How were you first inspired to memorize the Bible? For Lise, it was a result of the ministry of Janet Pope, and if you'd like to see the book she's written on Bible memory (which I highly recommend!), check it out here: geni.us/his-word-janet-pope
I was first inspired/convicted during the FWB National Convention where students compete in all kinds of categories (one being Bible memory). As I sat in on a session, I felt such conviction and started working on random verses that were important to me. Then I came across your interview with Keith Ferrin and was challenged to tackle larger passages and began memorizing the Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5-7). I completed it in 4 months. After that, I took a break from memorizing, and did a rapid read through the Bible in 90 days. Now I'm working on memorizing John 14-17. I'm encouraged by her testimony today, as I too am 52 years old and didn't start until later in life. Thank you for these videos, they are so helpful and encouraging.
I enjoy what Liz said about being busy and yet enjoying the blessing of memorizing scripture. She gave some interesting thoughts on how to keep memorizing,,a blessing and not a chore. I like to recite and recite, but I also like to write it down and say the verse out loud, I love to listen to your broadcast, so helpful.
Excellent, Lisa! And thank you, Josh, for posting this interview. I came to extended Bible memorization through a study of meditation. The saints of old didn't have personal copies of the Scriptures and HAD to memorize. But beyond that I realized that memorization is a perfect tool for meditation. It has been such a blessing. I hope to finish Galatians within a few weeks, then after some review, I have my eye on Romans. We'll see if I do that or change to something else.
Great interview. What I started to do during my devotions is meditate on my memory verse. Write it out. Then write a prayer from it. I also record the verse on a recording app so I can listen to it as I go about my day. I keep tying it and stopping it this channel is motivating me to be consistent.

So true! This idea of “daily time in the Word” looks so much different now than it did even 100 years ago.
