When it originally released it was one of the greatest games of that generation. Extremely influential even to this day.
I remember getting it shortly after release, one of the beat games ever honestly.
@@CurlyCrossnever finished the original cause I couldn't figure it all out but I beat the PS4 remake 3 times. Holds up so well. A classic
It's still one of the greatest games.
I've never finished it on my own, though I did play through it with a friend where we passed the controller on each death...
It has a fair bit of jank that can make it frustrating, but the feeling of the game was incredible, especially back then.
Even more crazy is that I had the special edition version of it for PS2, with the near case and all, that I got from a friend when his PS2 died.
It's cool, but camera is so trash
25:04 No joke, it doesn't just predate BotW, it predates _Twilight Princess_
I've never been into Zelda or Nintendo in general, so it surprised me how _recent_ Twilight Princess is, I thought it was from like 98
When you beat the first colossus: "Why didn't that feel good?"
Because it never attacked you. Even after you stabbed its calf wound, all it ever did was try to shake you off. It didn't fight back. It didn't swing its club or try to stomp you with its hooves or anything...
it would have though
@@infebris maybe so, but not unprovoked. You went and attacked a a passive creature - even with its size, it was still passive
@@dougla517 It attacks on sight and if you get the attention of the 8th colossus by whistling then it will attack where the sound came regardless of whether it has previously seen you. Colossi that don't attack on sight are the 5th and 13th colossi. The 5th will only attack if you attack it first and the 13th never attacks. The presence of the ancient sword that has the ability to kill them is what provokes them if anything.
Edit: Some carry weapons and some are even described as liking destruction.
@@Jaikhay231 even then their attacks are halfhearted. if any of the climbable colossi every decided to swat with their hand instead of passively shaking they would crush wander. it's almost always "go away I don't want to squish you" rather than "DIE WEILDER!!!" That only really happens later, once the colossi have realized that half-hearted attacks are not cutting it for the first few.
It does try to attack you tho. It slams its club and stomps on you.
Shadow of the Colossus to me feels less like a game and more like you’re stepping into a living painting. From the geography/architecture design and cinematography used to showcase them to the designs and movements of the colossi themselves, this game creates something truly special with its atmosphere.
42:40 loving how Crow just starts grouping a bunch of them into "looks like a giraffe"
It's crazy to me that I live in a time where a game from my childhood looks as good as it did through rose tinted glasses. This masterpiece has always blown my mind in terms of how absolutely cinematic every single action was, even the simple stuff like raising your sword and your vision getting blurry from the light to manteling over these behemoth puzzles of the colossus to just exploring the world and coming across those stamina lizards every single part of this game is beautiful and it deserves every ounce of praise and then some
Honestly I found this to be some of your best content in a while. Watching you figure the colossi out was so fun and only very infrequently frustrating but I by no means expect anyone to immediately understand anything, because that is beyond unreasonable.
In short very good stream and even better streamer doing this kind of content. Love it
If you hold the grip button while riding Agro and use the left stick, you can make Wander stand up on Agro's back or hang from the saddle! Not something you ever need nor does the game ever tell you, but it's a neat thing to do while riding around.
12:32 - Title cutscene
22:07 - Gameplay begins
4:09:57 - Eric returns from break
Hero.
Having read the entire comment section i can safely say no one has posted the colossi's names, i have decided to do so. Developer names in parenthesis and fan names outside of them

3. Gaius (the knight)
4. Phadra (kirin)
5. Avion (bird)

03:29:59 I'm glad he explained it, because I misunderstood it too. Dunno if it's a language thing, cuz many people misunderstood it as well.
I googled it: It's shorthand for, as this Reddit thread explains, “the idea that if a man is interested or wants to be with you, he'll figure a way to make it happen or to show a woman. If he doesn't, the woman should move on. Because if he wanted to, he would.”
I'm so, so glad you multistreamed this. I don't watch twitch often but am an hour into this VOD and your enthusiasm for this masterpiece of a game is so nice. I'm sad this wasn't recommended to me before you finished it an hour or two ago, I would have loved to be here for it live. I'll sub here now in hopes you do more multistreams of such good games!!
29:19 - This was PointCrow’s first PlayStation game? Well, he could not have picked a better one. SotC is my personal #1 favorite game of all time and I’m so excited to keep watching this.
I'm more surprised how fast he started beating each colossus. When I first started playing the game, I struggled with the 4th colossus, I'd argue it is probably one of the more difficult bosses in the game for a beginner.
