1:07-1:24 The *purpose* of going the Bible is to Spend time with God, and be with Him i.e. *relational* That was my favorite part, and what caused me to prioritize the time to listen to this entire interview. Good work in The Lord brothers. (thank u for not hiding this under a bushel)'
What I've done is copy and restructure the verse in OneNote with bold and highlights. The 2nd thing I will start doing is to create a mind storyboard of the keywords. I agree with the internalize part as I remember best what I use what I share.
Therefore become imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father]; and walk continually in love [that is, value one another-practice empathy and compassion, unselfishly seeking the best for others], just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and sacrifice to God [slain for you, so that it became] a sweet fragrance. But sexual immorality and all [moral] impurity [indecent, offensive behavior] or greed must not even be hinted at among you, as is proper among saints [for as believers our way of life, whether in public or in private, reflects the validity of our faith]. Let there be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse [obscene or vulgar] joking, because such things are not appropriate [for believers]; but instead speak of your thankfulness [to God]. For be sure of this: no immoral, impure, or greedy person-for that one is [in effect] an idolater-has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God [for such a person places a higher value on something other than God]. Let no one deceive you with empty arguments [that encourage you to sin], for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience [those who habitually sin]. So do not participate or even associate with them [in the rebelliousness of sin]. Ephesians 5:1-7 AMP
I wrote you in my [previous] letter not to associate with [sexually] immoral people- not meaning the immoral people of this world, or the greedy ones and swindlers, or idolaters, for then you would have to get out of the world and human society altogether! But actually, I have written to you not to associate with any so-called [Christian] brother if he is sexually immoral or greedy, or is an idolater [devoted to anything that takes the place of God], or is a reviler [who insults or slanders or otherwise verbally abuses others], or is a drunkard or a swindler-you must not so much as eat with such a person. For what business is it of mine to judge outsiders (non-believers)? Do you not judge those who are within the church [to protect the church as the situation requires]? God alone sits in judgment on those who are outside [the faith]. Remove the wicked one from among you [expel him from your church]. 1 Corinthians 5:9-13 AMP
I've been a Christian for 60 years and I don't recall ever hearing a sermon on the value of making a habit of internalizing or memorizing scripture. Now I'm feeling led to internalize scripture and I admit that I'm feeling terrified. Here I am learning and hearing wonderful YT videos gathering information and becoming more comfortable with starting to look at the Bible and God's word from a new perspective. Praying about NIV or NLT and starting with reading Philippians for 30 days. Thank you for this podcast. Love and blessings to all ❤✝
I put Scripture to music 🎶 and enjoy singing with Holy Spirit ❤. Over the years, the songs have bubbled up in my Spirit right when they are needed. Sometimes the same Scripture will play over and over in my heart ❤️ and joy fills my soul!
I'm at the same point and I feel the same. I was wondering if this feeling is normal in this circumstance, and then I found your comment. How are you feeling today after 4 months? Has this initial (terrifying) feeling changed?
@thehylers1021 I found out that John MacArthur chose a book of the Bible, and read through the same book everyday for 30days. setting the limit at 7chapters when reading through the longer books. writing down themes, observations & questions as he read. I started following that advice the same day I heard it. Starting with a short book such as James, and at times even reading through James multiple times in the same day if I had enough time. It has slowly renewed my mind, and the people in my life have noticed a change for the better. I find it much easier to take my thoughts captive, and set my mind on the things above. It has been so helpful! And has been worth every bit of time & effort! Last week, a co worker of mine who had been at my job for a month approached me, and opened up to me. He told me that I was different from everyone else there, that I was trustworthy. His situation is desperate, and He had no one whom He could confide in. I immediately made it clear that by reading the Bible daily, God used that to teach, correct, and warn me. I wasn't anyone virtuous on my own, It was ALL the Lord's work in my life. I shared as many truths about God's character as I could with him, Prayed with him, and invited him to church, and gave him my number. The following day, I gave him an NLT NT with practical helps written all throughout. He expressed hope, and an eagerness to learn who God really is. He looked forward to meeting my friends at church who used scripture to help me through a rough break up & an 8yr addiction to weed. Please pray for him. He's a 32y/o single father struggling with alcohol. The Lord deserves all the Glory!
June 2024. This the first time I’m hearing this. It makes total sense to me. I taught French (my birth language) and Spanish for thirty years. After 5 years of teaching, I put the books away and taught the students like I did my own daughters…. And it worked so much better. I see a lot of common thinking in this video. The relationship. The normalcy. I talked down a school board who wanted to spend $32,000 of your money on new books, written by Americans who have no idea how a language is acquired. . I told them not to. Instead buy real children books from France and Central America. I’m sharing this idea left and right. I’m in a house church. I will be reading and sharing this link. So, I started with the book of John. I know. I’m an overachiever. Always have been. A widow, I sit alone in the evening and read aloud. First time through, and I’m seeing things I’d never noticed before. I’m the bread of life: communion, etc. I’m averaging 4 to 5 chapters a night. Then I go to bed. His words stay with me through the night. I am an insomniac and I’m too often awake between 1 and 4am. Jesus’ words come back to me then and I go back to sleep. What a wonderful savior we serve!
