The fact that they're attacking Aaron for using Nazi imagery is a bit strange to me, because gay people were also heavily persecuted under Nazism, and saying that only Jewish people are allowed to make art using WW2 iconography is kind of erasing the many many other types of people who suffered because of Hitler's regime. Also, these activists are hella confrontational. This isn't a discussion between them and Aaron, so much as a lecture to Aaron about why he's wrong and they're right. I mean, you don't owe it to anyone to be polite, but if your goal is to have a progressive conversation that ends with your concerns being addressed, it's probably in your interests to be respectful and not cut people off mid-sentence.

I can't stand the interviewers. I think as an interviewer you can't go into an interview with a biased opinion. They clearly were just jabbing at Sharon and then turn around and say "Yeah I know what you mean." They don't though. They just kept asking and prying over the same question. The guy kept saying, "I understand what you're saying" and then goes on to say how she isn't listening and then says "I'm not gonna go there" You are an interviewer, he needs to grow up or change occupations.

as a former activist of color, I have to say that there's a point when you've got to stop being angry about the oppression you face and stop judging everyone who doesn't think exactly like you do. these activists were talking AT sharon and at one point started talking about times when they've been discrimintated against by other people. they just wanted someone to blame for everything that's gone wrong for them, and sharon was the new target. that doesn't feel like social justice to me.

The beauty of Sharon Needles and what makes her unique is exactly what people are trying to kill about her. I find her acts to be something deeper than anything other queens are doing. Sharon does drag with a purpose and its to strip the power from stigmas and racial discrimination. She UNDERMINES the seriousness of the words she uses by using them so sparingly and without fear. Of course, because shes white, no one will stop to think about her purpose. The two main interviewers' intentions were to attack and shame, and to berate Sharon as if he had to answer to them. They behaved more like cross examining attorneys than interviewers, and their statements were more reflective of the turmoil in themselves than they were of Sharon. Each statement made was contradicting...."On a personal level I don't care if your position will shift or anything about you, but stop doing this and you need to apologize." There is no need to inject that personal sting of apathy to insult your guest before making your point of asking for an apology. Unprofessional. Also, she said "You are not shifting the conversation about race in what you're doing, you're only hurting people. " And yet here they were having a conversation about race! Trolled. 1 point for Sharon. And when the female interviewer said "I know you have a history of--you felt you were attacked recently..." RIGHT AFTER he said he felt attacked, it shows that she was so busy staying on the other side of her wall and putting pseudo-professional sentences together that she couldn't have this interpersonal conversation with him. Yes, "recently"-- like two seconds ago! They weren't there to mend bridges. They were there to try to push Sharon off one. Sharon Needles is too real, too intelligent and self trusting to fall for their trap, and is even more of an inspiration now. And who flees from an interview while your guest is talking?? That was so difficult to watch because it was an attack and not a healthy discussion or interview. Nowadays is very easy to call someone this or that without even researching the reason behind their actions. The world is not black and white, you can't make a statement based on what just seems to be the "fact" for you. What he said about all the young people whose life he changed was the part that got me in tears, from then on. Aaron/Sharon really saved me, and keeps on saving me whenever I find myself in hard days and for that I'll forever be grateful.

For what it's worth: Freedom of speech goes both ways. Someone is free to try to make a point using racist imagery or words and other people are free to react. I dislike these two and how they are speaking with Sharon (Who I really like and respect) and I think she did a good job in responding. However, to use this kind of language and imagery, you MUST be open to other people using their rights and expressing their opinion. Yes, these two come off like assholes, but that is also their right as much it is her right to express herself. If you don't agree that freedom of speech goes both ways, then you don't support it. The title is very misleading. Sharon barely discussed anything, she was interrogated. I think Sharon has built her act on "shock value" and she needed to increase the controversy to keep increasing her fame. I do not support her use of the terms, but I hear twelve year old boys using it to speak to each other in the street and I see it painted on doors of toilet stalls and seats at school. Her costumes are what she said, costumes. Once again built on shock value. Am I personally offended by this? No. Do I think she should stop? Of course. Was this the right way to "discuss" it with her? Not at all.

So unprofessional. I am a gay and also a minority. I'm still pretty young (23) but over the course of the years, you learn to get tough skin... Being a minority in the gay community is NOT easy on any level, and frankly people who aren't a minority in the gay community should not be telling people how they should be feeling or that they are too sensitive. Just as opinions, people have a right to their emotions.. That being said, attacking Aaron like this accomplishes nothing.. The guy interviewing Aaron obviously was projecting a lot of his anger, sadness and rejection onto him. Hopefully he will get some psychological help to go through it.

