Man love these instructional videos. You can’t imagine how much this helps us newbies out. Appreciate you bro ✊🏽. I have a question, I have a family that wants me to customize their sons baseball cleats. Granted he is playing youth baseball and they play like 8 games every weekend. What do you suggest for protection from the gravel and sliding and such?
John Martinez glad you’re enjoying the vids bud.. prep is everything when it comes to cleats, you do that correctly and you have nothing to worry about
I’m going to dye some laces the same color as a pair of suede Clark’s I’ve used suede dye on. Can I use suede dye on the laces and do I need to mix the dye with 2-Soft?
I LOVE KPOP no prep work needed on these, and to be honest I’ve never used a finisher either... since prep/finishers are really about making sure the artwork holds over time you don’t have much to worry about here since there won’t be any cracking bleeding
What colors? I might honestly just airbrush em with 2 soft.. the colors will be relatively soft and not as saturated but I think that would be your best bet
I'm working with round shoelaces and I'm trying to add pattern to the laces... For example, after I dye my shoelaces in dark purple, I want to add a light purple stripe in the middle and maybe add small flower patterns (colours white and red) here and there... is there any way I can do that by hand for customizing shoelaces? Thankyou :)
This help so much Dillon! It’s Dillon right??😅 I’ve had this color I mixed and I’ve been using it for small details but the laces in that color was really gonna tie it in in my opinion. So I just added 2 soft the rest I had left and man it was enough😎 Thank you for taking the time to film your knowledge! Absolute legend🫡
What do you do about avoiding the aglets? I'm trying to keep those from getting the same color. It needs to stay as black aglets, yellow cord so I got rit dye powder which is the safest one I use. I used a type of mix to make paint into fabric paint. How long does that solution stay viable from 2020 purchase? Sorry, I used it for a jean jacket back then. But this is just a smaller sewing project. It is impossible to find this type of color lace to aglet ratio. So, making my own.
Can you shown a video showing how to use vinyl heat transfer on the swoosh please question: When mixing paints to get your desired colour .... Is there anything to add to help the colour or it should work just fine mixing two colours??
I have 2 questions... I am trying to colour match an orange lace for stussy huarache lights and I have a 'sherbert' orange (lighter colour) lace. Can I mix the paint colour and add that to lighter orange lace to build the colour or should I start with a new white lace? Also I dont want white tips, so will adding 2 hard work for that? Thanks
I have orange laces but they’re too bright. I have paint that matches my shoes and I’m wondering if i can dye the highlighted bright orange laces with a neutral orange paint.
Quick question: I only wanted to paint the tips of the shoe laces so I mixed the paint with 2 hard and the paint holds up. However, the paint “bubbled” a bit when I heat set it, any tips on this?
Do you know how to fade out the color in shoelaces. For example I have some Kelly Green laces that I want to make them look old and aged with a faded green color instead????
YYYOOOO I know this video is old now and you likely won't see this but I'm trying to dye some white snowboard laces to a nice yellow color like the yellow from the radiation sign. any tips? Also the laces are 95in/240cm
No so 2thin is just a thinner that helps the paint run through an airbrush. 2soft is an actual fabric medium which help leather paint actually bond with fabrics
I forgot to heat set my shoelaces that I painted. I don’t want the color to bleed on my sneakers. Can I save it by going back and repaint them again and heat set this time? My sneakers are yellow and the laces are navy😣
question.. more than half of my mixture was 2 soft, but after heat-setting, they’re still kinda stiff. is there any way to correct this and get them soft again?
No unfoauntely after you’ve already dyed/painting something and it’s a little thick there’s not much you can do... you potentially didn’t strain them enough so there was too much paint, or not heat setting for long enough would be some potential errors I’ve made in the past
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear i want to dye huge chuncky laces and my angelus paint won't do the job it's to small I was wondering if the too soft would work with a normal acrylic paint?
DeJesus Custom Footwear okay thanks man and keep up the good work I like what your doing. Happy New Years. If you have any good advice on painting soles, a video would be nice. I know your not supposed to but you know there’s people out there that say what works and what doesn’t and I’m sure you got some good knowledge on it. The only thing Ive ever known that works is Raleigh scratch resistant sealer but, I think a video of that would be useful to upcoming shoe customizers. It’s something you HAVE to be able to perfect because there’s always gonna be a time where you need to paint a sole and you don’t want that cracking.
Cole nicolas I would say you could deifnitly expect it to be at least a tad bit lighter due to mixing in the medium. However once you get the ratio right I don’t think you need separate colors or anything, I never do personally.
Cool video, I am trying relentlessly to dye laces, 1/1 ratio with too soft, remove excess paint, heat gun but the laces always leave stain on a paper towel and hence on the final shoes (even after months). do you have any ideas what could be the issue? Thanks fam
i have a question, i prepped my shoes and painted the swoosh, and put finisher and it doesn’t peel but the paint on the thread of the swoosh does peel, please help
I used to dye my laces but never heat set them after. So they would always be a stiff when they dried. Glad i know now, great video!
Matt Santiago yes super vital step, and one I definitly wasn’t doing at first either!
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear is there a way to make them soft again after they become stiff or is it ruined?
Yesss, also theres a bit of bleeding arter dying....should i wash them after dying ??
you can use fabric softener as last resort if you dont have gac 900 or too soft
I think this video needed more arm waving.
We can make that happen in the next one 😎
Hell yeah! 😍
And I thought I was alone 😂
Now I know for which shoe you needed those laces 👍 Miami Nights one of the best customs this year very clean and simple paint job.... I love them 😍
Informative as usual, keep it coming.
So 2soft is the exact same as the gac. 900? 2 soft and set it with heat for liners and it won’t come off on socks ?
Would a hair dryer work? This is exactly what I needed to find for my projects but I don’t have a heat gun or know of anyone who does have one
Did it work?

