Nice video, Gene! There's a product called Mac's River Runner. It's a prop guard for kicker motors. It bolts on to the skeg and has a plate that runs under the prop so it won't hit bottom. I have one on my current sled with a Yamaha T-8 kicker. They work great!
It’s a tough river to fish. I spent most of the year learning how to plunk it. My advice look at videos on plunking spin glos. I’ve caught steelhead, chinook and coho on spin glo. Spinners can also be very productive, at the beginning of the coho run I hooked 3 on a spinner within a few days and then lost the spinner. Last year I caught 13 coho on spinners and one big 20# chinook.

Those Coho eggs, IMHO, are the best bait eggs for winter steelhead..I’ve caught more winter runs on them, than any other eggs on the last 10 years….one last thing..you need a net with a long handle…Promar makes a great net with a 54” handle
Would love to see another video from the lake....thinking about trying it myself. Being 2 hrs away and never been there is nice to see what it has to offer via video.
Boat control can be such a pain. Have you considered a bow mounted trolling motor? You can turn on the spot-lock when you hook up and concentrate on the fish. The motor will keep you pointed into the current.
@@Northwestfishingfanatics It works great! Riffe Lake on a windy day is no problem when used in tandem with the kicker. Lock the tension arm so the kicker is fixed, use the bowmount remote to change your heading. Boat control at its finest!
I'm pretty sure the Skagit River is much larger than Cowlitz. Cowlitz being 3rd behind the Columbia? Nice watching you having so much fun, even when not landing fish. Cheers!
I started tying a drop hook or bead 8 inches under my main hook using the same idea. Egg loop on the bottom hook in-line to the top hook with the same egg loop setup and have lost several fish . Do you think the tension on the line from the top hook to the bottom hook gets compromised with the tension on the knot on the top hook 🤷🏼♂️. Lost a lot of salmon on 20 lb flouro
@@kahuna13135 I think with good knots it doesn't matter.. There's virtually no give between them if they're real close together. Maybe the further apart the hooks are could cause a problem. Thanks for watching.

It is sad What the state has done to that fish population on the river. When the state allowed the power company to lie about their number We need to push for laws. To bring back the fish population. And not let the state recertify the power company until it complies with the treaty laws
@@coreycorey2220 I think a lot has to do with the push to bring back "wild" stock. All they're really doing though is not clipping returning fish and calling them Native even though they're from the hatchery. The Wild Fish Conservancy group has a lot to do with it.

Go float good eggs or jig with small shrimp on at the pool it's one now. Run is widing down. And run some beads for steelhead!

Do fish caught with bait count towards your limit on that river?
I don't think there is a distinction with or without bait. The limit is 6 coho no more than 3 adults. I usually stop at two regardless.
