THE SMITHS Big mouth strikes again REACTION

The Smiths were already known for morose, sardonic, morbid, even violent lyrics when they released "Bigmouth Strikes Again" in 1986. Figurative expressions of inner angst and all that. The backing vocals are Morrissey with some effects applied to his voice. For decades I figured they hired some uncredited woman to sing them or tricked a violin into sounding human or some such. Johnny Marr's guitar work really shines on this. One of their best, imo.
If you listen you can hear it's his voice sped up and slowed down to normal speed towards the end. Imagine some other effects as well, they did a fair bit of that.
When I found out about all the audio FX, I was quite impressed
The ‘female vocalist’ on this track is credited as being a woman called ‘Anne Coates’......Of course there was no female vocalist and Ancoates is an are of Manchester. Morrissey being clever as always 🙃
Good job Katie.
The lyrics are are so slyly humorous, I’ve got to laugh! “And now I know how Joan of Arc felt.”? A total drama queen martyr and I am here for it. I think your point about it being directed at his critics is spot on. It seems to me he is actually giving them the middle finger here.
And of course the band live is on fire!
Love this song. Absolutely dramatic, depressing and danceable all at the same time. lol
Well THAT sure put a smile on her face. Many thanks, Harri!
Katie does have fantastic taste in music, and though I'd like to take credit, she came to it all on her own or through friends. She's even expanded my musical horizons on a few occasions!
That was really special. Thank you again!
Personally, I can't get enough of your fuzzy tie-dye sweatshirt. That's great, man.
🤣😂😂😂🤪
Not a Morrissey fan really, but this song is really, really good.
Welcome to the party
I love The Smiths, Johnny Marr is an absolute legend but I think Morrissey really needs to disappear up his own arse permanently...
Me about every the Smiths song 😭
I've always been a Smiths fan, they layering of the vocals and the guitars in this is quite something.
This was in response to the newspapers..
And Katie's dad should take her to see The Smyths (tribute band) sure she'd love them.
Good one Katie! I was 14 when I first heard The Smiths and in particular, this track which was on a cassette tape that was passed to me at school 34 years ago, back in the early 90's we would tape our favourite songs on cassette tapes and pass them around. I'm 48 and I still listen to The Smiths and Morrissey and still feel all of those emotions! I hope they stay with you throughout your life because those songs are like therapy!!
My fave!!!
Great reaction Harri to a song that few have reacted to. Next try "Heaven knows I'm miserable now" or " I don't owe you anything" or "This Night has opened my eyes", all by The Smiths!
Great request and great reaction Harri! Please react to some Morrissey solo songs as well ~
Noted
Brilliant reaction, seen him live a few weeks back, he’s still magnificent❤
Great song!
Louder than bombs!
My High School Band in the 80's 🥰🥰
Love The Smiths. That 14 year old girl has great taste in music for sure
Great choice Katie. Very enjoyable.
Great reaction Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Awesome 😎
It felt to me that this song was about him being silly when talking how the press (here as bigmouth) would overblow the things he would say
Btw I started listening to The Smiths as a kid as well since my mom would listen to their songs. Also listened to The Cure, A-ha and Billy Idol and other classics through her.
Great stuff, thank you ❤❤❤
👍🏼 The flames rose 🌹 to her Roman nose 👃 and her Walkman started to melt. I love his lyrics
Listening to the smiths again reinforces my belief that Johnny Marr is a genius. Any musician who can make that kind of music to morrisseys lyrics are incredible in my eyes.
How about ‘Barbarianism begins at home’ as a tribute to Andy Rouke?
This is my absolute favorite song!!!Thank you for this review!!!
Guitarist Johnny Marr…
Musical genius….
He is so brilliant.
I have never seen that video - 5 Smiths with Craig Gannon on guitar as well!!
A very influential band, lyrical never heard before.
i was around 13 14 when I strongly liked with this sound. Nice depressing funky nasal sung sarcastici lyrics. Great
This song was featured on the Bumblebee movie, one of better Transformer movies. Maybe she heard it there,
This is a super sing by a super duper band.
don' know if it was meant to be taken the way you did, but have to say interesting view, also thank you just for reacting to this!!!
Panic, Ask, What Difference Does It Make, How Soon Is Now, and Bigmouth are pretty much all #1 for me. Can't pick one over the other. Man I got lucky with all the different styles of music growing up in the 80's.
GREAT MORRISSEY
Epic track
❤
bass line is Andy rourke RIP
The Queen is Dead is for many the best Smiths album but it's also tied with Meat is Murder and every other Smiths album so the best Smiths album is forever undecided by Smiths fans. Of course, I would know too because I'm a Smiths fan as well, even though most could care less but I care and that's all that really matters anyway.
"Sweetness I was only joking when I said I'd like to smash every tooth in your head"
- Chris Brown?
6:37 this is the real world Katie. Focus on that.
Can you review Shepard of fire by avenge sevenfold if you haven’t heard it yet? 🤘 🎸
Remind me of U2
There is hope when people are discovering and appreciating great music. Even though the lyrics are simple, I find them to be funny satire filled with exaggerations. The anachronisms just kind of nudge you back in case you are about take the words literally. I am impressed people 'get it' even though things seem to be so sensitive today.
Been a while since you played music by YES. How about "Close to the Edge"
Great song! But I only just noticed it’s kind of a preamble to what we’re learning about Morrissey’s politics: hey, sorry I was an asshole but geez I’m only joking and now you’re gonna cancel me and burn me at the stake, geeeez
Loaded Orygun I absolutely love The Smiths, Johnny Marr is a legend!! Its a shame Morrissey disappeared up his own arse....
Yeah, there’s no joking around with xenophobic remarks.
Then you'll know how Joan of Arc felt 😀

Mozzer's done VERY well for himself up there.
Morrissey doesn't apologise. Why should he? Love mozzer
The reason you like this is Johnny Marr, full stop
Who can relate... Big Mouth Strikes Again.....
Harris, just found you ❣️check out the pouges. Shane MacGowan ☘️ is an incredible song writer. Bottle of smoke is a great song. Thanks
Morrissey apologizing, haha har har har Big mouth strikes again and ive got no right to take my place in the human race, Thats Sarcasm! how can you not see that, and has you say with so few lyrics. to ponder.
Yeah, people love to diss him...I think it's because he's such a strange one, and very private. He's not afraid to speak out, either, and has a pretty unique way of saying it. People don't like that.
I love you Morrissey ❤
🏳🌈
This Channel obviously knows nothing about Morrissey.. as Morrissey, like his devoted Fans apologise for nothing. (Why should we/they).. Unfortunately this guy doesn't get the actual power of Music and the power of the commercial written word within the Conventional sense of the British Music industry. It means everything. Morrissey is the modern written word. Post Shakespeare.
I suppose it's open to interpretation, really. As is all art.
This guy shouldn't be battered just because he's not familiar with Morrissey