The way you related learning a language and shifting from textbook/informational to a more natural/relational style is a perfect analogy/application to this conversation. I'M SO GLAD I'm a part of the family of God. Iron sharpens iron sister!❤
From Germany, I like every point of view. Reading out loud is, what we practice in our church. So often, I can tell you, who is the writer of those words, Peter, Paul, King David...and remember, oh it's right in the middle of this page, somewhere in John 14, vers 26, when Jesus told, promised his desicples, my Father will send the comforter, the Holy Spirit to you in my name and teach you everything, reminds you of everything, I've told and spoken to you! That is why, every serious christian needs an intimate, loving relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Father just wants to enjoy our presence, having very deep and dear fellowship. That is very encouraging. Read also the verses 22-25! So so comforting in our times of troubles! Amen
I've been a Christian for about 25 years. Lately, I've had this urge to understand God more. I've felt disappointed in myself for not knowing more. I'm thankful for the insight in this video. I think I've been seeking internalizing scripture but didn't know that's what it was until this video. I can't wait to read the Bible and spend meaningful time with God. Thank you ❤!
I was fortunate to see Keith in person presenting Phillipians, I want to say it was, at our church maybe 20 years ago. I remember being impressed with the sheer content he had memorized, certainly. The way he presented it as a whole letter, and delivered the letter personally to us--that was the real impact. I saw then, maybe for the first time, that Scripture wasn't just something to simply know or quote, but it was meant to be a deep part of our minds and our lives, truly transformative power.
I'm now excited to read the Bible. I've been struggling with having a personal relationship with the Lord because I've been taught to just sit quietly with him but my mind is always all over the place. I now see that that's just one aspect of spending time with Him. Thank you.
I'm ADHD; I know about 'all over the place.' I now find that little short '3 second prayers' throughout the day really work wonders. If scripture or spiritual thought comes to mind during the day, I say, "Thank you Jesus, show me more." I read the Bible in super small chunks now, and as I walk away I try to think of all the sermons, etc. related scriptures, etc, and prayers I can pray off that scripture. Sitting quietly definitely has its place though.
@@Lisa-ql5wr whenever I'm all over the place, I just got out I just go all over the place. Usually when I wear myself out, I sit down I don't know what to say so I reach for the truth. Just simply start talking. He knows I'm out of control. You sit near patiently wait for you to say Lord I'm out of control. No matter what I do, I can't seem to sit still. Lord I simply know I need your help. Then the holy spirit moves.
This makes sense to me! I never learned how to study because school was easy. Scripture in this manner is so much more natural than forced memorization.
Yes, the same for me until I hit my ceiling at University, and so I’d never learned how to study and work at it. Very hard. Now when I find something interesting I tend to deep dive and obsess rather than do sensible research. Anyway, I shall try this, it seems so natural and sensible. And I like the idea of reading it aloud, or hearing it read. This makes sense too because Paul’s audience in the churches had the letters read to them. How many were themselves literate, or allowed to borrow the letter and take it home. Now I’m older I find hearing words as well as reading them myself helps get it into my brain. When I get 2 factor codes through on my phone, I say them out loud, or forget them! 2 routes into the brain.
I learned a lot from this method! I have been feeling that my focus on memorization is not quite where it should be but didn’t know how to describe it. I love the thought of internalization as the first goal. Thank you for bringing me back around to the priority.
This is so so very good! Many people teach on memorizing with grocery lists and mnemonic devices but not understanding or contextual meaning. Like a child learning multiplication tables without understanding that 4 x 5 ….., means (5+5+5+5= 20) All very random and thoughtless!!! I am very excited to learn of your approach!!!👏🏻
I bought a Bible without chapters or verses. That made it a lot easier to see it as a whole. That's being said, when I found something I wanted to keep track of, I pulled out my Bible in my phone to search the phrase and then marked my observation in my paper Bible. Stick to it. It comes faster as time goes on.
I follow Keith on his YT channel and am a member of his Bible Life Community which i enjoy very much and is truly helping me in my study of the Bible. Because of that, it led me to you and your YT channel tonight to watch Keith's video with you. Afterwards, I looked over the rest of your videos and joined your YT channel and FB page. I'm looking forward to watching your videos and telling my friends about it.
That was a relief. I’m so tired of people telling me to memorize and I’ve got poor recall and I felt that I don’t have a memory at all. This is slower more in-depth much more fun and makes more sense. Thank you.
This just popped up in my feed today, and I’m so grateful it did. I have struggled to memorize scripture word for word for years ( I’m 65). But many verses I know where they are, at least by book, and can give a paraphrase. They are verses or passages I’ve studied over the years and become familiar with. This method makes so much sense to me! It fits my learning style and takes the pressure off that I feel because I struggle so with “normal” memorization methods. Definitely will be looking into Keith’s courses. It’s never too late!
Love this! Headed to check out Keith Ferri 's resources now (and to reach out for the link he offered your views 😊). I love the challenge to Internalize with our hearts, not just memorize with our minds, "knowing the Word, not just knowing the words". Scripture is "relational not just informational".😊
Memorisation is the foundation of Islamic belief, so many know the words but few have any clue what they are saying or live it! I was raised Jehovahs Witnesse and they drum into you memorisation of scripture but again the majority miss the entire point and live lives contrary to the gospel. Much more important to take a verse and ensure you fully understand it, implement it and live it! Spot on and great to hear someone put it so well! 🙌🙌🙌
Ridiculous. Blows me away that someone would try to discourage another Christian from memorizing scripture. By the way here's how I know that you're wrong. One night carpooling to church with couple friends to another county, I asked them if they knew of any christian books or sermons showing a good method. Half an hour later a visiting preacher delivers a sermon on committing scripture to memory. 3 days later at my church, yet another visiting preacher delivered another sermon on memorizing scripture. It had not been preached for years in three church. When he gave the title of the sermon, everyone laughed because they knew it was the Lord giving the message in reality. And then there's you demonizing scripture memorization, and how dare you, comparing it to Islam. How about talk to the lord before you open your mouth especially when instructing others.