@@ivenstormbro does this for a living tbf haha
@@simonedmondson8875 and? That means literally jack all. I have nearly 8000 hours into Binding Of Isaac, I still manage to screw up all the time, while newer players pick up things faster than I can.
@@ivenstorm oh I know. Was just kidding anyway dude
@@simonedmondson8875 cool cool. Kind of hard to see jokes over internet lol.
I like that this game doesn’t play up the victories.
You ended the life of a creature you’ve never met and never did any wrong. Of course it’s sad. Murder in war never feels good, even if it’s for a good cause.
I'm a doofus. I played this tons of times and never realized there were more doves with every colossus you kill.
I had that spoiled, myself, but I was blown away that Eric figured it out on the second one.
You can also grab onto one and hang onto it as it flies as an Easter Egg
@@MetaGiga Okay. Someone, somewhere, is awesome and deserves a raise. I don't care where they work now or how long ago this game was made, they still deserve it.
@@jessiehogue.Sony unfortunately killed Japan Studio a few years ago, so their development support on this remake was their last contribution to the playstation brand. That's what happens when playstation HQ is moved from Japan to California though. We'll never get another Team Ico experience besides possible remasters/remakes, and that awesome dude who allowed you to use birds as a paraglider got laid off instead of getting a raise.
1:13:00 is very real of you, I love watching people I follow play games I like, but the "streamer" way of playing doesn't feel very respectful when it comes story heavy games, like they don't truly experience it
Can't wait for more!
This game is so amazing. And so far, one of the best first play throughs I’ve seen.
So glad it’s not being spoiled for you. Props to chat but especially to your Mods.
Enjoy what I truly believe to be the greatest video game of all time.
This game was featured in an Adam Sandler movie called Reign Over Me. It's a much more serious movie and it's so good. So cool that he plays this in the movie too and it's an emphasis on the movie
I love this game’s story. The story is from a different game, which at first glance, are barely connected, but there are hints that it’s connected to the first game.
I played this game day one with the ps2 release and it absolutely blew my mind and changed what I thought video games were capable of. It's now my personal favorite game of all time, and I replay it once a year. Love watching playthroughs of it and this one is no different.
That feeling for me was Batman Arkham City. First really good game I played as a kid and it gives me all the feels still
Was Arkham city the first batman game out of the quadrology?@@isaac53t33
I’m only an hour into this play through and I can’t express how much I love this game and love your first reactions to everything! This was my first game to play on ps2, the nostalgia that hits, realizing I’m remember every bit of the game from order of colossi to all their weak points to where to go on the map. I’m just in awe all over again. Thank you Eric for taking interest in this game to bring it back to light for us who hold a special in our hearts for it and to introduce it to those who never played this.
I saw someone in chat mention how originally they played for 48 colossi! N omg how I would’ve loved to see those designs and those fights come to life, I’m still thankful to have a solid 16 that I love each of them for their own reasons but man I would have loved to play through them all even if it meant longer and more struggles.
35:46
“Yeah I’m really in the shadow of the colossus rn”😂😂😂
I always will consider this game to be the turning point of when video games indisputably became art
I really like your full let's plays and I hope you'll do more of them! You are excellent at narrating and thinking out loud. Love the edited vids too, but will always come back to the Outer Wilds/Tunic full playthroughs on a rainy day.
I hate how early on Eric makes it clear that he doesn't want chat to compare this game to BotW or TotK because it hurts discourse around games to not consider it on its own merits, and then chat just does that for the rest of stream anyways 🙄
Chat do be chat
That whole era after BOTW released where literally any game that had grass in it was insulted as a “eww BOTW clone” fucking hated those people.
It's especially dumb since SotC is way older than BotW
😭😭 SOTC also is obviously influenced by Zelda. I don't think there is anything wrong in comparing or pointing out similarities. Whenever creative processes are involved, it's not unusual that they influence each other.
@@Basthey you, out of the gene pool.
SOTC is actually a perfect speed run game because there's literally time trials for every boss in NG+
It's an actual speedrun category to just do the time trials. It makes it easier, too, cause all your stats are maxed out. So things like stamina become less of a worry.
Takes a single look at the bridge
"Structurally... Is that stable?"
Foreshadowing of the Colossus
This game inspired a wonder in me that I still have to this day.
Pointcrow Vs Jacksepticeye SOTC Speedrun 2024.. how about THAT
I desperately want you to play The Last Guardian now! Its by the same studio and is INCREDIBLE.
Ico too, of course!
