SURABAYA, INDONESIA - Today we’re going to go eat the most famous Indonesian fried rice (nasi goreng) in all of Surabaya - it’s so well known that it typically sells out within 2 hours!
One of the greatest of all Indonesian street foods is nasi goreng, or Indonesian fried rice. He makes it expertly, sauteeing garlic and shallots in hot oil before adding egg, rice, and all the seasoning. Because we’re in Indonesia, you can take your nasi goreng to the next level with huge amounts of fiery chili sambal chili sauce, and even a little red tomato sauce to give you fried rice color and extra flavor. The thing that truly sets Nasi Goreng Cak Moo is how he fries your rice perfectly and dry in the wok so it’s extremely smoky!
No doubt, this was one of the best plates of Indonesian fried rice that I’ve ever had!

I can't believe that Mark had just tried nasi goreng from a small stall in my neighbourhood 😂 but i agree that Cak Moo's nasi goreng is very delicious indeed 👍🏻
Great to hear that, I loved it!

keren sumber informasinya dia.. trully food vloggee ga kaleng2 memang
I am sure community of RUclips & his friends are helping him when he travels.
Mas Budi pemandu nya keren banget nemu aja makanan-makanan enak yang gak pretentious
Miss my childhood in Indonesia back in the 90s..smokey nasi goreng with fried egg, crackers and pickles..back then those cart sellers were still using kerosene stove instead of gas stove, the smell was amazing..enjoy your culinary adventure in Indonesia, Mark.
You took me back to a happy place in my life
The Charcoal stove is the magic
Thank you so much, glad this brought back great memories!
@@MarkAbroad Your videos helped me through a rough patch in my life. I thank you so very much. Wishing you unlimited peace and blessings
Saya pertama kali makan nasi goreng tahun 1987....SD klas 3 nasi goreng oceng depan universitas merdeka dan kemarin sempat viral karena B2nya😂😂😂😂
You know the food is good when the chef doesn't smile even a little bit
He was such a nice guy, just so focused and dedicated!
@@MarkAbroad I know Mark, I am an Indonesian as well, I am just saying that I know for sure that the food will taste really good when the chef is really focused with the task at hand like that 👍🏻
"We both know why you're here."
That nasi goreng looks so freaking good, the texture, the smokiness, and the caramelized look. Man, I can almost smell it. Perfect street food nasi goreng.
Would definitely try it when I visit Surabaya for sure!
Thank you very much, a master chef!
I'm from Surabaya, and this is really delicious. The information received by Mark Wiens is no joke; he can even know and eat 'cak moo.' He's awesome, truly the most accurate food vlogger ever.
Mark's passion for food is addictive. I watch to see the different foods from other countries but stay for Mark's excitement and smile.😊
Thank you very much!
Don't try this spiciness level if you are first time eating Indonesian sambal, Mark already has tolerance for Indonesian sambal :D
Can't agree more
His stomach is remarkable.
How he handled that much of spices?
Mark live in Thailand, his wife is Thai...spicy is a little things for him. Not a big problem.
@@ArbathSahadewa He has his own restaurant back in Thailand, selling padkaprao using carolina reaper maybe from there he can handle spices.
@@mady1605it’s actually the other way around. He decided to open that restaurant because he LOVES spicy food. His catchphrase “mai phet mai gin” (not spicy, not eating) was invented long before he even got this big, let alone opened a restaurant. He’s also half Chinese and that might contribute to his spice tolerance as well 😃
Hot damn! I'm taking the first train to Surabaya next week and off to Cak Moo. You're right Mark, Michelin judges ain't seen nothin' yet.
That's one of the best looking plates of nasi goreng I've ever seen. And I've eaten thousands of plates of nasi goreng.
The best fried rice/nasi goreng is from indonesia i have tried many nasi goreng from the other country still indonesia fried rice is the best 🤤🤤🤤🤤
Benar!