If you were raised jehovahs witness then you weren't saved then. They believe in another Jesus, not the Jesus of the bible. So you were a natural man, and the bible says a natural man receiveth not the things of God. So of course you wouldn't understand the scriptures.
I also memorize scripture but these days I want to get deeper so I have this prompting to read each book twice or thrice now this video came praise God for his ways Thank you so much brother
Word perfect, punctuation perfect? I don’t know that I could ever depart from memorizing this way. However, your guest is right on with the point about internalizing. Is the Word in our hearts and therefore visible through our lives, or is it stuck in our big religious heads? Bible Memory Goal has always featured guests that value heart knowledge-amen! I used to be an academic-I still am in some ways-but the Lord has shown me the importance of meditation and internalization. Blessings Josh, Reverend Darren McClelland ✝️🙏🙂
I’m glad you heard the overall message here. It’s not that Keith thinks that being word-perfect is bad or wrong, it’s simply that this isn’t the ultimate goal of memorization.
This was very encouraging! I appreciate how the motive for memory is to internalize. I think that's what we all want, and there are different ways to do so. 😊
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" - Proverbs 1:7 heart version "Sanctify them by thy word, thy word is truth" -The Gospel of John 17:17 heart version. "My people perish for a lack of knowledge" -Hosea 4:6 heart version
I love it when I find something that seems so natural, and as I always say I'm hopeless at quoting Bible verses all I have to do now is recognise where the passage or concept is found rather than having to search to find it. And the relational Bible study may be the way
Hi i just came across your channel iam saved for almost 30yrs i had tried and tried to memorize scripture and have been praying to God to help me to remember the scripture i cant to be honest i only know 5 scriptures but what i can tell u your method work didnt try it yet but i can say your method work i always just read the books of the bible so if any person who preach out the bible i can finish their sentences
I enjoy memorizing God's word, for several reasons; His word is like a faraday cage for my mind. Many scriptures point to this. David said, "Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee". And I also have learned, that Holy Spirit shows you hidden things from verses that you memorized that you may have missed or didn't discern before. Also memorization is good for the brain. I read research that shows the potential for warding of alzheimers.
I’m a pastor and I wish I learned this in seminary. I was very blessed by this and it’s inspired to relearn a different approach to the Bible. Thank you for this content.
I think Keith's approach "internalization" (LOVE that word!!!) is gonna be a game changer for me. I have been wanting to memorizing whole books, but it's just not working like I want. And he's right, I always forget later on. I so want to internalize the stories and not just memorize the words! Thank you so much! Totally gonna check out Keith's courses too!
I read through the Bible four times a year for six years. My first year I was amazed at the way I began to connect with the whole Bible. I have been ill and my sight is causing me problems. I miss reading that way
This might just be the most IMPORTANT, HELPFUL and PRACTICAL video I've seen in a long time. This approach in USING and ENJOYING the bible should be FUNDAMENTAL for all believers, especially those who are new in the faith, they MUST SEE THIS VIDEO FIRST. 👏👏👏
This was so encouraging! I’ve always had a problem with being told to memorize a verse everyday. We’re usually not encouraged to learn the context as much as to just memorize the words. Keith’s method feels right to my soul.
I definitely liked Keith's emphasis on "being soaked by the Word" and ensuring that is the focus over pure memorization with the goal being that its there to transform our lives (Rom 12:2). Sometimes I'll have a verse "memorized" but it actually isn't perfect word-by-word but what I call my own personal paraphrased version which I've come to learn is still immensely valuable. When I debate whether I should make it a premium to make it perfect, I remember how even different translations are varied but I certainly care to ensure I don't miss key elements, so its a gradual path toward completion.
Wow, mind blowing🙏 Just hav to get in-depth into this...though am not I.T.savvy to really get into it,but then God knows my capabilities & am so grateful. From Fiji Is wth love❤️🙏🙏🙏
This completely changed the way I look at things. I had been wondering why I'd been feeling... I don't know- unfulfilled?- in my Bible studies. The straightforward way it was explained as a relationship woke me up from a very critical mindset. I was slipping back into old legalistic habits without even knowing it; thank you! I'll probably come back to this video a few times in-order to really let the message sink home, but the core of "internalization", "memorization as a tool", and "watch the movie before studying it", have really rocked the way I was looking at things. I had been wondering why it felt like I knew so much and so little at the same time, and this is why. I've been knowing of God, but failing to take the time to KNOW Him. I've been missing the point of studying Scripture. This video took what the Holy Spirit had been trying to tell me and brought it all together. He used it to teach me something I thought I knew.
If you're born again, if God placed His Spirit in you and you read His words everyday , God's word flows naturally like breathing oxygen for every situation you face. Your helper The Holy Spirit helps you.