@@DraezethReally wish Sony didn't murder Japan Studio and Team Ico by extension, then we could have an Ico remake. Some things aren't meant to be I guess.
@@noodleman4555 At least we're getting another Ueda game!
i recently discovered this game through the soundtrack, its so nice to see one of my fav content creators playing it!
I love how Wander doesn’t seem to be an especially skilled warrior - he doesn’t have many moves with the sword, and he seems almost clumsy; you can see it especially when he’s rolling or swimming. You really get the impression that he got here on desperation and determination alone.
I watched a playtrough of this like 10 years ago and PointCrow is definitely a good choice to watch this game again, it's fantastic, looking forward to seeing him complete the game
Such a classic game. Every Zelda fan should play through this and ICO, it's really awesome to see how much these games influenced each other in reciprocal ways.
This is probably the hardest game for Pointcrow to play...not due to difficulty (most of the colossi are easy outside about 5 and the final one being kinda BS if you don't know what to do) but due to it requiring a lot of patience which, from what I've seen in most videos, is a trait Pointcrow lacks for the most part.
I see SotC and I watch. Was my number one favorite game of all time for a very long time, since the PS2 era. It's been topped now, but there's a few contenders at this point.
What is your top now?
I’ve waited 4- no 5,000 years for this.
I started following your channel since your Outer Wilds playthrough.(which I absolutely loved!) This is the first game since then where I’m extremely excited to see you play it! One of my all time favourites. If you liked Outer Wilds you’re gonna like this one to.
The boss fight music is so iconic.
OMG! I am so excited to watch this! I have played SOTC early when it released and its one of my favorite games. I even have picked up a few times to replay it.
Amazing playthrough brother and you are by far the smartest dude that I already saw playing this game, amazing how fast you figured it out the puzzles and your theories was amazing even with so little information 😮
1:37:26 the first play through I ever watched of this game, from Cryaotic Idek how many years ago, he always ran from the black tendrils, glad to see you followed suit!
Glad to see someone truly and fully appreciating the absolute mastery that this game is. Every time you were excited, or awestruck, or overcome with admiration, or any of that, I felt it deep within my soul. Best playthrough of this game that I've ever seen. Very, very phenomenally done, sir.
It was kinda painful seeing so many people call this a remaster, especially since some of them were some of your mods. I guess it happens, but it's still painful. Just a personal qualm of mine, and just a comment, not any sort of criticism or anything so no need to look into it. (:
I had no idea you could just barely squeeze into Avion's arena like that; I always thought you had to dive under to get there.
The misinterpretation of the joke by chat was definitely funny, but it's 100% understandable that that type of joke isn't for everyone.
Can't wait to see how you react to the rest of the game! (I'm watching the other vod after I send this comment.)
So excited to watch this! I’ve loved shadow of the colossus forever and it’s wonderful seeing you play it.
Thanks for buying a PS4 just for it!
3:49:40 Eric: "where are you where are you where are you"
Kuromori: "olá bom dia"
dude, this was one of the first games i have ever played! It made such a big impact on my childhood, im so glad you played it :)
I have both ps2 and ps4 and have this game on both because i love it. So nice to see you play through it
One of my favorite in game soundtracks and one of my favorite games of all time!
Love that you're experiencing this! I've played this game on PS2, the port on PS3 and the remaster for PS4 lol. One of my favorite games of all time. Also why didn't anyone tell him about the fruits or lizards?
Usually he is a Nintendo guy, his audience is likely from another Nintendo games, so not everyone will know about the lizards or the fruit.
Great playthrough!
Hey crow, this is one of my favorite games, so thank you for playing it!
I remember playing Ico when it came out on a second cousin or something and I loved that game. When shadow of the colossus came out I died to the third and couldn't figure out how to beat it without a walkthrough. Proceeded to treat it more like a horse game.
Just riding my horse into the sunset every day after school
This was the first game i ever played. This and Ico. It holds a special place in my heart.
2:16:20 you dont have to thank us for enjoying it!! thank YOU for making great content!
Ever since I played it on ps3 it’s been my favorite game. Crazy to see him play through it.
I still have my ps2 version of the game when i was a child.
It was my favourite
Yoo!! Super excited to see you play this one! It’s one of my all time favourite games✨
Edit: i LOVE how you turned up the music for us🥹
This is my favorite video game of all time. I grew up playing it, and when they remastered it, I fell in love. 10/10 would recommend to anyone and everyone.
he's never played this game, but he gets these puzzles so FAST
So happy you enjoyed this game!
honestly. i got a ps5 for xmas and also got horizon forbidden west on it (there's other games but i play that currently). prior to the ps5, ive only ever played ds/wii/switch/low graphic pc games. i completely understand the initial controller struggle and then the "god, this game is so pretty" almost every 10 minutes. playstation games do be pretty. very pretty
Love this game. Love. It's beautiful and cinematic and a work of art.