Nasi Goreng yg sederhana tapi terlihat sekali bahwa itulah Nasi Goreng profesional. Abang Guidenya pasti ga sembarangan merekomendasikan tempat ini. Nasi Gorengnya kelihatan lezat sekali. Banyak makanan lezat berasal dari pinggiran jalan, dan tidak lahir dari koki bintang 5. Nasi Goreng abang2 is the best !!!
Bener pasti guidenya gak sembarangan bawa. Dan kelihatan dr cara masak nasgornya udah pro bgt
Betulke padu cam ni? I nak pergi surabaya try la cam ni
Mohon maaf. Yang ini Muslim ka? Nampak sedap. Saya dari Malaysia.
yes
@@mohdkhush4922 halal ,, but mark non halal😊 come n let's try
That's my favorite nasi goreng with surabaya style🤤, is totally different from jakarta style nasi goreng both in terms of taste and color.
Dang... Mark surely can handle spiciness more than lots of Javanese people. You can tell by the way he ate that chili (and that's quite hot chili too!) that he loved it.
Cheers mate, you're officially half Javanese now... 😂
Tapi cabenya dimakan sama batang 😂
Man is from Thailand. If you can handle Thai’s spiciness. You are good to go to eat SEA’s spicy food
He’s bold 🎉😂
There are many types of fried rice; from Chinese Yangzhou chaofan, Japanese yakimeshi, to Cuban arroz frito. They are different, but they are great in their own ways. Even if Indonesians and Malaysians call their respective version of the dish with the same term “nasi goreng” but they’re very different in flavors. I would argue that the Malaysian versions, even at their most basic forms like the Malaysian nasi goreng kampung, are still very “Chinese” in essence, while the many variants of Indonesian nasi goreng have evolved to very localized versions that are unique to the country. And you can clearly see that in this one example in this video.
Thank you for this episode, Mark! Nasi goreng is a humble everyday dish, and I am hesitant to call it our national dish because our cuisine is so much more than just a method to save day-old rice, but I can’t argue that it’s considered one of our comfort food and with so much variety in the country it’s an endless topic to discuss. Cheers! 🍻 🇮🇩
Hahh Very Chinese cem mana? Wkwkwk nasi Goreng Kampung MALAYSIA ato orang Melayu pada umumnya juga samaaa sangat lokal sekalii kami pakai Belacan sama Pakai bahan Yang di Tumbuk di Lesung Soo Lokal, Bukan Chinese nasi goreng yang jelas beda, Wkwkwk Lawakk Anda inii 🤣🤣🤣
In this Video juga nggk yg lokal lokal Bangetttt dah bahan nya masih pake Mode Cincang Macam nasi Goreng Chinese cuman kasi Kecap doang yg bede same nasi Goreng Chinese yg Tk Pakai kecapp, plus kasi cabe dan Saos Tomat, Wkwk, saus Tomat pon bukan locally produk Pribumi Wkwk itu sudah Inovasi 🤣🤣🤣
@@myhome4273 Fried Rice is originated from Chinese cuisine though? I'm not a Chinese but we have to respect the origin of a food.
Sambal is Javanese word... so the key ingredient of Indonesian nasi goreng is Sambal...
@@danggingand kecap aka Sweet soy sauce
Mark, you consistently provide the best content. You have given me 10 years of entertainment and opened up my food world. I remember when you cooked nasi goreng with stink beans. This guy is giving a clinic on wok heI!
LOVE those slo mo shots too.
Thank you very much, wow really appreciate your support over so many years!
That chef is so skilled with movements faster than any robot can ever be! When i was a Captain of a ship, i sailed with Indonesians and Nasi Goreng was made every morning. With its spicy kick, it was my favourite Indonesian food.
The signature of Nasi Goreng from East Java is Chili & tomato sauce.
It has a flaming red color, which is not usually found in another place in Java.
Saya gak suka saos tomat....ganti kecap biasanya😊
khususnya Jawa Timur bagian Timur ya, Malang, Lamongan, Surabaya..soalnya kalau di Madiun kita dominan kecap and warnanya coklat gitu
If you have so much time you could try to go around Indonesia, from the east to the west and the south to the north. Believe me there's so many incredible food that you never try.

maybe that guy who own that Local Vendor who sell Nasi Goreng don't know you, but you help him a lot, and show to more people ( at least ) who follow your channel "like me" that his Nasi Goreng is worth to try.
Thanks Mark for this content.