Oh Pastor back again. I wanted to share this with you too day, two of reading the book of Philippians out loud to myself after a morning bike ride. what I recalled this morning when getting to Philippians 4:8 I recalled that to myself say Selah You’ve been including in this verse in your prayers a lot in the last week or two. I suppose that’s another indication of internalizing the scripture when it comes up during a prayer need when you’re going into intercession or supplications. Whatever God has put your heart by the Holy Spirit. Again, Pastor, thanks so much for your encouragement
So I listened to this video again to internalize God’s word. This is the 2nd in a year. I have a poor memory in general because of cognitive challenges. I believe I internalize God’s word as an adaptive gift by the LORD to nourish me. Thanks for explaining this principle for now. I enjoy focusing on the biblical verse or precept from the song to recall the verse and the book of the Bible like I am doing now driving along all as My wife drives. So far 4 songs 4 books 4 verses. 👍 Thanks
Thank you so much ! A few weeks ago, God put it on my heart to get His word in my bone marrow,at least that's how I look at it. I'm really interested in this study method .
I love Keith's heart for the word of God and the intention of why we write on our heart. Awesome I feel like I have met my people, believers that love God's word like I do. Thank you Josh!
I will definitely start to do this . I battle to study dont really know where to start, but this way, I believe it is going to be the start of my getting deeper into the Bible. Thank you. ❤
Thank you so much for your teaching I am dyslexic. And have struggled my entire life. I'm now 71 and the Lord drew me. You gave me understanding. I'm to draw near to him. Hi, now read his word out loud all the time. It is a depth of fellowship i've never had before. High hunger for your instruction. That my fellowship with God would be complete. He drew me to where I am. And Presented your teaching To me On this day to encourage me. He knows me and what I need. Thank you for your obedience encouragement
Lots of very good information but it’s dangerous to not go back to the original language just like not going to context. Your message of not all at one time is true. The original language is so very accessible now there is no reason to not check it out at some point. The original languages are so much clearer than English that it also clears up misinterpretation and misunderstanding often, just like context.
Thank you very much for this interview, Josh! I had started memorizing Ephesians 6:10-20, and im doing ok wirh it, but i think i should do when he said and start memorizing the whole book. I anticipate that it will stick easier and I'll enjoy the whole book internalizing more too. Thanks so much Keith! I can't wait to start! ❤❤
Thank you to you both‼️ And as I grow closer to God he leads me to podcasts that, like this one have been like stepping stones to where Our Father is leading me.
We aren't to be white washed tombs, we aren't to have a form of religion and have no power or strength. We aren't to present ourselves as knowing yet have no knowledge of the personhood of God and his precious Son our Savior. Can you give up EVERYTHING of this Earth for the RELATIONSHIP with our Savior? I want to keep my knowledge like a child's pristine mind able to trust the one who created me.
@@BibleMemoryGoal I live it to the best of my human ability, I have always said you can read the Psalms in a month and Proverbs at the same time. If you use the Gregorian calendar and start tomorrow it would be Psalms 10, 40, 70, 100, 130 then Proverbs 10; if you can't see the progression in a pattern of Grace and Justice to set just a couple of areas then pick a word that resonates with your life today and write it down, look up and write down everywhere it is written in the scriptures. I say it's better than just internalizing the Word rather you have only two ways to go be angry enough to stop reading and put your walk with God on hold, or be more hungry for his Word seeing how it comes alive in your life. It's a challenge. I've done the memorization and internalizing and found my own path to learn and understand using dictionaries in these specific languages Hebrew to English, Chaldean to English, and then also the Greek to English to better understand the Word. You should also utilize a Strong's Concordance. Never ever begin reading the Scriptures without seeking guidance and help from the Holy Spirit to know exactly what is to be learned to apply to your life today. It's a focal point direction that has blessed me for now over twenty years.
I spent two years in 1969 in a Rabbinical Seminary in Jerusalem, Israel. We learned the way Jesus learned. We read aloud and internalized everything, many times. Most people knew the entire Torah very well. In fact, traditional Jewish texts refer to the first two or three words of the verse and expect the reader to fill in the rest on their own. It is like saying, oh, remember the story of when the family car broke down on our trip to visit grandma? Everyone knows the rest. You don't need to tell the story. We are all the revelation of God.
I think the important element of this, for me, is to hear two totally unrelated brothers talking about having relationship with YHWH, the Maker of heaven and earth. My current project is learning Biblical Hebrew. Some of Keith's insights apply. How did we learn our native language from birth? Immersion, not by rote. We learn the meaning of a word or phrase when we get to use it to express meaning to others. RELATIONSHIP. Oh, how i wish church, you would have a relationship with your Maker...
We had an older preacher who came to our church years ago for revival. I was amazed that he could quote whole chapters during his preaching. He said the same thing you do that he didn't just memorize, he read and read until the chapter or book became part of him. The thing I remember vividly was what a difference his preaching was, he preached and the verses just flowed from him like singing, I still remember alot of the messages. You could tell it wasn't just memorized verses, but they seemed alive, I believe it's exactly as you say, you can't possibly read the living book and not have a relational life with Christ, what a difference our Christian lives would be if we applied your approach to not just knowing the Bible, but knowing the One, who gave us this magnificent book, great video, thanks for sharing!
I am 21 years old and have been a Christian all my life. I decided to read books of the nee testament but I get frustrated when a book I took so much time to study becomes strange after a short while. This year I decided to memorize portions of the bible and this view has really given me momentum for this new challenge. Thanks so much.
