Great informative, honest vid. After a lifetime of all sorts of cars we now have a new hybrid 500 and an older fire engined convertible. They're just brilliant.

Need one of these for my daughter as her first car! No other, has to be a 500!! I’ve always stepped away from cat n, but you’ve given me confidence. If only I knew where you are.
I've fixed a few of these after light crashes - they're sturdy & easy to work on. They get a name as being "unreliable" as most places that work on them are clueless tbh - I see them coming here with overheating issues where other places have worked on the cooling system & didn't bleed it afterwards, where the parts cannon has been fired at the vehicle because they didn't bother/know what the real fault was, etc etc. I'd have one over say a Mini, in a heartbeat if this was the sort of car I wanted.
Electric windows can fail on a cheap plastic clip, fixed with a few zip ties and an hour of work....great car, old school to fix and cheap to run and own. Loved the vid ¬!
I don't think you're asking too much for it, considering the mileage. Also, thank you Lee for being blatantly honest about the 500's common issues. Most folks would just pretend that there's nothing wrong with them at all.

Just a little update on the non interference cam belt statement, they were on the 60bhp 1.2 version but mine is the 68bhp 1.2 in my 2011 Panda and whatever they did to get the power and Euro 5 status made them an interference engine, still a bloody good engine though. Mine sits quietly on the motorway, averages 45mpg and does low to mid 50's on a run and I don't drive with economy in mind just returns great mpg. I'm not too bothered by Cat N but I wouldn't buy a Cat S unless I knew who had fixed it. When you started on about how you went through the noise on the back passenger side I started laughing because I went through the very same last year on the Panda and I started saying "Lee, its the axle bushes mate" but it took a few trips to the garage to get to the root of it for me lol
@@carukchannel I've just checked to see I'm right about the 68bhp engine and it turns out from google (take from that what you will lol) that only the 999cc Fire was non interference. I thought the 60 bhp was too but no. Ah wey thats why we like cars, always learning something new.
I'd take a Cat D but not a Cat C. I bought a 98 Prelude VTI that was a Cat C, the front end had been welded on by Stevie Wonder. Lost loads of money (and hair) stressing over it. Never again Nice looking wee car this. My first car, an E reg Panda, had a 1000cc Fire engine! Wasn't very quick...I put "Fire" down to the dodgy Italian electrics!
It’s a cracking looking car Lee. Every 500 has filthy seats but think it may be condensation from the pan roof. Always surprises me that the Fiat is so much nicer than the Ford Ka. Fire engine (Fully Integrated Robotised Engine) yes I’m sad!
Yes gearboxes do go on them, got a punto with a noisy box, however most of the used boxes are ripped out of puntos for fiat 500's as they are worth more
I believe that engine owes its genes back to the 60's possibly in the FIAT 850 where an OHV version of the 100 engine lived - the block was I think reworked to an OHC head
Correct me if im wrong but did you do a video. I think you were walking around in lanzarote on holiday looking at different cars. Maybe ive imagined that.
Man I remember the original fiat 500 from the 70s, they were little rockets ! but like all italian cars then the electrics were terrible, but still a fun car, you will sell that easily for 2300 Darren no problem :),I have a Ford FiestaTitainium diesel 11 plate from new with only 50k on the clock, best car I have had. never let me down, I can``t go EV it will feel like driving a milk float ! :)
Thanks jeff, yes I am not a van of EV but I am sure we will come across them on the channel. I personally feel hydrogen will be the answer but its 10 years behind
Fiat hadn't ironed out the electrical faults, at least by the 2015 models. The most common issue seems to be various warning lights flashing when the right hand traffic indicator is operated, also the indicators on my car cancelled at the least turn of the steering wheel - a very dangerous hazard! I didn't think it was very nice to drive at all and I wouldn't have another one at any price! [Yet I found the Panda which I previously had was a whole lot better!!].