SotC is genuinely one of my favourite games, the first ever game I completed with a friend (we’d switch every time we died) truly opened my eyes to more open world games
Also first time I’d ever cried after killing a boss
Can't wait til you finish the game! It's gonna be awesome.
I kinda hope we get a mini series of just crow fighting each of the colossi lol
i played the original version of this game and the ps3 port of the game and looking at the remake makes me go WOAH and happy with how good it looks.
Since this came out it's been in my top 10 all time
just as i'm getting back into my shadow of the colossus hyperfixation 🥰
WE 100% need a speedrun of this game now!
Love this game. Never played it, but I watched Jackscepticeye's playthrough of it years ago, and I think it looks absolutely stunning. Just gonna say a few non-spoiler things here.
First: Agro, best honse.
Second: Can't wait for your reactions on all of this.
(Third: It's really hard to not talk about spoiler-y stuff, cus it's just such a good game that it makes you wanna talk about it all day long...)
I've played this game so many times I've lost count. It's not for everyone, but it's one of my personal favorites. I consider it to be the best artistic game of it's generation
Got handed a copy of my friend's in like 8th grade around the time it came out. Became my all time favorite game for many years after.
fuck seeing if itll be an edited video. ima just watch the vod because this game is peak and i love seeing blind genuine reaction to this game. cant wait for next stream
I really wish chat would bring up the glowing lizard tails and fruit in tree that gets your stamina and health up, health is not as important but still something to look out for.
What a coincidence, I bought myself a PS just to play SotC too, just two months ago!
After the altar introduction, those certain words 😢 iykyk
As a playstation fan boy my whole life you picked an excellent game to start off with
What if ,,the forbidden land'' just means a reserve, and we are killing an endangered spiecies of gigant stone/fur creatures?
You should play shadow of the colossus
An ad every 5 min is crazy
To put to this game to word, this game really was ahead of it time. I know many people say it but its true . Many game in the past i play and this was my favorite one so far .
If you press left on the d-pad on agro and press r1 you can use a bow
3:09:23 If we’re Going to talk about worldbuilding we 100% gotta bring up Warhammer 40,000. It’s world-building Is so rich and emotional I would argue it surpasses even Star-Wars and rivals actual history in its depth (and I have a major in history haha). Just listening to you talk about all the things you love about helldivers and I realized it kind of checked all the boxes haha. I love it. 100%. And just wanted to stop by to share one of my very most favorite things…
I love this game so much I have a sigil tattooed over my heart and everytime I go see my sister (she lives in another state) I play on my brother in law's Playstation, EVERYTIME
Glad to see you branching out and doing non-Nintendo stuff!
Wait till he meets the 16th
"Less ad breaks for this Long Video" -my ASS dawg 😭
Skimming through this, 4 different random points on the watch bar and he’s in the middle of Field in every one 😂
2:10:28
HE DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO DIVE!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
( I have played SC before and this is one of my favorite colossi
Never imagined I'd see you playing this lmao, I watched pewdiepie play this like 11 years ago. Here for it 😮
Great game. You inspired me to go back to Playstation and play it
This game is the first game that i love
2:58 Joke spoilers, are, in fact, incredibly funny if the person making them is funny. Pointcrow is just being a diva here, but it's his chat I guess.
I wish this game had more diversity in the enemies like a spider or a lion would be cool instead of only giraffes.
I am actually curious if the colossi in this are what inspired the divine beasts. Similar designs and concepts, except one is living and another is a structure.
LOVED this game !! I hope they bring it to Xbox someday, if not imma buy a PS4/5 to replay it again, it’s soooooo goood
You'll enjoy this one
Upon this rewatch, that last opposite really if not show its face
Feck did the title just say? I've seen this man turn link into a zeppelin and he hasn't suffered this trauma yet. (Confused shaking in the corner)
i wish this game would be on nintendo or steam too (for portable) - have the ps2 game (without having a ps2 xD (played it on that one from my brother) - the case was sooo nice and there where cards in it .... so wonderful // and when I heard its back on ps4 I bought it again :) and played it ..... this is a milestone. but on steamdeck or switch would be great to have too .....
One of the greatest games ever made!!