As a teacher, I am amazed that we aren't taught this. Kids get bored becasue they have no hook to hang a fact on t. A brain science fact I learned is that the brain 9 in all people , all ages , all of history , wants ONE thing. What could that possibly be for everyone. It is MEANING . and people all need purpose and significance. without those mental health isnt whole. see eph 2:10 for all in one place and note the good works are prepared beforehand- so our interests are important for our destiny. iOne teen was suspended and I asked him how he would change school . "I wish I could learn one thing a day that I am interested in.! Anyway, I never thought of any of this , and this changes how I am going to spend my Bible time today , and your way will change my life. I struggle with depression, and need to remember the scriptures to get out of it. But they dont saturate me , so they are ineffective for such a soul soaked problem I believe this way will also comfort me, because I dont know when the Holy Spirit comforts me the other way. no experience of it much. Thank you .
It's my prayer to our LORD GOD JEHOVAH, to allow HIS Holy Spirit to Grace me with Revelation *and* Understanding of HIS Heart & The Living WORD, whenever I SUP *with/ in* HIM (HOLY BIBLE), to please hide HIS WORD in my heart. The WORD *is* Living and HIS Holy Spirit provides different Revelations through the same verse(s). It's a moot point to recall words and not *know* THE LIVING WORD Himself. Thank you kindly, for such a blessing of a video!
"Judge not lest ye be judged" remember? "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you" remember? Delilah cuts Samson's hair, remember? The lion shall lie down with the lamb, remember? Pray before you read the bible, for The Holy Spirit to lead you into right understanding and to truly know the voice of the good shepherd. Shar Shalom.
Now look the verses up, these are all altered now. The Pharisees knew scriptures and didn't recognize Jesus nor did they recognize God. There is a list on my channel titled, supernatural Bible changes that discusses the ongoing changes to bibles. There are many videos showing forensic evidence / proof that bibles are now changing. The Holy Spirit will confirm. The word of God is now being preserved in the body of Christ who wrote the word in their hearts as instructed. This is a lot to deal with. How is it happening? Why is God allowing this? What is the right response? Why do so many people not see or deny that bibles are changing?
@@BibleMemoryGoal How long ago did you begin memorizing scriptures? I ask this because the majority of changes to ink on pages seems to have occurred recently, within the last 8 years so with regards to examining the changes some people have memorized ( or also memorized ) the recent changes. One change is that in today's Bible God has the strength of a unicorn, where previously God has the strength of an ox. These changes should be something that people are aware of. The answer is to follow Jesus, hear and obey His voice. There are some people who know scriptures yet their heart is far from God. In effect they do not love The Truth above every other thing. There are very very few who are talking about changes to bibles, concordances, dictionaries, audio sermons as of yet. The changes to bibles are self evident and undeniable to any who take time to examine this carefully. If you deny changes, now you have to contort into explaining verses that are not inspired and do not align with God's Truth and character. Jesus is now called an "it" and a "thing" in the KJV Bible. Yet my Savior is neither of those. Perhaps this issue not being addressed is similar to the rich young ruler. Is God's name Jealous ? Do men have breasts that are full of milk? Does Paul rob other churches or does he take alms from other churches? Does Jesus say "sleep on" in the garden of Gethsemane? What does The Holy Spirit affirm? These are amazing days in which to have been selected to live. With Prophecies happening in real time, we too have The Word of God made more sure. The underpinnings, the foundation of our faith is Jesus of Nazareth, the hope of Glory. Blessings as you seek for treasure with ALL of your heart. - Bryan
Great advice, thanks so much. When you are reading over & over do you use the same translation? Psa 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. (Another great reason to internalize God's Word)
I got so caught up in the amazing words of encouragement that I almost didn’t leave mine. I will be looking more deeply into this. Not just for my Bible students, but also for the enrichment of my relationship with Him. Thank you for this. I also give the Holy Spirit thanks for leading me to this podcast and specifically telling me to listen to it. He is worthy to be praised!
Thank you. I am very thankful that I came across this video. I am so excited this has helped me very much. This is exactly what I needed. God knew that I needed this. Praise God for His grace and love.
A lot of work went into memorizing nkjv, but now I like esv. I no longer think that matters I’ll just pick up where I left off with esv. I’m gonna start with Philippians. I memorized John 1-2. Gonna pick up where I left off after Phil. Thanks!
Question: when it comes to Proverbs, is there a specific in retaining? I have a difficult time retaining chapters, because it's like 20-30 lessons per chap. Thank you' *That* was a beautiful presentation of seeking God with all your heart. Quite a few things we can apply immediately, and his method is not legalistic or sleepy. The Lord bless you for giving some wisdom freely to all with ears to hear.
I wish I had heard this much earlier in my life. Wonderful. Just wanted to hear this. Every word. Unlike what I see in u tube of late. Just plain GREAT. Thank u may God bless you for solving my greatest problem of memorization❤
Much wisdom in what you say. When saved I actually did this after reading through the NT once. Over the years I’ve developed a bad habit of making reading through the Bible the only goal. Thank you for this because it “revitalized” me. God bless.
I’m 82 years old and I know exactly what you mean and totally agree with you. When memory of words start failing I believe its to say what you know and know what you say not just how you say them..that can be confusing sometimes especially at my age when you start forgetting some things.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and ways of internalization of the Bible. To me, your appraoch is the best way to both understanding Scripture and memorizing it. The final goal is to understand correctly and apply what God teaches us into our daily lives. It's truly the way that we can meditate God's Word. It encourage me to try as I've been learning to memorize verses here and there for sometimes. May God bless you both abundantly in encouraging others to learn God's Word.
Outstanding podcast. Motivating to hear someone dedicated to reading God’s word so much. TIME. Time with God and a dedicated, focused effort to spend immense TIME in His word. Great example of what it takes to know Him. We know our spouses because we live with them day in and day out. We need to be word in and word out daily!