Food blogger must see mark wien search delicious food in Indonesia... Definisi makan pinggir jalan ya ini... ❤❤❤
i immediately go to nasi goreng stall..and i write this comment while waiting for my nasi goreng to be served
Yes. Mark is back with his favorite nasi goreng 😂 Surabaya & Madura style of nasi goreng is easily found in the greater Jakarta area, but usually they don't add the chili and tomato sauces.
Maybe they should lol
Nasi goreng jancooookkk.....cuk....
Chili & tomato sauce is the important point of Nasi Goreng from East Java
Thank you verymuch!
I think you meant tomato ketchup (saos tomat) wkwkwk
Thank youu, Mark for reviewing the place. Cak Moo indeed serves the best fried rice I've ever had in my life.
The secret of the chef's coolness is actually the ice tea he hung to his stall right beside his wok😄
Dang, my mouth is watering when you scoop that smokey Nasi goreng. Kudos to you Mark, you can enjoy that fabulous cuisine in its original way.
Kuat banget si Mark makan cabe... Ngalahin orang Indonesia... 😆
Mark: "It's so perfect, it's so dry"
Jamie: "hold my wet Nasi Goreng"
Every city in Indonesia has fried rice with its own taste, but I have to admit that Surabaya fried rice is the best of all fried rice in Indonesia.
That's the reason why in other cities that already have their own fried rice, there are still Surabaya fried rice sellers.
I get so tired of all extreme foods and bizarre inedible stuff. But THIS this is why I watch this channel we all know what Nasi Goreng is or at least we’ve heard of it anyway. This is what I want to know about not some bizarre sheep gut meal.
Wow that finished product is incredible looking. Everyone of those flavours are exactly what I am looking for.
Bizarre for you. Not others. Respect other people's cultures.
Hi mark , my thought this is best episode....street food tour...Thank you man...Thank you so much.
Thank my friend Mark for sharing the new video. Indonesian Nasi Goreng style smoked fried rice. A true street culinary spectacle. I wish you happy Christmas holidays with your family.🎄🎄

Cak Moo is one of my fav street food vendors in Surabaya and he’s the best! Thanks Mark for coming and eating at his humble cart !

The more simple the ingredients the tastier the nasi goreng😂 my grandma only need minced garlic, rice,a pinch of salt and MSG to cook nasi goreng. I called it "nasi goreng kampung".
I wish I could travel the world and taste different foods 😊😊 since I’m not able to Mark is my go to for this! Thanks Mark

Hey Mark, I'm an American living in guizhou china, if you ever want to swing by for a bite I'd be happy to show you around... guizhou people LOVE chili peppers and mouth burning spice ( maybe not as much as you though )
Nasi goreng Indonesia is totally different with other fried rice from other country. Specially in flavor. Typical Indonesian taste. The flavor of nasi goreng Indonesia make you feel want to eat more and more.
The secret ingredient is kecap manis
Based on his style of cooking, I agree that would be an amazing nasi goreng. Awesome Mark. I love every single of your video. You made me open my palate to more varieties of foods
Nasi goreng is my favorite food and this one looks so amazing. Could feel the heavenly savory taste and aroma from over here
The famous fried rice looks delicious, I want to try it 👍
Halo Mark..You should try Nasi Goreng without Kecap Manis..It also tasty..🤤😋
Dont care at all
When i come back to indonesia..i prefer eating in de warunh than in the restaurant. Nas goreng from warung like this really better than nasi goreng from restaurant
Agree
Looks great 👍 Mark. Have fun around the 🌎
Eggs and rice. One of my staples. Wish I had all that to add to it 😆
Surabayan fried rice near my aunt house is heavily spiced with white pepper. I’d like to challenge European to eat it. The fried rice is soo fragrant and rich with flavor but the presence of pepper really come through. I sneezed everytime they’re cooking 😂

