun and you shoot it very frequently, could you do a short revisit after a certain shot count (e.g. 25 K shots), to check its accuracy and power at that point ?
That would be a real asset for the candidate buyers. It would fit a really suspicious detective.
IOW: a series called "Airgun DETECTIVES REVISITED" ? Or even: "AIRGUN SLEUTH" ?
Or: "AIRGUN COLOMBO" ??? LOL !

😆🤣You might have something there...all these rifles are pretty easy to rebuild if necessarry but you will get 1000's of rounds through most of them. Happy Shooting!

Most break barrels will maintain there power for, well, at least 20 years cause that's the oldest one I bought new. they take about 1000 shots to really wear in the piston and seals so they become really smooth on all the contact points inside. That makes them shoot the most consistent and maybe a little stronger. Some guns have oil and grease getting in the compression chamber when there new and this cause them also to be inconsistent at first. Haven't noticed it with my 3 Gamos so the factory must be lubing them properly. That said springs can break and gas rams can lose pressure but not very often.

I really like that idea! The rifle is pretty quiet , not much difference then any other one. The way the pellet smacks the target is probably the loudest part. I really like the rifle even though i have more expensive brands. The Gamo magnum gen 3 .22 is my go to work horse! Hard to beat if you ask me

JC, you used a light weight pellet in that magnum, I was surprised also. The .177 Mag 3i is recommended by Gamo in Spain where they make these, to use
JSB Match Diabolo Exact Express .177 Cal 8.44 Gr. Domed. I just received an email from them. I was thinking the heaviest pellet would be the cure.

It's worth a try...remember, the rifle picks the pellet! Have a great weekend Doug!

Need help with Scope. Pyramyd recommended the Bugbuster scope which i bought. Seems too small for this rifle. No room to move it back to where i can use the cheek pad and get a clear site picture through the scope. Compared to my Benjamin vaporizer.. its perfect. Even with the stock scope, just seems the Magnum has a longer butt stock. To get close enough to the scope i have to sit the butt on my shoulder.

Hi, would the Magnum G2 shoot very similar to the G3? and which one would be less pressure for cocking, or are they the same? I can handle it, but not sure about my son. Thanks for any comments.