When each one wd ACTivate: Heb 8:10; 10:16 In a "burger-King" exercise with Rom 10:8>10 one wd have no need to memorize scriptures. But pictographical-ly embed, inscribed, en-grafted into The Vine?!
I absolutely love this teaching on internalizing God’s good Word with a relationship with Jesus. I know God led me to this interview. I’m thinking that reading some of books of the Bible like this, over and over to children would change their whole understanding of having a relationship with God instead of just knowing about God. It would, no doubt, increase their faith and not have to struggle with questions and frustrations their whole life. Thank you so much!
1:1-5 King James Version (KJV)In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. John 14:6 New International Version 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Why can I read a novel for an hour or two and know the storyline but whe it comes to reading scriptures I can’t retain anything even after taking an hour to read even one chapter?
@@BibleMemoryGoal I had been listening to the Thru the Bible Program for more than 30 years. I had learned a lot about the Word of GOD by listening to the program but sometimes J Vernon McGee could get long winded when doing sidebars that my mind wanders or I begin to lose focus

The *purpose* of going the Bible is to Spend time with God, and be with Him i.e. *relational*
That was my favorite part, and what caused me to prioritize the time to listen to this entire interview.

‘ To know the Word not just the words’ - how profound
👍🏻
I've been a Christian for 60 years and I don't recall ever hearing a sermon on the value of making a habit of internalizing or memorizing scripture. Now I'm feeling led to internalize scripture and I admit that I'm feeling terrified. Here I am learning and hearing wonderful YT videos gathering information and becoming more comfortable with starting to look at the Bible and God's word from a new perspective. Praying about NIV or NLT and starting with reading Philippians for 30 days. Thank you for this podcast. Love and blessings to all ❤✝
You’ve got this! One small step at a time.
Search John Piper - he recites scripture as sermon
Just “Hang out with Jesus!”--it doesn’t get any better than that.
👍🏻👍🏻
Amen! Jesus is a good guy to hang out with! ;)

Amen 🙏🏼♥️🕊️
This is refreshing… you are talking about not only knowing the book but building a strong relationship with the Author who inspired the book
Exactly 👍🏻
So glad you enjoyed the interview! Thanks for the comment.
I love this comment. Very interesting. Thank you for sharing. ❤
Those sound like great habits, Sister.
Thank you so much for sharing your insights. I'm so looking forward to "taking a different tac."
The way you related learning a language and shifting from textbook/informational to a more natural/relational style is a perfect analogy/application to this conversation. I'M SO GLAD I'm a part of the family of God. Iron sharpens iron sister!❤
Don’t read just to remember; read to realize.
Catchy

Amen! Revelation revealed by the Holy Spirit. Thank you Heavenly Father for your Son Lord Jesus and Holy Spirit and this Ministry ✝️
Amen
Amen!
28:19-- "Memorize the story first, then use the words on the page to tell, the story.."
👍
When Bruce said that to me it changed everything!
YES! THIS!
@@lindatyler3645 Amen!
Wonderful!
Very well said, Tom. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing this experience 🙏 ❤😊
Hey brother! What church was it? I'm so encouraged to hear this!
I'm now excited to read the Bible. I've been struggling with having a personal relationship with the Lord because I've been taught to just sit quietly with him but my mind is always all over the place. I now see that that's just one aspect of spending time with Him. Thank you.
👍🏻👍🏻🙏
👍🏻👌
Glad it was helpful!
This is so so very good! Many people teach on memorizing with grocery lists and
mnemonic devices but not understanding or contextual meaning.
Like a child learning multiplication tables without understanding
that 4 x 5 ….., means (5+5+5+5= 20)
All very random and thoughtless!!!
I am very excited to learn of your approach!!!👏🏻
Thanks, Laura 👍🏻
I'm so excited to read the Bible stories as stories instead of verses!
👍🏻🎉

Thanks so much! I hope you enjoy what you find.
Never too late 🙌👏
Love this! Headed to check out Keith Ferri 's resources now (and to reach out for the link he offered your views 😊). I love the challenge to Internalize with our hearts, not just memorize with our minds, "knowing the Word, not just knowing the words". Scripture is "relational not just informational".😊
So glad it was encouraging to you, Jennifer!
The word of God is a powerful sword when we encounter the forces of evil .Hebrews 4 verse 11.
👍🏻👍🏻

It’s Hebrews4:12 madam
Truly encouraging. Memorising is an element in internalising….wow that was powerful. God bless you both.
Thanks 🙏
Thanks
Memorisation is the foundation of Islamic belief, so many know the words but few have any clue what they are saying or live it! I was raised Jehovahs Witnesse and they drum into you memorisation of scripture but again the majority miss the entire point and live lives contrary to the gospel. Much more important to take a verse and ensure you fully understand it, implement it and live it! Spot on and great to hear someone put it so well! 🙌🙌🙌
Agreed
No it's not. I looked it up and no it's not. They mention everything but that.
Internalizing isn't hiding scripture in your heart.
I also memorize scripture but these days I want to get deeper so I have this prompting to read each book twice or thrice now this video came praise God for his ways
Thank you so much brother
👍🏻🙏
Amen. Getting the "words" right is wonderful...as long as the primary focus is on knowing the WORD first! Thanks Darren!
This was very encouraging! I appreciate how the motive for memory is to internalize. I think that's what we all want, and there are different ways to do so. 😊
Agreed. 👍
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" - Proverbs 1:7 heart version
"Sanctify them by thy word, thy word is truth" -The Gospel of John 17:17 heart version.