I thought he handled that really well. It was great that the guy off camera stepped in to wrap up the interview when the couple firing questions and accusations went AWOL. The female interviewer was a blinkered bully, and the one in the floral/striped shirt had so many issues - that's what the anxious laugh was about. All artists who challenge and push boundaries and experiment, run the risk of being misunderstood and wrongly accused of all sorts - Bowie, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, Bruce La Bruce. This isn't an interview, more akin to bunch of nerds in their mother's basement bitching on twitter and tagging the recipient, at least the had the nerve to do it to her face, but then again, not without back-up. Really shoddy interview, an embarrassment. Sharon comes across really well in this, she is far more intelligent than the two 'interviewers' (who seem to let their emotions take over), she eloquently explains her ideas, imagery and performance, and shows that what she does is an art, with meaning and purpose (along with drunken antics of course!), but what she does goes way over the two 'interviewers' heads, I feel embarrassed for them.
After this I can firmly say that Sharon is an amazing person. I can hardly imagine how much pressure she's been through because everyone kept asking her to change, and I think the finally gave up in some aspects to please the others and make people happy. And now everyone brags about how much she changed. She's brilliant and has an unique way of expressing herself. She's been misunderstood and her art has been misunderstood because not everyone can understand satire sometimes. It's so sad to see how everything turned back against her. Context is important but with using these shock tools for art you must have a very smart thought out plan and perfect execution.i think for most part Sharon absolutely feels that she has the perfect execution, I feel as if the interviewers didn't exactly come prepared for their job which isn't to come across accusatory but inquisitive.

The fact that they're attacking Aaron for using Nazi imagery is a bit strange to me, because gay people were also heavily persecuted under Nazism, and saying that only Jewish people are allowed to make art using WW2 iconography is kind of erasing the many many other types of people who suffered because of Hitler's regime.
Also, these activists are hella confrontational. This isn't a discussion between them and Aaron, so much as a lecture to Aaron about why he's wrong and they're right. I mean, you don't owe it to anyone to be polite, but if your goal is to have a progressive conversation that ends with your concerns being addressed, it's probably in your interests to be respectful and not cut people off mid-sentence.

I can't stand the interviewers. I think as an interviewer you can't go into an interview with a biased opinion. They clearly were just jabbing at Sharon and then turn around and say "Yeah I know what you mean." They don't though. They just kept asking and prying over the same question. The two main interviewers' intentions were to attack and shame, and to berate Sharon as if he had to answer to them. They behaved more like cross examining attorneys than interviewers, and their statements were more reflective of the turmoil in themselves than they were of Sharon. Each statement made was contradicting...."On a personal level I don't care if your position will shift or anything about you, but stop doing this and you need to apologize." There is no need to inject that personal sting of apathy to insult your guest before making your point of asking for an apology. Unprofessional. Also, she said "You are not shifting the conversation about race in what you're doing, you're only hurting people. " And yet here they were having a conversation about race! Trolled. 1 point for Sharon. And when the female interviewer said "I know you have a history of--you felt you were attacked recently..." RIGHT AFTER he said he felt attacked, it shows that she was so busy staying on the other side of her wall and putting pseudo-professional sentences together that she couldn't have this interpersonal conversation with him. Yes, "recently"-- like two seconds ago! They weren't there to mend bridges. They were there to try to push Sharon off one. Sharon Needles is too real, too intelligent and self trusting to fall for their trap, and is even more of an inspiration now. And who flees from an interview while your guest is talking?? That was so difficult to watch because it was an attack and not a healthy discussion or interview. For what it's worth: Freedom of speech goes both ways. Someone is free to try to make a point using racist imagery or words and other people are free to react. I dislike these two and how they are speaking with Sharon (Who I really like and respect) and I think she did a good job in responding. However, to use this kind of language and imagery, you MUST be open to other people using their rights and expressing their opinion. The title is very misleading. Sharon barely discussed anything, she was interrogated. I think Sharon has built her act on "shock value" and she needed to increase the controversy to keep increasing her fame. I do not support her use of the terms, but I hear twelve year old boys using it to speak to each other in the street and I see it painted on doors of toilet stalls and seats at school. Honestly though this interview went on way too long. They needed to give him some fucking space.