Bought a 65 reg Ka 1.2 Zetec (Fiat 500 in disguise) in July 21, Cat C, it had driven down the side of something damaging the drivers rear quarter, door & a slight dent in the front wing. I have no idea why it had been marked as Cat S & could only think because it was asessed that the rear quarter would need replacing which is part of the "B" pillar too (it didn't). I replaced the door with a colour matched one, fitted a brand new door mirror, then had the rear quarter repaired along with the wing which "popped" out, then the whole side was repainted. Total cost inclusive of fees & the car transporter I hired to pick it up myself etc, was just £3010!! - I actually paid more than I needed to (£35 just to paint the damn mirror cap amongst other things lol). The kicker here is - it had LESS than 3000 miles on the clock with 6 Ford service stamps, the FSH being a bonus I didn't know about when I bid on it. It's my daily now as I couldn't get anything that value for anywhere near that price. Plus, I know where, and how well it was repaired/resprayed. So, in comparison, I think you paid too much haha ;p (Only kidding)
@@carukchannel I'm ashamed to say 3850 - I don't get out much as I work from home🤣 That's why I kept it to be honest. I'm not going to lose much on it & it's good enough for what I need it for. I have my garage queen for the fun stuff.
I bought a used 65 plate Fiat 500 six months ago. It was a nice little car until the Duologic automatic transmission started playing up a few weeks after I took delivery of it. Every now and again it would just stay in neutral and refuse to change out of it. I had to keep turning the ignition on and off multiple times before it would suddenly start working again. I had no idea or warning of when it would happen either. Absolute nightmare. I had to get the dealer to buy it back off me in the end and went and bought a six month old 22 plate Aygo X instead.
20 years ago most cars this old would have had some accident damage and nobody would be any the wiser . If it's nice and straight there really isn't an issue.
i would buy a cat N but not a cat S, my tip is if buying from a dealer hpi check it yourself as a auction i go to get a few cat N cars in and you hear dealers asking the auctioneer if it says cat N on the V5, i know one dealer bought a Cat N car and on the website says hpi clear!!!
@@carukchannel yearly £100 subscription fee. £1000 bid would be £169 buyer fee £59 bidder fee £40 pick up fee and £54 vat. Crazy really plus the repairs on top
I have never come across it making a difference with the exception of new drivers under 21 where a issue was raised once some years ago, sold many cat N and S since with no issues, thanks for watching bud 👍

I think 2.2k or 2.3k retail is about right, I recently visited Telford motor auctions and a 2010 500 1.2 went through for just under 2k showing 102k and not as nice as yours 👍.
@@carukchannel yes it's a good auction and the same company have an auction in Queensferry ( I think on a Friday ) my next Auction could be Brighouse 👍.
Cat N is a subject full of whys and what ifs .My car would have been Cat N if my insurers had taken it away from my home due to the Theft of its Catalytic converter ( £3,900 to replace with OEM) I found parts CE approved that a Garage fitted for me at £ 900 including the fitting Making it not a Cat N Insurers then refused my business at next renewal .Is it Cat N ? You are right with the Approx 25% reduction though But then your Fiat has a new wheel rim new suspension units and also the bearing It is a sorted Car that will give someone a few years of cheaper Motoring As you are a dealer you obviously warranty the car for the required length under the consumer rights laws Unlike a private seller who would not even let a buyer know about the Cat N
There is no minimum term for warranty, legally a car dealer does not have to provide any warranty by law, although we do offer one. CRA does give rights to the buyer and also the seller which is often forgotten which puts a dealer liable for up to 6 months, however its more complicated than that and something I know a lot about and intend to make a video on in the future as its a interesting subject, thanks for watching BN and you make a good point about Cat N vehicles 👍👍

I believe that engine owes its genes back to the 60's possibly in the FIAT 850 where an OHV version of the 100 engine lived - the block was I think reworked to an OHC head
Nice car and I think it's a 2495 all day cat d or n fiat 500 s or cheap and young drivers buy them for insurance good luck with it
All great stuff Lee. Maybe you could give us a count of the man hours spent when doing these as some of us have to pay a man😊
Will try and build that info into further videos welly,
👍👍👍👍 Great stuff Lee 👍👍👍👍
Correct me if im wrong but did you do a video. I think you were walking around in lanzarote on holiday looking at different cars. Maybe ive imagined that.
Yes I did, ruclips.net/video/KCTA8BQdTP4/видео.html
Love your Vlogs ! Do you do a HPI check on cars before bidding ? or they are pre-checked?
Sounds a cracking buy bud, what mileage is on it now Yips 👍👍
@@carukchannel I'm ashamed to say 3850 - I don't get out much as I work from home🤣
That's why I kept it to be honest. I'm not going to lose much on it & it's good enough for what I need it for. I have my garage queen for the fun stuff.
