This started a debate, and she was shocked when I brought up some of the evidence behind the case against him. She didn't even know that their was non partisan witnesses, or even Trump appointed witnesses making up the backbone of the case. She thought that he was being impeached because he was trying to fight corruption, and based that argument on a video of Biden making a claim that he gave the old president of Ukraine an ultimatum to get rid of the prosecutor, or not get the aid that the Obama administration was to give to Ukraine. She also thought Biden was acting on his own, and that's why the actions of Trump where justified to her. It's not that she's stupid, but because she's a republican who most of the time, doesn't care about politics except around election time, but does see those ads, will every once in a while will tune into Fox, and has to hear all about how the republicans like herself are just deplorable, stupid, and need to be taken down. It makes sense that she like many others who aren't the most political, but grew up, married into, or just have sympathies to the republican party think that we're the bad guys in this situation. That's a record we need to fix. We won't fix it with insults, but we can fix it with logic, a friendly demeanor, and patience.

@MrGrifft Yes you are absolutely correct, that's why it's so important that we engage with them, and put our best foot forward. Yesterday I was watching the trial with a rightwing friend of mine. This started a debate, and she was shocked when I brought up some of the evidence behind the case against him. She didn't even know that their was non partisan witnesses, or even Trump appointed witnesses making up the backbone of the case.
She thought that he was being impeached because he was trying to fight corruption, and based that argument on a video of Biden making a claim that he gave the old president of Ukraine an ultimatum to get rid of the prosecutor, or not get the aid that the Obama administration was to give to Ukraine. She also thought Biden was acting on his own, and that's why the actions of Trump where justified to her.
It's not that she's stupid, but because she's a republican who most of the time, doesn't care about politics except around election time, but does see those ads, will every once in a while will tune into Fox, and has to hear all about how the republicans like herself are just deplorable, stupid, and need to be taken down. It makes sense that she like many others who aren't the most political, but grew up, married into, or just have sympathies to the republican party think that we're the bad guys in this situation. That's a record we need to fix. We won't fix it with insults, but we can fix it with logic, a friendly demeanor, and patience.