Can I use one of these two mediums w acrylic paint? Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!
Sorry if I missed that , but did you prepare them with aceton first or did you just scip that and did you use any finishers on the laces ?

Can I soften the laces with a hair dryer? I dyed them but there are very stiff and I don’t have a heat gun.
I'm thinking of putting a gradient design on my laces, but im not sure if this method would work, is there any advice you have?
What colors? I might honestly just airbrush em with 2 soft.. the colors will be relatively soft and not as saturated but I think that would be your best bet
Hey the turquoise that you used is that the angelus paint made for painting leather mixed with too soft or is that a dye made for fabric only

Painting on laces can be quite difficult with the way paint bleeds. While I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, it’d be difficult to pull off
You said every ten minutes but for how long do you use the heat gun each time?
30 seconds or so

Can i use finisher after to protect the paint? Thanks
Quick question: I only wanted to paint the tips of the shoe laces so I mixed the paint with 2 hard and the paint holds up. However, the paint “bubbled” a bit when I heat set it, any tips on this?
Don’t heat set hard surfaces. Only heat set with 2-soft and fabric-like surfaces.
Would the process be any different for laces that already come in color, like black?
Yes I would avoid black ones, the color won’t pop unfortuantely
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear Thank you!!!
Would I have to seal them with something or are they waterproof?
Did you use angelus dye or angelus paint as a dye?? Thanks :)

Cool tips .. very useful information 👌
Thanks Daniel!
Can I substitute the heat gun thingy with a blow dryer (hair dryer) please respond I’m in a rush 😅
If it gets hot enough you might be okay , but they may end up a little stiff
can i do half and half with paint? such as put one half of the lace in one cup with one color and another cup with a different color?
i know it’s an old video but can i heat set them with a hair dryer???
Hello. Yes I can confirm that a hairdryers works just as well as a heat gun. I find it's actually gentler which I prefer
I have cool grey colored laces but I wanna change em white can i jus bleach it?
You can try, but unfortuantely I think you’re more likely to end up with that weird pink that happens with bleach
His gestures 😂
Would you recommend this if I don’t have angelus and those other paints also if I don’t have a heat gun?
Unfortunately the laces will be come out incredibly stiff without it
If they were to ever get wet, would they bleed????
good advice
Can we use a blowdryer instead of a heatgun?
I’ve been trying to find this iut
Does doing this method help with the color staining the lace holes?
I would say this will still stain them if they were factory white and you did a medium-dark color on laces
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear yeah! Understandable, so something like red would stain the lace holes?
@@mdcustomdrip if they were factory white panels , I would bet yes
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear oh ok! Good to know. Is there different laces you recommend for this type of thing?

DeJesus Custom Footwear ok thanks just wanted to make sure so I didn’t mess up my new custom
Do you know how to fade out the color in shoelaces. For example I have some Kelly Green laces that I want to make them look old and aged with a faded green color instead????
I would airbrush some vignettes around the laces, darker browns and greys
I thinking more of the lines of bleaching them to get the color of the green dye out of the laces
Relmo Pérez Gutíerrez could give that a shot, bleach can be tricky.
Do we wash them off after?
Thanks for the info, it was helpful.
do your arms get tired with all that waving around?
Nope , excited to teach 😅
DeJesus Custom Footwear is it possible to use a blow dryer/ hair dryer instead of a heat gun
Not to keep the laces truly soft

Sure did , starts at the 1 min mark
Doh! 🤦♀️ thanks... didn’t hear you say they’re the same 😆
Are these laces waterproof? And what’s best too keep custom trainers waterproof too?
They are! As far as keeping your trainers in tact it’s all in prep work, no sealer will save bad prep work...
Can you dye different colored laces instead of just white laces? if I had an extra pair I wanted to dye a different color would I be able to do that?
I think the colors wouldn’t turn out exactly how you want them if it weren’t on a white lace to start
DeJesus Custom Footwear okay thanks!

Yes I’d like to know that too. Is it a type of fabric paint?

Hey! What kind of paint did you use?
Angelus paint!
Is the angelus 2-soft and the angelus 2-thin the same thing? Because I couldn’t find anything that was related to 2-soft on their website
No so 2thin is just a thinner that helps the paint run through an airbrush. 2soft is an actual fabric medium which help leather paint actually bond with fabrics

Does a blow dryer have the same effect as a heat gun?
Pretty similar , typically they don’t get as hot . But most will get the job done
I did all these steps and my laces are still a bit stiff:/// could I wash them to get them softer or will that fade the colour of the laces?
In general I would try that or dish soap or something because the worst it’ll do is fade and u just gotta use more paint and do it a second time
What would you do if you want to keep the tip of the laces the same color you changed them too?
It’s gunna be really hard since it’s plastic and very very likely to just crack or chip with any type of paint on it unfortuantely
Can I use fabric medium instead? I don’t own 2 soft or the other thing..
Yup 2soft is a fabric medium