Sharon Needles is obviously sincere, and a kind person. Edgy work is often misunderstood.
I would be angered at these "reporters" but after watching them conduct themselves so unprofessionally I can rest assured that their immaturity will limit their voice. (AKA their success in that field of work) It was more or less watching two people bully someone with gossip and false accusations. Thank you Sharon for being as strong as you have been. Many would have broken before now. You are a great roll model and have helped many troubled people in this world. For the sake of the others that need your strength, please don't change.
I'm black and I don't even care that she used the 'n-word'. And I'm not speaking for all black people but c'mon - it's a fucking word. Straight white boys use it all the time trying to impersonate black men - and we're still hella cool with them. I'd rather hear Sharon Needles walk up to me and be like "What's up my n*gga?" than some random freak call me that on the streets in attempts to harass me. And maybe I wasn't paying attention and she did use it as a racial slur and it's not okay. But the way you went about harassing her and practically forcing her to say "I am never ever going to do so and so again" is really fucked up. Because really, how can you expect someone to NEVER do anything again. There are people that are like "I'm never having sex with a boy/girl again because they're soooo icky" and you can catch them behind the nearest bar with their tongue stuck down a strangers throat and their hand up their shirt. This entire interview is fucked up - I don't care how late I am in stating my opinion on it. Get on the ball, assdicks - what you did to Sharon is not cool and you need to rupaulogize. #off
Are we serious???! I applaud Sharon Needles for not walking out on this interview. Why is there such a lack of understanding in the LGBT community. As if it is anybody else's place or position to tell anyone what is acceptable to say or do. If there is any refernce of Hitler, it is in those interviewing Sharon and telling him what he won't be, ornshouldnt be doing again in the future. Give me a break!!! Hypocrisy at its finenst.

I thought he handled that really well. It was great that the guy off camera stepped in to wrap up the interview when the couple firing questions and accusations went AWOL. The female interviewer was a blinkered bully, and the one in the floral/striped shirt had so many issues - that's what the anxious laugh was about. All artists who challenge and push boundaries and experiment, run the risk of being misunderstood and wrongly accused of all sorts - Bowie, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, Bruce La Bruce. Sharon, you are in good company. Keep it up. x

This isn't an interview, more akin to bunch of nerds in their mother's basement bitching on twitter and tagging the recipient, at least the had the nerve to do it to her face, but then again, not without back-up. Really shoddy interview, an embarrassment.
Sharon comes across really well in this, she is far more intelligent than the two 'interviewers' (who seem to let their emotions take over), she eloquently explains her ideas, imagery and performance, and shows that what she does is an art, with meaning and purpose (along with drunken antics of course!), but what she does goes way over the two 'interviewers' heads, I feel embarrassed for them.

After this I can firmly say that Sharon is an amazing person.
I can hardly imagine how much pressure she's been through because everyone kept asking her to change, and I think the finally gave up in some aspects to please the others and make people happy. And now everyone brags about how much she changed.
She's brilliant and has an unique way of expressing herself.
She's been misunderstood and her art has been misunderstood because not everyone can understand satire sometimes. It's so sad to see how everything turned back against her.
And you can tell by this how much it hurt her to be misunderstood when she just wanted to help people to overcome their fears.

A magazine that prides itself to advocate "no hate" seems like they got it confused and had these two angry "youths" step all over what the gay movement has been working so hard not to convey. Am I wrong? You could hear it in their voices. It's their 15 minutes of "youtube" fame that clearly backfired from reading the rest of these comments.

Why do people feel the need to scrutinise everything that someone in the spotlight does? Not for one second do I agree with using the 'N word' or otherwise to be intentionally racist, or use controversial imagery for offence, but WAKE UP. Sharon Needles, on top of her immense talent, uses this spotlight to challenge taboo subjects for comical purposes, and also to make people think. THINK before you attempt to use someone's talent and nerve against them.
I felt Aron's frustration over this two clearly damaged individuals... sharon needles is a fictional caracter!, and in this abnoctious interview we can appreciate the amount of pressure that comes with fame... this two were attacking him and he was a complete gentlemen. I can only say to all those haters, I LOVE SHARON NEEDLES EVEN MORE!. And Mr. Coady is a true artist, in so many levels.
Context is important but with using these shock tools for art you must have a very smart thought out plan and perfect execution.i think for most part Sharon absolutely feels that she has the perfect execution, I feel as if the interviewers didn't exactly come prepared for their job which isn't to come across accusatory but inquisitive.
