It comes down to the what the word of God says, your personal walk with God and modesty. Getting people to do what you say doesn’t prove that the change was from God. Let God convict a man. Let God change his clothes. I’ve been back and forth myself over what is modest. What is pleasing to the Lord that we should wear. In my opinion a man would be honoring God more by wearing a cheap grey t shirt than to be head to toe in a suit and tie. The t shirt is a lot closer to the standards God sets in the New Testament. Pharisees loved their long robes and tassels. Ties lean more towards pharisaical behavior. A suit can be used in a lot of ways. To show power. To show being well off. But you can also buy them cheap at goodwill lol.
At the end of the day. Modesty. Cleanliness. Following God.
You better have a New Testament verse to back up what you preach to others on how to dress. Or else it’s just you enforcing your own preference for what you think pleases God.
Jesus never wore a suit. No apostle ever did. 1 Corinthians will shut that up quickly.
If anything suits were a problem from day one. That’s a rich look. Business men.
It’s a sad truth that in certain cultures people won’t think you’re worth listening to about God unless you are dressed up. They certainly would have missed treasure from Paul.
    A suit is dignified.
But Paul says he was treated as the filth of the world. Naked. Hunger.
Not dressed in a suit on the way to the Mexican restaurant after meeting.
I have many brothers who wear suits. I’ve even worn them. It’s not the suit. It’s not the t shirt.
It’s has God called this man? If He has the. God surely will lead him into decisions that bring Him glory and honor.
The really scary part for me is to hear and see emotion and conviction that comes off as a from God sermon in full but what he is saying has parts of man inserting what he wants into it.
The more a man called to preach reads the word and stands before people to preach Gods word. The more careful he becomes. The weight of what he is called to. Not wanting to ever taint the truth with my own ways.
    But we are all human.
Lord help us to not preach from our flesh.
For that is not preaching at all.
1 Corinthians- I came to you weak in fear and trembling.
The Spirit poured out upon a humble man that did not have the respect even of the people he came preaching to.
Mighty men have a mighty hard time with this a lot. As we all do. But if I want the strength of God I best get low. Be a weak vessel. Paul diminished himself on purpose along with Gods diminishing of him.
It’s a scary thing you see in churches where esteemed men. Men of great. Have control in the flesh over people impressed by them.
That’s why God usually doesn’t choose the mighty.
May our faith not be in the wisdom of men.
And also in my opinion in any part of other men.
Lord help us not to pick pastors based off the mighty in flesh. The war heroes. The ex sports stars.
God can certainly use any of those men. But let God do that. Not a group thinking carnally.

I believe in dressing decently and modestly, but preachers like this guy strain at gnat. It really got me when he said if people don't think a woman is an Amish woman, she isn't dressed right. Amish women wear bonnets on their heads. Also, a man who wears short pants hasn't done something worthy of execution. Such legalists are too busy sizing people up to praise and thank Christ for his grace, mercy and redemptive work.

This is one of those that makes the wheels in my head turn. The pastor says there is no difference of expectation in the way someone in the pew dresses and the way a pastor or pastor's wife dresses. I would say based on Biblical principle, he is correct. But then he says he prays God kills him if someone ever sees him in public dressed in shorts or without a shirt. So it makes me wonder, does he think the same thing about others? Does he pray or even think that God should strike other people dead for dressing differently than what he thinks they should?

I am not saying he should not teach on modesty, or gluttony for that matter, but maybe with a little less self righteous justification knowing that he also would fall far short of the bar of perfection and holiness. These usually practice " All grace for me and none for thee"...

Hey so I see a problem with most IFB churches, as in they hold tight to tradition, and in many cases preach things that aren't biblically true. But the thing is, I'm conflicted. Because I really do believe that for the most part, what they preach is Biblically sound, and I would rather attend that kind of church, than say, a Hillsong church.
I know it is a commandment to be in fellowship with one another. So I wonder where grace comes in the picture here. Because I feel like no matter what church I fellowship with, there will always, always be points where I disagree, something or someone I dislike, but I feel like at the end of the day I'm going to have to deal with it somehow if I am going to have fellowship

@@adams1625You’re not alone, brother. I was in IFB church for 8 years and I agree it is better than something like Hillsong. But just because those two extremes exist doesn’t mean there aren’t balanced fellowships out there. Keep seeking and knocking and asking the Lord and He will lead you to where you need to be, or even leave you in IFB in order to minister to others there.
As far as surrendering your “all” to Him, stop trying to do it through your own efforts. That’s what I struggled with for years, too. Ask the Lord to show you what it looks like and where to begin. Too often we get the impression that surrender is instantaneous, and sometimes it may be. But I believe that as in anything else, it’s a process and even with reading the Bible or prayer, we are so needy and helpless that to really do it in the Spirit we actually need to humble ourselves and ask God to help us. And that is much of what surrender is, knowing that apart from His Holy Spirit moving in us, we really can’t do anything that isn’t works-based and fleshy.
      Hope that makes sense.
“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.” (2 Peter 1:3).