2495 on the market, and take the best offer, nice little motor m8
Another great video.
Think you made a wise choice there switching it for a aygo, I would not recommend a Fiat dulogic autobox
Panel fit and door shuts look tighter on N/S.
20 years ago most cars this old would have had some accident damage and nobody would be any the wiser . If it's nice and straight there really isn't an issue.
These 500s and KAs were made in Poland, not many people know about it
I did not either
Supplied by County Motors in Carlisle. Colour is Cha Cha Azure
thanks ryan 👍
That was a good price for repaired cat N, a 2008 in damaged cond would make near that in Copart.
thanks Lazar 👍
The gearbox fail on these cars and the wiring loom snaps near the hinge on the tailgate, and the door handle hinges snap.
Love it !!!
Good stuff.
i would buy a cat N but not a cat S, my tip is if buying from a dealer hpi check it yourself as a auction i go to get a few cat N cars in and you hear dealers asking the auctioneer if it says cat N on the V5, i know one dealer bought a Cat N car and on the website says hpi clear!!!
I used to buy from co part cat n registered. Never had problem selling them and sold them for standard retail price. Copart went to dear with fees tho
What are the fees on £1k at copart bud these days ?
@@carukchannel yearly £100 subscription fee. £1000 bid would be £169 buyer fee £59 bidder fee £40 pick up fee and £54 vat. Crazy really plus the repairs on top
I have a 2009 500 pop which is a cat n it has 87000 miles on it what would it be worth
The new fiat 500 came out in 2007 good looking car
not had a 500 but i did have a KA good little car and now got a panda engines are good just keep an eye on electrics
Thanks for watching george
Does it make a difference when you come to insure it ?
No
@@leedstown thanks 👍
Hi hope you are still looking after the black c 1 regards 😊
all cleaned up ready and waiting
Iv'e bought plenty of damaged repaired cars in the past Lee, dosn't bother me one bit
I always wonder how the CAT N issue will affect the insurance, otherwise I don't see there'd be a problem? Really nice little car.
I have never come across it making a difference with the exception of new drivers under 21 where a issue was raised once some years ago, sold many cat N and S since with no issues, thanks for watching bud 👍
@@carukchannel Always nice to know, thanks for the advice👍
Another cracker of a vid 👍🏼 glad to see the 08' plates getting some love (recently acquired a beautiful 08' Mondeo myself and it's hands down the best car I've ever owned [in all respects]). I've always liked the styling of these Fiat's though and i'd be looking at one if I was into smaller cars. Keep these vids coming! 🎉😎
Thanks LB 😁👍
Guilty pleasure these cars, always buy them whenever I can and enjoy working on them. They always clean up nice and sell like the hottest of cakes. Nice video 👍🏻
The price is about right for this catD car, think you will sell it without a problem due to its mileage, colour and spec 😊
thanks for watching david 👍
@@carukchannel love the channel Lee and your honesty
Could do with you nearer me!😅 Love your channel! New Sub.👌👍
thanks paul
Lee you need to put your seat belt on
It was on during the test drive, look again 😉😉
16:36 budget Italian electrics still doing the rounds😅
Lee, I have the CarWash opposite Prees car auction. I’d love to collaborate and valet the cars.
I noticed it had reopened recently, I will have to pop in at sometime 👍👍 Good luck with your venture Liam
First fait car i know to have the fire engine was the old MK1 fiat panda 4X4 that’s the car I owned good engine
Does it cost more to insure a categorized car?
Not that I am aware of, but I will look into that
I wouldn’t have one. And something needs to be done for the unrecorded ones as well more importantly
Baby blue I Believe mate !
Periwinkle blue....it's for me ma 😊
I think 2.2k or 2.3k retail is about right, I recently visited Telford motor auctions and a 2010 500 1.2 went through for just under 2k showing 102k and not as nice as yours 👍.
Thanks mickael, telford is on my list of places to visit not to far from me and number of trader friends attend it.
@@carukchannel yes it's a good auction and the same company have an auction in Queensferry ( I think on a Friday ) my next Auction could be Brighouse 👍.
@@weirbrook been to queensferry, but they are not doing live auctions where they drive them in since covid
