Funny . I bought the larger, Heavy duty version of this machine. Biggest difference is mine hsa the 5.5 lbs. hammers. Course I probably should have done what you did. a video and review. Unfortunately. I just don't have that kind of time . However. I figured it was time for a new flail mower and thought I could save some money with Nova Tractors Heavy Duty mower. Weelll, that didn't work out like I'd hoped. The very first job i did with it, worked great. However, the 2nd. job not so much. There are 4 belts which drive the flails, (mower drum). After about 2 hours into the project the 3rd. belt in, not the 1st, 2nd., or 4th. or even 2 or maybe 3 of them, Broke. The next thing that happened on the same job. Same day. The, supposed to be saft shields in the front of the machine, that's supposed to keep stuff from coming at you, 6 of them vanished. have no idea when or where they went, but they disappeared faster than getting someone to actually work these days. For supposing to be heavy duty they seem to bend real easy. The knock down bar on the front, yeah, Ya might want to change that out with a real pipe that don't bend so easy. The one on the back is great. Course it really doesn't do anything, Kinda like kids these days. Now the scrapper bar, The angle iron on the rear roller, It keeps the mud and stuff from building up on the roller. Yup. Change that out too. Because the fist time you back into some brush that you need to mow down, will bend on you faster than a career politician . Now the next thing that happened, I could blame it on the machine, but I'd be lying. Dam it. Should have learned how to lie better. lol.. I actually had one of those cast 5.5lbs. metal hammers break right in two. Ya I kinda may have hit a 4in. diameter oak stump that was hidden in the tall grass and brush. The gentleman failed to mention he cut down a few small trees. All the other ones he cut down short enough that with the machine set to it's highest setting would go right over them. That would be nice when you're mowing a hay field. The hammers work but you have to sharpen them. That takes time because you need to make sure they are balanced. Me. I'd swape them out. Then I could mow fast. to some. 4 years ago, you couldn't get one from Nova Tractor. I do a lot of roadside mowing for the state so I needed a machine that could do the task. This one is "NOT". I should have just waited for "The Red One" to get back in stock. They're a great machine that has lasted me for many years. Common sense says not to ram the equipment into thick brush. cut it down if it takes few pass my guess is it more designed to pull thru brush then to back right over.
They have lock nuts on them. I think it was just me beating it with that thick brush it was not intended to be used on. When mowing my fields they didn't work loose.
@@stephenjones8735 since four months ago I bought a flail mower. It can sideshift hydraulically but isn’t as manoeuvrable as the one in this vid. It should be all I need to mow grass between trees in my orchard. I have not used it yet. Hopefully it works.
Over the course of a couple clearings, a lot more than this machine cost! And keep in mind I didn't buy this just to clear this lot one time. It's also going to be used for years to come to mow these fields. Point is it's an excellent machine that is capable of so much more than it was designed to be.
Too bad they used round iron for the protective bar in the back instead of an I-beam other than that very fine piece of equipment that could clearly without much work or expense be dramatically improved and upgraded.
That guard isn't even needed, it's only there due to UK requirements I was told. Under "normal" operating conditions it would have been fine. I was shoving over what were basically 4"+ Trees with it! This thing needs no upgrading. I truly beat the hell out of this thing, it's worth every penny as is. FYI, I paid full price for this thing, this is MY honest opinion on this.
I should also point out, though the guard isn't really even needed as my other comment stated, I am glad it's there...if it wasn't for that then brush etc would be scratching and knicking up the actual flail mower body...so this is a little extra protection to keep what counts pretty :)
$15/each...and I have yet to need to replace any..and I have truly BEAT this thing! They have a whole list of spare parts you can purchase on their website.

Nothing like a flail for giving your land a close shave
Common sense says not to ram the equipment into thick brush. cut it down if it takes few pass my guess is it more designed to pull thru brush then to back right over.
You obviously don't own fields and haven't dealt with the stuff before lol
from whom didi you buy the nova unit from? I have a kabota 2380 tractor , 21 horse power, would it be big enough to run the nova unit
@@kimberleyoliver8160 in vid description.
Would lock washers or Loctite work to keep the nuts from backing off?
They have lock nuts on them. I think it was just me beating it with that thick brush it was not intended to be used on. When mowing my fields they didn't work loose.
I have the tractor, a Kubota MX5200 with two rear remotes. I need the mower. Not for clearing bush but to cut grass. Grass that is six feet tall.
the six foot grass will be way tougher than what you watched in the video better with round up and fire
I found Y knives at I think WoodMax and cut 6 foot grass with ease with my mfz195 flail mower. I had to get spacers made but it work amazing.
@@stephenjones8735 since four months ago I bought a flail mower. It can sideshift hydraulically but isn’t as manoeuvrable as the one in this vid. It should be all I need to mow grass between trees in my orchard. I have not used it yet. Hopefully it works.
Incredible review, great job!!!!!
Thank you!
What size Kubota is that I have a 3901 , will it work ? Awesome video , straight to the point. No cat and dog nonsense lol
3901 should be fine. I have a MX5200
My god. Just buy Compact Track Loaders299D3
forester. . I mean much would a contract charger to clear your lot?
Can you use a quick hitch with this?
No, I don't think there is any flail mower that can be used with a quick hitch.
Are you using the hammer blades?
Yes
Great video!!
Awesome video
Thank you
How much do the teeth cost (hammers)
$15/each...and I have yet to need to replace any..and I have truly BEAT this thing! They have a whole list of spare parts you can purchase on their website.
Not bad 😧👍
so satisfying video 🤣😁😎👍
Quick Hitch compatible?
By design I don't believe any flail mower is, they're too big and heavy. Their own frame (yellow section) supports them. Easy hookup still though.
"Taking it to the limit"
What size tractor is this???
Kubota MX5200 (52 net HP)
What HP is your tractor?
52 Net (Kubota MX5200)
It helps to know how to use the equipment before you use it.
Got er done 👏👍💪🏆🏆👴🐕🚜🦌😎🤠🙏🙏
I feel pain!
MRP
Video quality sux, and you go on and on about the same think without saying anything of real use. You talk over the noise of the mower, and that noise makes hearing what you're saying impossible to discern
Negative 5
10.9 is grade 8 lol
@@ColeSanders-m5r it's metric so similar to SAE J429 grade 8 but is actually grade 10.9 on the metric scale. The internet is there, educate yourself before you pat yourself on the back for attempting to make someone look stupid.
@@rednecktech82 calm down buddy wasn’t trying to make anyone sound stupid lol the tensile strength to both of them is so close they’re basically the same thing