Bro, I understand how you feel and wish the best for you and will be praying for you. I would say be very discerning and don't let yourself take less than whatever God's best is for you. I'm not being super spiritual here but the church that you choose to go will shape your walk as a Christian. I would argue that the church you attend show have many deeds that point to Christ and not just words. They should have a good name in the community around them not from the congregates but the people who do not attend. The leadership should be well educated and the main pastor should have a good seminary degree that is accredited by multiple agencies. The leadership should not have legal troubles or be involved in things that a Christian would not be involved (part of the KKK, sexual allegations, etc). the church should be humble, not taken with vain traditions, not prone to cause divisions amongst the churches, seeks the well being of everybody; not just themselves (they feed the poor, take care of the downfallen, love their everyone as Jesus loves them, etc.) if you notice, this is all stuff that God commands all of us to do, not just pastors. Sadly, the IFB has a history of not doing any of these seriously and pay lip service to them all. I am sure there are IFB churches that do all these things well and they should be applauded. However, it will be hard work to figure out which Churches would; it's already hard enough to choose a church that does all the right things. Please be careful and I hope this helps :)

Yes, thank God for those who have a desire to live a holy life. That is what the Bible has called Christians to do.
If you notice, I would say the vast majority of those who post on the videos have a belief in godly living. What we find egregious is the idea of a man implying that God would strike people dead for not living a standard he is preaching. Though he did not explicitly say that, he certainly implied it when he said that there is the same expectation between the pulpit and the pew, and then said he prayed God would kill him if he wore shorts in public.
Contrast that with a sermon I heard yesterday from a pastor who has a heart for holiness and modesty, who preached what he believed the Bible said about it, even stricter than what I would personally see, but didn't have to use the "God strikes people dead" card to try and scare people into a way of life. The video is not about running down men of God, but understanding the extremes to which people go to put people in fear.

I used this last night with our youth group as an example of what happens when a church fails to practice solid Biblical exegesis. If a church is studying and teaching God's Word, phrase by phrase, verse by verse, and book by book, it is very difficult to maintain the positions and mindset shared in this video. What is ironic is that preachers like this believe they have a corner on the market of being biblical, when in reality they are mostly just shouting their opinions and cherry-picking verses that fire up their base, instead of rightly handling the Word of God. They are the ones who are not practicing and teaching truth.

So....show me where does scripture say modesty and passing out tracts are required for salvation.
Its all about an agenda. An us against them mentality. A lack of trusting that the Holy Ghost will cause a saved individual to dress appropriately and share the good news publicly is apparent in these preachers. It's also apparent they love to sit in their seat of authority and lord over their congregation with yokes of unnecessary rules and regulations that Jesus didnt place on us to begin with. We are FREE INDEED when we are In Christ!! These guys make me cringe.

What a shallow way to try to be Christlike.

Dude is just embarrassed to go to a pool party and have to take his shirt off. Creates a bunch on nonsensical pseudo-theology to justify his lack of confidence.

The problem with IFB is that they believe passing out tracts and not wearing shorts is how the world will know you are saved. The Bible says we will be known by the way we treat one another, and the way this pastor treats his congregation is like garbage…

He alluded to Deut 22:5, but made his own personally application equal to Scripture in authority. But the way he would walk away from the pulpit (and the Bible that he apparently stopped reading) to scream and shout was a turn off.

Show me in the Bible we’re not supposed to wear shorts? Show me in the Bible where my chest and shoulders his nakedness? Last time I checked, it’s from the knee to the belly button which is considered nakedness typical IFB bozo preaching the Commandments of men.

I would also like to know. As far as modesty, I do think its 100% Biblical for men to wear modest clothing. I'm not sure that means no shorts though... If you have ripped muscles, and wear those string shirts that bodybuilders wear, that I think would be immodest for men to wear. Or skin-tight clothing that shows off your body.

There could be something said for the length of the shorts. If you have bulging quads I think it could be seen as immodest to wear those shorts the ride above the knees. I think its valid to say that is immodest. But ALL SHORTS? I dont agree with that

When I go to the beach, I wear shorts that go down to at least my knees. That's my personal way of dressing. But I'm sure that I would be excoriated from the pulpit for being in a place where other people aren't dressed "modestly."

@@IFBPreachers Yeah I think there's some validity to this pastors claims, but ALL SHORTS? Yeah I think that's a strech

Where does it even say knees to belly button is nakedness? Maybe I'm missing the verses that clearly define this. I always viewed nakedness as without a covering. The covering being the shed blood of Christ.

Why can women show up to the bottom of their knee caps, but men can’t? 🫤
