So clever, this is just brilliant! Thank you so much, I’ve been struggling learning to chain-ply, this feels like it could be a game changer!

Oh bless you, thank you! It is quite a game changer and opens up lots of possibilities, especially when it comes to spinning complex, variegated yarns. I wrote a blog post about the two different types of chain-plied yarns here - www.craftmehappy.com/2022/11/chain-plying-at-wheel-versus-making.html

WAIT this is epic, the plying itself is just feeding it in to add twist 🤯 this would be great for more control over the colours and probably help make the joins smoother, yes?

Ha, it’s a brilliant technique isn’t it?! Yes, you just feed it into the wheel as fast as you want to add the plying twist. Sometimes I find the colour changes in a chain-plied yarn too abrupt so with this method you can get some quite complex barber poling, depending on how long you make your chains.
I wrote a blog post comparing both methods - there’s definitely a place for both www.craftmehappy.com/2022/11/chain-plying-at-wheel-versus-making.html

Thanks for the tip. I have found that leaving the spun single in front of the fire speeds up the setting of the single just like setting our hair with hair dryer !!! Oh there is another thing to try , hairdryer ???? !!!!! Cheers Pat nz

I have only chain plied a few times and did not enjoy it. This might make it easier. Thank you.

I find this method much easier. This video is a couple of years old now and I find it easier to make a plying ball by wrapping my chains around a ping-pong ball.

@@KathrynCraftmehappy Thank you, for the update, it seems to me that winding around a ball would be easier for me too.