One of the best nasi goreng in surabaya, hands down. Thank you for showcasing this gem, respect Mark! 🫶🏻

I guess Uncle Roger definitely needs to learn how masters the way to cook a real fried rice from him....
Uncle Roger know nothing LOL, he is just pretentious prick, 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Thanks for coming again again again here 🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨
People said if you come across a simple cart run by an uncle, it can be a delightful culinary adventure! And its true because uncle chef usually have different experience than the chef from restaurant XD
Pernah ada menfess di foodfess itu nasi goreng merah porsi kuli buanyak banget.
Nasgor Surabaya emang porsi nya banyak banget sangat cocok untuk anak kos 😂
Ive eaten a lot of different types of fried rice but without a doubt east java red fried rice is THE BEST hands down!
Man, that chef keeps that rice under high heat for a very long time. No wonder there’s so much flavor.
This is legit surabaya style fried rice. ❤❤❤ your video mark
The food looks tasty😋
Actually there is another famous version of Surabaya fried rice which usually called nasi goreng keluntung or cow bell fried rice because traditionally its sell in a cart with cow bell ring to notify or attract customers. This nasi goreng is similar to Central Java style which is cooked with charcoal stove and has sambal paste as main ingredient but Surabaya style is more towards salty taste than sweet. Unfortunately though, I think this type of fried rice is kinda rare nowadays
BEST ACTION of mark in every videos that i have ever seen is about " HE CLOSES HIS EYES , ENJOY THE TASTE OF THE FOOD , TRY TO TASTE OF THE FLAVORS AND INSERT IN HIS IMAGINATION OF FOOD THAT FLIES IN HIS BRAIN" WOWWWWWWW
thank you mark to bring small business to your video, it might help him to be viral soon,
Based on the comment, this humble fried rice cart is already well known in the area, they now worry the q might be longer than usual.
I would love to have the used sauces list to cook this.
Dayummm I wish you also explore Madura Mark, such a amazing food culture right there.
No Mark your belongings will be stolen by those madura

You know what make this fried rice a legend??? those a Ice Tea Drink put in Plastic and Straw....Absolutely Legend!!! 🤣🤣🤣
There is a new Thai cuisine open in my area Im Gonna definitely try it extra spicy blessings my man
The key of Indonesian nasi goreng is sambal. Although sambal is claimed by the whole South East Asia, the word is originating from Javanese, sambel meaning being crushed...
I would argue with your claim because there is sambalado in minangkabau. As we all know Java and minang they both are among the oldest tribe in Indonesia. Whatever it is you don't have any proof where is the original came from
@@dhan8564 sambal orang Minang kurang pedas masbro....

These rice looks so flavourful and delicious 😍
actually it's a surabayan style fried rice usually comes with some special soy sauce called rajarasa and the addition of tomato sauce and sambal
Rajarasa alias, micin, wkwkwkwkwkwk 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Indonesian spicy level is not to be joke around. I ate their nasi geprek before and the spicy level is deadly😂
Reminds me with your old VT, that you made nasi goreng indonesian style at your house... That's amazing
in indonesia we called nasi goreng tek tek😂
You know a nasi goreng guy means business when he smacks the garlic to oblivion and when he got the bagged up iced tea hung on the side of the cart ready to hydrate from all that smoke. If it ain’t got those i don’t trust em.
I can tell that the the Nasi Goreng tastes awesome. I am definitely going to try to cook the Nasi Goreng recipe myself.
