      *_You would think that in 2022 you would see progression in shoe designs versus the great regression we see. I mean power tools for 200 to 300 (note and getting cheaper) are lithium battery brushless motors, industrial material and last a life time yet shoes are of lower quality than the 1950s and for no reason. Interest point is Everyone on earth has a pair of shoes but not everyone owns a power tool how can one not see potential in selling higher quality shoe's and why they are made is such amish techniques and machinery dating back to early 1900s???_*

    I needed a full leather shoe for work. And all I could find were the Nike Monarchs. So I got them. I absolutely hated them. They were too bulky, and felt weird. And they would make an annoying squeaking sound when I walked. I was happy to get rid of them once I left that job. But, they did protect my feet well.

    • @Sil3nt_Cha0s
      @Sil3nt_Cha0s 2 года назад +9

      You had the squeak too? I though it was just my shoes. Will never buy them again. Comfort was average. But after about six or seven months of use, the outsole started separating from the rest of the shoe.

    • @fioredeutchmark
      @fioredeutchmark 2 года назад +11

      The squeak is due to the air unit separating from the EVA foam surrounding it and leaving a small space that then gets compressed and makes the sound. It’s a really common problem with encapsulated air Nikes.

And the sole is extremely stiff. So are the uppers. As a result they are not nearly as comfortable as the $10 Walmart shoes that Walmart no longer sells. I guess I'll have to take a look at New Balance because I don't particularly like the Air Monarchs. Oh, and I'm a grandfather, if that means anything.

    The Nike Monarch IV is iconic, dads love it for their comfort, styling, and dare i say because they are a bit bulky while being very cost effective. The only downside for dads is that in their latest generation they have a dreaded squeak that happens over time which is related to the glue that Nike switched over to many years ago. A backup to the Nike is the New Balance 623, however while likely a better runner at slightly less cost with no squeak…styling wise Nike Monarch’s have them beat.
    Its not like dads are beating up the sports arena, they just want comfort, styling and relatively economical and Monarch’s are a hit in all of those area’s.
    A better runner for dads is the New Balance 623, but you give up a bit of classic styling for that,

    I ended up wearing the monarchs through hours upon hours of travelling through the old continent and they were comfortable, durable, and keep my feet warm and isolated from the winter conditions in Europe, not an easy task by the way.
    At that time I didnt even know they were considered dad shoes, I bougth them cause they look cool (maybe a liitle bit too edgy) and they were reasonably priced.

    there probably isnt over one psi of pressure in any air bubble. they wouldnt be filled to the point of bursting cuz that would slightly increase costs and lower the lifespan. max air is meant to displace the air and cushion somewhat like air suspension.

    Hey man, I have been watching your videos for a couple years now. Huge fan of the boots you do.
    Would you be able to start a series on basketball shoes? I would love to know what is inside these newer basketball shoes.
    Love your work brother!

    I have neuropathy in my feet that affects my balance. The Air Monarch are the only comfortable sneakers I can find that hold me up and allow me to walk semi normally. Ive tried then all. New Balance runs a half size too small. Love Skechers design the best, but not enough support.

    Thumbs up for the intro. 👍
    My favorite thing about these shoes is I always find them on sale for less than $50 USD on sale.

    I was doing okay, struggling with the fact I’m about to retire from the Army, then I hear “990”, the shoes I’ve worn for PT for over ten years, from recruiting to Drill Sergeant duty and beyond. 😀
    The only thing worse is wearing the Hokas an Army civilian passed down to me and hearing the General talk about how he’s not old enough to wear Hokas. Damn, I’m not even 45 yet.
    In all seriousness, great content! I’ll keep wearing my DeWalt safety shoes, various combat boots collected over 21 years, 990s, and Walmart sandals, but you make these reviews/teardowns interesting!

    Air Monarchs are great. Very comfortable......UNTIL.....about six or seven months after you start wearing them, the air unit starts to rub against the insides of the shoe and....it squeaks. Every step. you squeak. And people say "put some baby powder in there" but that doesn't work. Nike won't fix it.
    So, until Nike fixes the squeak, no Monarchs for me.
    And the current Old Man shoe is not New Balance anymore.
    It's Sketchers. Every old man I see......Sketchers.

    I'm sure you've addressed this before but do you wear a ventilator mask when you do the burn tests? Those burning plastic fumes can mess you up in the future...

    Great vid as always! Really curious if the "Nike Defy All Day" is somewhat similar to those pair. More power to you and your channel!!

    Returned mine recently that I bought .. they squeaked and the sole was separating .. Nike agreed to refund me on them as I had bought all black and another color .. that I hadn’t worn yet that was new in box .. the overall look isn’t bad for a dad style shoe .. the price point is fine but I’d rather pay more for a quality shoe . That doesn’t squeak and fall apart after a year of normal use

    Personally I love my air monarchs, I just got a pair and they are super comfortable. Granted I like new Balance too but I was unable to find a pair to fit my super wide and long feet. I wear a 13 wide, a very hard shoe size to shop for.

    So when I was a janitor when I wore this shoe and remember getting greifed for the dad shoe. But I would never work in my Van's,brooks, asics, wolverines, Redwing's, or Sperries for that job. Not ever, the monarchs are perfect for janitorial work and or comfortable light snow shoe.

    I got an idea for a video. You should review which brand has the best dad shoe. Like NB's 990s, Nike's Vomero 5s, Adidas's Response CLs etc.