"My people perish for a lack of knowledge" -Hosea 4:6 heart version
🙌👍🏻
I love it when I find something that seems so natural, and as I always say I'm hopeless at quoting Bible verses all I have to do now is recognise where the passage or concept is found rather than having to search to find it. And the relational Bible study may be the way
That’s awesome 👏
Hi i just came across your channel iam saved for almost 30yrs i had tried and tried to memorize scripture and have been praying to God to help me to remember the scripture i cant to be honest i only know 5 scriptures but what i can tell u your method work didnt try it yet but i can say your method work i always just read the books of the bible so if any person who preach out the bible i can finish their sentences
👍🏻
I enjoy memorizing God's word, for several reasons; His word is like a faraday cage for my mind. Many scriptures point to this. David said, "Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee". And I also have learned, that Holy Spirit shows you hidden things from verses that you memorized that you may have missed or didn't discern before. Also memorization is good for the brain. I read research that shows the potential for warding of alzheimers.
👏👏🙌
I’m a pastor and I wish I learned this in seminary. I was very blessed by this and it’s inspired to relearn a different approach to the Bible. Thank you for this content.
Thanks so much for the encouraging comment!
Thank you Kieth. I try your method starting with Philippines. I have a tough time memorizing verses.
You can do it!

Glad it was helpful!
This was so encouraging! I’ve always had a problem with being told to memorize a verse everyday. We’re usually not encouraged to learn the context as much as to just memorize the words. Keith’s method feels right to my soul.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Exactly. Some times "word perfect" isn't the ultimate goal.
I love this point: "Internalize" instead of "Memorize".
Exactly.
Wow, mind blowing🙏
Just hav to get in-depth into this...though am not I.T.savvy to really get into it,but then God knows my capabilities & am so grateful.

That's encouraging to hear. I hope that you're able to rekindle that passion for studying God's Word!
Wow! Such a blessing to read your comment. Praise God!

Thanks 🙏
He spoke my language when he described it as INTERNALIZATION. MY HEART CONNECTED. THANK YOU❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
👍 Thanks
Excellent 👍🏻
GREAT interview Josh! This was very encouraging to me.
Thanks, Scott!
Most encouraging video on biblestudy and memorization I’ve ever seen!🙏🏽 Thanks to the both of you!
Wow, thank you!
Thank you so much ! A few weeks ago, God put it on my heart to get His word in my bone marrow,at least that's how I look at it. I'm really interested in this study method .
That's encouraging to hear, Eric!
Put sela after every paragraph, think on this, study concepts , compare scripture with scripture.
👍🏻
I love Keith's heart for the word of God and the intention of why we write on our heart. Awesome I feel like I have met my people, believers that love God's word like I do. Thank you Josh!
My pleasure, Sharon!
I will definitely start to do this . I battle to study dont really know where to start, but this way, I believe it is going to be the start of my getting deeper into the Bible. Thank you. ❤
You can do it!
This takes so much pressure off and makes so much sense biologically and spiritually!🙌
Awesome!
I appreciate the 2 for 1 offer, but it’s still too much. If I do what you’ve said in this video will that be enough to make progress?
Of course
Thank you so much for your teaching I am dyslexic.
And have struggled my entire life. I'm now 71 and the Lord drew me. You gave me understanding. I'm to draw near to him. Hi, now read his word out loud all the time. It is a depth of fellowship i've never had before. High hunger for your instruction.

Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it, Simon.
Thank you Josh for this wonderful interview. 👍
My pleasure, Clement 👍🏻
Lots of very good information but it’s dangerous to not go back to the original language just like not going to context. Your message of not all at one time is true. The original language is so very accessible now there is no reason to not check it out at some point. The original languages are so much clearer than English that it also clears up misinterpretation and misunderstanding often, just like context.
Is studying the original languages helpful? Absolutely. Does that mean you can’t memorize the translation and get benefit from it? Definitely not.
That's awesome to hear, Lori!
Thank you to you both‼️ And as I grow closer to God he leads me to podcasts that, like this one have been like stepping stones to where Our Father is leading me.
I love it! Thanks for watching and sharing.
Ok, so does that mean you are or aren’t internalizing it?
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing, Harold.
👍🏻
Great, great,great!!!
I watched it 3 times
and counting...
Game changed
Thanks❤❤❤
Glad you enjoy it!
I am 21 years old and have been a Christian all my life. I decided to read books of the nee testament but I get frustrated when a book I took so much time to study becomes strange after a short while. This year I decided to memorize portions of the bible and this view has really given me momentum for this new challenge. Thanks so much.
Awesome! 👏
Context wow moments. Absolutely. “Be still and know that I am God” being another case in point
Sure 👍🏻
Wow.... Now I want to internalize the Bible too
Excellent!
Otherwise how can Luke 12:12 manifest? Just being with Jesus...the best...so grateful for indwelling Presence
👍
Thank you .
👍🏻🙏
Thank you very much. This talk is inspiring, motivating. Hope for me, in my old age to internalise and memorise. Be blessed, both of you.
You can do it!
👍🏻🙌
Internalise.
Please like this comment so i can come back to it.
There you go
"Judge not lest ye be judged" remember?
"Do unto others as you would have others do unto you" remember?
Delilah cuts Samson's hair, remember?
The lion shall lie down with the lamb, remember?
