Live at the National Theatre is in my opinion a funnier show, but you need to be born pre 1980 to have a chance of getting a lot of it. Dead and Alive is very good too though.
@bethra13 I am very familiar with G&S, and I did watch the whole thing several times. I've been in all 13 G&S operas each on more than one occasion, even directing and conducting a few. Everything about this, words & music are of a much later style. They do quote music from Iolanthe and the Mikado in this, but then they always segue into something that sounds more Noel Coward than Sullivan. It's still funny, but I still don't see the connection with G&S.
Thank you ABC.
Still makes me lol after all these years :)
There is no best time in comedy. We're just brilliant.
who cut out what tim was saying?
anywho DAAS was the best comedy act in the 20th century!!!!
xx
"Loudly let the trumpets bray..." & "Loudly bang the sounding brasses..." are from G&S 'Iolanthe'. Its obscure, but not lost.
Little golden trickle
Ah they don't make em like that anymore...

G&S didn't write parlour songs. The musical style isn't even similar.
