I really enjoyed the fall version of these flowers. I was happily surprised! I love color so much that I never noticed how fascinating and unique their shapes are once they shed their blooms and their more vibrant colors. I sigh unhappily when my color is gone. Now I find myself eager to search out what some of my favorite flowers become in the fall. I'm hoping to find more color in the range like the sepia.(How to mute red- rust so it isn't mud?). The sepia is really rich yet subdued in your art. I like the way it's softer, muted. Fall colors can burst out, they are just that incredible. Yet the less defined, quieter side is there as well. Seeing that side in a positive light is a revelation. I want to see more than just 'brown' this dreary Seattle winter. Thank you for helping me, oddly, look forward to my flower's colors as they sleep. As to color, my mind is blank. There has to be more than holly berries and poinsettias! 😂 And cardinals. I'm rolling my eyes at myself.
Hi Cheryl and thanks so much for your wonderfully poetic comments! After reading it I was prompted to go outside and pick a few of the heads of Hydrangea which are fading to their autumn splendour right now - vintage shades of blue and pink which are just as pretty as their summer dresses! Do you have them in Seattle? I’ve heard that you have very wet winters, like Vancouver, so I’m sure you can get quite “down” as the soggy months go by. We have an enormous amount of rain here in the winter too, but not every year. Some years it rains every day. Ugh. But again, thanks so much for your lovely words. Much appreciated.
really loved this video......and that glass pen is fabulous. The weeds along the water ditches are just beginning to head up and it's the perfect time to paint them. You are right about the 'now or never' coming with a certain age....I'm feeling it myself.....thanks as ever Diane for sharing your life and talent.
Thanks so much Jennifer, I'm so glad you like the look of the glass pen. It's so funny that I actually had it on hand, I'd forgotten totally about buying it for Tamsin years ago until someone asked in the comments had I ever used a glass pen! Then I remembered it! Maybe I'll use it again today, I'm in danger of becoming addicted to it and the waterbrush!!!
Diane, you have out done yourself today. I have seen these pens but had no idea you could do so much with one. I just ordered the set and can't wait for it to come in. I am looking forward to the trees, leaves etc. I have to thank you for inspiring me. I spent a couple of hours sketching different sizes and types of rocks. I am sketching at least 15 minutes a day and it really helps. Thank you again for another great lesson!
Wonderful! That's so good to hear. That pen is a little miracle. I hope they are all as good. I can't remember where I bought that one from... it was a gift to Tamsin about 10 years ago when she was interested in calligraphy briefly...
Diane, I love this video. I haven't had much time to myself lately, so haven't been able to paint. Watching this makes me realize just how much I need to make my painting time a priority. Thank you for this lovely autumn tutorial.
I am fascinated by seed heads, especially ones like wild carrot (Queen Anne’s lace), hogweed, cow parsley and, like you, alliums. This session is a complete eye opener for me! Thank you so much 😊

Hi Diane! This is so much fun!! 👏👏 Is there no end to your talents? OF COURSE I will need to purchase the glass pen now.....😋 I do have a nice set of alcohol inks. Same technique? I'm really looking forward to some autumnal content. But just before the switch please do share the hibiscus 🌺 tutorial. Never EVER are there too many flowers. 😁

Who would have believed it. I hope you enjoyed the first hibiscus I did yesterday. I will be doing more, - probably some looser ones which I'm working on at the moment too. Don't forget to make any suggestions you have about subjects which are of interest to you down under - it's easy for me to forget that the seasons are far from the same all the way round the world! Wonderful Renee, thanks for your lovely comment! Thanks so much, and do have funnnn!
Hi Diane! I’ve been watching your videos and loving the ease and calmness with watercolor painting. I especially love what you paint…I live in the country and fascinated with our animals, plants, bugs, etc! I’ve been using the only watercolors I have….grandkids crayola 🙂 They work, but would like your advice on a set of Winston and Newton, 24 half pans for $33.00. Thank you
Hi Lou, thanks so much for your lovely comments! I’m so glad that you are enjoying the videos. As far as materials go, you can’t go wrong with Winsor and Newton. A set of 24 for $33 sounds like a good price. as long as you are sure they are the genuine article that would be a very good buy.
@@DianeAntoneStudio , I just realized the paints I’m looking at say Cotman. In watching a video about the difference, one is a student grade and not as high quality.
I think it’s only once it’s dried that it becomes water resistant. As long as you wash it as soon as you have finished painting it will come out fine. Glad you enjoyed the video xx
just lovely! i have bought a few calligraphy dip pens but can't get any of them to work. the glass pen looks perfect, is it simple to use as a dip pen? thank you x

Yes, I feel like I have you beside me when I'm making the video, and it is very comforting to know so many ladies are enjoying watching and learning and following along x Yes, I got in a right mess, mostly from opening the bottles! Have a look at the links below in the description to Amazon glass pens. There are quite a few to choose from on Amazon, and if you go there via one of my links it helps us! Thanks so much, and do have funnnn!
@@DianeAntoneStudio Yep, I went through your links. I have a couple of items in my cart from your links
Hi Diane, Absolutely love this tutorial. You so inspire me which is so needed. How about do a mushroom patch with this technique. Have a great day.
Great idea! I was just pondering what to paint this afternoon for the next video! I'll give that a go!
Btw dear Diane what is your favorite watercolor book and why ? Thank you!
Hibiscus blooms in the Caribbean all year so I think the tutorial could be done anytime, no?
Thanks - I suppose that’s true!
Another “toy” to try? Hmmmm. Really nice composition.
Can't have too many toys!
Hi Diane! I’ve been watching your videos and loving the ease and calmness with watercolor painting. I especially love what you paint…I live in the country and fascinated with our animals, plants, bugs, etc!
I’ve been using the only watercolors I have….grandkids crayola 🙂
They work, but would like your advice on a set of Winston and Newton, 24 half pans for $33.00.
Thank you
Hi Lou, thanks so much for your lovely comments!
Hi Diane, loved this video, am now wondering how you clean the ink out of your brush? The Amazon link for the ink says it is water resistant...
I think it’s only once it’s dried that it becomes water resistant. As long as you wash it as soon as you have finished painting it will come out fine. Glad you enjoyed the video xx
Curious - does the ink you're using stain the brush? Is the ink water-soluble or does it require something stronger to clean the brush?
just lovely! i have bought a few calligraphy dip pens but can't get any of them to work. the glass pen looks perfect, is it simple to use as a dip pen? thank you x
Yes they are! This one, anyway, holds a lot of ink and will write for quite a long while with one dip. Much better than the metal nibs I have!
@@DianeAntoneStudio thanks duck, will get ordering xxx
Great, use one of my links to Amazon to speed it up!!
@@DianeAntoneStudio do you have a promo code for amazon uk?
Hi there, we’ve been told that even if you’re in the UK and you click on our link to Amazon US, it will route you back to the UK. I would be really grateful if you could test that for us!! Glass Pen Set amzn.to/3sMJaYq

what kind of water color pencils do you recommend
Hi Francine, thanks for watching the video and for your question. When I use watercolor pencils I either use Faber Castell Albrecht Durer colored pencils - here's a link amzn.to/3aa0fTF or if I want black only I use the Staedtler Karat Aquarell pencil, link - amzn.to/2Ym4Q33 Hope this helps x
Could you substitute watercolor for ink if you had to?😊
Yes, just make a big puddle, preferably in a deepish dish and dip right in!
Thank you for your reply😊