Pray before you read the bible, for The Holy Spirit to lead you into right understanding and to truly know the voice of the good shepherd. Shar Shalom.
Ok…?

How long ago did you begin memorizing scriptures?
- Bryan
Thanks for sharing this content. I can relate more to this guy than anyone else I’ve watched on your channel.
That’s great to hear!
Great advice, thanks so much. When you are reading over & over do you use the same translation?
Psa 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. (Another great reason to internalize God's Word)
Yes, I do.
Life changing insights from this conversation 😃
Awesome!
In German you should write:
"Lernen Sie die Bible nicht auswendig"
instead of
"Merken Sie sich die Bibel nicht"
Blessings, Gerhard
Thanks
@@BibleMemoryGoal You are very welcome, thank you for your response
I got so caught up in the amazing words of encouragement that I almost didn’t leave mine. I will be looking more deeply into this. Not just for my Bible students, but also for the enrichment of my relationship with Him. Thank you for this. I also give the Holy Spirit thanks for leading me to this podcast and specifically telling me to listen to it. He is worthy to be praised!
Wonderful! God bless :)
Amen! Soooo "spot on"/"bull's eye"! 🎯 And I so love the many-faceted DESCRIPTION/s of how/why this way works! Thank you for sharing this!
You are so welcome
Author audience atmosphere❤
👍🏻
Since I've been off my meds for my ADHD. It's been so hard for me to read and remember much at all! It sux!!
So sorry!
Thank you. I am very thankful that I came across this video. I am so excited this has helped me very much. This is exactly what I needed. God knew that I needed this. Praise God for His grace and love.
Glad it was helpful!
I LOVE, "Know The WORD, not just the words." That's RELATIONSHIP and I LOVE it! Yes Lord Jesus! Yes! Yes! Yes!
👍🏻👍🏻
I have been preaching for 15 years plus. And the information in here is GOLD. can’t wait to apply these
Awesome 🙏
A lot of work went into memorizing nkjv, but now I like esv. I no longer think that matters I’ll just pick up where I left off with esv. I’m gonna start with Philippians. I memorized John 1-2. Gonna pick up where I left off after Phil. Thanks!
🙏🙏
Question: when it comes to Proverbs, is there a specific in retaining?
I have a difficult time retaining chapters, because it's like 20-30 lessons per chap. Thank you'
*That* was a beautiful presentation of seeking God with all your heart.
Quite a few things we can apply immediately, and his method is not legalistic or sleepy.
The Lord bless you for giving some wisdom freely to all with ears to hear.
Each method has its own strengths, but retention comes in how you review.

I wish I had heard this much earlier in my life. Wonderful. Just wanted to hear this. Every word. Unlike what I see in u tube of late. Just plain GREAT. Thank u may God bless you for solving my greatest problem of memorization❤
You are so welcome
Much wisdom in what you say. When saved I actually did this after reading through the NT once. Over the years I’ve developed a bad habit of making reading through the Bible the only goal. Thank you for this because it “revitalized” me. God bless.
Blessings to you as well.
I’m 82 years old and I know exactly what you mean and totally agree with you. When memory of words start failing I believe its to say what you know and know what you say not just how you say them..that can be confusing sometimes especially at my age when you start forgetting some things.
👍🏻🙏
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and ways of internalization of the Bible. To me, your appraoch is the best way to both understanding Scripture and memorizing it. The final goal is to understand correctly and apply what God teaches us into our daily lives. It's truly the way that we can meditate God's Word. It encourage me to try as I've been learning to memorize verses here and there for sometimes. May God bless you both abundantly in encouraging others to learn God's Word.
Thank you 🙏
Outstanding podcast. Motivating to hear someone dedicated to reading God’s word so much. TIME. Time with God and a dedicated, focused effort to spend immense TIME in His word. Great example of what it takes to know Him. We know our spouses because we live with them day in and day out. We need to be word in and word out daily!
Amen!
So right ❤️
Praise the Lord Christ Jesus 🙏
🙏🙏
This was extremely good. His method for relational reading and memory is outstanding. I definitely will be using it.
👍🏻👍🏻
The church I used to go to read the same scripture every week for over a year, I know it's in Timothy but couldn't say what verse.
3:16?
When each one wd ACTivate:
Heb 8:10; 10:16
In a "burger-King" exercise with
Rom 10:8>10 one wd have no need to memorize scriptures.
But pictographical-ly embed, inscribed, en-grafted into The Vine?!
👍🏻
I absolutely love this teaching on internalizing God’s good Word with a relationship with Jesus. I know God led me to this interview. I’m thinking that reading some of books of the Bible like this, over and over to children would change their whole understanding of having a relationship with God instead of just knowing about God. It would, no doubt, increase their faith and not have to struggle with questions and frustrations their whole life. Thank you so much!
🙏🙏
1:1-5 King James Version (KJV)In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
John 14:6
New International Version
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
👍🏻
love time, not content...thanks...Always focused on chapter or books...but all books are week long at 35-40 mins a day[??Psalms maybe 10 days]
👍🏻
Why can I read a novel for an hour or two and know the storyline but whe it comes to reading scriptures I can’t retain anything even after taking an hour to read even one chapter?
Could be a number of reasons. Perhaps you can try listening to Scripture or reading just a few verses instead of chapters.
@@BibleMemoryGoal I had been listening to the Thru the Bible Program for more than 30 years. I had learned a lot about the Word of GOD by listening to the program but sometimes J Vernon McGee could get long winded when doing sidebars that my mind wanders or I begin to lose focus
